Located on the corner between two alleyways, one being Clarion, a street art adorned path that famously depicts slices of SF's colorful history, this is the Willows (12th at Folsom) sister location in terms of the ownership. the front door leads to a somewhat tightly packed space just wide enough for small groups and is low lit with local art hung on the walls. there's an impressive selection of beers, local and from afar and the bartenders are attentive even whilst preoccupied preparing or pouring drinks for others. a narrow corridor leads you to a spacious patio with plenty of benches, corner spots and music being piped out from the interior. haven't tried the food in a while but I remember it not being offensive in the slightest and just good enough to induce continuous inebriation. even some of the djs spin decent tunes. wink wink.

    Sycamore Chicken and Waffles

Came here for a friend's birthday. In the back of the bar, they have a semi-open patio dining area with picnic style tables. We got the Sycamore Chicken and Waffles. I love that it's not an ordinary waffle but a Belgian-Style Waffle stuffed with prosciutto and manchego cheese, pretty unique! There were really big pieces of prosciutto and it wasn't super cheesy, but the flavors still came through. The fried chicken was decent, tasty and drizzled with Makers Mark Maple Syrup. Love that you can get either a half or full portion of this! (Half order is basically a two quarters of a whole Belgian waffle. We also got a Carnitas Benedict, but honestly, there wasn't anything too special about this one. The sopes were on the harder side, so it was hard to cut. It was topped with a decent amount of carnitas, poached egg, roasted jalapeno, hollandaise, pico de gallo, and cotija cheese. Of course we had to try their famous Pork Belly "donuts." The group ordered a few orders of these so everyone could try one. Pieces of pork belly are battered and fried. On the outside is a bourbon maple syrup glaze and some sea salt. They were interesting, but not sure if I'd pay 3 something a pop for them. I'd say, try them at least once!

Such a fun brunch spot!! Had so much fun playing board games and drinking lots of mimosas!

My favorite thing about the Sycamore the beef slider and my second favorite is the people - from the bartenders to the kitchen guys they're a friendly bunch. I play trivia here regularly and this weekend I visited for brunch with my trivia teammate. We got the half chicken waffles. The waffle comes with a bourbon syrup on it and almost tastes like French toast. The Croque Madame sandwich is a twist on the classic ham cheese and egg croissant with handmade potato chips and a bowl of fruit. The fact that they're handmade makes them taste extra delicious. We also got beef and chicken sliders - The beef slider comes with carmelized onions and blue cheese and is like a little bite of heaven. There is a backyard area and outdoor seating as well. Overall - Ambiance 5/5 Food 4/5 Service 5/5 Drinks - $ I didn't have any today but they usually have a good sour on tap. Beers are reasonably priced. Bottomless mimosas are $28 an could be a vibe

cute and cozy restaurant/bar! the vibe of this place is very homey, with communal picnic tables in the back patio and more tables inside along the wall. the service was really great and food arrived quickly. they have you order at the bar and then they bring the food to you! prices are reasonable. i had the chicken and waffles half portion, which was a good snack size (definitely order the full size if youre hungry). the waffle has prosciutto and cheese inside and is drizzled with maple syrup! the chicken was crispy, but slightly dry. overall i liked it - a good balance of sweet and savory flavors with contrasting textures. my friend had the carnitas benedictos, which they said were good (a little spicy) this seems like a good place for casual brunch with friends (they do bottomless !) but it didn't blow me away.

    Red light lit open mic

Came here for Red Light Lit's open mic that my friend was performing at. Parking can be tough as it's in the heart of the bustling Mission so come early if you're driving or chance Bart- 16th and Mission exit. First impression is that of a present-day dive bar when you enter - dimly lit, unglamorous, eclectic and if you travel further in, you'll see the door to a secret patio in the back. Almost expecting to provide a password to get in- kinda speakeasy-ish. The outdoor patio is where the open mic was held and it was an intimate area with long wooden tables, wall art, and some plants. Their garlic fries and peach sangria were pretty good - I ate the fruit slices in the sangria and got a welcomed mini buzz on the empty stomach. Looks like they also have a menu with upscale bar food and of course, lots of drinks. The bartender was friendly with a heavy handed pour for my Pinot Grigio that I ordered later. Vibe was chill - it's an ideal place for a small event and to hang out with friends. Also there are a ton of yummy Mexican spots nearby if the craving hits.

    Tuna melt and beer

FAS System Food: not great but what do you expect coming. To to a dive bar. It ain't Portland but it tries to be. Back to the food. Ordered a tuna melt but it taste fishier than well whoever you can imagine that's fishy if you know what I mean. NO PICKLES. How you eat a tuna melt without pickles. Fries are so so but not bad, typical fries. Tuna melt didn't stick in the sense that the bread feels detached. Anyways it's a dive bar I give it a 2.5. Atmosphere: tries to be Portland but isn't. It's sf and the mission ain't the mission. 1 hot broad in the whole place. It's great if you like smoke dive bars without the smoke and snow. I give it a 4 because of the projected movie crap. Service: service is whatever the hell you expect from dive bar, standard take your order crap. 3? Total: 9.5 / 3 is what. I'm in tech idk what's your answer. Apparently it's 3.17 Total: 3.2

This place looks mike a dive bar from the outside. But they serve food so we came here for a bite before the Carnaval parade. Friendly service, cool environment, but the food was just okay.

