As Tom Petty once said, waiting is the hardest part. It is believed this utterance was inspired by one of his visits to Doc & Bubba's. So this place is kinda out there - a ways south of Reading. The Jewel of Mohnton, they call it. No reservations. That's a big one, primarily because the wait - even on weeknights - can be heinous. To make matters worse, the lobby can fill to capacity quick. I think we went on a Tuesday, and the only place to stand was basically in the doorway separating the bar and the hosting area. There was tons of traffic, and it made things very tight. Believe you me when I say many an "Excuse me," "Pardon me," and "Coming through" were exchanged. What's disappointing is once you do finally get to sit down, service doesn't ever pick up, either. You'd think one benefit of having a wait would be to control the flow of diners, ensuring the kitchen doesn't get overloaded. That, unfortunately, wasn't the case. Honestly, there were spurts when it seemed the servers were attentive and checking up on things. They'd come back, rapid fire, all in the span of a few minutes. But then we wouldn't see them again for 15-20 minutes. That's no exaggeration, there were multiple 20+ minute periods where a server didn't even walk in our proximity. The whole dinner (not including the time spent waiting up front) took over three hours. There were three of us. There was no dessert round. Over three hours for a couple of burgers (medium),a salad, and everyone's favorite Asian fusion starter BANG BANG shrimp. That's crazy. As for the food, I guess it would be the highlight? Anything would be a highlight aside from the above, uh, hiccup. It was solid, right on par with - what I guess I'd describe as "brewery" food - apps that are a step up from mozzarella sticks and onion rings if you catch my drift. The burgers were served in these greyish cafeteria tray-like things. I did like the fry basket, very nice touch, as were the shining silver metal ramekins (simply a cut above plastic). It made me feel like a distinguished gentleman. Gotta give further props to the cutlery, glassware, and salt/pepper shakers. Does anyone else mention the shakers? That's why I'm the best in the biz, people. Pink Himalayan sea salt is what they're working with. And a whole peppercorn blend. Yes, a blend. I can't remember if this is the place with metal straws. You know, the ones where someone can come up and pat you on the back and consequently impale your throat. Yeah, I can't recall. They were either metal or cardboard. What happened to the humble plastic straw? Everything has to be the extreme, in one direction or the other. Doc & Bubba's is worth a visit. One. One visit so you can say you've been there if someone casually brings it up in conversation. "Rob and I tried that Doc and Bubba's the oth-" "I'VE EATEN THERE!" "Uh, that's great, Mike." If you do end up going, it's probably best to allocate at least a three hour chunk of your evening. You may have to tell your pals you'll be late for the bonfire at the cabin owned by that one friend who insisted on living off the grid so he could grow his special crops. read more

I love the ambiance and beautiful atmosphere, But I think the food needs a lot of help. We had simple meals, I had the crispy chicken sandwich, It was cooked about 10 minutes too long. The chicken isn't supposed to be crunchy, The outside breading should be. We got our fries when we were done with our sandwiches. They apologized, But did absolutely nothing about it. We even had a manager come by and he just was full of excuses. Step it up, I feel that the few times we have been here there is always a problem. The parking is horrendous! Went to the location on 6/10 for a work dinner with 12 people, was seated and took 1hr and 10 minutes for us to get our food, was told after waiting that they were short staffed, service was very slow. If you can't service a group don't seat us. Food came out, parts of the order were missing, they were out of certain condiments. Get the bill, 20% gratuity added to the bill when the website says that "20% may be added". Would have been nice if the server would have told me. Also got hit with a 3% credit card surcharge, not posted any where. This is a location that opened in 2022, service has gone down hill, for the price you would expect better service. The food was very good, I enjoyed my skillet with its delicious butter sauce but I the scallops did become overcooked due to cast irons residual heat. In the area and decided to try. Ordered the bang bang shrimp and the loaded tots for an appetizer. The bang bang shrimp were excellent and the tots were just okay, they needed a little something extra. Dinner we had the lobster roll on a toasted bun with butter and plenty of lobster meat. My son ordered the Bubba burger. It was cooked medium but the outside edges were very well done. My husband had blackened rib eye and it was cooked to perfection and he loved it! Dessert was the brown butter cake and a slice of cheesecake. The brown