I live close to this donut shop so decided to stop by before work to get a dozen of donuts for my colleagues. Any time I come here, the workers are fast and the donuts are fresh. I ordered a mixture of different donuts. My favorite is the maple bar and they make it great. It's not too sweet and not too doughy. Glazed, jelly-filled, and chocolate are also great. The box of a dozen has gone up in price but, like everything else, it was expected. I would have added some more Valentine's donuts, if I known. Overall, great spot and great donuts! read more

The service was exceptionally RUDE. I went in around 6 pm in the mood for a boba and right off the bat it seemed like my order was the greatest hassle of her life. I ordered a Taro smoothie and a cookies and cream smoothie when I noticed her place the boba in the microwave. The Taro smoothie tasted as if it had expired milk, and I love taro teas/smoothies. -1 star I couldn't add a review w/ Zero stars. Haven't been here for years and now I remember why. Service is okay I guess, but it just sucks when you get gypped on purpose to your face. You will always feel welcome at Donut Star and will be greeted warmly by the friendly staff. The neighborhood feels a strong connection to this shop, and there are many repeat customers. Most of all the donuts are the best in town. The baker works hard to make sure that everything is made well. The breakfast sandwiches are very generous and are priced way lower than you would find them anywhere else. They're really delicious. Especially with the fresh baked croissants. Two words. Maple Bars!! Currently priced at $1.50 if you buy one. Still a good deal with inflation. I rarely buy more than a couple donuts at a time unless I'm buying for the office, but I do see the disappointment sometimes on the employees (owners?) face when that's all I want. I consider myself a coinsurer of maple bars. Since I was a kid, they've always been my favorite. This place doesn't disappoint, although not quite my favorite. The maple frosting is top notch. Very rich and creamy. The bun itself is very soft on the inside, but the outside sometimes has a little firmness, maybe caused by some dryness, but it's a small detail that keeps it from getting a 5-star review. They do have some fun donuts, with cereal toppings and chocolate chips. To me, those are a rare splurge because I just don't need the sugar content on top of what's already there, but they are still a fun indulgence once or twice a year. The service is on par with other donut shops. Don't expect overly friendly service, but they are efficient. read more

I would not recommend this donut shop. I ordered a raspberry filled and a chocolate glazed. The raspberry filled like it had been dipped twice and sugar, which was overwhelming and the chocolate glazed donut mostly tasted like sugar and no chocolate flavor. The other donuts in the case, kind of looked strange like the toppings have been smeared on with a pastry knife. Not smooth like I'm use to seeing. Now the strangest part. I see that there are premade Starbucks Frappuccino for $4.50. So I ask for one of those and the cashier says, "why don't you have one of our premade drinks for $7?" I was like I don't want to spend $7. She shrugged and sold me the Starbucks drink. I left to find out the Starbucks drink is spoiled and has huge curds floating in it. Expiration was 6/23. First and last time i will be coming here. Tried ordering a breakfast sandwich and asked to switch out mayo for light cream cheese and was told it would cost $1 extra for light cream cheese so i turn it down (mind you the sandwich is already $7). Ordered 4 donuts and the lady smashed them into one small bag; the donuts were literally falling out. I asked for a box, she said "6 donuts minimum or i charge you for the box" at this point i asked for small white bags for each donut bc i rather have that than them falling out on the counter. I stopped by this morning around 6 am and everything was fresh fresh! I ordered a croissant sandwich and it was delicious. So flaky and buttery. Ended up having to walk around Orange for 8-9 miles while my car was being worked on. Found this place while I was dehydrated and burned out around mile 8. Ice cold water and some damn good donuts, all for under $3. Also indoor seating with air conditioning. Not quite a life saver but pretty close read more

Poor customer service. The front sign said "open" yet the employees were mopping up and then grumbled about me coming in to purchase some donuts. I asked whether they're still receiving guests and the employee mopping just grumbled inaudibly. The cashier was more service oriented but didn't bother to tell me how much my items were at check out and just stood there so I had to guess how much the donuts cost. Never returning. read more

Not sure how this place has 4.5 stars. Came here with my 2 year old last week and I bought a ham and cheese croissant, some donut holes, a Snapple and a capri sun. My husband brought home a donut for him and a cinnamon crumb for me. His Apple fritter he said was terrible. And my cinnamon crumb cake donut was super dry and seemed as if it was a day old. Plus, normally the cake ones have cinnamon crumb all the way around them. We won't be back. read more

The Pumpkin Spice Cake was $2.79 for a donut that seemed about half the size they used to be, and the flavor was overwhelmingly artificial. The Blueberry Glazed was no better, it tasted so synthetic. Krispy Kreme, you should be ashamed of what you're putting out as a premium-priced product. Smaller portions, higher prices, and flavors that taste increasingly manufactured and chemical is not an improvement in any conceivable way. At this point, these don't taste like freshly made donuts. They taste like a deep-fried loaf of artificially flavored crap dressed up with seasonal marketing.

This is my FAVORITE DONUT & BOBA place. Located on Glassell and right across from a local 7 Eleven, this Donut Star has become part of my weekly routine. I literally come here every single Friday & order 2 Honeydew Bobas with whipped cream for my mom and myself. Their boba is very delicious! I love their honeydew flavor because it tastes very refreshing. Not many boba places have honeydew on their menu, so if you're looking for a new flavor to try - I HIGHLY recommend their Honeydew! The donuts are also very good! A good amount of variety and during different holidays, they make these decorative donuts (pictured here) that are topped with a sweet, chocolate-y layer. Aside from donuts, they also offer a variety of croissants and muffins. My mom has gotten their ham & cheese croissant and says it's easily one of her favorite local breakfast foods. Their prices are very reasonable and the service is excellent. Even though the parking lot may be small, whenever I've come here, parking is never an issue. You make your purchase at the window (no inside entry) and they clearly display all the fresh donuts they have at the moment in the window. There is some seating outside if you are lucky enough to grab a spot from one of the regulars but I have eaten most of my fair share right in my own car in the parking lot.
