Expensive & weak drinks. No atmosphere to match the high end prices. $21 for 3 drinks! All ice & Coke.

Finding your way upstairs adds to the speakeasy-style charm. The reception area alone sets the vibe: playful, stylish, and full of photo-worthy moments before you even sit down. It feels like you've discovered something not everyone knows about. We went with the small plate prix fixe menu (three courses), and each dish was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and -- most importantly -- delicious. Every course left us wanting just a little more, which is exactly how a tasting-style experience should feel. Nothing felt rushed, and the pacing of the food was on point. Cocktails were also excellent, creative, well-balanced, and fitting for the ambiance. The only hiccup of the night was drink service being a bit slow. Not a dealbreaker by any means, but noticeable. Overall, a great Restaurant Week experience in a space that feels both intimate and fun. I'll absolutely be back to explore the full menu soon.

You go up some steep wooden stairs and enter the restaurant. Shout out to our pro server, Graham! He definitely cared about the experience he provided and that we would leave satisfied. Everything he suggested was awesome, lamb, duck, and sticky toffee cake were packed with flavor. But all the other dishes we had were amazing. You must not miss out on the liver pate with the bread as a sharing dish. We brought our own wine as I like to control that aspect when I can and going to an unfamiliar restaurant. They charge a $40 corkage fee, which many think is expensive, but that is the going rate when fine dining.

Ambiance is lovely--great decor, comfortable seating, a gorgeous bar, and live music. Fun cocktails and a solid wine list (though the "by the glass" options are a bit limited). Ultimately, though, I think the ambiance and service are doing the heaviest lifting here--it's a bit of a "vibe dining" spot. The food is definitely good, don't get me wrong...but it's not "wow," which was a little disappointing given that you're gonna be spending $$$$. (Most entrees are $30+ and they're pretty standard fare that's not especially inventive--steaks, a few pastas, obligatory short rib dish, elevated burgers, salmon.) We liked everything just fine but I didn't taste a dish that made me go "oh man, I gotta come back for that." Instead I'm thinking "maybe I should try something else next time I'm in." I do like that your entree comes with a salad. The physical menu itself could also use some work, as its quality doesn't match the care and luxury atmosphere of the place overall. Numerous misspellings and a lack of specificity on ingredients in several of the dishes that leave the diner unclear on what, exactly, they're getting. For example, there's an entree that's described simply as "grilled chicken breast served with rosemary potato wedges and grilled zucchini." Are there spices or sauces on that chicken? Are we talking just plain salt/pep? Herbs? What? Anyway, it's fine. It's a solid date night option. We'll be back.

This time, hostess seemed to have some type of problem deciding where to put us and then took us to the left into what I would call a cocktail lounge. Ok, not going to make a stink on our anniversary. We were put at a large circular table up higher off the ground. And the chairs - or stools more correctly - also of course higher. Let me add, we are both over 80. Still in reasonable good health, but if people came in who used maybe canes or who had more mobility problems, don't know where they would be put. If they fell off a stool, State Hill could have one heck of a lawsuit. The hostess tossed our menus on the table and without another word, left. The waiter came by quickly - a low talker, nice guy but could hardly hear him. We both ordered Mediterranean chicken and my wife got a salad (a very big one it was). Food came promptly, all at one time - the salad with both our dinners. So does my wife eat the salad first and let her food sit and get cold or the food first and then the salad for dessert? (We ended up taking the salad home.) The chicken was, well, chicken. Tasteless chicken at that. And broccolini, which is best described as an unsightly, tasteless (like the chicken), barely edible vegetable. Does the nicer dining room still exist? I don't know - did not think to look as we left. But doesn't matter. We won't be back. About $100 + $20 tip (other than being a low talker, the waiter was nice.) And 3% was added to our bill for using a credit card. Note to management - just raises your prices 3%. Putting it on the bill just doesn't look cool. And teach your service people that salads come first unless otherwise requested. Tell the one male waiter to speak up. And if the nicer dining room is till there, put people there if they are there for their anniversary, not in a cocktail lounge (aka sports bar). Or at least say online that the lounge is all you have.

While visiting from California, we met friends here as halfway point, not knowing what we were walking into so completely bias and giving this place a full chance. It's beautiful inside and out; so why is it so dead? The service was more than subpar. The place was really empty inside, but it took about 10-15 minutes for all of us to get our cocktails and they all came out at different times, so none of us had them together. What's more, due to food allergies and sensitivities, I requested my salad with dressing on the side, with shrimp; because I'm allergic to chicken. My salad came out smothered in dressing, with no protein. The server returned to our table and apologized for the missing protein, taking the salads back to the kitchen and returning with mine topped with chicken... 2 of our meals were completely wrong. At the end of the meal, two salads and and a couple glasses of wine were $93... I have to give them 3 stars. It was just alright at the end of the day.
