I can't believe I have never stopped by this donut shop until today. We were warmly greeted by the owner who helped guide us with our choices. They have a variety of items on their menu aside from donuts. He recommended the Vietnamese coffee - which was delicious! The sausage burrito was made into a low carb version for me by putting the ingredients into a container without the tortilla. The sausage was the bomb and full of flavor. Last but not least we got a berry cheesecake donut & he threw in some extra donuts for free. How sweet is that! I was a fan of the glazed and berry. I didn't love the berry but I definitely liked it! Next time I would order a different donut since there's such a wide range of delicious looking choices. Overall, I had a GREAT experience. So the Oreo was super light and fluffy and the Oreo whipped cream was fantastic as a filling. Not a heavy donut at all. The sea salt caramel was crazy. It wasn't that gross thin, drippy caramel, but a thick gooey, salty, wonderful top to a great donut. The s'mores donut was sooooo freakin good. They have a lot of specialty donuts for a higher price but so worth it! They also have cute little sprinkle donuts for kids in Sunday's. These aren't your hole-in-the-wall, average donuts, they're w'aaay above average, hole-in-the wall donuts. Day: January 1st What better way to start 2020 than with deep fried, ringlets of dough covered in diabetic decadence! I was headed home after a blurred evening of tequila & debauchery; debauchery & more tequila; drink, pour, and repeat. It was a little after 7:30am, driving southbound down the 5 FWY and thought, "Mmm, donuts... Yes, donuts will be the perfect thing to christen in the new year." Yes, it was 7:30am, I was tired BUT not so much that I couldn't make a 10 minute detour. Yelp* app to the rescue & Donut Hub with a 5 Star rating was just around the corner. As many fellow yelp*ers have mentioned, if you've seen one donut shop store front, you've seen them all... 'But walk inside & be surprised. There was a very nice lady behind the counter helping a couple of customers ahead of me. She walked over, "Can I help you?" I told her that I was going to need some time. It was my first visit to the Donut Hub and not knowing when might be back this way; I wanted to make this visit count... 'And I did. Sam recommended either a ham & cheese croissant or "The Works," breakfast burrito. Great, I'll take both! I opted for the ham, cheese, & jalapeño croissant. (I do like me a bit o' heat.) As far as the donuts go, I ended up: Regular glaze (x2) Bismarck - One of my favorites (Origin: Bismarcken) Bear Claw Tiger Tail Peanut Butter Lover Banana Caramel Lemon Blueberry (Very good) Donut Holes Mocha*** Total cost: Complete blockage of my left ventricle; $32 (+ tip) *See uploaded photos ***- I had originally asked for a Vietnamese coffee (hot) but think she didn't understand me. so when she pointed @ the instant mocha machine I simply said, "Sure, perfect!" There are big things & small things & this little hiccup of a misunderstanding would fall under, "Neither." It's hot, it's coffee, and it'ill do just fine. As I waited for my order, I walked around the shop, snapping photos & browsing. Seasonal pumpkin pie donut; sounded tempting but I think it might've pushed pass sugar coma to OD-ing. I don't know what the lady said to Sam in Vietnamese while I placed my order but it was probably something along the lines of: "We may be able to close early, this guy is ordering everything in the case... 'Most people start the new year eating healthy. Yep, he's gonna die. Happy New Year!" I waited for about a half hour, sipping my mocha. Why such a long wait, you ask?... Well, with exception of the Lemon Blueberry and a couple of others; most of their specialty donuts had been made but that wasn't a problem. Sam asked me what donuts I wanted to try & he would have them prepared. What, donuts on demand? It doesn't get better than this! Well, if I wasn't feeling so hung over; that would make it better. HA! I was just enjoying the morning, watching the DH regulars come in with their newspapers while others took their donuts to go. Fast forward, 30 minutes and $40 later, I was back in the car with a warm box of donuts on the passenger seat; less one regular glaze with its remnants on the corners of my mouth & sprinkled down the front of my shirt. (The very nice lady, threw in a handful of donut holes in case I didn't have enough bad, goodness for a heart attack; thanks for the aloha!) Sitting on the donut box was a small bag with