I would give this place no stars if it were an option! I have been going to this store for years, as it is the closest to my house. The last two times I went there to buy balloons, the employees were visably annoyed to help me with the balloons. The last time I was there, it was also clear that the cashier and the other employee weren't getting along. Cashier made a snyde comment about the other employee directly to me and other customers. Cheap merchandise, I'm OK with that. When one enters a "dollar store" one has expectations of a certain level of merchandise. What I did not expect is being checked out at the register by an employee wearing a full coverage burka. Head to toe unrecognizable- wearing her glasses on the outside of her face veil. It was so off-putting that I put down items I had intended to buy - and I walked out. This woman is free (?) to wear whatever she wants. Not my business. Dollar Tree is free to hire anyone they want. Not my business. I am free to react in a negative way when I am expected to purchase items from a person who hides her identity. Politically incorrect of me? I don't agree. I don't know what people giving really low reviews expect? This is what it is...it is a DOLLAR store...NOT Macy's. Accordingly, I found this store in Santa Clara to be MUCH NEATER and organized than Sunnyvale. How nice it is to be able to find things by category that are not all torn apart. If you had to handle lines of people who give you nothing but GRIEF each day, I would try and maybe given them a little slack. Let's see "Joe customer" back there ringing up items and turn the tables. I appreciate an organized store with constant variety of items. Monday evening near closing time, I brought my 9 selections to the register. There was a customer before me with, what seamed to be two, piles of merchandise on the belt . I looked around for a divider rod to lay between my stuff, and the customer in front of me, but I didn't see any nearby, so I just put as much space between my pile and the one in front of me. I watched as the cashier seems to have finished the previous customer fearing that mine might accidentally be co-mingled with the predecessor. She finished and handed the bags to the customer, who walked away. While waiting, I had made a quick count of my items knowing each would be a $1 + some tax, so I pulled out 2 $5 bills. She scanned my items quickly, and I was mentally counting the beeps for each scan, but I thought I heard 11, so not seeing anything abnormal when she gave me the total of $10.83 I just thought that I much have miscounted. Shame on me! I got home and passed out the boxes of candy and started to put the rest away, when I came to a box of C&H sugar. I KNOW I never had that in my hand or on the belt. I took it in this evening with my receipt, in the original bag. One woman was checking customers, while another guy was standing 2 register down looking at a clipboard. I approached him and ask if he would do a return for me, please. He then said they don't do refunds, just exchanges. I explained what happened as I just wrote above. He said that was their policy and I would have to speak to a manager (reasonable, I thought) so I asked him to call the manager over. He say there wasn't one here now and I'd have to come back at some other (unspecified) time. He went on to explain that he couldn't do refunds, only a manager. I requested that he call a manager. he say no one was available, so I asked that he call a district manager. I mentioned that this was business hours, the store would be open for 2 more hours this evening, somebody should be in charge and a least available by phone. Finally, he took the box of sugar over to the open register, sort of pushed the cashier aside, and started entering codes. He grabbed the box in a huffy, banging manor, seeming to be very annoyed as he grabbed a dollar bill from the draw and almost threw it at me. I thanked him and walked out. When I went in and past the registers, I discovered that they do have dividers for the checkout belt, but they have a huge display of merchandise hanging way over the belt and completely hiding access and visibility to the divider bars. I can only guess that the sugar box really belonged to the customer in front of me and likely was put in the bag, the then took the rest of my purchases. I don't know about the 11 beeps I counted, but I'll be paying much closer attention in the next check-out line I'm in. Kicking myself for not checking the bag out before leaving, but I hate to hold up customers behind me because I didn't count carefully enough. This is still poor customer service, and you need to double check your purchases before you leave the register, even if you have to dump it all out to check it. And go ahead and ask strongly for the cashier to hand you a divider bar before you place any of your items on the belt. I was also dismayed by the announcement at 8:30 PM instructing that the store would be closing in 30 minutes and please bring all your purchases to the registers now. The announcement was repeated about every 10 minutes. That kind of rhetoric, at that place in time, drives me away from feeling welcomed by that store. Something more like "Customers, our store will be closing in 30 minutes at 9 PM, until then, please enjoy your shopping experience. If we can help you find something, please feel free to ask any of our associates. Thanks for shopping at Dollar Tree. read more

First off, Sal gets 5/5 stars. He is ALWAYS available to either help his customers OR his fellow employees. Sal is such a great customer service worker! I WOULD have given this rating a 5/5 BUT there were only 2 check out stands open and the lines were very long. WHEN they finally opened up a new register, the employee did NOT take the people who had been waiting Iine first. So people just getting in line were helped right away. NOT GOOD customer service. I liked this Dollar Tree. I walked in and noticed that mostly everything was clean and organized well (That's unusual for most dollar stores). In most cases, at a store like this, you get what you pay for, but if you're really looking you can find some stuff that's pretty decent in quality. I'll be going back there soon. read more

