Sticky Toffee Pudding
Elizabeth L.

My sister's boyfriend raves about this place all the time, so we finally rallied the family to make a trek out here to see what the hubbah was all about! Parking in the area around Hayes Valley can be competitive but not impossible. It's a block away from City Hall and located on the first floor of a hotel. Our server was very nice and walked us through the menu. My sister was interested in the lamb dish that they served the last time she was there - apparently that was a one time thing. Their main menu otherwise is pretty straight forward with 3-5 entrees. I tried the Sunday Roast (with Pork Belly), and got to try the Fish and Chips from my brother's plate. Everything was cooked to perfection - the fish and chips were crisp without being too heavy (on par with Hook in the outer sunset!) and their chips were nicely fried. The Sunday roast was also roasted very well, with the vegetables being very tender and the meat being juicy AND crispy. We also shared a sticky toffee pudding - the sister's boyfriend saying it's better than the one he tried in at Gordon Ramsey's in London! I was worried that I'd be too full to enjoy it, but on the contrary. The toffee pudding base is made with dates and although it is sweet (duh, toffee), it's not sickeningly-so.

Staff were really friendly. The restaurant was really cute and tucked inside a hotel. The food was also really good! The passion fruit martini also was delicious! Will definitely come back :)

Tucked behind velvet curtains in Civic Center, Dingles Public House feels like stepping into a polished London pub--moody lighting, deep green walls, and just enough theatrical charm to make a pint feel essential. It's a rare thing in San Francisco: a place fully committed to British comfort food, executed with care rather than gimmick. But the real reason to come? Two classics done right: fish & chips and the scotch egg. Fish & Chips This is the kind of plate that reminds you why the dish became iconic in the first place. The cod is flaky and moist, wrapped in a beer batter that strikes the right balance--crisp without feeling heavy or greasy. The chips lean properly British: thick-cut, soft-centered, and built for soaking up malt vinegar. What elevates it is the full spread--tartare, curry sauce, and mushy peas--giving you multiple ways to work through each bite. It may not reinvent the dish, but it doesn't need to--it's comforting, well-executed, and exactly what you want from a proper pub plate. I'm still dreaming of this dish and cannot wait to come back for more. Scotch Egg If there's a must-order here, it's this. The scotch egg arrives with a crisp, golden exterior giving way to a perfectly soft, just-set yolk--rich, savory, and deeply satisfying. The house-made sausage wrap adds a layer of spiced depth, while a touch of acidity (often from pickles or sauce) cuts through the richness beautifully. It's the kind of dish you instinctively order "for the table"... and then quietly wish you didn't have to share.

Moody restaurant right by Civic Center located inside of a hotel. Lighting and ambiance are perfect for a night out with a lover or a mellow night out with friends. Sticky toffee pudding: 9/10, warm and gooey with vanilla ice cream to temper the sweetness Chicken Kyiv: 9/10, served piping hot and bursting with flavor although was a bit small for the price! Meat Pie: 8/10, best part was the mashed potato tbh. Very standard meat pie

The wait for reservation is worth it. Now we only waited about two weeks after they dropped the new reservations. We had a late reservation which I prefer. Upon entering the restaurant the staff immediately greets you warm and welcoming. They set us down near the back right of the restaurant. The inside is very dim and moody. I love it. The dark colors and low lights give such a good vibe. Our server was very kind, super chill and really nice. We had a couple drinks and a few dishes. The food is delicious. A bit pricey but really good. Overall I would recommend waiting for a reservation. The food is great, the staff are really cool and the vibe is really nice inside.

First off, the food was amazing. I think these are the best fish and chips I've had and I've had a lot. The curry sauce, tartar sauces and smashed peas were great. The meat pie was tender flaky and packed with flavor. The burger was perfectly cooked and delicious- it sort of looked small but was filling. I loved the sausage roll and scotch egg - both elevated and authentic strangely enough. Strangely the dish I was most impressed with was the cabbage. It was wet savory uncutous and rich. The mustard sauce was complex without being overpowering- the natural sweetness of the cabbage really showed through. The service was mostly ok - big delay between our apps and entrees. Attentive and good otherwise. Would take off half star for that but the food was good enough to where I'm still rounding to a 5 Dingles is kind of hard to classify, the food said casual pub, but the prices and quality was definitely elevated. It is an excellent date spot, not too loud but not so quiet everyone can listen in to you. I'd definitely go back!