the breakfast croissant & burrito. (Did I mention I wanted to make this visit count?) The "real" food: the breakfast croissant & burrito were great; I would definitely reorder them without pause. Good portions, flavorful, and for the $$, a great deal. The donuts were awesome too but the specialty donuts were a bit rich & sweet for my taste. I'd suggest sharing and have a big glass of ice cold milk nearby. The Bismarck was great but I'm biased. As I was leaving, Sam asked if I wanted my mocha topped off. It was almost empty & I still had about a 25 minute drive; great! Sam recommended his own special 50/50 mix which was made with fresh brewed coffee & the "mocha-matic." Sam said, it has that strong, bold coffee taste but not overly sweet... 'And he was right. Mahalo Sam! If I'm back in the area, I wouldn't hesitate to drop by the DH for another visit but I think I may have met my sugar quota for the next five to six years. My friend asked, you ate all of that? I laughed, "Are you crazy?... 'Not all at once." BTW - My stomach was tore up for the next couple of days but DAMN, it was good. They have normal donuts for sale and the trendy fancied up stuff. The fancy donuts range from $2.25-$2.50 each which is super cheap compared to everywhere else. The donuts were really fluffy. Toppings were good on the ones I tried. I liked the White Choco Pistachio which is filled with a cream inside and the Peanut Butter Lover which has a peanut cream inside. Saw this Donut spot on Yelp and seeing how it was close by, I decided I had to check it out for myself. The shop itself is small and clean and has an array of different types of donuts. As I was looking the very nice employee asked if I liked Nutella because they were all out of the Nutella donuts but he would make me one fresh if I wanted. Well with me being more of a fruity person I decided to pass on the offer and instead focused on the two fruit donuts the Triple Berry and Lemon Berry. I purchased them both and actually waited until the following day to eat it. However, they were soooooo good. Very moist and light and extremely sweet. It was about 1 hour after they closed and we forgot to check their hours before going. Nevertheless, their door was unlocked and I chanced it with my wife and two young boys. They were technically closed but saw my little guys' longing eyes and invited us in. 5 stars for the breakfast burrito! Don't forget to ask for a side of jalapeño peppers to go w it. The salsa it comes w is a good compliment but that little extra kick is nice and I believe it's house made. Donuts more like 4 stars but rounding it up because it was super fresh and still tasted great a day old. By the second day it showed its age but still delicious and still worlds fresher than day old donuts from other establishments. All the flavors offered sounded tasty so I had a hard time choosing. After a lot of internal deliberation I ordered the lemon blueberry, hibiscus, triple berry, pistachio white chocolate, and Nutella bliss. The texture of the donut reminded me of Krispy Kreme. So airy versus cake like. Some of the flavors were outstanding in terms of balance and some tasty but kind of one note but none were overly sweet. Overall the hub doesn't technically offer gourmet donuts since the donut itself isn't flavored. It's mainly the frosting and toppings on the donuts. So more like a dressed up version of your everyday donut. The lemon blueberry was my favorite out of all the fruit flavors I tried. Great lemon flavor yet it didn't overpower the blueberry. The balance was amazing and I could see why this is among their most popular flavor. The hibiscus and triple berry tasted very similar to each other and didn't really have a distinct flavor on its own that would make it unique. In fact if I did a blind taste test I would have a super difficult time discerning the difference between the two. I wouldn't order these two donuts again. The pistachio white chocolate is really a frosted white chocolate donut with pistachio sprinkled on top. I liked the combo but would have liked an actual pistachio donut covered in white chocolate. As for the Nutella bliss that was my favorite out of my selection. I typically don't love Nutella but it was so tasty. The Hub did a great job creating that frosting and I loved that texture was added via the crushed peanuts on top and little bites of chocolate chip. Truly it was bliss. It's obvious a lot of care is given to the flavor combinations on their specialty donuts and overall in making sure only fresh donuts are served.
