The food itself was decent -- probably around a 8.5/10 and the ambience was genuinely enjoyable, which made the disappointing service stand out even more. Our order was brought out incorrectly, and when we politely pointed it out, the staff simply took the plate away without any acknowledgment, apology, or attempt to address the mistake. The interaction felt cold and dismissive. Our server also seemed completely uninterested throughout the entire meal. Asking for recommendations felt like an inconvenience to him rather than part of the dining experience. There was very little engagement, warmth, or attentiveness, which created an uncomfortable atmosphere despite the restaurant's otherwise nice setting. It's unfortunate because the food and ambience had potential to make this a great experience, but the lack of basic hospitality and professionalism from the service staff left a far more lasting impression. read more

Light and airy Italian restaurant in the Fillmore district of San Francisco with indoor and outdoor seating. What I love most about this place is the floor to ceiling glass windows/entrance that allows a lot of natural light in. We stopped in after doing some shopping as other places nearby had a wait. Pro: No reservation needed for lunch as there were plenty of seats available. Service was extremely bland with us and not attentive at all. It felt personal (as we were the only people of color in there) our waiter walked past us multiple times without checking in on us. Unsure if we were overthinking it, we watched her interaction with other tables next to us where she was more charismatic and joyful with other guests but when it came to us she made zero eye contact, couldn't suggest anything on the menu and slid our check on our table before we could tell her we'd like another cocktail. Very odd honestly and probably won't be back because of how unwelcomed we felt. Now food. We looked up photos of the lunch menu items and they didn't look extremely appealing so we went with some safe bets: bolognese and tortellini all panna (also since our waiter could not recommend a single thing when we asked). Bolognese was not bad! The beef and pork ragu had a good consistency but could have used a dash of salt. The tortellini was also decent although the chicken was a little on the dry side. We wanted to like TS more but we've had better Italian food in SF. Ordered the focaccia, prosciutto and Caesar to start. All solid, the star was these puffy fried dough balls with the meat plate. Pasta was hit or miss. Veal agnolotti amazing, bolognese was too heavy on the sage and duck risotto lacked overall flavor and depth. Tiramisu was also solid. Service was delayed. Our main waiter was distracted the whole time and we found it bizzare that they took our wine/cocktail glasses but didn't ask us if we wanted another. Busers were efficient and aplenty. My friends and I made a reservation for Easter Sunday brunch on OpenTable. Super easy to do so. We made it for 11 am and the place filled up pretty much at opening. The interior was very eye catching. We all loved the color palette and the aesthetics. INSALATA DI PERE (4/5): We ordered a salad for the table. This had chicories, pear, pecans, pomegranate, and gorgonzola. We loved the pecans. OMELETTE (4/5): The omelette had fennel sausage, kale, fontina with a side of breakfast potatoes, toast, and fall greens. The kale was nicely cooked inside. Loved the toast. The atmosphere at The Tailor's Son is lively. It's a nice place for drinks and food after work. With light from windows facing Fillmore in the old Elite Cafe space, it's a handsome setting with high ceilings, a full length bar, and a combo of cafe tables and long communal tables. We started with a classic Negroni (they have a creative Negroni menu) and a Golden Thread, a mix of blanco tequila, saffron, fennel, honey, lemon, and rose foam. The wagyu crostini arrived, and the meal stumbled when a random black hair appeared on the plate. To the server's credit, when we pointed it out, the response was quick. The dish was whisked away, replaced and comped. It was followed by a chicory salad with pear, pecans, and gorgonzola, a rich trumpet mushroom pasta and an unexpected gift: lobster pasta with lobster tail in a lobster pomodoro. It was a peace offering, in light of the earlier snafu. The quick recovery, replacing the offending dish and taking it off the bill, and then offering one of their best pastas as a gift (this is how to fix things & reboot trust!) reset the experience for us, smoothing over a dining misstep, and making for a memorable meal. read more

