That place is definitely one of my favorite spots. Everything on the menu is a hit. I love how big the omelettes are huge and my favorite. The flavored pancakes are all hits. My daughter loves the crepes. My wife loves their biscuits and gravy. Service is friendly and fast. She has a favorite waiter that calls everyone 'my love'. The inside has a log cabin vibe. There is outside seating but definitely limited seating. Anytime I travel I am always looking for a fluffy pancake that satisfies my sweet tooth and this place always hits the spot. Parking can be difficult so you might have to circle a few times. Or just park in the neighborhood and take a short walk back. Our group used Yelp's waitlist and when we arrived we only waited 5 mins for our table. To say this place was packed is an understatement, so the service took a bit longer than Im used to. Youre not going to find anything underwhelming here, because they offer some good old country style breakfast options. Think steak and eggs, country fried steak smothered gravy, omelets and a 3 tier stack of pancakes. Protip: this place is small, so if you have a large group it might be a bit cozy. This place absolutely blew me away. I got pumpkin pancakes with a ground beef skillet. The pancakes were perfect - they weren't too thick and they had an extra dash of cinnamon sugar that added some complexity to the dish. Sometimes you have to put in real work to cut pancakes with a fork and knife, but these ones were an ideal consistency. I loved the skillet as well: flavorful beef, savory eggs, and my server even suggested adding cheese. Speaking of my server-- Ray Y was absolutely seamless. My coffee cup was always full, he brought me extra cups of milk instead of me having to bug him for it, he brought extra napkins without me needing to ask, and he kept me up to date on how my food was coming along. OK, so I've been to another location before, but I wasn't a Yelper back then. I do remember it being GREAT and my husband and I had pancakes. So, with that said, I saw a recent review from a Yelp-friend and decided to give the (not so close to me) Anaheim location a try. Never had Swedish pancakes before, but his reel made me want to try. Unfortunately, not anything for me to write home about, but I'm glad I tried them. Just to say I did. Also had the chicken fried steak which was also recommended in the reel and one of my most favorite breakfast items (ever). Unfortunately, it seemed like a frozen pressed patty. We came here for my daughter's birthday and everything was absolutely incredible. The wait time was only 5 minutes even though they looked packed. The service was fast and we were checked on multiple times at the right intervals. My husband's coffee and my hot chocolate were continuously refilled without having to track someone down. This was our first time there, so we didn't know about portion sizes. We ended up ordering a bit too much but we know for next time. We did family style on everything. My husband ordered the crepes, I ordered the cheese omelet with a side of hash browns and my daughter ordered the pancakes. All very good choices. I think the crepes were definitely the standouts though. First time visiting The Original pancake house and I was a little disappointed. The wait times are too long. The service could not improve with having more servers and not overwhelming the few servers they have. The restaurant is really small so wait times will be longer than 90min even for a party of 2. Food portion are huge which was nice to be able to share and save some money. Ambiance is nice with pictures of when they first opened. Unfortunately I didn't take pictures of the food. I brought two guests with me and we were sat in roughly 10minutes around 11:00 it was not too busy on a week day. Service is really great our server was so helpful helping us out with specials and describing specific pancakes. She was incredibly sweet (like southern mama sweet). Definitely would go back. The food has amazing flavor you can tell it has heart. They don't hold back on ingredients. We got a pecan waffle. Let me tell you that thing had pecans! And the hash-browns with butter, oh boy they went ham on it. It was so buttery and flavorful. We also got eggs with bacon. The bacon was THICK in the best way possible. I cannot sing the praises of this place enough! My fiance is in a wheelchair, so accessibility is our first hurdle any new place we go. We arrived and immediately the staff was so attentive, coming to assist with the lift outside. And they mentioned that if the lift is down for some reason, they also have a ramp to deploy in the back to provide access, which was incredible to hear. The restaurant is charming inside and laid out with plenty of room to navigate and also enjoy your breakfast without feeling like you're on top of anyone else. The service continued to be absolutely stellar, with everyone working in a flow to make the experience flawless. The food was PHENOMENAL, with fluffy pancakes and crispy thick bacon! I'm still dreaming of the pineapple pancakes with tropical syrup... delicious! Their coffee was perfect, too, and I had their awesome cold brew. To top off this experience, the prices cannot be beat. I generally get the bacon and eggs (some of the best bacon you'll find in a breakfast place) and then upgrade my pancakes to one of the many flavors. What else is great? There is also