I was worried when I received my dream wedding dress and it was two sizes too big. I was not familiar with any alteration businesses in the area, so I asked around and was sent to Donna, and I am so glad I was. I cannot be happier with the way my wedding dress turned out. They took my dress from being grossly oversized and made it fit me like it was made for me. It was two pieces and silk chiffon, so it was a hard material to work with, but you would have never guessed with how beautiful and professional it looked. It also needed to be lined and the appearance and feel of the lining was so great, it looked as though it was original to the dress. These women might just be my fairy godmother. Who else can take shapeless dresses and turn them in to beautiful gowns? Tucked away, off of 116th street, in the track houses across from Handels Ice Cream, it would be easy to overlook them, but don't make that mistake. The place is small with a few changing rooms and their workplace, but what they lack in size, they make up for in dependable services and good prices. I have been using these ladies for the past ten years and have always been happy with their work. Their most recent undertaking for me was a lace bridesmaid's dress that was 4 sizes too big and reworking the entire gown to fit me. WOW! They really do a fantastic job. I had to get couple of my pants to be hemmed. The length were too long for me, so when I got them hemmed here. I couldn't believe what great job that they did. All three pants length where the same length and you cannot tell that they were hemmed at all. And the pants are still holding up even after 3 months. read more

I had to order my dress for my friends wedding from the internet. And, as expected, things didn't go well. When I received my non refundable dress it was TWO sizes too big. Ugh. What a nightmare. So being new to the area I had NO clue who was "good". I took a shot in the dark and came to Donnas. Upon arrival I'll admit I was a bit skeptical and the fact that it took all of 3 minutes for my dress to be pinned I was more than concerned for the final product. After picking up my dress today I am SO relieved and beyond pleased with my choice to come here. My dress fits PERFECTLY. I had 2 dresses altered. They were not traditional wedding dresses but long white dresses with a train that I wanted to wear as a wedding dress. They were both too long in the front and needed to be altered. I called in and told the women that i was needing the length of 2 dresses that i was considering for wedding dresses altered. she said i didn't need an appointment. The following week I went in and a woman helped me by pinning the 2 dresses. She complained about me not making an appointment. I told her i wanted the length in the front shorter and have it tapered to the back so there was till a train. I picked up my dresses today and one of them is completely cut off at the bottom. No train. Unfortunately, this one was my favorite one out of the two and now the train look is gone. Also, one of the clips on the back is missing and it was there when I turned it in. But that can be replaced for 2.00. But material cut off that wasn't supposed to be can't be replaced. read more

Donna's does great work, I have always been happy when I pick my items up. However, they don't hold their hours. It is now the 3rd time in the last 2 weeks I have come to pick up my items and drop off during the posted business hours and they are not open. Their location is not convenient in my daily life so I have to make a special trip. And for the 3rd time, it was wasted. I will continue to go there and recommend them. I just wish they would be open when they say they will be. read more

I took a bridesmaid dress in that needed some pretty complicated alterations. It was about a size too big and had weird pleats in the front that made it bulge out in the stomach area (not flattering). The fabric also seemed difficult to work with. The lady there was so nice and helped me figure out what would make it look best. It took no time at all and she had my dress back to me in 10 days. It looks great and fits so much better! Price was a little more than $40. They are also open on Saturday mornings which I found very convenient. I'm very happy with the service I received! read more

I brought my daughter's prom dress here for the past 2 years. They were friendly and helpful and the alternations work was done well and in a timely manner. They have convenient hours through the week as well as all day on Saturday which is a plus for me. The prices were fair and the work was quality. When we came in this year, they even added an extra clasp (that was missing from the dress manufacturer when we bought it online) while we waited! I have also brought in little things that needed straps shortened etc and they were always done timely and fit perfectly. While there may have been some issues in the past, I think management may have changed since then. The gentleman that runs the shop now is very personable and professional. They are very accommodating when you need things done quickly. I would recommend Donna's for all alternations. read more
