Sam's Donuts in Santa Ana has one of the best tuna sandwiches for absolutely no reason. I drive all the way from Newport just to get it, which sounds ridiculous until you actually try one. The key is that it has to be on the croissant. I always add avocado, and somehow that turns it into something I start thinking about again before I even make it home. I honestly don't know where they get their tuna, but somebody back there clearly knows something the rest of us don't. I'll be honest, it's not the cleanest or fanciest place, but the food and low prices more than make up for it. You're not coming here for chandeliers and white tablecloths you're coming for a tuna croissant that has no business being this good. And yes, I'm going to say it: the tuna sandwich is better than Porto's Bakery. Coming here used to feel like a small mission because they were cash-only. You had to want that sandwich badly enough to find an ATM first. Thankfully, they take cards now, so the journey is much easier. Great value, friendly service, and one of my favorite hidden spots in Santa Ana. The donuts are good, but that tuna croissant is the real celebrity. read more

All the doughnuts are classic and taste phenomenal. Always fresh, consistent, and never disappoint! My apartment complex put me on ever since they started bringing in a box at least once a week. So, I have had a chance to try almost all of the doughnuts from the assortment. You can't go wrong with any of them, but my favorites are the maple bar, sugar doughnut, or any of the frosted doughnuts. They are all decent size, all soft and spongy on the inside, and have a glaze is not overpoweringly sweet on the outside. Paired with coffee, it's a tasty sweet treat to start off the morning. read more

Always drove by Sam's and finally decided to try it - officially a fan! The donuts were fresh and delicious and even tastier the next day. Prices were reasonable, there was plenty of parking and the staff were friendly. I'll be back to buy another dozen soon! read more

Sam's Donuts has The Best Donuts my students & I have had!! I highly recommend Sam's Donuts.

Popped by mid-day to grab some donuts, the place is no-frills, but the service is great and the quality of their donuts is great. I got some old fashioned donuts and everything tasted fresh. I'll definitely plan to come by and try some other items next time, as I came later in the day and the selection was slightly limited. read more

Very kind and efficient staff! Sausage and cheese croissants come out fresh made to order! They work very hard early in the morning to serve the early birds, usually the workers who have to start work at 6am or earlier and need to eat and get coffee. Bustling atmosphere in the morning. Watch the documentary Donut King and you will have an idea of the backstory of how hard-working immigrants dominated the donut space in Orange County :) read more

Small little shop with friendly workers. The doughnuts were fresh, and the coffee was good. They also have sandwiches and bagels too.

This place makes the best sandwiches I've ever had! Every bite is packed with fresh ingredients and amazing flavor. You can tell they really care about quality -- the bread is always perfectly soft or toasty (depending on what you order), and the fillings are super generous. read more

For a GREAT hidden gem . This is your new go to spot! Always friendly and cheerful staff. This one time I taught the old lady and gentleman behind the counter to use the apple pay and samsung pay feature lol. I come here for the flakey crispy, croissants. They are next level. This place was stumbled upon while looking for donuts. Miraculously being as I am, experimental. I wanted a ham and cheese. However, it was dawn. So, I opted for the choice with egg. Now when I mean mind blown... I SERIOUSLY MEAN MIND BLOWN!.... I used to have another spot for breakfast croissants as I'm sure you do. That can all be dismissed now having a hand full of delicious fluffy eggs, that complements the store bought ham, and gooey cheese and mayo. I recommend asking for "easy" or "light" mayo. If your a first timer. Then bumb it up a notch. Your taste buds will thank me. If all else fails, there's a huge variety of donuts, breakfast sandwiches, croissants, bagels, and specialty drinks if your not interested in the breakfast . read more

Uhmmmm I've lived in the area for over 3 years and it wasn't until recently that my husband discovered this place. He brought home some croissant breakfast sandwiches, holy smokes! Some of the best I've had! I'm literally writing this as I came by before work to try their bagel breakfast sandwich since my husband says those were amazing as well...I know he came without me....the audacity. I will continue to get my beeline sandwich fix here and no where else. The people working are also very friendly and in a good mood :) read more

