WAY overpriced. Portions small. I wanted clam linguini. Fortunately at the last minute the server informed me it had pork in it. WHAT. So I switched to pizza. The pizza was quite good. My friend got the clam linguini and I didn't like the look of it at all. Husband got spaghetti pomodoro. It was okay, not anything to write home about. They charge $8 for bread! Ridiculous (didn't get). Panzenella salad was tiny. Had hoped to share but it was really only large enough for one person. Server removed some dishes before others had finished eating. Very noisy. One of the worst experiences in sf! First off the pizza came really burnt, but worst part is that they added some kind of meat other than the anchovies without specifying it on their menu. I don't eat pork so I'm very particular about my orders! Regarding the pizza, it had a burnt taste ( as you can see from the picture) and a very acidic sauce. I will not be coming back and I recommend people try out other great pizza spots in the city like Joyride (it's close to this one) or the classics like Tony's or flower and water! read more

I was going to review this place a long time ago, but then I moved to the Mission, so my rule about having to give places nearby multiple tries (unless horrendous) suddenly applied, and I was procrastinating. Then I found out that next-door Delfina cannibalized its sister restaurant, so Pizzeria Delfina doesn't actually exist, even though Delfina still does.* So here's my review, in the works since 2018 or 2019. I came here as part of TotMW, and I accidentally entered Delfina next door. My bad, I guess? When you see the same hosts and other dressed up people going from storefront to storefront, it's easy to misunderstand. In any case, once I was in the correct place, I told the host or whomever that I was dining by myself, and he frowned in a really exaggerated way at me and told me he didn't have any small tables even though a couple had just left and there wasn't anyone else waiting outside. I then realized that I was dressed in a shabby-John S. style, and I realized I was being slightly discriminated against because I wasn't the right kind of person for this pencil neck's dining room. I asked him about the two-top currently being bused, and he told me that that table was going to another party, but I could sit outside if I wanted. I wasn't too eager about this because it was pretty cold that night, but there was a warmer on the sidewalk, so outside I sat. My actual server was even ruder than the "host." When I asked about certain combinations of toppings, he rolled his eyes and told me they were all listed on the menu. I waited too long for my pizza, but when it came, it was very good. I have a long and complicated relationship with broccoli rabe, but at least on this cold night on 18th Street when I apparently wasn't good enough to eat inside, I enjoyed my pizza like I've never enjoyed anything with broccoli rabe on/in it before. It was the second-best fancy pizza I've ever had, behind Gialina. The service was OK once I had my pizza. I steamed in the cold outside, though, because that "reserved" table sat unoccupied for the entirety of my visit. The food was 4.75. The service was bad, not because it really was bad, but because I felt like I was intentionally unvalued as a customer. The place simply was too precious, and I'm kind of glad I don't have to return. *Seriously, owners? If you're going to open a different kind of restaurant next door to your restaurant, give it a completely different name. Swung by here for a quick bite ahead of an intramural volleyball game that I had over in the Mission. This place had lovely outdoor seating (when the weather was nice a while ago) as well as indoor seating. I enjoyed how they had little sectionals with two groups of chairs (one table with two chairs and on the other side in the same sectional, one table with 4 chairs). I felt very comfortable eating with enough space for the waiter / waitress to get by as well as for the other group to eat. I also enjoyed that as it was outside, the COVID concern was taken into thought and tables were placed with precaution. I also went recently and the place had string lights up and while closed at the time, you can see that the seating would have been great for a date night. The time I went, I split a Margherita Pizza and I can't lie, you know what you are going to get. They do it well and that pizza lived up to the hype and the standard for a great margherita pizza. Another delayed post but the bf and I had finally tried Locanda a month or so before the pandemic and loved it. So we were very sad when it wound up closing but then were very excited when Pizzeria Delfina had a Locanda night in March. We jumped at the chance to have the Locanda experience again and it was great. Everything tasted great. Kind of wish the deviled eggs weren't an odd number so the bf and I split the remaining one since neither of us wanted to give up on the extra egg haha. I love tartare but usually you just see steak tartare so I enjoyed having this lamb version. Appreciated that the pasta sauce did not overwhelm the delicate nature of the crab. The cod came out perfectly. Did not take a picture of the pudding cake bc we did not notice that it was a pudding cake and we were so full from the rest of dinner that we saved it for the next day. I had known about Delfina for a long time since moving here but I had never gone. I finally gave it a shot a few weeks ago and I have to say I was very happy. My girlfriend and I ordered takeout from here two weeks ago and we got two pizza's : The Funghi and Brocolli Raab. Both pies were very solid. The toppings were fresh and cooked to perfection. Service wise, the kitchen was efficient and got our order done within the anticipated time (and it was a busy night) and the staff were friendly. Definitely the best neapolitan style pizza I've had in the Mission so far. Would highly reccomend stopping by here. read more