Sunday menu (featuring the Sunday Roast)

Made a reservation online a couple weeks out for a Sunday night dinner! The restaurant has a charming old school vibe with British pub charm. It has a dark and cozy atmosphere. They have a special menu on Sundays with most of the mains being a classic British Sunday roast dinner. Outside of that, they also serve fish & chips as an entree but they won't have their normal entrees like the burger, chicken kiev, or meat pie. We ordered a scotch egg to start. It came out pipping hot and freshly fried. The egg was perfectly soft boiled. Tasted just like the ones I've had in London! For the mains, we got the roast beef Sunday roast dinner and the fish & chips. They were both delicious. The roast beef was tender and came with some tasty vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. The gravy it came with was savory and brought everything together. The fish & chips were amazing! The fish was fresh and the batter was light and crisp. The chips/french fries were some of the best I've had. It also went great with the tartar sauce and curry sauce. For dessert, we had to get the sticky toffee pudding! It did not disappoint, it was served warm and was topped with ice cream. Great way to end the meal. The servers were very attentive and nice. It did take a while for the first dish to come out but the food was worth the wait. Overall it was a fun restaurant to try and I would come back!

Dingles was such a pleasant surprise. One of those places I would absolutely go out of my way for. The space is beautiful. Dimly lit, cozy, and really chic. It is tucked inside the hotel by the opera and feels perfect for a date night or a long dinner with friends before a show. We ordered a pretty insane spread and every single thing was good. The scotch eggs had that perfect jammy center and really flavorful sausage. The Welsh rarebit was rich and comforting with deep cheddar flavor. But the sausage roll completely stole the show. The pastry was insanely flaky and the filling was juicy and savory. One of those bites where everyone at the table pauses for a second. The mains were just as strong. The beef and Guinness pie was surprisingly delicious, especially with the bone marrow which added this amazing fatty richness and depth. The burger was exactly what you want from a great burger. Juicy, simple, and perfectly done. The fish and chips were excellent too, super crispy batter with malt vinegar on the side which made it even better. And the chicken Kyiv was fantastic. Really tender with garlic parsley butter running through it. We finished with both desserts and they were worth it. The sticky toffee pudding with brown butter ice cream was warm, rich, and exactly what you hope for. Also worth knowing they do a proper Sunday roast which I now very much want to come back for. I've also heard Wednesdays are their pie night, which honestly sounds like the perfect excuse to return. Definitely add this to your list.

Cute spot with great service! Inside of a boutique hotel if you didn't know - go straight to the back, past the small lobby. Wanted to find a place with Sunday roast and it was good! As close to London as it gets probs. Beef was decent. Not super wowed but I LOVED the breakfast martini & sticky toffee pudding. Those two were the stars of the show TBH!!

Explore and enjoying a little time with hubby after work on a Friday. Dingles Public House Bartender and Server: Katie, made great drinks and recommended great snack. Kettle One, Splash of Cran with Soda Scotch Egg, Pork Sausage, English Mustard Mayo WOW, not sure how they made the outside so crispy and a perfect golden yolk inside. You must all drop in and try...

Sausage roll

This was such a cute spot for date night!! The must-get dishes for me were the sausage roll and the fish and chips. The sausage roll was perfectly seasoned and had a nice flaky pastry exterior. The fish and chips were nice and crisp, and came out piping hot. Even the fish by itself was perfectly cooked. I do wish they warmed up their plates more though! Don't forget to save room for dessert for the sticky toffee pudding. A little too sweet for me but still hit the spot. Service was very attentive! They refilled our water often. I'll be back (not on Sunday roast day) to try more items.

Beef & Guinness Pie, Dingles Burger
Kristina W.

If you are really craving elevated British pub food, this is the best in that category in SF. Order the Beef & Guinness pie with bone marrow and a side of Proper Chips. Skip the Dingles Burger (average, despite it being recommended by our server) and Roasted Cabbage (very salty). However, if you are just curious to try this new restaurant based on hype, I would not prioritize it, as there are many better choices in terms of overall food taste and dining experience. Tip: Make a reservation! Do NOT try to walk in at opening for a bar seat, as it's unpredictable and/or an unpleasant experience. (1st attempt - came at 4:50pm, did not make the 1st seating, because 3 of 8 bar seats were reserved for staff's friends. 2nd attempt - came at 4:40pm, 2 people shamelessly cut ahead of everyone waiting in line and sat down right away, and the staff made no effort to intervene/resolve until 3+ mins later, when they offered THEM a table instead)

Freshly Baked Bread w/ Malt Butter
Aaron K.

