The process to get an estimate was pretty seamless and easy. Within minutes of submitting the…read morerequest I got a message accompanied by a request to call with questions. I was able to secure the services and the movers arrived within a couple of hours. The staff were very professional and efficient in handling the 2 large pieces of furniture from the 2nd floor to the exterior of the house as requested. The owner did a walkthrough with me to confirm that there were no adverse events on the property. The cost was reasonable. The reason why 5 stars is not being given is it would have been ideal for the movers to have knowledge about the local jurisdiction requirements as it relates to removal of bulk items.

Scammers! Do NOT use! I hired them through UHaul on 7/26 to move my senior mom. I paid for 3 works…read morefor 6 hours. The man on the phone prided himself saying they never leave job unfinished. Would even come back next day if needed. They said someone would come out morning of to the new and old place to check out. They arrived 2 hours late after 3 calls asking where they were. They STOPPED after4 hours. They told me they would refund my money. They lied and kept all my money for a job they did NOT finish. I had to hire another truck to finish the job. I have called so many times. At first, they told me they had to call me back, but then they just stopped answering all my calls. They ignored my emails as well. They stole my money and left me to finish moving my senior mother on my own. Scammers, liars and thieves!

Collins Family Movers recently helped my family with a long-distance move from Chicago to Michigan…read more I recommend them extremely highly. CFM provided full packing services on a Wednesday, and on Thursday they loaded everything onto two trucks, drove to my new home, then unloaded and set everything up (in one day!). It was a complex move. We were coming from a very full townhouse - lots of breakables, a couple pieces of furniture that required significant disassembly, a piano that had to go around a tight corner and down a flight of stairs. Everything was packed and loaded with extreme care. When we arrived at the new house, the team went to great lengths to place everything just where we wanted it, assembling all items and cleaning up nicely. Through it all, every member of the team showed a very high level of professionalism, compassion, kindness, and respect, both for my belongings and for my family members. Working with owner Richard before and during the move was also excellent. He walked me carefully through my moving options, and provided detailed quotes based on a couple different scenarios I'd asked him about. The price he quoted was in line with quotes I received from other local movers, but I went with CFM specifically because of the confidence I got speaking directly with Richard. When moving day arrived, there were no surprises: everyone was on time, the team was the size I expected, and the price was exactly what I was quoted. There was even a flub-up on my end, where I accidentally overpaid by a few hundred dollars, and Richard nearly immediately refunded the balance after the move was complete. A long-distance move with a house full of stuff is one of the most stressful experiences of a person's life. There's nothing more valuable than having a moving company that provides door-to-door service, with professionalism and transparency. Collins Family Movers went above and beyond for me in all these respects. I'm very grateful I chose to work with them, and will 100% work with them the next time I have to do a long-distance move (hopefully not too soon!).

I would not recommend this company. They are overpriced and…read morehave a very poor quality of work and even worse customer service. They protect themselves with their lengthy contract to ensure they have zero liability with your future and belongings. After sending numerous emails with no response, I called to speak to them about the damages. Richard was quick to tell me that I was lucky he took my call since he just returned from a long trip to Italy. This made me feel like my concerns were not important and he was doing me a favor by taking my call. Before hiring Collins Family Movers, pay very close attention to the damage/liability exclusions in their agreement. In my experience, those exclusions were like a green light to be careless with anything they can later say they aren't responsible for. When they damage your property, don't bother talking to Richard as he will make you feel like it's your fault for trusting them and not moving certain things yourself. I paid $1,600 to move a one-bedroom apartment with no appliances, yet apparently the best option would have been for me to move certain belongings myself. If I'm hiring and paying professional movers, I expect my belongings to be handled carefully whether or not a contract says the company will reimburse me if something gets damaged, but this is not what I got with Collins. Boxes clearly labeled for specific rooms were put in the wrong rooms. It was as if they couldn't read. I had to carry heavy boxes to the basement myself. Again a concern dismissed by Richard, but a service I paid for. A large, extremely heavy armoire was placed without anyone asking where I wanted it, and now I have to find someone to move it because it is sitting where my bed needs to go. It is unrealistic to expect a 60 year old woman to move this heavy furniture, yet all Richard could say was "where were you" as if I was unavailable. There was no sense of urgency from the moving team. It literally took three hours to load my one bedroom apartment. Mind you when I moved a year ago with Alamo and the same belongings, it took half the time. When I expressed this concern to Richard it was dismissed and excuses were made. I had to unwrap all of the furniture myself just to get them out of here because it was taking them so long. In addition the movers took an over one hour to make a drive that took me 20 minutes, while I was paying by the hour, equating to over $110 overpayment. Also, know that your trash cans will be filled with their shrink wrap because they do not haul away their own packing material, also in the contract but in my opinion a dis-service to the customer. The shrink wrap was used in place of moving blankets, which would have been a more sustainable and safer option. I've now used two different companies. Alamo Movers Inc. took roughly half the time with essentially the same belongings and provided a far better moving experience, with no damage to my property. The cost was about half as much as. Furniture was carefully moved with no damage and placed where I wanted it. When they were done I was satisfied unlike this situation.
