2.33 stars. After a visit to the cemetery, we, the Santos side of the family, went for an early dinner at DOPE PHO. Below is a breakdown of my 2.33 stars overall rating: VENUE: 3 stars. Located at GRIMMER SQUARE shopping centre, we easily found free parking in the spacious lot. We were a party of nine, walking in the casual eatery just minutes before 6 PM. No problem, only a few tables were occupied, so we were immediately seated after the staff pulled together a few half booth tables against the wall. One of our tables was not very clean, so Mom wiped it down. FOOD & DRINK: 2.5 stars. DOPE PHO serves beef noodle soup and other classic Vietnamese plates. Below are some of what we ordered: SHRIMP SPRING ROLLS ($8.45) & TOFU SPRING ROLLS ($7.45) - The fresh rice paper rolls, also known as gỏi cuốn, were good in composition and texture; however, the peanut sauce was pretty bland. If the sauce is a fail, the dish is far from being a winner. Unfortunately, this was the case here. EGGROLLS (3 PCS, $8.45) - DOPE PHO uses the right wrappers, so these fried rolls (chả giò) came out golden brown and irresistibly crispy. The typical way to eat these is wrapped with fresh herbs and green leaf lettuce, then dipped in fish sauce. Only bite-size pieces of lettuce, pickled veggies, and sweet & sour sauce accompanied the egg rolls, though. I had to ask for some fish sauce. I should have asked for some fresh herbs, too. CHICKEN POT STICKERS ($6.95) - These were great; crispy exterior and steaming hot flavourful meat inside. The dipping sauce was also tasty. VIETNAMESE COFFEE ($6.95) - OK, according to Auntie Marissa. RARE BEEF & SHORT RIB NOODLE SOUP ($19.95) - Mom, Z and Uncle Danny ordered this bowl of phở of two slabs of bone-in rib meat, rice noodles, and a medley of fresh garnishes floating in a simmering, golden-brown broth. The ribs were the undeniable statement piece, but it all looked better than it tasted. Both Uncle Danny and Mom were disappointed in their soup, stating that they didn't like them at all. Z enjoyed his bowl, though. RARE BEEF CHOICE BEEF FLAP ($17.45) - I appreciated that the beef was lean, but had to load up on lemon (V and I prefer lime instead), Sriracha, Hoisin Sauce, and several slices of jalapeño to add more flavour to my broth. Good thing that the side plate of bean sprouts, basil and especially jalapeño slices was a generous serving. CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP ($16.95) - V thought that his soup was good, but stated he has had better Viet soup elsewhere. THAI ICED TEA ($6.95) - Sweet and oddly missing the tea flavour...which makes it a fail. TARO JASMINE MILK TEA ($6.95) - Another bland drink. COCONUT COFFEE ($7.15) - Good, I could really taste the coconut come through. I wish that they would make this vegan. SHAKING BEEF (FILET MIGNON) OVER RICE ($19.95) - This dish was highly recommended by Auntie Marissa, so Auntie Selvy ordered it. I got to try a piece of meat. Again, savoury notes were lacking big time. To add flavour to her food, Auntie Selvy poured the leftover fish sauce that I got for the eggrolls. This was THE MOST flavourless SHAKING BEEF that I have ever tasted. Combination Fried Rice (Chicken & Shrimp) - This item dropped off of the menu, but you can still order it and the kitchen will make it. Not bad, but, again, a bit on the bland side. Soy sauce needed. SERVICE: 1.5 stars. Our waitress must have been new because she had no idea that the Combination Fried Rice (Chicken & Shrimp) was available to order. I stated earlier that we were a party of nine, right? I suggested to her to take our orders one-by-one from everyone, working her way around the table in an organized fashion. The weird thing was that as each person placed their orders, when we would reply to "anything else?," she would think that ordering would stop at that person, not that the response was specifically for that one person. We had to continuously tell her that the others still had to place their orders with her. Was this impatience or ignorance or both?? Once all food and drink were delivered to our table, our server never approached our table again - she never came by to check in on us to see if everything was ok or if we wanted to order anything else. In fact, my cousin had to go up to the counter MULTIPLE times to ask for to-go containers. Either our waitress needs more training or she just didn't care about our experience. Not only was service poor, they had flyers posted along the walls, offering a FREE Coconut Jelly in exchange for a 5-star review on Google or yelp. WOW! That's straight up bribery for inaccurate ratings. Super shady!! DOPE PHO is FAR from a 5-star place! I am seriously questioning if all of the 5-star yelp reviews are genuine. I would be curious to see if the number of perfect ratings would drop significantly once they take down those bribing flyers. Not sure why Auntie Marissa suggested to dine here. Definitely NOT dope.