Ordered take out from Delfina during covid times. The online ordering system was really easy to use. Once I got to Delfina, I was able to find parking around the corner. They had clear signs saying where to pick up and wait. Just provide your name on the order and the woman would pack it up and hand it to you. I drove my pizza home and it smelled delicious in the car. Once home, I toasted it really quickly just to warm it back up again. I had ordered the margarita and panna pizzas, and the spaghetti. Let's start with the good, the pizzas were decent and once heated up the cheese became melty again. The margarita was better than the panna. The panna was supposed to have cream sauce but I didn't taste much of it. The margarita could have used some more basil on the pizza. The spaghetti was just ok, I wouldn't recommend this to others - just stick to the pizza. The sauce was pretty oily, but the flavor of the spaghetti improved with the parmesan cheese. Overall feed was edible. As such a highly reviewed pizza place I was expecting better. But hey, maybe you have to have the pizza fresh right out the of oven. read more

I'm a sucker for Neapolitan pizza, and in general, my pizza standards are pretty high: thin crust, high-quality ingredients, not too greasy, light on the cheese. In light of COVID, Pizzeria Delfina (at least, at their Mission location), only offers takeout. My friends and I came here, initially hoping for outdoor (if not indoor) seating. However, we realized that our only option was to order for takeout and find another area to eat our actual food. Nevertheless, amongst the three of us, we shared a Funghi (white pizza) and Margherita (red pizza). I couldn't contribute much to the Funghi, because my lactose intolerance only allows me to handle so much dairy, lol. However, I fell in LOVE with the Margherita. The tomato sauce was both rich and sweet. Also, nothing beats a nicely-browned crust or hot, melted sliced mozzarella. Pizzeria Delfina kills the pizza game, and I would come back here again in a heartbeat the next time my pizza craving hits. read more

We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday (this is her favorite restaurant) and shared a couple of veggies, pizzas and a bottle of red. They don't take reservations so we made sure to get here right before 6 pm on a Thursday night. We were comfortably seated outside but it was a tight squeeze - relatively small table to fit five people. The server was nice enough to course the meal for us - the eggplant and string beans came out first followed by the cherry pie, then the porcini pie and ending with the salsiccia. Food was solid and the salsiccia was my favorite. After the meal, time to go for ice cream down the street. Service was quick and efficient. We went here as a party of 3 on a Friday night around 730. We only had to wait about 10-15 minutes for a table. The place is very small and only has a handful of tables. I don't think this would be good for large groups. We ordered one white pizza and one red. The crust on the white was good but the entire pizza needed salt. 3.5 stars. I think this place is overhyped. I've come here a few times now and the food is good but nothing really stands out to me and at premium prices for pizza. There's always a long wait here too. Fortunately we came the first weekend of the new year in the late afternoon and were seated immediately outside. They have heat lamps to keep you warm. We ordered the carbonara pizza, Neapolitan meatballs and saffron arancini. This was my second lunch so I skipped on the pizza which actually looks really appetizing with the egg but it also looked extremely hard to eat with the egg dripping and sliding off the crust. The meat balls were probably the best dish. The tomato sauce they used was really sweet and good. The arancini was decent but there nothing that really popped in the dish. It could use more seasoning and flavor. I've also had on a separate occasion the Broccoli Raab pie. I wasn't impressed by the dish. All the ingredients tasted what you'd expect them to be but they didn't necessarily blend together to create that satisfying first bite. The crust was also partially burnt for our pizza. They use a very thin crust. A bit underwhelming. Parking in the area is challenging on weekends. The restaurant is located a block away from Dolores park. Lots of people in the neighborhood and located right by Bi-Rite and Tartine's. Come here on a weekday if you want to try out the spot or order your food to go. Great service. Each time I've gone, the staff has been very friendly. The last time I got take out, the waiter had forgotten to return my credit card and I had forgotten to ask for it back after paying and they called me immediately to let me know. Parking was easy but again this was 8pm on a Monday. As for the pizza great crust, cheese , etc very happy I got dinner via Delfina. btw a few things to note, they do family meals , and kits, and currently Matzo Ball Soup on order for the coming holidays. Delfina has a nice Wine selection with some markup but it's still very reasonable. They also have premixed cocktails for 2 just add Glass and Ice. Why Delfina ? I live in dogpatch and I really just ever order pizza from the local place there but the pizza here is amazing too! I wanted a meaty pizza but the waiter suggested the Pana with spicy sausage. It was fantastic! Just enough meat to satisfy my craving. Also orders the brussel sprouts for a starter and they were also really tasty. Kinda reminded me a bit like kale chips because of they way they were cooked to taste a bit crunch. The place isn't big so seating is very limited. We decided to sit outside but that made my pizza get colder faster :( Will definitely recommend and come back. The sister restaurant next door only serves pasta, no pizza. While I've always enjoyed their pizza, my favorite dish from Pizzeria Delfina is their Saffron Arancini!! Small, perfectly crispy, appropriately salty balls of cheesy rice are the right size for about two bites, and each order is big enough to share with one other person without feeling like you haven't had your fill! The Tiramisu we ordered a few weeks ago was incredibly delicious, very flavorful. I could tell they had used very high quality ingredients, because I usually make tiramisu at home, since many restaurants are skimpy on the essentials, like mascarpone and quality booze...but not Delfina! Their rendition is a high-quality, rich, harmonious delight!!! We also recently got some of their potato latkes for Chanukah, and they were SO GOOD!!! They were sold frozen in 12 packs, and we fried them up at our leisure, devouring them with generous dollops of ice-cold sour cream! On a practical level, Delfina has EXCELLENT Covid protocol: You can order and pay online, then walk up to their window for masked, socially-distanced pick-up. If there's a line, they have markings and signage to enforce social-distancing. All employees are masked, friendly, and helpful. I can't WAIT until the full restaurant is open once again...but in the meantime, Pizzeria Delfina is DEFINITELY giving my fix of great take-out food!!! read more