Dingle's Public House is a fantastic homage to classic British pub fare, but clearly elevated in both ambience and flavor (I normally find pub food a bit lacking, but definitely not the case here!). The space feels much more upscale than your typical pub while still being cozy, and the service is absolutely top notch, as our server, Colin, was very friendly and clearly knowledgeable about the menu and happy to provide recommendations. Start with the fresh-baked bread with malt butter, which is so good and sets the tone for the rest of the meal. The Welsh rarebit is a must-order, think of it as an elevated open-face grilled cheese with a thick, heavily seasoned cheese sauce poured over toasted bread and broiled until bubbling and browned, while the beef and Guinness pie delivers all the classic flavors you'd expect inside a perfectly flaky, buttery crust. The chips are perfectly crispy and go great with the aioli, but the star of the show is the Scotch egg, with the egg being perfectly cooked and the outer casing super juicy and absolutely packed with flavor in every bite. Be sure to save room for dessert and finish with the sticky toffee pudding for a perfect end to the meal. I've also heard great things about their Sunday roast, so I'll definitely be back to try that next!

Went were seated by the window, which had a nice view, but a little cold. We ordered promptly and as we finished ordering, a wedding party of about a dozen people arrived. Our pretzel arrived quickly, followed by my Jaegerschnitzel. Then they completely forgot my wife's Fisch and Chips and just started taking care of the wedding party. Thank goodness we had the pretzel, because my wife's lunch wasn't served until I had finished my lunch and we had to inquire about her order twice. They did comp her lunch, but then she hardly ate any because it was time for us to go. BTW, my schnitzel was thin and cardboard like. The only tasty bit was the mushroom gravy. A totally uninspiring visit and we most likely will not be back.

The Marina/cow hollow area in SF, gives off small college town vibes!…read more The streets are lined with a variety of different restaurants, shops, and so many places to explore. Causwells is one of the restaurants definitely worth exploring. First off, everyone on staff is so incredibly kind, generous, and welcoming, you'll never want to leave. There is a small bar area immediately to your left when you walk into this intimate feeling Restaurant. The bartender makes you feel like you're walking into chairs. Yes he's busy, but he acknowledges customers walking in. Very cool! We were immediately seated, and while the tables are on the smaller side and fairly close to one another, it's still created a very cozy experience. They have a nice menu that with a variety of items. The people seated next to us were enjoying the salmon and it looked absolutely delicious. We went for the burgers, because it's one of their must try items on the menu. It's a Smashburger with gooey cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and this delicious deliciously soft tasty bun. Diners tip: the burger comes with onions, and we both asked for them to be grilled. This is definitely the way to go. The burger is very generous in size, snd delicious. Perfectly seasoned, well-made, and it is that taste sensation that we all crave when eating a burger. The fries were tasty and lightly seasoned, and if you can get through the entire burger and the fries, you get a gold star. I did my usual two bites and I was done and yes, I took the rest home with me. This is a great restaurant and definitely should be on your list of places to try!

Have a small happy hour 3-5pm. Pros: - Food is decent. Burger was a strong 4/5 (though i asked for my onions grilled, and they were sadly raw and difficult to pull off). Salad with sunchokes and citrus was a nice bit of roughage, nice bitterness in the lettuces. - Banana bread 'grilled cheese' is an epiphany. Must try. - Cocktails were fun & IGworthy. - Vibes & location feel so perfect on a sunny afternoon. Cons: - 1 bathroom stall, can only imagine how rough this gets when during a busy dinner service. - Service was friendly, but often multiple asks for the same item, and long waits between check ins. Overall, a decent spot in an area flush with choice. Probably more of a 3.5 than a 4, but well round up here!

Really cute spot, fairly small - even with a reservation we still had to wait for around 15 minutes…read morefor a table on a Tuesday evening (though the host was very apologetic and offered us free wine for while we waited). I like the interior art, but the inside is a little cramped and loud. We went for the $60 deal - one appetizer, pizza, pasta, and dessert - which was very much worth it: I was expecting small portions due to the cost but split between two people we both went home feeling very full and with enough leftovers for a solid one person meal. Starting off with the prosciutto and burrata plate, which was much larger than expected (though there's not a lot of burrata in proportion to everything else in the bowl). The candied pear in it was especially good. The pizza (Tyson punch out) was decent but nothing special. The vodka pasta was a standout, really creamy and flavorful and the pasta itself had a very nice al dente texture. For dessert we got the tiramisu which comes in a plastic takeout container - was also good, there seemed to be more cream/filling than cake but I enjoyed it. Would definitely come here again to try more of the menu especially because of how good the deal is, but wouldn't come without a reservation.