One of the cutest restaurants in SF. I love the ambience and decor. The bar is beautiful, and they have a super charming wall of Italian digestifs/liquor boxes displaying their vibrant collection. seats/tables in themselves are an experience just to dine in. love it. food was very tasty. my partner and I got the Caesar salad, carbonara, and papadelle with ragu for Sunday lunch. Finally tried The Tailor's Son on Fillmore in Pac Heights and really enjoyed it. The bolognese was the standout, so good I forgot to take a photo before digging in. The zero-proof mocktails were also a highlight; I had a spicy, margarita-style drink that I'd absolutely order again. The seasonal salad was refreshing, though I didn't notice the pear slices listed on the menu. The focaccia and tapenade were solid, and we left very full by the end of dinner. Service was quick and friendly and we were able to walk in and get an indoor table on a packed Friday night thanks to their efficient table turnover. Dropped into The Tailor's Son last week for a quick 3 pm snack! Was so happy with their happy hour menu - we were able to split an appetizer, pasta and desert perfectly. Although I will say I was dying to take more of my share of the tiramisu (it was that good). The vibes are great here - definitely appealing to families, a quick meal with friends or even just by yourself! Wednesday had a 5:30 reservation, finished my dental appointment early and arrived at Tailor's Son 4:45, dinner service starts at 5:00, hostess very accommodating, seated and presented us with dinner menu and Happy Hour menu. My fabulous companion, Lauren and I started with the Burrata crostini, followed by Little Gem Romana and we both opted for two order of Al Gamberi Risotto. The whole dinner was exceptional especially the Risotto, came with two shrimp on top and we realized there eas more shrimp mixed with the rice. Service provided by Stella K was exceptional pointing out the dessert, a scoop of Fior de Latte and black cherry sorbetto, so delicious! Will be soon! read more

Second time there, this time for lunch. The menu on the website is not entirely accurate. Three of us shared duck paparalle, risotto di pesce, spigola alla Ligure. When I go out, I want something that I cannot easily fix myself. With these three dishes, I wished I was a dog so I could lick the plate clean. Scrumptious. Service was attentive. By San Francisco standards, very reasonably priced for the quality. Dinner will have more of a selection but it is more crowded. For dessert we had tiramasu, always good and the incredibly rich Budino. The one paying the bill wanted the Budino. I am NOT a fan of hazelnuts and was worried but these were just right. However the Budino is so rich that I would advise sharing. Even a third of it was too rich and this is someone who LOVES chocolate. The vibe here is beautiful - such a great spot for a date night or a fun dinner with girlfriends. The appetizers were super tasty and definitely the highlight of the meal. Sadly, the clam linguine was a letdown - there wasn't much seafood in it, and I even bit down on a small rock, which was pretty concerning. We were sitting near the entrance at the bar and asked if they could close one of the doors since it was getting really chilly, but it never happened, so it was a bit uncomfortable. Came for brunch on a Sunday! I didn't have a reservation but we were seated right away. They have indoor and outdoor seating. We chose inside because I liked the interior. High ceilings, lots of natural light, and cute decor. I got the polenta with pork ragu and it was delicious. The polenta was thick and creamy and paired well with the flavorful and meaty ragu. I was having a pretty down day for a number of reasons mostly the world so I looked around for a place I might go have a drink and a bite to eat cheer myself up. I really wanted to go someplace different from where I usually go. I have to be very careful with Covid so I still mask everywhere and don't eat indoors . The tailor's son looked perfect - outdoor dining, pasta and nice wine. When I arrived there was no host, no sign indicating where to stand and no one paying attention to guests trying to come in. There were several outdoor tables being cleaned so I stood at the door and waited. I waited a good five or six minutes and no one came along. A couple of them came and waited at the other door where there's still was no one there to pay attention. I saw they were starting a line so I walked over and took my place in front. A server who looked like he just woken up came over and addressed a couple asking them where they wanted to sit. I told them I've been waiting at the other door for several minutes and they ignored me. So I said very loudly "I was here first I was at the other door for several minutes."" They continued to ignore me. I spoke with the manager who I believe is named Regan who offered some lame apologies and said they always have someone at the door. however the person transferred me to Regan said for some reason they had no one at the door for at least a few minutes. I'm really disgusted and now I'm just hungry. I think I'll go to one of the places that welcomes Business single people. read more