a German pancake that's huge, thin, and puffy topped with powdered sugar that I'd recommend. The hash browns are almost a thick potato rosti, turned out from a small cast iron pan. Iced tea and coffee are fresh-brewed and you can get free refills on coffee, tea, and hot chocolate! Who refills hot chocolate? Service is fast, efficient, and spot-on. We came around 8 in the morning and it was already pretty crowded, there is a parking lot on back you will have to turn into a small entrance from the street to get to. I love the vintage graphics on the cups, unchanged artwork since 1953! Outside is a strangely updated and modern street sign and I wish they had kept the old logo. Corned Beef Hash: 5 stars, it was covered in crunchy charred bits that I rarely see and it tasted amazing, gave the already delicious corned beef a crunchy, bacon like quality and reminded me of a a smash burger. I've had better and wouldn't recommend it here. The Sausage Links ($7.75) came with a small portion for the price, and they were a little burnt. I wouldn't order them here. I've been here once before years ago and remember that it was very good. I had the opportunity to visit again this Thanksgiving weekend, Black Friday to be exact, and the place was jumpin'. They were packed, the parking lot was full, but fortunately we were able to get the handicap spaces right in the front. They do have handicap access with a built in wheelchair lift right outside the entrance next to the stairs. I really appreciated the help from the kind and helpful staff in getting me and my walker safely up and down. We were a party of 6, and were seated in less than 5 min on Black Friday. Our waiter was Jose (I hope I remembered correctly). Oh my goodness, this man was amazing. He did flips and jumped through hurdles to make our dining experience a very enjoyable time. This man deserves a raise! He worked tirelessly helping all of his customers. My order was the Fresh Vegetarian Omelette and since I don't eat tomatoes, I requested to substitute for spinach and they did with no issue. My second substitution was a specialty waffle instead of pancakes and that was also done without any issue. I love to go to restaurants that don't mind accommodating their guests according to different tastes or dietary requests. The Fresh Vegetarian Omelette was phenomenal. I love how everything is round. The omelettes are round like a stuffed egg soufflé or quiche. Inside was broccoli, spinach, and mushrooms. Topped with Jack cheese. The round hashbrowns, I believe, are sent down from heaven because they are buttery and crispy and all the things you would dream them to be. Our entire table shared one order of hashbrowns, but I'm telling you now...get your own for yourself. You're not going to want to share after you taste them. The Apple Waffle was also delicious. I didn't care for the warm apple syrup that is made in house, but I did like it with the maple syrup. The Granny Smith apples that were supposedly inside the waffle weren't very noticeable or seen, but I could taste the essence of apple. Otherwise, I like that they use the thin waffle makers instead of the thick, Belgian style makers. I prefer the thinner waffle, which I feel makes a crisper outer coating. If you're ever in town for a trip to Disneyland or a concert or show, make sure you stop by the Original Pancake House before you return home. I ended up opting for a Chorizo Omelette. The Omelette was served in a shape more akin to a round, flat loaf of bread. The eggs were very fluffy, perhaps a little too fluffy. I don't find chorizo to have a very overpowering taste, so the mild chorizo taste was perfectly acceptable to me. The table service was very friendly. Orders were very quickly prepared by the kitchen. Parking can be a problem. At busy hours, which means most of the time when they're open, the parking lot in the back can become full. The food here is good. That's not the reason for my low review. They have yelp check in waitlist but they don't seem to understand how to use it. If the person is physically at the location to place their name in the wait then they should have priority. If your wait it an hour and half and there's only 6 parties waiting outside then those 6 should get priority. It's ridiculous to say that unknown parties get priority. That's why you should increase the wait time for the list online to take into account of the parties that check in in person. It's also not fair to the elderly that may not be tech savvy to know how to check in. There's a better system to work with. I love this restaurant but it was my first time at this location. I don't arrive at restaurants within 30-45 min of closing as a rule. However, I had literally planned a doctor's apt (an hr away) to eat here! It ran late. I arrived at 1:45. The staff were 100% welcoming and wonderful! Found out it's the second location to Portland. Interior is just right. My food was all excellent! Corned beef hash w two poached eggs and I subbed for potato pancakes!!! Thee BEST! Fresh oj too. YUM! Server Janette completely rocks... I go to this place once a year when I go to the Anaheim convention center for work. It takes over 10 minutes to get there from there, but it's worth it to me because I love the food and the service we get! They are often very busy because they serve good food, but there is always a table for me early in the morning! read more