Right next door to Delfina, this pizzeria is more on the small side, with just a few tables and an exposed kitchen that cranks out fresh, hot pizzas. These pizzas are the traditional Neapolitan style that is thin and softer in texture, and lighter to ingest, at least compared to pizza in the states. We started off with some thin, cracker-like breadsticks on the table before our pizzas arrived. $16 Margherita - tomato, fior di latte mozzarella, basil, +$3 prosciutto: Just biting into the soft dough, gooey mozzarella, and mild tomato sauce (not too sour or sweet) was very satisfying. There was very little basil, just enough to give a hint of that basil aroma. We also added prosciutto as a topping, which was super thin and delicious. $17.75 Broccoli Raab - broccoli raab, caciocavalio, mozzarella, olives, hot peppers: I am not the biggest broccoli rabe lover, but this just had a mild bitter flavor, not too sharp. The white cheese sauce was nice. This pizza was more on the crunchy side. In fact, both of the pizzas crisped up nicely. I was glad we ate early and there was no wait. Came here on a Sunday around 5pm. It was already pretty packed to my surprise. There aren't that many tables inside so I would definitely recommend getting there early to avoid a wait. The parking situation is also pretty difficult in that area. We got the carbonara pizza ($19) and the salciccia ($18.50). Both came out relatively fast (15-20 min). The carbonara was really good - it had a large amount of cheese and egg on it, and the cured pork was fatty and delicious. The salciccia was good too, but was more ordinary and tasted similar to most sausage pizzas. 2 pizzas were enough to fill 2 guys and 2 girls. Service was prompt and efficient. read more

Note that this is a review regarding their pick up options during shelter in place. I was recently at Pizzeria Delfina to pick up an order of pizza for some relaxation time at Mission Dolores Park. It was easy walking distance from the park, and the storefront was well prepared for pickup. They had staff ready at the front door to follow-up on the order pick up, and the food was ready at the promised time. They had individual sized plates and utensils available for us as well, which was perfect. We picked up a total of 3 pizzas, a pesto pie, and two customized margherita pizzas. The food was quite good, and the pizzas were all warm even when we brought it back to the park. We appreciated the solid flavors, great crusts, and gooey cheese. Overall, we all enjoyed our order from Pizzeria Delfina and the service was great. The store was well prepared for pick-up orders in the shelter in place setting and appears to maintain a clean, hygienic food service storefront. read more

I've been here a few times and the important thing to focus on is the details. The service is great but its also the care with which they do the take away. I found everything I needed inside the bag and the quality of add ons is spectacular. What I mean by add-ons are things like parmesan and red pepper flakes. You can taste the difference in quality which makes a tremendous difference. Now, onto the pizza. Their pizza is well crafted if you like that style of pizza. It can be a little soggy in the middle but that's more of the style than any fault of the restaurant themselves. I absolutely LOVED the pizza from this restaurant! Came on a Friday night around 7:30 and surprisingly was seated almost immediately in the cute outdoor patio. I tried the Prosciutto and Funghi pizzas and loved them both. The prosciutto one has a unique creamy cheese sauce under the meat and arugula, and tasted very fresh. I liked the funghi pizza the most, the mushrooms were perfect (not too strong umami) and with added onions, had a perfectly balanced and delicious flavor. Felt a little fancy and a lot reckless this Friday eve and decided to DoorDash a near hundred dollar meal for myself. BUT BOY WAS SHE WORTH IT. Phew. I can't believe I didn't know about this place til today. I got the Belfiore Burrata (mwah), Neapolitan Meatballs in Sugo, Funghi Pizza (chefs kiss), the Buttermilk Panna Cotta and a drink. I was definitely really hungry but STILL it was all sooooooooo goooooood. The meatballs, though a little too gamey for my own taste, were seasoned phenomenally and cooked to perfection. I was writing poetry in my head but it wasn't very good so I thought I'd at least leave a review. This has been the most satisfying meal I've had in a LONG TIME.