Well, where do I start? I am planning my best friend daughter wedding! call me lucky. So, after spending the weekend in Santa Clara we thought that checking the Dollar Store next to my friends house will be a good starting point. As we walked to the store, I have to admit...It was the cleanest I have seen in a long time, we were greeted with a big smile by a cashier and another employee as she was helping another customer carry bags to her car. (found out later it was the store manager) wow' after spending nearly 30 minutes of getting excited with all that I could buy and use. I needed large quantity of everything at this point and went to ask for help, a very nice lady, tall and somewhat blonde was working at register #1, she smiled and replied with I will be with you in just couple of minutes....and it was just that. I told her about the wedding plans, theme etc...she explained the complete process of how to get online and order it directly while it will cost nothing to ship to store. Well, I have to say; I was truly impressed with that manager, she had proven to me that 100% customer satisfaction later she told me its her every day goal no matter what! Way to go Dollar Tree Store! I left smiling and happy to know I can get it all for less than I would shop elsewhere. This place is like the dollar trap at target. The quality is pretty decent for $1, selection wide, and pretty nicely organized. It is in contrast to its sister store down the street in Sunnyvale, which is a disaster. This location has never been that crowded and pretty clean. I stock up on kids supplies and Mylar balloons. If you buy Mylar balloons, you will freak out if you find out you can buy them for $1. Not kidding. You can also order the balloons ahead of time so they don't run out. Pretty cool, huh? The Bay Area cost of living is super high. Save some money here so you can spend it on useful things like healthy food for the family. read more

For a store this size, one cashier at the lunch hour is ridiculous. In addition, they will not let you take the cart outside so you have to leave your cart with your paid for items inside with the lone cashier where anyone can steal your paid for items and hope they don't get stolen then drive your car around and load it your self. Inconvenient and a total waste of my time to lug the bags out one by one. Rude and crappy service here, shelves empty for a store this size as well. I won't be going back. read more

The line is literally to the back of the store and there is only one register open, one of the employees is walking around or blowing up balloons which i'm sure can wait until the line is down. This store needs more employees, it's the holidays so it's bound to be crowded daily. People are literally leaving their items behind and walking out. read more

This dollar tree has plenty of variety from home goods, to cards, cleaning supplies, food, picture frames, party decorations/balloons, etc. For the variety and low price I'd give this place 4.5 stars. However the reason I give it 3 stars is because it needs LOTS of improvement on its cleanliness and organization. I definitely believe this store can be improved if the staff kept the sections organized, picked up/swept trash and cared about its business appeal. I prefer this Dollar Tree 5x more then the one in Sunnyvale because of how organized it is. But boy oh boy does their parking suck. We NEVER find parking on the first try. Usually we have to take turns in the car driving around or wait 5-10 minutes for a spot. read more

Walked in and they did not have any hand baskets. When I asked where they were they said they were being used by other customers. There was hardly anyone there and I did not see one customer with a hand basket. I did however see many hand baskets being used to hold merchandise. I only needed a few small things and did want to push those annoying carts around the store. Oh well. read more

I and many of my friends have shopped at this store many times. I went there today to purchase a whole bunch of items for an upcoming event, and so I went to get a rolling cart. I was pushing the cart from where they are located inside the store to the left of where you enter, past the front door to the First Row, when the cart abruptly stopped and I slammed my shin bone into the metal bar at the bottom of the cart. I immediately brought this to the Manger's attention, which wasn't hard, because I was about 10 feet away, right in front of where she was working (I got an immediate bruise and dent in my skin) and she neither apologized or came over to see if I was ok. I was told that there is a sign on the door clearly stating that the carts will not be able to leave the store. There is a sign. It does NOT say, "If you walk within 3 feet of the front door, your cart will abruptly stop and you might run into it." After a while she asked if I wanted to file an incident report and I told her I did. 15 minutes later, she came out of the office with a form that neither gave me any contact information for the owner or district manager, nor did it ask for my information. I repeatedly asked for an apology (that's all I really wanted from the outset). She said, "I'm sorry" completely without feeling and said she didn't really care. She didn't know how to fill out the incident report. She said that it wasn't her responsibility to fix the cart situation. I asked the manager and employees nearby (since evidently everyone was a part of the conversation as she didn't even ask me to sit down or go to a quiet corner to discuss the matter), how a customer is supposed to get a cart and then start shopping in the first aisle and was informed I would have to walk around the entire section in front of the door or this would happen, as it has many times before. So they know this is an issue, but no one is fixing it. Or working around it, but putting carts on either side of the front doors. What kind of customer service is that?? She and the staff just kept saying it was my fault and I should have read the sign. That was behind me. And spoke of a cart LEAVING the store, not going around the inside of the store. I know this is a low end store, but customers are being inconvenienced (and injured) for just trying to shop. I will never shop here again. Fair warning: use a basked if you do shop there. read more

