Carrot soup, Wienerschnitzel Bratkaroffeln & Gruner Salat, and sausage platter
    Michael A.

I've been coming here for years, but I recently celebrated my birthday here with family and friends. For many, it was their first time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]What I love about this place is that it's small and cozy inside, with stretches of ongoing conversations.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I've never been to Germany, but the owner mentioned that the vibes inside the restaurant remind him of some of the restaurants back in his hometown.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you're coming here with a group of friends I recommend a bierstiefel (das boot) to share. Food-wise, this is my favorite by far in SF when it comes to German. You can walk-in, and staff is super friendly and good at providing recs!

    Beer on tap!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Amazing ambiance like a cute Bavarian resturant, and a really fabulous tap list of German beer![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was good and the vibw was very fun. I loved the pretzel and the potato cucumber salad. The obatzda was very Camembert forward. I got the potato pancakes, which were a little disappointing. They were so thick that the edges were too crispy to cut through, and the solid was very gooey. All in all a fun dining experience and I would love to come back for the beer, salad, and atmosphere :)

Great spot for German cuisine (which is very difficult to find, even in a city!). The schnitzel was pretty good (not a standout compared to what's available in Germany but still good) and the semmelknodel was delicious. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant felt like it could be located in Germany, which made the experience very fun and unique.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Fun vibes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'm not a huge German food fan but I did have a nice meal there on Friday night at their 33rd year Anniversary party

Amazing German beer in the Bay Area! The service here is very quick. The tables are communal so be prepared to share the table with a stranger if you have open seats. The restaurant is very busy and fast paced. The staff is busy waiting on all the tables. The menu has something for everyone to choose from. The pretzel and sausage platter was ok to me. Nothing too crazy special. I came for the beer, not really the food. The beer selection was amazing. That is what i was excited for here. I got the St Bernardus Tripel and the Hofbrau Helles which all hit the spot and brought me back to my Belgium/Germany travels!

I come here for the chicken schnitzel, but stay for the vast draft beer selection. Although the servers are often busy, they'll certainly help you navigate the menu and suggest a few beers. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vibe here feels like a kneipe but with a causal fine-dinning edge.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Shoutout Kat, Victoria, Mark, and Christiana for being the best!

My favourite German restaurant in San Francisco. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Super cozy vibes and a fantastic selection of beers that come in unique cups![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Literally everything on the menu is delicious so you really can't go wrong. I can't wait to go back!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This spot is a true Bavarian treasure.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were out walking all afternoon and he was craving brats. Suppenkuche absolutely delivered. [[HIGHLIGHT]]For our first visit, we enjoyed everything--from the cozy, stylish space to the incredibly friendly service with thoughtful recommendations.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was relieved to find solid vegetarian options, and the pea soup and Brussels sprouts were both delicious. Many items do have meat, but expected. The drink list is impressive, and the homemade hot mulled wine was a standout. We'll definitely be back--and happily send friends their way. Filling, but comforting is my take away.

Went here tonight for the first time! It was a busy evening of business. We sat outside of the restaurant at the little nice outdoor seating table. The lighting was really dim and bright it was very romantic. We ordered the messy fries and the cheese button pasta and the 2 bratwurst plate!! It was so delicious OHMYGOODNESS. Our server was so kind and attentive. And thoughtful. I'd love to come back and visit again!

    Heated dog friendly outdoor patio

One of my favorite go-to for potato pancakes!! Crispy on the outside and finely shredded on the inside - comes with sour cream and a big bowl of cinnamon forward, apple sauce! They also have Black Forest cake!!!! Two of my favorite food items in the world, what can be better?!? ... a dog friendly, heated outdoor patio! Makes a happy trifecta for me :) Service was functional and friendly. I noticed default tipping is 22% here, as a heads up, when handed the Toast payment terminal. I liked the Turntable tunes for outdoor ambiance!

The only German place I've tried in SF, and I'm pretty happy this is located in the heart of the city in lively Hayes Valley. I've been to Suppenküche a few times and always get the same thing -- Jägerschnitzel (which is a pork loin with nice and flavorful mushroom gravy and spatzle on the side) and potato pancakes! I've had better jägerschnitzel on the East Coast, but I like the balance of flavors here (and it's not too salty!). The potato pancakes are very scrumptious esp with the apple sauce and I've often contemplated ordering several more... It can get pretty loud and crowded in here (a lot of groups) and service is on the slower side - but definitely worth a try if you're looking for German food in the Bay.

Spaetzle is completely bland and flavorless, the rest of the food was good but wouldn't order this or probably patronize again.

DO NOT GO HERE! The sales woman, Nicole R., who is usually…read moreserving customers at this location is so rude and disrespectful in person and over the phone. It all started when I came in this location to buy a pretzel because I was shopping next door at Macy's. She told me to download the Wetzel app and after the first purchase, I will be able to redeem my coupon for a free pretzel. I did download the Wetzel app & she gave me the coupon. Today, I went to redeem my coupon for the free pretzel. She first said I had to redeem it within a week and I told her that it doesn't state that on the coupon (no expiration date). Then she said the free pretzel coupon is loaded in the app which it wasn't. Next she didn't want to give me one at all. I asked for her to call her manager. She did and her manager told her to give me a pretzel. I asked for the jalapeño one and I paid for the cheese dipping. When I got in my car & checked the pretzel, it was a plain one. So I had to drive around to go back inside to ask her why she gave me a plain one if I asked her for the jalapeño one. She responded that's the free one with an attitude. I asked her why didn't she tell me that when I asked her for the jalapeño one. No response from her. By then I was pretty upset to be treated rudely, wasting time driving back, and false advertisement (see attached picture) to persuade customers to download & buy the first purchase. I called her store to ask for the manager. She hanged up on me when I asked for her name and to speak to her manager again. When I called this # (415) 658-7227 multiple times, she didn't pick up. I luckily got a printed receipt and noticed that her name was on it. Nicole R. After all that trouble, to top it off, the original pretzel I received was burnt and tasted stale. I'm writing this review because it's more than just getting a free pretzel, it's about being treated with respect and kindness. I can choose which stores to spend my money and this store will lose a customer. Also, I don't like how I was lied to about downloading the Wetzel app and the unpleasant and stressful ordeal I experienced. The coupon for the free pretzel is very misleading. It should state the expiration date and what kind of pretzel so people are aware of the conditions. I highly DO NOT recommend this Wetzel Pretzel store location on 170 O'Farrell Street, San Francisco next to Macy's.