Excellent short rib pho. Tender meat on the brontosaurus bone! Very good broth, no oil floating on top. Sweeter than the usual broth, and though I prefer savory, it was extremely flavorful and good -- especially after I put my herbs, lemon, and siracha into it. The shaking beef was also very good. It was a great filet mignon with veggies. Not over sauced, but flavored right. The service is very good, very and friendly. They're open late, so they're perfect for late night cravings.

Dope Pho is located in a small strip mall close to the Arco gas station, Kakuna Sushi, Nails & Spa, etc. A nice simple, clean restaurant with a few simple decorations. Two separate single-user men and women's restrooms. The soup was a clean, simple seasoned broth. The short ribs were tender, fall-off-the-bone. While eating the tender beef ribs, I had a few bone chips, so be careful eating this. I mean, its the same whenever you are eating fish, you need to be cautious of any missed bones. Support your local business.

Came by today to get a grilled pork bahn mi sandwich. I got it with everything. There was plenty of meat, along with a little mayo, cilantro, jalapeños, and the carrots and daikon mix. The sandwich was tasty. And you get a lot of food for $8. They do have a togo special where you get a sandwich and a Vietnamese coffee for $10. I like that they open at 9 am. Perfect when I want soup or a sandwich early in the day.

This is our time trying dope pho and thought it was ok. The broth wasn't flavorful for the meatball pho, but they didn't skimp on the meat at all. They only have one size which is unfortunate because I was still hungry after finishing my bowl. What I loved about this pho place was that everything felt clean which isn't common for pho restaurants. I have to come back and try their vermicelli bowls and banh mi!

Came here after Christmas for a warm place to eat in the cold! Ambiance 9/10: simple pho restaurant with minimal features but overall super clean inside. Service 10/10: the server greeted us as soon as we walked in! She and the older lady were both very warm and welcoming, always checking in to make sure the food was good and we were alright. Food 10/10: spring rolls were good (a little on the leafy side but I still enjoyed!!) pho and rice plate (not pictured) came out warm and delish! Their nuoc mam is sweet (yum!) and their egg rolls are very crispy! Total bill was around $54 for 2 entrees, 2 hot teas & an app! I would totally come again!!

I like how this place is open late because we came in after seeing holiday in the park on a cold night . Our party of 7 sat down right away and our server took our order right away. Food comes out so quickly and the soup was so hot! Perfect for a cold, late night. I recommend the beef skewers as an appetizer! They have a lot of flavor and super juicy. I'll try this place again

Food was delicious and service was for the most part quick. They also checked in on us to make sure we were okay thought out the meal. The vermicelli dish is my go to and it was delicious. For milk tea, they offer to make any adjustments to your drink so would recommend starting with less sweetness then adding as needed. They have some booth seating that are great for groups and kids. The only negative is that the bathroom had a sewage smell that was a bit off putting.

With a name like Dope Pho you have to give it a try. Especially after I learned it was the same owner as Kakuna (my favorite go to sushi spot in Fremont). Restaurant is spacious and clean inside. We sat down and the menu had alot of great choices. We ordered shrimp spring rolls, beef stew pho, and rare beef and brisket pho. Good tasting broth for both phos but my favorite was the beef stew pho, just didn't like the chunks of carrots. My only complaint was our waters were never refilled.

first time here. ambiance is good and staffs are attentive. i will say foods are just ok or mediocre. i expect the bun bo hue a bit spicy or tangy. anyway, the ginger crispy tofu is recommended. the onion and ginger are blended and right taste. the tofu is quite crispy too ~ love it!!! prices are average and portion is quite a lot. overall, i want to give three and a half stars but since no half, i choose three stars this time...