    Salmon Benedict
    Jonathan H.

I'm here on a Saturday for lunch. The front room and the back patio both have plenty of room, there are maybe 4 groups here. They are only serving brunch, which wasn't what I can in for but I'm having the salmon eggs Benedict and it's delicious. This place looks like a dive bar and nothing is level from the floor to the tables that wobble. Service is good and the people are nice. They only serve beer/wine and since it's brunch they have mimosas. Three sizes in fact, mini, pinty, and endless. I'm not in the mission often so I'll probably never be back as I like to try new things and while this place is good it's not great for what I'm usually looking for.

12 years ago: *Bookmarks The Sycamore for their pork belly donuts* 12 years later: *Goes to The Sycamore and FORGETS to order the pork belly donuts* On a positive note, it probably saved me a thousand calories and...a night of heartburn because I forgot to bring my travel medicine cabinet. The older I get, gotta bring every OTC on deck to take care of the aches, pains, sniffles...and bubble guts. To those in your 20s, enjoy it while you can! Dropped into The Sycamore before dinner to grab some drinks only to find out they only serve beer & wine (I don't drink neither). No hard liquor. Opps. The Sycamore has both indoor and outdoor seating. They have sidewalk seating in front, a side parklet in the alley, and a backyard patio. Dog-friendly! F O O D M E N U * Bar food (fries, jalapeno poppers, etc), pork belly donuts, salads, sandwiches, and sliders. * Brunch menu on weekends with bottomless mimosas for $25 pp for 2 hours. Two seatings: 10:30 am and 1 pm. CC's accepted with $10 minimum. D R I N K S I felt like an dummy when I asked the bartender what kind of vodka they have. She was super nice and asked if I wanted Underberg, an herbal digestif similar to fernet but not as sugary tasting. I got two ittty witty brown paper wrapped bottles ($3 each) and a glass of pinot grigio ($9.75) for a friend and we plunked our arses down in their backyard patio: https://bit.ly/3bLx3XK. Def down to come back to try their pork belly donuts...IF I don't forget my Pepcid at home!

I love this place. It's in the mission where there is always something to watch out the window. And let me tell you about the butter, garlic fries! You order at the counter and they bring the food out. Also, the monster-mosa was the touch we needed!

    Demitria R.

Stopped in today after a Palestinian liberation rally, on one of the hottest days of the year, hungry & bedraggled. The black bean burger here is always phenomenal, the patio is so zen and comfortable, and the staff was so ultra lovely and kind. I've nothing but total gratitude for the babes behind the bar and in the kitchen, and I'm looking forward to my next visit for an Underberg & my favorite quick/filling vegan bite in the Mission Thanks gang xoxo

From the outside, The Beer Hall almost blended into its surroundings - I almost walked right by if it hadn't been for the neon "The Beer Hall" sign. The taproom is quite spacious and could accommodate several large groups; however, the night of our visit was relatively quiet, perhaps due to the cold weather. Since there weren't any large tables, our group spread out over three smaller tables. As people came and went throughout the evening, it was convenient that we could each order our own beer and food at the bar. I selected an IPA from Fieldwork, a local favorite, and the beer stayed cold and refreshing throughout the evening. The food menu was limited, but I was craving something warm and salty to pair with my beer. For nearly $10, the fries weren't cheap, but the plate was piled high with some of the best fries I've had in a while. They were served piping-hot alongside two dipping sauces - aioli and ketchup. My friends sitting around me couldn't resist them either, and the mountain of fries disappeared in record time. The servers at the bar were very friendly and checked in on our group often. We spent a few hours enjoying our conversation and beer, overall having a fun, laid-back evening.

It is also nice to be able to enjoy delicious beers while sitting outdoors at the park. You order when you pay, and they give you your beer immediately. They hand you a pager that beeps when your pizza is ready and you pick it up on the side where you can also get small packages of hot peppers and parmesan cheese.

Our first stop after taking the elevator up to the park level was to pause at Barebottle for a tasty summer pint ($7 for a Czech style pilsner) to sip while we walked the loop and took in the beautiful gardens and interesting design choices for the shared spaces. Service at the window was just fine. Tap-to-pay with smart phone was easy. If I'd had more time, I may have tried the flights and some of food options that include Detroit-style pizza, salads, and a few pub snacks. The bier garten seating was plentiful and I could see hanging out there on a nice afternoon to listen to music, share a drink, or play a few rounds of table games. Note that you can't take your beer out of the park, so if you're planning to ride the gondola back down, you'll need to chug it before boarding.