butter cake was amazing with fresh strawberries and blueberries topped with whipped cream. Third time there...it's my wife's Birthday! Where to eat??? Thought Doc&Bubbas was good last time. Thought - wife will really like this. Off we go! Got in and sat down right away. Right in front of a large screen tv and two speakers blasting tunes. Little over the top - was hoping to have a nice quiet or peaceful dinner for her Birthday. Oh well, not going to happen. So we sat and we sat... did I mention we were sitting till finally waitress shows up."I'm not your server but can I get you drinks" ok great, going to get drinks. Shows back up saying "here's your drinks, and it looks like I am your server" So we order. Again, the waiting game. We are talking and time is passing by till.... "Hi guys, sorry there must be computer problems and your order didn't go in". "Sorry" So we wait some more. Got chicken wings to start - no complaints Food comes and mine is the Cajun chicken Alfredo and she got fish and chips. Mine not to bad. Chicken was a little dry though. Wife's fish and chips she just was not loving it Ended up taking most of it home. Soooooooooooo, long story short. She doesn't want to go back. Very beautiful place! We only ever eat outside, even in the dead of winter. They have beautiful ponds & waterfalls, umbrellas, fire pit. It's so amazing outside. The food is very delicious and different types of meal options compared to other restaurants. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. Parking is limited and tight. It also isn't an in and out type of restaurant, it is a little slow. My last callout is although the food is delicious, it is never hot - always room temperature-ish. read more

We like the fact that this place is close to us and has a variety of seating. The mushroom appetizers is much too expensive and the mushrooms are very small and the crab meat has too much filling for the price. The sweet potato fries are delicious! The pizza is mediocre. Surprised by the lobster rolls, though, having been in Boston, and having had the best .. the lobster is cold and a bit watery, the flavors was not that great with the bun. Overall the food selections are spars and the menu prices do not match the quality of the food. So, had a large group tonight and the majority wanted to go check out Doc & Bubbas. First of all, who the hell knew Mohnton was so big, I lived in Shillington for a long time, and always thought you could just "2 minute drive" thru Mohnton, but turns out there's a lot of area considered Mohnton. pulled up to the restaurant and was impressed with their parking lot size , and the overall appearance of the lobby area and entrance. Felt very high end without the pretentiousness. Found my party, and ordered a beer and perused the menu. First, our waiter tonight, Michael F according to the receipt, was great. Our party was not easy to deal with. Everyone was catching up and not really paying attention to the normal dining rules, and he did wonderful with handling it all, including wishing the birthday ladies Happy Birthday when they arrived and when they left. The restaurant seating area was huge, we sat in the outdoor area, they had tons of heaters (it was 41 degrees outside and the heaters almost made it unbearably warm), and the atmosphere was great. The food was where it fell apart. The food is good! Dont' get me wrong. The food is actually pretty tasty, no one had any complaints... the food is also super pricey for literally being out in the middle of nowhere. This isn't having to pay Philly/ NYC prices. I want to again just say, there is NOTHING wrong with the food, there isn't anything inherently great about it either. It's a solid middle of the road meal with a really nice ambience and great service. If you need somewhere "new" for a date , or hosting some folks for a business meeting you can do a lot worse than this, it's very middle of the road, inoffensive with good food. read more

First time there. Ambiance is great. Really cool feel. Owner Ben stopped at the table and told us about the layout. Waitress was great and full of energy. It was busy during Saturday dinner rush. Drinks took a little longer than normal but really not that bad. Food order was placed and it took about 35-40 min for a pizza, burger, salad and quesadilla. And then the fries for the burger were coming in a few minutes. Burger was finished when I asked to not even bring the fries. For a place that's consistently busy I was surprised at the time it took for the food and to not even be able to get a fry order taken completed. However, server dealt with all of this and adjusted our bill accordingly and had a manager give an additional discount for the wait. We will definitely go back and take advantage of then outdoor seating. And we were appreciative of the server helping out on the bill. Hopefully it was just a random hiccup on the weekend. read more