Walked by this cute little shop after dropping my car off at local shop for some maintenance. One of the owners (the wife) was there and she was so sweet. A real joy to talk with. Sam's has a variety of items available. I got 2 donuts and the turkey, ham, & egg croissant with cheese and jalapeños. All of it was less than $8, for great sized portions. The sandwich was delicious, and the egg looked fairly thick, and the cheese was deliciously melted and gooey! The donuts were fairly above your average. The vibe, atmosphere, and food definitely worth 5-stars!! I still have leftovers too! read more

Super cute, family owned donut shops that sells some of the most delicious breakfast sandwiches. Everything on their menu is delicious and super affordable. You definitely get bang for your buck. Just don't forget you can add jalapeños and avocado on any sandwich. I also recommend ordering ahead, the lines in the morning can get pretty long. Yes, it's that popular. Shop small, you won't regret it here. read more

Sam's Donuts is a great mom&pop donut shop. It's super unassuming, but they have great service, amazing sandwiches, and perfect sweetness donuts all at an affordable price. read more

This is very much your typical mom and pop doughnut shop. It's located on the corner of Grand and Fairhaven next to a 7-11. Its a very small corner lot with limited parking. The plaza itself is a little beat up. The shop is small with limited seating. There may be 3-2 seater tables at most with even just ordering and waiting around to be a little tight in space. The shop is incredibly warm due to the small proximity mixed with the doughnuts and pastries being made in the back. You will smell like doughnuts if you're in there for even 5 minutes. They have your typical doughnuts which I was not too much of a fan. They tasted like they were made in oil that was a little old. It had that burnt, bitter after taste to it. It's very mild, though, so I'm sure for some people, it tastes like an average doughnut. The ice coffee is premade and chalked full of sugar and cream. I don't recommend. They do offer a wide assortment of sandwiches which I thought was nice. From croissants to bagels to just your average sliced bread, they offer all sorts of meats including a breakfast assortment to choose from. They're pretty tasty hot. Keep in mind, they offer jalapenos and they're sandwiches come with mayo. read more

I love waking up on a weekend, walking a block, and entering these doors to see the warm, friendly faces of Sam & his family - knowing a perfect, piping hot breakfast sam will be in my hand in less than five minutes BF and I are devout fans of #15 + avo for me / they use kielbasa instead of a traditional breakfast sausage, something I wouldn't normally be stoked on - but it's amazing. Great customer service and good doughnuts. I also tried the ham and cheese croissant. Wasn't too notch but it was also stuffed with cheese and a pretty big size. I can't complain. read more

A small little family owned donut shop. Plenty of options to choose from and all fresh. Our usual order are breakfast sandwiches and iced coffee. All sandwiches I have tried so far are made fresh to order and are absolutely delicious. The iced coffee also tastes great. Highly recommend. If you are in a hurry however try to order ahead via phone. As the sandwiches are made fresh they can take up to 15 mins to get to you, but they are absolutely worth the wait. read more

Sam's Donuts is great! A totally underrated spot to grab a doughnut, coffee, or even sandwich. I've lived across the street for 5 years and just recently discovered Sam's Donuts. It's quietly tucked away in a strip plaza, so I suppose it might be easy to miss. The parking lot isn't huge, but I've never had any issues with parking. The first thing you'll notice is the top-notch customer service. The owners are genuinely nice people that take pride in their business. They're warm, friendly, and always willing to help you right away. You might even get a few extra doughnut holes with your order...but you didn't hear it from me. The doughnut selection isn't huge. With that said, you can find the classics - bear claws, old fashions, twists, etc. A dozen doughnuts goes for around $8.50. I'm also a huge fan of their iced coffee. A large iced coffee costs only $2.99 - tastier and cheaper than Starbucks! Don't sleep on the bagels and sandwiches either. You can get a fresh, toasted sandwich or bagel for only $3.99! Interior is simple, yet tidy and clean. Seating is limited, but there's usually always one table open. Long live Sam's Donuts! read more