I love this place so much I come once a month! It's located in a pretty small parking lot on the corner. Parking is decent. When you enter you seat yourself and the staff comes right away to bring you water and give you a menu. Once you order food comes out quick. I have never had a bad experience here! Everyone is friendly and lets you take your time to eat. For the amount of food you absolutely get your monies worth! I will always recommend this place to people looking for good Pho! read more

I thought the food was alright. I had the rib pho. It is just one or two rips in a bowl of rice noodles. I didn't feel it was enough if I didn't also order the sizzling steak. The sizzling steak was a little bit greasy for my taste. I asked them to make the eggs well done but they still came out rainy. read more

TikTok brought me here and honestly, it was overhyped. Services was immaculate tho! You can tell it's family owned and they were very nice and attentive. We ordered the eggrolls, which in my opinion was not worth $7. For 2?!?!? It was good, but for $7 at least give us 3 or 4. And it came with sweet and sour sauce which was disappointing because in Vietnamese cuisine, we dip in fish sauce! I ordered the bun bo hue which was good and flavorful but it didn't have anything BBH should have in it. No pork feet or bone, no pork blood. It came with a lot of I think flank meat? They give you a good amount so if you like that type of meat then you'd love this bowl. I switched my noodles to ho fun noodles which was over cooked. It broke really easily almost to the point where I needed a spoon to pick up the noodles because they were broken into little bits now. My bf got the pork chops which came with 3! Never seen rice plate with 3 and decent size too. I liked the pork chops more than my bbh. My bf said it lacked some flavor. read more

I'm not in Fremont often but was here for a meeting. I liked the variety of the menu, there was something for everyone in our party of 5. Service was pretty quick. I had the Bun Bo Hue-the portion was huge-enough for me to take home for next day's lunch, plenty of beef, broth was piping hot and plenty of mix-ins provided. read more

We saw that this place was new and the food looked really good, so we decided to make the drive from San Jose to try them out. We go there around 1:30 and noticed that there were actually a lot of people there for late lunch like us! We were sat down right away and a waitress came over pretty quickly to take our order. We ordered the Fried Garlic Tofu, Korean BBQ Beef Over Rice, and the Pho with Rare Beef and Brisket. The pho actually came out before anything else. The tofu came out about 5 minutes after, and then it was a while before the BBQ Beef came out. It's understandable since it has to be grilled. The pho broth was pretty good but I think it may have been a little too salty. The Fried Garlic Tofu was really good, but I feel like it barely had any garlic flavor. It tasted more like just salt and pepper. I would suggest adding either fresh garlic or at least garlic powder. There was no garlic flavor at all. The BBQ Beef was really good! There were only 2 things that I didn't like: they gave the smallest cup of nuoc mam (fish sauce). Vietnamese rice places usually come with a bowl of nuoc mam. The other thing I didn't like was that they only had dinner knives, no steak knives. I personally like eating my short ribs with a fork and knife when I'm eating at the restaurant. They only had dinner knives when we asked for a steak knife. I did see that they had a lot of other dishes on the menu that was some kind of meat with rice, so I'm unsure how other people were able to cut their meat. I know this place is still new, but I hope they take the time to read their Yelp reviews so they can continue to stay open. read more

I really like the garlic fried tofu because they are soft and crunchy and tasty. The fresh spring roll with shrimp was too loosely wrap and the peanuts was not crushed small enough, too rough and too big size. The pad Thai is surprisingly pretty good but I will ask them to make it spicy next time. The lemon grass pork chop was just okay. I wish it was more lemongrass flavor, but it's pretty good. Would like to try their happy hour pho from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. next time and also their Vietnamese egg coffee next time. read more

New pho place to try. Came with my family and ordered 2 pho noodle soups, 1 spring roll and a roasted quail. I asked if I could swap the rare steak with brisket since I don't enjoy pho steak. He said yes. When the food came, the rare steak and tendon were there but brisket was not. The steak is not the thin sliced steak what I normally had at other pho places, it's more like small chunks. The soup is very fragrant from all the spices and lean. Con: They didn't swap the steak with brisket like they agreed upon. The spring roll is not as good as other pho place. Even though it's 3 stars, I will try other dishes on their menu. read more

Husband and I are picky eaters, we love home cook meals. But once in a while we like to go out to eat but haven't found a pho place we love near us! But... search no more! We have found a place that is near to us and we believe this is a the place when we want to get our quick pho fix! Let me tell you I never finish my food when I go out. Came in for a few raved dishes. Bo ne- flavorless bun bo hue - soup with red oil and chili. Not even close. pho dac biet- got all the components a d flavor but the noodles were extreme al dente that it's barely edible kid pho - noodle was too raw for the kid. Asked for it to be cooked more 3 times over. First 2 times were still too hard. In the end, my kid ate the plain bread that came with the bo ne for lunch. Noodles didn't come out til almost 20 minutes later on the 3rd try. Really wanted to like this place with all the rave and good variety. We'll keep looking elsewhere read more

