First I called ahead of time 20 minutes giving them plenty of time still had to wait 25 minutes because they messed up the cheese and bagel. Twice then I received a bagel sprinkled with a little bit of everything. Then on top of that $20 for 1 bagel ham cheeese and 1 bacon egg cheese on a roll. Another occasion I asked for lightly buttered bagels and it was heavily buttered. More recently I asked for egg everything bagels and received just egg bagels. Management needs to place better care into their staff training. I also happened to notice there are two signs outside that say "Hot Bagels". Under new management! They are now Bagels Your Way Cafe and they have a new manager, new staff, new menu, new interior designs, and everything. Bagels are still good. I noticed the coffee is now on it's own counter on the customer's side. So customers can pour their own coffee and add how ever much sugar and milk they want. They also have less tables and chairs now because of the new coffee counter. I also noticed the glass counters where they keep the bagels behind is now shorter. Which I really appreciate being a short person, now I don't have to stand on my tippy toes to make contact with the staff. The bagels are the same I think, I didn't notice any huge difference from the bagels I use to get from Strathmore Bagels. Some of the old staff still work there, but they have a new manager and I think they're working on a new menu. Everyone has shirts that say "Bagels Your Way Cafe", so I think it's safe to say that's the name of the new establishment. This place (and pretty much all long Island bagel shops) it's so expensive. I paid almost $8 for one toasted bagel with cream cheese and a 8oz Red Bull. So pretty much they charged me $4 for a bagel and another $4 for the Red Bull. And, it's not like the taste is amazing and makes it worth the money spent. This is my favorite bagel shop when I visit Long Island. The bacon egg and cheese sandwiches on a roll are to die for. Always leave with a dozen or so to take home along with a couple of everything bagels with lox spread and scallion spread. Ask for extra cream cheese if that's your thing. Prices are reasonable and servers are very friendly. I usually call in my order because the breakfast rush can be a little time consuming but the line moves pretty fast. The food is really good, the prices are right, but the service needs work. I frequently come, and all the workers always seem to have an attitude. The hours on the door are wrong. It says open till 2, but they turn everything off at 1, so don't go in at 1:20 expecting to get something. I usually place my order by phone, but today starting at 11:30am i tried to call in my order and kept getting a busy signal. I finally decided to go in at 12:45pm after i could not get through on the phone, and I was informed that on Sunday they take the phone off the hook so no one can call in. I'll be sure not to come on Sunday as I have better things to do than wait standing for 30 minutes crammed in a small space. read more

Strathmore Bagels in Shirley is a very solid bagel shop. It's a blue collar joint no café or pretentious atmosphere here. You'll find the shop nestled in the North West section of this Shopping Center. They are cash only and do not have an ATM in the shop either. All the bagels are excellent quality. Standard varieties of bagels- Everything, Plain, Garlic, Onion, Etc. They do carry some low fat items, pastries, and flavored Cream Cheese. The coffee is okay. When you get there on the weekend their probably will be a line. Parking isn't bad but it's not great. Definitely a top choice for quality bagels and worth checking out if you are in the area. read more

One of THE best bagel sandwiches i've ever had. So I walk in and see cream cheeses I've never even HEARD of, they have the basics like vegtable, regular, scallion, and then they bust out some walnut and rasin, or olive cream cheese. I dont like anything other than regular cream cheese, but I also like to gawk at things through the glass while i'm waiting for my eggs to fry, but I digress... The people there are just nice, good people. I'm not sure about the other guy's review, but I was more than happy when I came here. Bacon egg and cheese on an egg everything check, thats what was placed in my small brown paper bag that I rushed home with. ALSO, they have every friggin bagel flavor under the sun. Props. I go to this place often on weekends. I really don't know why I continue. I like their food. Yes, the staff tends to be rude, but I'm not there to make friends. The problem is they are always out of bagels! It doesn't matter if I go at 8 a.m, 9:30 or even 7:30 in the morning. They cannot keep up with the demand. Honestly, this is the best bagel place in the world. I've never been to a better bagel spot in my whole life. You just taste the freshness in them. No matter what bagel I get, I have never had a bad bagel from this place. I go here every Saturday morning, but you gotta get there early before they get packed out, but it's sooo worth the wait. Just bought a house nearby and my girlfriend and I were looking for a solid breakfast / lunch joint nearby. We stopped into Strathmore Bagels thinking... "this looks good! so close too!" We ordered two simple breakfast sandwiches... ham egg and cheese on toasted bagels. The order took literally 15 minutes to make. We got home and there was no cheese. Not surprising because the loser behind the counter kept yessing me to death as I was ordering... I never got to get the order out because he apparently read my mind... apparently he didn't do a good job because he screwed up the order. Me: Did you get that? Him: "Yep..." (walking away) We decided to give it another shot. This time the order was completely wrong... what a surprise. I was cut off from ordering because he knew what I was going to say... right? I swore up and down I wouldn't go back... but I did. The only bagel shop in town. Repeated visits after this revealed the same result. Lazy, incompetant staff, iffy bagels, consistently incorrect orders (where's my cheese, my bagel wasn't toasted, asked for scrambled and got over easy, asked for ham and got nothing) and an overall hassel. The only reason I gave this place a star at all is because the food is edible. HUGE thumbs down. Will never go back. And who closes at 3pm on a weekday?? read more
