Loved my experience at Hi Hat and I'll be back. I got a seat at the bar and was able to snag the last spicy vodka & stracciatella slice at the suggestion of my bartender and it was fantastic. The mushroom slice was good too, though I wanted more mushroom flavor. They did ran out of most slices pretty fast so come early. Love that you can get whatever toppings on the slices too. The french onion dip was unexpectedly spicy and tasty, lots of garlic (I think). It leaned a little salty but was a nice bite. Honestly the whole menu sounded good but I was happy with my choices and very stuffed. I also had the banana biscoff pudding which was yum. I got a spicy vodka pie to go too which was great but not as good as the slices there (not about reheating but the flavors seemed slightly different). It's a pretty huge pizza - the box literally would not fit in my fridge. Made for a solid lunch plus more leftovers in the freezer. I also got a salted brown butter cookie to go which was good but I've had better and prefer my cookies a little chewier. But it was a huge cookie for $3 in a city where smaller similar cookies can be $5 so I appreciated that. Lots of wine and beer options and I appreciated that they had a bunch of N/A options. Service was great and the I enjoyed my time there. I round up to 5 stars because of the overall experience. read more

My past two visits here have exceeded my expectations, and I really enjoy pressuring friends to make visits, too. price: ~$20/person recs: stracciatella pizza, hi hat burger (but honestly, everything has been good) imo the pizza is best when it's fresh, so dining in elevates the experience. The crust is my favorite part -- it's thin (but not too thin), savory, and almost focaccia-like. The vodka sauce on the stracciatella pizza is balanced, and ingredients taste super fresh. Paired with a draft beer, this makes for a super well-rounded meal :^ ) I was also surprised I liked the burger as much as I did. The burger comes with a generously portioned, juicy patty and is paired with piping hot and well-salted fries. Would easily make many more visits to this establishment! read more

This spot is fantastic--super unassuming and easy to miss, but absolutely worth seeking out. I stopped by after Dave Portnoy gave it a solid 8.2, and it completely lived up to the hype. The staff is incredible--warm, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. I ended up chatting with the bartender/waitress the entire time I was there. For the full experience, I ordered a whole pepperoni pie instead of just slices. (Fresh whole pies almost always hit different.) As someone who makes my own dough and sauce at home, has read way too many pizza books, and geeks out over the craft, I can confidently say this was some of the best pizza I've ever had. Some of the best pizza I have ever tried! Came in on Sunday night to try and cop a late night slice but was saddened to hear the stop serving slices. But I was determined so I came back the next day during happy hour and was excited to try the vodka and stracciatella slice. The sauce was great the cheese was creamy and the crust had the perfect crunch. I also got a pepperoni slice and while it was good, I felt like the pepperoni was a little too much and was overpowering the base of the pizza if that makes sense. Overall would definitely come back! If you don't want to wait in line come on a weekday. Finally got to try the pizza here after so long. The pizza texture was gr8 no flop indeed. Things to note the inside was very nice with a bar and super nice/ attentive servers which I appreciated. I thought the mushroom pizza was a bit too heavy and repetitive IMO but the other slice the spicy vodka was delicious. Also had the chip dip + broccoli salad which were also both tasty. Really enjoyed the pizza. Probably one of the best slices I've had in the city. Cookie had layers and layers of chocolate, which I appreciated. It's a soft/moist type of cookie. No crispy edges. When I asked for a piece of foil for the pizza, the person that was assisting (I assume manager or owner) just took one of the triple stacked thin plate that the pizza was served to cover the top. I love this place. I came here to try their pizza and was not disappointed. Easily my top 3 NY pizza places in the Bay Area We tried a full vodka pie, and a slice of the pepperoni and the jersey tomato. All excellent. The hi hat burger was also really tasty, though I wish the patty made it to the edges of the bun and that they were more generous with the pickles. One of the workers (I assume is a manager or owner) saw I had the warriors game on my phone and he asked me about it and then proceeded to put it on the TV. Really great environment. read more

My partner and I dined here on a Friday night, and we got seated immediately. Since it was our first time, we decided to order a slice of each type of pizza - pepperoni, jersey tomato pie, mushroom pie, spicy vodka & stracciatella. Our favorite ended up being the spicy vodka & stracciatella, which was so flavorful and delicious that we ended up getting another slice of it afterwards. Came for the pizza but definitely don't sleep on the burger!! I added mushrooms to mine after the bartender suggested I do so and it's definitely the move. For pizza we got slices of the mushroom and the vodka & stracciatella. They were both A+ flavor combinations and so tasty, but I think the crust was a liiiittle crunchier than I wanted (as opposed to chewy), I suspect because they were slices and thus probably reheated. I was by no means deterred though and scarfed my meal down so fast. So glad that another pizza shop opened in the Mission, I will definitely be back to try out the whole pies and beers! read more

We popped in for dinner on a Sunday night, and had a great experience! Tasty food, excellent service, in a pleasant, though dark, setting (we loved the art on the walls)! My husband, 7 year old daughter, and I all enjoyed our burgers and fries. They were juicy and flavorful. They come medium rare, so I'd recommend asking for medium or medium-well if you're not a fan of medium-rare. My husband appreciated the selection of beers they had, and enjoyed his STS Russian River lager. I appreciated their selection of wines and quite liked my Deloach Pinot Noir. The service was excellent- attentive and detail-oriented. We appreciated that they checked if we were ready for a second round of drinks before our first round was empty. They were definitely kid-friendly and our child was one of at least 3 children present when we came for a 6pm dinner. They had an art show with awesome paintings on display. The space is dimly lit (I personally would have preferred brighter, better lighting). Overall, this is a great spot and we look forward to returning! read more