Tried the combination Pho and rocket shrimp eggrolls. Pho was just okay. Broth was a little bland in terms of the spices. Salt level was good. Some of the meat, not sure which one, was a bit chewy. Price was a little expensive. Thought the eggrolls would be like the pork and shrimp eggroll with the tails hanging out. But it was just a shrimp and a long piece of green onion. Not a fan of the green onion because I couldn't chew through it. So it just comes out as one piece when I took a bite. The eggrolls did come out looking good, but the tails were burnt. And somehow, the shrimp was raw. Complained, and they brought new ones out. Tails were still burnt. Overall, the eggrolls were quite lackluster. Might come back and try a Banh Mi. read more

Finally! Living in Fremont/Newark it's difficult to find good Vietnamese food in the area. We had a pleasant dining experience, the staff and owner came out to greet us, making sure we were taken care of. This place recently remodeled/rebranded to a modern ambiance and new menu selection. Make sure you try the Pho Ap Chao (fried pho), the sauce is not thickened with corn starch so it's much easier to consume. I like to ask for the sauce on the side so the pho is golden crispy. The Banh Bot Chien (turnip cake) is very flavorful, along with its dipping sauce. We also had the spring rolls, you can tell they made it fresh on the spot, unlike other Vietnamese places, where the rice sheet and noodles are hardened. read more

I've never written a review before, but I feel like I must for everyone's awareness. The food was okay--slightly salty and tasted like it had a lot of MSG. A few meats in the combination Pho, which wasn't to my liking. Our family was the only group dining in at the time (1 senior, 2 adults, and 2 kids), and they charged me a $13 service fee, plus I tipped an additional $8. The server brought us the wrong food and never came back to check on us. We didn't see her again until I went up to the cashier to pay. Very disappointing experience, and I won't be going back. Be aware of the hidden service charge--they sneak it into your bill. read more

Small and clean place in a small strip mall with a gas station. Fast and efficient service. Bun bo hue was very tasty- shrimp paste was definitely used, as supposed to be. Though the proportion to the noodles was good, there wasn't much variety in the meats- mainly beef brisket, a few fatty flank, couple small tendons. Nevertheless, it was still very flavorful, one of the better tasting BBH in the east bay. read more

Very mediocre. Nothing great. The Pho AP Chao was pretty bland, the thit nuong was very oily and flavorless. The water they served tasted like chemicals and the fried chicken, it was extremely bad. I took two bites and I immediately had to spit it out. It tasted like it was fried in extremely old oil. And the size of the chicken was extremely small. The only good thing was the Banh Mi, that was delicious, other than that, I don't know of if I would come back. read more

Went there around 2:30 and didn't realized they were closed for certain hours, but the amazingly sweet lady boss there was still willing to take me in. Best I can describe, very close to good old mom's home cooking. Small conversation with the lady boss, the food is all her recipes or renditions of classic Vietnamese dishes, everyone has their own little twist, but I did enjoy this one for sure. I came to Dope Pho last Friday after seeing it all over TikTok, and I have to say, the Bún Bò Huế and Bò Lúc Lắc were absolutely delicious definitely lived up to the hype. However, I did notice an issue with the service. There were two waitresses working that day. One of them was super active, running back and forth helping both the kitchen and customers big props to her. But the other one seemed uninterested in her job, mostly sitting at the register on her phone, chatting and not paying attention. While customers were clearly in need of water refills, she remained on her phone instead of checking in on us. I even heard the kitchen bell ring a few times, but she didn't respond. It felt unprofessional, especially when tips are expected. Also, when taking orders, it would be great if the staff could speak a little louder and smile more it really makes a difference in the dining experience. The food was great, and I'll probably come back, but I hope the service improves. With just a bit more attention to customer care, this place could easily be top-tier. read more

Really tasty and satisfying. With bento boxes I've had from other places--or even with some wraps--you often find yourself counting the pieces of meat: 3, 4, 5... and that's it. But I ordered the chicken noodle soup, and it was completely covered with chicken on top. Not fancy, but they know what they're doing. Staff was solid and the whole process from seating to paying was seamless. The chairs could be upgraded but that's minor. Good vibes overall. Would stop in again. read more
