Therefore this review will only be about the cake I've had from them. ----- I was actually surprised at the amount of negative reviews because the cake they baked for us was DELICIOUS! My father ordered their version of a Black Forest cake (which they had said up front would not be exactly like the "traditional" version). But it was sooooooo good, nevertheless! I love chocolate cake in general, but it usually makes me sick (or I make myself sick eating too much of it). Their chocolate cake was so light though! It had that rich chocolate taste, without the heaviness chocolate cake often has. The same can be said for their chocolate butter cream, it was almost like a thicker meringue, it was definitely buttercream but it just has a nice airiness to it. It's no surprise that their average rating is just barley at a 3. I was there today and bought some butter cookies and rainbows along with 2 black and whites, I didn't watch her as she picked the black and whites and put them in the bag and when I got home and later on made some tea and took them out of the bag they were stale the chocolate and vanilla icing was already turning color from being in the cabinet too long. This is not the first time this has happened, last Easter I went there the day before to get the cookies, I decided to get a pound of Lemon drops as well, when I got to my sisters house on Easter and after the meal she brought out the coffee and the cookies and lemon drops, and to my shock and embarrassment the lemon drops were all stale!!!!! these sob's that run this place cannot be the original owners, I've been going there for 3 decades and never had this problem. I'll be reporting them to the department of health on Monday and will also be inquiring on if they are supposed to post their prices for these items they sell because they don't any more. Highly recommend Frank and Son. I live near the bakery and go in frequently, when I found out that they partner with Swan Lake Caterers, which was our wedding venue, I was so excited and knew we were in great hands. The staff at the bakery are always so nice. They set up a little table for our taste testing and my we had such a hard choice that we chose two flavors, red velvet, and carrot, with cream cheese filling and icing. We told the staff that we were having sunflowers and they said they can incorporate them. We also opted for a cannoli and strawberry with a slice of cake. The cannoli were fresh and delicious. We received so many compliments on presentation and taste. We were so happy with the finally products. The price was way below what we were anticipating as well, which is such a plus considering it was for a wedding. I wouldn't expect anything less, if I'm just being honest. read more

My mother in law got a cake for my husband and I to celebrate our marriage at Frank's. The woman at the counter had actually helped her pick out the quote as well - which is nice. After picking the cake up, in a rush to get to our party she couldn't wait to see how it came out. With about 40-50 people crowded around when opening it up, eager to see the cake she was surprising us with - we could not believe the spelling error. How embarrassing!!! Thankfully we are easy going people and I did not let this ruin our very special day. When my mother in law went back to show a picture, and complain about such a mistake she was barely given an apology, but she did receive a box of old, stale cookies. Stopped by today for the first time after my aunt raved about this bakery's cassata cream. Ordered a bunch of goodies - a loaf of Italian bread, some cookies, pastries... The cannoli were very fresh - outstanding. The braided Italian bread was fresh, dough pretty flavorful ... the sesame seeds were nice and toasty. Almost every single one of the pastries that we ordered were old. The crumb cake and apple turnovers were completely stale, which I just find to be unacceptable. The jelly donut was equally as stale, but more notably, it hardly had any jelly inside. The cheese danish, although filled with a generous amount cheese, was completely stale. The cookies were better- biscotti & regina cookies (sesame cookies)- but this was probably just because these types of cookies have a longer shelf life... Service was good and the bakery seemed pretty clean. If you are looking for a good cannoli, definitely visit. Otherwise, unless you're OK with spending money on goods that are not fresh, steer clear. There's a wonderful ice cream place across the street that makes a delicious peanut butter ice cream cake. read more

Stopped here yesterday with a friend and bought an assortment of pastries. AMAZING! Everything was seriously so delicious. The lobster tail was so crunchy on the outside and had the best cream filling, the rainbow cookies were sooooo good and they were extremely moist (sorry for using the M word), the napoleons, and chocolate mousse cups. I will never step food in here ever again- I wanted to share my experience regardless of it being over the summer- I just found it on yelp so everyone DESERVES TO KNOW THE TRUTH OF THIS PLACE. Over the summer for my mother in laws birthday (August 10th) I went to this local bakery to get her a cake. To the eye it looks good sure- but looking a littler harder you can tell the place is dirty and not well taken care of. So I got a 7 layer cake and again- looked great- until we sang happy birthday and cut the cake- all four of us took some bites and all four of us had funny faces on- "what's that taste!?" We all thought it was rum flavored and we continued to eat it- after a while we noticed a musty smell- I knew something wasn't right- digging through the layers I noticed green spotty mold- I instantly vomited. Took pictures right away- and tossed the cake (it was now after hours the shop would be closed- and I didn't not want this in my house any longer). Next day I took the pictures to the store and they instantly started denying the allegations. Thankfully I had the pictures. Thursday get a call they won't be making my cake unless I bring money in and I got an attitude from whoever I was speaking to. I have been coming to this bakery since 1982 when I bought my house. In the past several years the quality has been going downhill. Today I purchased a black and white cookie, a jelly doughnut and a cheese puff. The cookie was ok, but the doughnut and puff were so stale they were actually hard. The cheese puff tasted bad, as if the cheese had curdled. Awful. And, I don't think anyone is being nasty. We are just telling the truth about the products we got. If one day you go in here and get stale or moldy food, you will know how we feel. I don't know what has happened to this bakery, but they won't see me again. The rainbow cookie had a weird taste to it, almost like it was sprayed with windex or left in a poorly ventilated refrigerator too long. Tried to eat a mini chocolate cupcake and again this weird chemical windex taste came from the cake, even worse than the cookie. Figured third time was the charm and tried a mini cannoli..no chemical taste but definitely not fresh. Cannoli cream was hard, as if it was sitting in a fridge for a few days. My family's Saturday ritual these days includes a trip first to Mastic Seafood then to Frank & Son's for bread and sweets. A couple weeks ago we celebrated my wife's birthday, and Frank & Son's tiramisu made growing a year older that much easier. Their bread is fresh and genuine, and their cookies tasty without being too sweet and, therefore, generic. But what's best about frequenting Frank & Son is the family atmosphere. I come from an Italian family. Sometimes Italians talk loudly. Sometimes we're aggressive. But that's all a part of our charm.