I came here for a snack since the restaurant next door, BUBU, had a long wait time. I saw they had a happy hour from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Bar seating is only available. Ambiance: The atmosphere of the place felt intimate and refreshing. The sunlight was dropping onto the tables and the vibes were great. Service: They were friendly and attentive Note: When the waitress asked if I wanted still or sparkling water, they did NOT specify that the sparkling water was not free. We were charged $6 for the bottle. Such a bad practice to offer without specifying the price. Burrata crostini $12 (5/5): Wow, this is one of the best toasts I've ever had. The bread was toasted with olive oil, which was so flavorful. The burrata was nice and creamy topped off with sea salt. Would eat this again. Something so simple can taste so rich. Hemline spritz $14 (3.5/5): Contained green grapes, bianco vermouth, manzanilla sherry, prosecco. It was an okay spritz, it was refreshing drink. The best thing we ordered had to be the Burrata Con Funghi. The mushrooms were pickled, which added a nice sourness to the burrata. I would come back for that alone. I could do without the Insalata Di Pere. I wish they noted on the menu that it contains blue cheese because it was very strong and hard to eat. Unfortunately, the worst thing on the menu was the pastas for us. Both were undercooked. I understand the idea of aldente pasta, but the pasta was definitely undercooked. We sent back the risotto because the inside of the rice was still grainy, and when it came back, some of the rice was still undercooked. The Agnolotti was pretty plain in my opinion. We were never looking to take another bite. The service was spectacular. I arrived almost an hour early to my reservation, and they seated me outside, while I waited for my table to be cleared. Great drinks to ease into the evening without feeling overwhelmed. We also sampled a few appetizers from the happy hour menu. The gnocco fritto stood out with a light, airy texture and just the right chew. The calamari had a nice crisp and wasn't greasy at all, which I always appreciate. I went to The Tailor's Son for a birthday gathering with my friends. It was a fantastic place for a large group. Their menu is fun with a mixture of unique pastas from Northern Italy. Everyone in my group was pleased by their meal. The cocktails were also unique and delicious. The show stopper was the cannolis, which were so decadent. I still dream of them. The service was pretty good, our waitress was a bit too attentive though nice; coming around every five minutes to see if we needed drinks. Having a quick get together with friends here on a Thursday afternoon and getting mix emotions.... The vibe there was kinda weird to me looked like a diner instead of what I expected. Drinks were really good. We had a dog with us so they were able to accommodate us quickly without a reservation during prime dinner time on a Friday night in an outdoor table. The food was really good! We also tried their focaccia as an appetizer. My favor was actually the pasta which had duck. Recommend getting this and the steak! They didn't ask how we wanted it cooked but it came out perfectly with a tasty chimichurri sauce on top and some layered potatoes. Favorite anti pastis have been the burrata and the duck liver pâté. SO good. I think they were better than the pastas. Insalata invernale super refreshing, love the crunchy candied pecans, fresh greens, and shaved fennel. The first time here I had a vegetarian mushroom risotto neither my friend nor I liked it much. This time we had the risotto Milanese with the added oxtail. Traditionally, the whole oxtail would have been made into the risotto, but here it was just the meat. Great flavors, but would've been nice to preserve the oxtail presentation. The Tallegio ravioli with mushrooms and brown sugar sage was decent, I love a buttery Sage combo Orecchiette was overcooked and SUPER salty and briney. The dining room has that classic "date-night without trying too hard" vibe. Candles, dark wood, and a bar that looks like it knows a thousand stories. The staff treats questions about the menu like a pleasure, not a burden, and the pacing is slow in the best way--like the meal is allowed to breathe. The dessert was very good, and the coffee was the worst that I ever had. I asked him to remove the coffee from the check, which he did, and then he disappeared. The replacement bartender seemed busy setting up for his shift, and I had to ask for a to go box and my check. In all, my service was bad and my tip reflected it. I was looking forward to their restaurant week dinner menu but was left disappointed. It's advertised as a 4 course menu but the first course is just their foccacia bread. Many other restaurants provide free bread and don't call it a course. The second course is their pere salad. This didn't feel too impressive and included lettuce, some pears, and pomegranate seeds. This felt simple and something that is easily thrown together. For the third course, I chose their steak. Their steak is decent and tender, however, I realized they didn't ask how we prefer the doneness when taking our order. We weren't picky but this felt like something they should ask. However, the cheesy potato that it came with was insanely salty. At first, I thought I got a oversalted piece but it was pretty much the whole thing. Im not sure how people can enjoy this level of salt with potatoes. I had to drink lots of water to compensate. The best part of the meal was probably the last course, the dessert. We got one of each to share which was chocolate pudding and tiramisu. The chocolate pudding was very rich and tasted more like a thick mousse. Be careful if you don't like overly sweet desserts with this one; we weren't able to finish it. The tiramisu was pretty nice though. Light and tasted like what you would expect for tiramisu. Overall, I'm not sure I would return given the high price point for mediocre food. read more
