Pilsner Uruquell in Spaten beer mug (love it)- best Czech beer in my humble opinion
    George B.

My third time at this establishment, and I must say it never disappoints. This time, I had bratwurst--two delicious sausages, potato salad, mustard, and pickled cabbage (European Kimchi, aka Sauerkraut). It also comes with a side of soup, all for $26. Sounds like a good deal to me for a dinner arrangement. My server, Jana, was super nice, attentive, and efficient. The ambiance reminds you of Prague and Budapest restaurants. Overall, I give it 5 stars, and I will definitely be back. Highly recommended!

The food was really bad!!! Please don't order goulash $19 5pcs beef lol If you're packing to go, at least put the bread in a bag or paper bag!

The hostess/server was very attentive and greeted us as soon as our party of four stepped in for lunch. We were seated, menus presented, and drink orders taken. I had the Sauerbraten with Spaetzle - 2 - I'm sorry to say that neither really appealed to me. I found the beef to be bland, dry and tough even though it was served with plenty of gravy. The Spaetzle was also bland and dry. Being that there were little browns spots on some of the Spaetzle leads me to believe that it had been reheated. That would have been a great opportunity to brown some butter first to add a nutty flavor. She had the Vegetable Soup of the Day - 5 - which was thick and quite tasty. And the Jaeger Schnitzel - 4 - which I wish I had ordered as well. It was quite tasty, crispy and delicious. It came with a small amount of Mushroom Gravy under the Breaded Pork. One of our friends also ordered the Jaeger Schnitzel and the other ordered the Hungarian Goulash. They will write their own reviews. For dessert, we got two Apple Strudels - 2 - The pastry was not crispy nor flakey and the filling was mushy.

Added another picture of this monstrosity. I really liked this place in the past. The waitress says the owner likes to cook large portions. No kidding.

Still love this place! I have eaten at DJ's Bistro a handful of times and have always been impressed by their food and hospitality. After a range outing nearby on 03/05/2022, my Yelp buddy Richard K. and his wife Judy treated me to lunch here. It wasn't too busy when we arrived at around 11:30 am. The lady boss emerged from the kitchen to greet us. We were then seated at a table near the bar. Their lunch menu still offers many German classic dishes but the prices have definitely gone up since the last time I was here. Judy and I each got a Jaegar Schnitzel plate while Richard opted for their Roasted Pork Loin Special. We asked the lady boss if we could get potato salad instead of spaetzle. She said she would bring us a small plate each as an extra side. The Jaegar Schnitzel plate came with two huge pieces of breaded pork loin in mushroom sauce served with red cabbage and spaetzle. The schnitzel was delicious. The breading was had a nice crunch and meat was very juicy. The potato salad was great as well. It was not overly dressed or seasoned. It's exactly how I like it. Richard gave me a piece of the roasted pork loin and it was tasty as well. It was well seasoned and moist and the edges had a nice crispiness to it. The lady boss provided excellent service. She checked on us several times during our meal to make sure we had everything we needed. This place is a true gem! So very glad that they are still around. If you want some good German food in the Central County area, this is definitely the place to visit. 5 stars still.

I really needed it. DJ's Bistro delivered. No, not Doordash'ed. I went, and was transported to the homeland. German, mostly. I found a number of my favs, and some not at all. Oh well. Because of my great need, I ordered 3 items and planned to take home in boxes. Sue me! Service: ======= Greeted by Monika, super nice, warm, talkative, and German...it rounded out the experience. She helped guide me, and see that I reduced my costs by eliminating duplicative salad and soups. Thanks Monika! What I had: ========== * Spaten ~ a 16 oz draft for $5? Oh yeah! PS. I really enjoyed it. * Hungarian Goulash ~ 5 large chunks of gorgeous tender beef in a dark paprika sauce. Served with some of the best spaetzle I ever had, topped with bacon, fried onion, and parsley. OMG, yes! [5.0 stars] * Wiener Schnitzel ~ breaded pork loin served with potato salad. It was a double portion that would be more impressive if one massive piece (as found in Austria or Germany), but it was cooked to perfection with no gristle anywhere to be found. The next day, I warmed it in the oven and it was still delicious. [4.5 stars] * Bohemian Sauerbraten ~ 2 medium slices of marinated beef roast in a cream sauce served with more spaetzle. It was good, but to be honest, I've had better many times at many places. Frankly, it was boring. [3.0 stars] What I would improve? =================== Offer fresh desserts, a little more festive decor (like behind the bar), and have a section of sides on the menu. I would add Roladen, Kartoffelpuffer and french fries (as a side option), currywurst and other options (they do have bratwurst).

From the times I had this place referred by Yelp it turned out to be a slight disappointment food and service wise. Came here on Friday night and got a nice table in the corner. Dining hal is small and has only about 11 tables + bar and outside table. Single person servicing the whole place is definitely it enough. We had to wait and experienced "hold on a sec" looking at someone's back few times till other tables left. Recommended Hungarian Goulash was very tender, however so over salted that had to leave it at the plate. German Bratwurst with potato salad on the other hand was mild sausage, nothing to stand out from with regular potato salad (why European?). Check Pilsner on tab was on the bitter side. Overall place got marked that "Been there", however one time deal.