Visited this location last week. Poorly stocked and store was generally filthy. Staff were attempting to sweep carpeting with a broom, and there was trash everywhere. Very disappointing. Plus you now have to pay for a shopping cart. I would have purchased more items but decided to leave because of that. read more

The first visit I was a little upset with my cashier, she wasn't paying attention, had her phone out and was tossing my stuff to the side pretty aggressively. I normally wouldn't care but I had gotten multiple push button necklace lights and because of the quality I know they aren't suppose to last long but I know one drop could cause them to stop working and each toss was like a aggressive drop. The second visit I was unaware that I couldn't return and that was my bad but when I came to the cashier she gave me so much attitude and yelled at me twice asking what I was buying. It would have been appropriate to simple say we don't have returns but we do exchanges when she saw me with my $ tree bag and receipt in hand with no other products to exchange. It took longer for her to yell saying what are you buying and me saying I'd like to return and her reply again what are you buying and me say returning and her saying you can't do that only exchange. read more

It seems that every time I visit this store, there is a checkout line stretches all the way around the inside of the store. Today, I went into the store to purchase just 3 packages of super glue, little did I know that I would have to wait in a line starting at the back of the store for 30 minutes. On top of that, the line kept growing longer as more customers began to enter the store. There was only one checkout lane open during the duration of the wait, as I approached closer to the register, I noticed that there were 2 employees working at the same checkout lane. One was running the register and the other was bagging the scanned products for the customers. Which seemed like a waste of resources since the last time I checked, Dollar Tree was not a grocery store like Safeway. Finally, two more employees showed up, and inserted of the 2 employees opening a lane each, we got to experience the same Safeway styled handling of the situation. I'd advise people to stay away from this location. The management running this location is obviously not very good at management, customer service care and efficiency. Then again, most Dollar Tree locations look very unorganized and poorly managed when it comes to checkout lanes. But at $1 for the products, you get what you pay for in customer service as well. read more

Great dollar store. The place is clean, not a busy store so new stuff stays on the shelves a little longer and its close. They sometimes get good brand products i.e Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa and Josephs cookies etc...It is located on the El Camino so the later you go there can be a few undesirables hanging out front. BUT I have never had a problem. Fingers crossed the store relocates to the new Santa Clara Towne Center and maybe a larger store! read more

I like shopping at $Tree, good deal! This store, however, doesn't get the new products earlier or faster than Sunnyvale store. It is always crowded and sometimes you wait a bit in the line. Hope the owner doesn't mind that he will and is losing business at nite because of the so called "manager". Don't know his name because he wiped it off his name tag - but you cannot miss him. The small one with the big mouth yelling at you. He has no business being in that type of position. He has no respect to customers and shows it by yelling at you! He has had a rotten attitude every time I have stopped in on my way home. It appears we, customers, annoy him by coming in and shopping 30 min to closing. He is EXTREMELY rude little guy he is always yelling at you "You know it almost 10pm!" "We close at 10pm!" ( and it is only 9:30p)- Last nite,(Monday 6/27/16) was it - he tried to close the doors about 9:45p and a woman and her daughter(?) came in quickly, as they close at 10pm and it was not 10 so store WAS OPEN - he belittled her by yelling at her from the front doors across the way to where we were standing in line, about 9 of us. Only one cashier, (poor thing) and he was yelling at the customer- "We close in 4 min, you have to be checked out or you have to go, can you do that, huh?" and we heard " I can do what ever I want." and "Don't stare at me,stop looking at me" I believe we were all female customers. We all were so horrified at his mouth and behavior - Upon exiting, a woman asked who the owner was and he said "You will never find out" it is impossible to find that out." He would not give her the owners name. In short.....HE HAS TO GO! He got mouthy with me as I left, but I just ignored him - No need for rude staff at anyplace of business - There are many of these stores close by - If you want to leave at 10:00pm then I suggest you close the store to customers at your apparently preferred 9:30pm or even better yet, GO WORK SOMEWHERE ELSE - Customers = $$ which also = job- read more