Not sure if this place had an off night as our experience was vastly different from the glowing reviews here. Photos of the pizza looked promising online and the menu sounded good. Vibe was cozy with a nice bar area. But service was severely lacking: we waited at the front for several minutes and in spite of making eye contact with multiple staff, no one came over to seat us or even acknowledge our presence. Someone coming out from the kitchen finally noticed and was kind enough to wave us in and tell us to sit wherever. After sitting down, we similarly waited several minutes for someone to hand us menus or at least asked if we wanted water, until we got fed up and just grabbed menus on our own. We noticed that parties coming in after us were seated and handed waters before we even got a menu and this lack of service was persistent as we watched these later parties get their orders taken first and their food arrive before us. I don't usually order salad because I think they're rip-offs, but I was desperate for some greens and the arugula salad lived up to this expectation. If the pizza were good, at least there'd be some saving grace to the experience. We ordered a slice of each pizza offered: pepperoni, cheese, summer squash, mushroom, and spicy vodka & stracciatella. There was literally no summer squash in the summer squash pizza. It was really more like a cilantro/mint leaf salad than a pizza. Mushroom pie was okay; the garlic confit didn't add much and there was hardly any detectable porcini flavor in the porcini cream. The cheese and the spicy vodka slices were functionally the same -- I couldn't tell them apart. Tomato sauce was nothing standout and I wouldn't even say the slices were particularly cheesy. My husband gave the pepperoni a 5/10. As for the crust? Sure, it was thin. But boy was it tough. There's a difference between a good crisp and just being dry and hard. I had to yank on it with my teeth to rip a piece off. I've had my fair share of NYC thin crust and this was just not it for me. read more

We got some slices and they were on point. The dough tastes great. I bet their full pizza would be even better since it'll be more fresh. When scoring experiences, normally I lend balance to food, service and ambiance. However, my primary reason for agreeing to try Hi Hat was to eat dinner. So my rating heavily weighs my food experience. Do with this information as you will. Ambiance For those familiar with the old Pi Bar, the ambiance doesn't disappoint. Brightly lit room with ample seating that stays true to the desires of beer enthusiast via a diverse selection of craft beers. The music selection was also well curated by a DJ spinning vinyl records. Service The bartenders and food server were all attentive and professional Food I hear the pizza is really good, although having had Tartine Manufacturing pizza a day prior (which is not 'New Haven' style as Hi Hat describes itself), I was in the mood for something different. From the menu, a Spicy Vodka Chicken Parmesan sando, on Rize Up Bread with a thin layer of ricotta cheese with lemon zest, sounded great. At $21 for JUST a sandwich, expectations were reasonably high. Sadly, the sando, which is a newer item on the menu missed the mark primarily for NOT being made fresh to order. If this establishment was an Xtreme Pizza, or even worse a Mr. Pizza Man, maybe my expectations would have been reset. But again, for a $21 sandwich, from a business that appears to be meticulous in every other area (albeit the bathroom needed more paper towels), not making the sandwich fresh to order is a HUGE miss. My advice, don't treat your sandwiches like a slice of pizza. The expectations differ as a pizza reheated taste materially different than a chicken parm reheated . Customers are willing to wait for fresh food given realistic expectations, and this cost should already be factored into your business model. read more

This is the best pizza I've found in SF (or the bay) in 12 years of living here. We've only gotten takeout so far but I had a beer at the bar while I waited a couple of minutes last night. They have a short but well-considered draft list and a solid double IPA that hit the spot. Really friendly staff. The hi hat burger was also ridiculously good and super reasonably priced. BUT THE PIZZA.. it's fucking nuts, like absurdly delicious. The mushroom pie is *fantastic*, but we've tried three types so far and they're all excellent. If you like a slightly less crispy crust (or if you're going to heat it up at home), they'll do a 3/4 cook which we think is basically perfection. We're greedily eyeing the three leftover slices from last night. So many pizza joints here try to tie themselves to NY, but this is the first I can say truly delivers on that claim. It's not just that though, it does make one think NY but they infuse their own style in a way that just works incredibly well. It's become on of our go-to spots by the second visit. Well, this is exciting. I had been pining for Pi Bar, the nostalgia about that place was real. Now we have something better filling Pi Bar's space. And the name of this place is a fun whimsical musical reference. We tried four pizza slices: plain cheese, pepperoni, pesto, and mushroom. The plain cheese was definitely best, and may be in the top three slices I've had in the city. Pesto was just ok - the pesto was sort of plopped in the center of the pizza rather than being evenly distributed, which I didn't love. Mushroom was tasty, though the burrata on top was flavorless - just added a lot (perhaps too much) richness. My husband ate the pepperoni and he loved it, he said the pepperoni was perfectly crisp, crust was excellent (crust on all slices was excellent). This spot has a few nonalcoholic beers, sports on the TVs and several interesting menu items. Staff are relaxed and the vibe is chill, nice 80s and 90s music. I definitely plan to watch some Giants games here this season while enjoying Hi Hat's food! read more

Wow. I used to come to the old Pi Bar. But the new Hi Hat seems way better. I really like what the new ownership has done with the space. A lot better vibe. The walls are light color which helps make the space feel more open and less like a cave. The floor is cork and looks amazing. They are showcasing a local artist instead of a bunch of random beer signs. The bathrooms are also a big upgrade fwiw. And then comes the food. I'm very impressed by the pizza. These guys seem to be hitting it with the New York style. Pi Bar was very good with their NY style. But this is better. I live in LA now and only visit SF occasionally. But I can't wait to come back. LA doesn't have anything this good. I'm also really happy that they rounded out the menu with salads, sandwiches, a burger, fries and appetizers. That was missing with Pi Bar. Then I have to compliment them on the beer and wine selection. Pi always had really good craft stuff so I'm glad to see the new place continue in that tradition.