After having sone awesome German food in Sacramento about a month ago, I was really look g for something like it closer to home. I had DJ's Bistro bookmarked for sometime and today was the day to try. It's a cute little place in a complex of many businesses but it's not too hard to find. I was greeted by a very friendly server who seated me quickly. Since I was having bratwurst, I decided to order a Czech beer to go with it. It was a great beer, not hoppy which is how I like it. As I looked at the menu, I noticed soooo many great choices and it all seemed very authentic. I chose the bratwurst that came with housemade sauerkraut, housemade potato salad and the MOST delicious purple cabbage that tasted like Christmas. The entree came with soup or salad which is a nice change since most business have done away with this. I had a very tasty cauliflower soup that was not creamy but more brothy with lots of veggies. My entree arrived and it looked incredible. As I took a bite of each item, I was in love. The BEST part was the red cabbage. I was not sure what to expect from red cabbage but this really changed my mind. I will be back!

Delicious German and European food. I feel like it's rare to find this kind of food, and I was so happy to try this. Sfeater had a list of 17 places to eat in concord and pleasant hill. We saw it and tried it. The night we went was Mona's birthday. There were people inside singing Happy Birthday to her. It was so wonderful to see a community of people celebrate her! She was so very kind and sweet. I can see how she is so beloved! The service was really homey and great. We chose to sit outside under the tent. The food came out really quickly because they were closing the kitchen early. Everything tasted really fresh. The schnitzel was huge! There were two per order. The portions are really big! We took home leftovers and they reheated really well, so order to your hearts content! The menu is rather small, which tell us that they really make everything well. Mona recommended the sauerbraten for the sauce, and it's truly delicious!

The dude and I came to DJ's Bistro on 4/02/21 after Oakland/San Francisco Yelpers recommended we try this authentic German restaurant. The dude and I never had authentic German food so we didn't know what to expect. With COVID they had an outdoors patio and also due to the tier changes they were allowed to do indoor dining. We wanted to go as we had plans with the dudes family right after. Upon entering there was a large party as it appeared as time went on was the owner's relatives son and his friends of some sort outside enjoying their food and German Beers outside. We were greeted immediately by the female owner who was pleasant and sweet but straight to t be point. She helped us on yelp pick out the food we may like. My German is horrible so I'll just say it in English! I ended up going with the 2 fried pork chops with the gravy on the side, it came with red cabbage and Spagzale. The dude ended up getting the authentic German Bratwurst which came with two with the choice of soup or salad. Since I went with salad the dude got the soup. Our order was suppose to come with bread and butter but that didn't come :( so not sure if was only for dine in only and to go orders which that wasn't mentioned at all all. Definitely wanted the bread and butter xD Anyways, they were getting a lot of orders to go and it appears they need more customers as I heard her say to an man with a large to go order that business is going rough- some days are good and some days not so good. I will have to say the dude and I definitely enjoyed our food the fried pork was juicy and crispy and the mushroom sauce was so delicious when I dipped it in. The pork by itself was seasoned slightly but addictive. I really liked it. The Spagzale was delicious and very flavorful never had something like that. I really loved the Red Cabbage which was full of flavor which paired well with the Spagzale. The dude loved his authentic Bratwurst. I tried it and it was so juicy and flavorful. His meal came with different sides. The dude would love to come back and try the German Beers. And I would so love to dine in although they had Fox News on which the dude and I thought that was hilarious (insider between us). I would definitely encourage you to give German Cuisine a try! We would love to come back and it was our first time trying German Food. I am so happy my fellow yelpers recommended this fabulous place to the dude and I and it wasn't too far from the dudes grandparents residence too!

I came here for dinner and enjoyed my snitzel . I had double snitzel and they were huge and I even took one home. The red cabbage was acidic and I couldn't taste any other flavor. My little dumplings (spaetzle) were a little soggy but my partner's were nice and crunchy. The bread was very soft and fresh. I didn't care for the mushroom sauce in my dish, it had little flavor and was very thin. My dining partner enjoyed his ghanosh very much and said it reminded him of his mother's cooking. I also got an order of Sauerbraten to go and it looked really good. Our waitress who might be the owner's wife was really sweet and gave us amazing service. We will return when we are in the mood for German food.

Old school comfy small German cafe that makes huge portions of meat just like coming home to your German grandma would offer if I had a German grandma. Food is tasty and so are the side dishes. I love gravy and fattier meats like the roasted half duck I got and would have that again except I want to try their pig knuckle next. They ran out of strudel but hope to try that as well.

This is what they call jager gravy

The space is small but very cozy. I imagine once it's darker outside that the warm, intimate atmosphere would make it a great date spot. We got the goulash and sausages. The goulash is more stew-like than soup-like. It was tasty and straightforward, though I was expecting a bit more depth from the paprika. The sausages were 10/10. We tried the Hungarian Sweet and German Spice, and I highly recommend the latter if you're looking for one that packs a punch. The plate comes with a few gherkins, sauerkraut and mashed potatoes with gravy, which made for a well-rounded mix of flavors and textures.