This place really went down hill the prices went up but the food quality went down. First the hostess couldn't even tell us how long the wait was. The pizza looked like a frozen box pizza it didn't even have fresh mozzarella cheese on it. It was dry with barely any sauce. It was far from brick oven pizza like we always had before the bottom crust had markings like chuckie cheese pizza. They sat us with no plates and no silverware the waitress was not very attentive to us. My wife and daughter both ordered a martini it took forever to get the waitress said they were backed up at the bar. Chalk this up to one more place where some of the salads cost $17. Just salad, no chicken, shrimp or whatever. I don't know what this trend is in Berks county but I don't like it! I felt all in all, things were kind of expensive. We didn't have trouble parking but the lot is small and allegedly they run a shuttle sometimes? I have no details on that but be apprised. There is also a lovely view off the back deck, we sort of saw it, looked nice. We sat at the outdoor bar and had the lobster mac and cheese, a cheese steak sandwich and a $17 salad. The cheese steak was fine, nothing to write home about and the salad (did I mention $17) was also fine. My son enjoyed the mac and cheese but I agree with my wife it seemed quite buttery. I happen to really like butter but something of note. I have heard that not everyone loves butter?? Some things I don't understand. In summary it was fine, just fine. We went there for the first time today. We will definitely be back! The Sunday brunch menu was fantastic. The waitress could not have been better. It is certainly a hidden gem and our group was shocked that we hadn't been there before. The ambience was excellent with nice views. Waited months to try this place and to be quite frank, I won't be back or at least not until it's improved. While the place was beautifully redone, the bar itself is a bit oddly laid out. Upon arriving, we mentioned sitting at the bar. The hostess was less than thrilled to be there given her body language. She said yeah idk if there are any seats but you can go look. Now great service would have been to say "we've been really busy, but let me quickly go check at both bars for you." Nope, my husband had to ask where the bar or bars were in which she sorta just pointed in a general direction. We sat at the bar for what seemed like an eternity before being greeted. The one bartender would ask us a question, go back to speaking to a coworker and then had asked us to repeat. Again, poor customer service. So bad so, I would assume a manager said she would just go get my tea. The young male bartender looked to be frazzled but I feel like he was trying to make up for the slack of the other bartender. The tots were a big portion, but they were over fried and lacked flavor. I got the lobster roll and there was more celery than anything. The fries were cold and soggy. I'll start by saying I cannot knock the taste of the food or the ambiance. Great views and a nice atmosphere. But I need to ask the question... who came up with the prices? I ask because a salad with grilled chicken is $23. I've been to a grocery store and can confirm there is no combination of vegetables and chicken that can justify a Berks County $23 salad. Perhaps if I were ordering a salad on the Vegas Strip or if I happened to be in Times Square for New Years Eve... but certainly not in Mohnton, PA on a Tuesday night. This was our first visit. Our group meets the third Tuesday of the month. Reservations were easy to make. We were seated on the outside deck area. It was a nice day so it was very enjoyable being out there. The service was great along with the food. I had the crab stuffed portobello mushrooms and my wife had the chicken quesadilla. We recently had reservations for 7 people at 6:00pm on a featured espresso martini girls night. We didn't get our first drink until 7:15pm and even not all of us had our drink and continued to wait as they then came to tell us they didn't have the flights. Fine, we'll order regular size martinis. Sadly, these were the worst espresso martinis we've ever had. We continued to wait until we got our food at 8:00pm, out of order (apps with food) and cold. While we understood it was busy, never in our lives have we had such an awful experience, all while people were coming and going into the establishment getting served drinks and food. 4 of the 7 of us work in the service industry so we try to be very understanding, but this was challenging to do. The restaurant did comp our drinks and gave the table a $100 gift card without even having to ask, which we do appreciate, it certainly shouldn't even have to come to that. Unsure as to where the disconnect was. Was it the kitchen, the bar, our server, all of the above? On the ride back on the shuttle to the second parking lot because the first one was closed due to it being full, other passengers said they also had to wait entirely too long. While we as a group of girls can make the evening memorable and still enjoy each others company, this experience was not enjoyable. read more