No onions. No nutmeg. Germans love onions, so it should have been loaded with onions and garlic. Germans also love nutmeg in cream-based dishes, but this was devoid of herbs, spices and flavor. The mushrooms were not pre-roasted, which would have given more flavor too. It was painfully bland. Spätzle was also swimming in a similar, basic cream sauce of cream, butter, salt, and flour. The plain sauce on the noodles reinforces the plain oily mushroom sauce and it becomes heavy, oily, cloying, and overwhelmingly bland. There is enough salt in both dishes, just not enough flavor from herbs, spices, onions, and garlic. Also had the Apfel Strüdel; it was ok, edges were burnt, but acceptable with the provided vanilla sauce and whipped cream. Both the whipped cream and vanilla sauce had visible vanilla bean seeds. So they know how to flavor the sweet sauces, just not the savory. Ordered to go and the best part was the hot food containers; fully sealed and contained all the liquid while also keeping the food very hot! Not all places have considered matching their dishes and to go containers; Naschmarkt clearly has. I really wanted to love to Naschmarkt, but their food is far too bland. From what I see in the pictures, it wasn't just an off-night, that's is how they make their dishes regularly. As a German from Germany, that makes me sad because it could and should be much better.

The menu features traditional Bavarian fare, and we started with the Bier Snack Platter, an appetizer board that came with a warm pretzel, braunschweiger (venison pate), salami, obatzda (Brie, Pilsner, and cream cheese spread), spicy peanuts, and pickled egg/veggies. The soft pretzel wasn't particularly authentic and lacked a chewy texture, but I was a fan of the slightly funky, creamy venison braunschweiger. From the selection of sausages, we tried the weisswurst (a white veal and pork sausage), a duck with Vermont cheese sausage, and a smoked Montana venison sausage. My favorite was definitely the non-traditional duck with cheese, which had a nice meaty flavor and unctuousness from the cheese. Finally, we had the Jägerschnitzel, a pan-fried pork cutlet topped with a wild mushroom cream sauce, and served with sides of sauerkraut, rotkohl (sweet braised red cabbage), and spätzle (egg noodles). My favorite side was the spätzle, which had been lightly pan-fried and had a nice caramelized, crispy texture. Overall, the food here was all decent, though most of the items weren't particularly fresh tasting or authentic. The duck sausage was a highlight, but I wouldn't go out of my way for the food here.

I ordered food to go, including the meat and pickled vegetable selection, pretzels, and cheese sauce. When I got home, I realized the cheese sauce was missing. I tried calling the restaurant multiple times, but no one answered the phone, so I had to drive all the way back to retrieve an item that should have been included in the first place. That ate up about 40 minutes of my evening. When I returned, I received a small apology, but no meaningful attempt to make things right -- no comp, no offer of a dessert, no gesture of goodwill. For a first-time customer who had to make a second trip because of the restaurant's error, that felt pretty disappointing. The pretzel situation was also confusing and left a bad taste. The menu lists "add a pretzel" for $3 under the meat and pickled vegetable selection. When I ordered, the server told me the pretzel came with the meal. Based on that, I reasonably assumed that if I ordered an additional pretzel, the extra charge would be $3. Instead, I was charged both $3 and another $6.50 for the extra pretzel. When I asked about it later, I was told the pricing was structured that way for gluten-free customers, but that was not explained when I ordered. The menu and verbal explanation did not match the final charge, and it felt misleading. To make matters worse, the house-made pretzel itself was disappointing. There wasn't even any salt on it. At a German restaurant, a pretzel should be one of the easiest things to get right: salty, chewy, browned, and satisfying. This was not that. Between the missing cheese sauce, the unanswered phone, the extra drive, the confusing charges, the lack of a meaningful service recovery, and the underwhelming pretzel, this was not a good first impression. I left feeling taken advantage of rather than welcomed as a new customer. I understand mistakes happen. What matters is how a restaurant handles them. In this case, Brotzeit had a clear opportunity to turn an annoying mistake into a decent customer service moment, and they didn't. I'm actually pretty upset writing this review. I forked over a lot of money, I'm and I dont have a huge going out budget, I work caregiving and I sometimes want to give myself a treat, and this whole interaction really set my evening off poorly. I ate later than I intended which cuts into my sleep, which in turn does NOT set me up for having the energy and mental strength to do my job, and I actually feel MISLED by the menu and explanation by the waitstaff and the apology and nothing else, no acknowledgment for the time wasted, and not even a "what can I do, let's make it right." Total. Disappointment. Yeah I am NOT A HAPPY CUSTOMER!! I shall NOT be giving ONE THIN DIME MORE OF MY HARD EARNED MONEY to this business!! They haven't returned my voicemail regarding my bad experience. They obviously don't care. And the cheese spread I did get smelled spoiled the day after. Didnt want to eat it.
