Beers: a Bock and a Wheat Hef, both delicious and Gluten free. Schnitzel: GF, crispy and tender, served with a white sauce that was so addictive and a potato cake / scalloped potato side that was excellent. Let me be clear: the problem here is me. I don't know why, but I just can't seem to figure out how to order food at this establishment. I walk in with the same basic plan every time: I want a sausage (say, a bratwurst or a knockwurst), in a bun, with mustard and sauerkraut. Nothing wild. No sides. No aioli. No caramelized onions. Just a sausage. In a bun. Like a hotdog. And somehow. EVERY time. I fail. I use my words. I try to speak clearly. I even prepped for this latest visit by consulting AI. I studied. I practiced. I made sure I wasn't the problem. But alas, I walked in and said: "One bratwurst, one knockwurst." The person behind the counter looked at me like I had just invented language. "Brockwurst?" No, not Brockwurst. I don't even know what that is. But I pressed on, "Never mind, just two knockwursts." He asked if I meant the "San Francisco style." (A menu item with all kids of stuff including sides that I don't want) I said, "Basically, yeah -- but without the sides or caramelized onions. Just mustard and kraut." Foolish me. What I received were two sliced sausages in trays, mustard and sauerkraut in little plastic ramekins, no buns, and one quizzical look when I asked, "Why is there no bun?" "Like... a pretzel bun?" he asked. Yes. Sure. That thing people put sausages on. A bun, man. It was like I had asked for spaghetti. I tried to make the most of it and ate some of the knockwurst (which was good) but I couldn't do it. I just... left. Left the tray. Left the beer. (Keep the tip.) Because clearly, I am not smart enough for this place. If you're someone who thrives in an environment where menus are puzzles, and every order is a decoding game, this is your Disneyland. If you're more like me, just hoping to wing it with words, stick to one of their 4 menu options. Or be prepared to draw picture of a hotdog. I'll take my business somewhere less intellectually demanding. Someplace where they'll meet me halfway to figure out this "knockwurst in a bun" business. read more

I had just gotten excited about the gluten-free fish & chips and started coming back regularly to satisfy the craving after coming to terms with my former favorites being removed from the menu... and now it's off the menu too. NOBODY has rice flour gluten free fish & chips- do you know how awesome that is for someone who can't eat fried things, ever? You don't, or you wouldn't have removed it from the menu. I've walked past here countless times, and finally decided to give it a try. This place is great for people watching and has a nice comfy vive to it. You can order using a QR code, where a server will bring drinks/food out to you, and you can pay using the QR code as well. They have a good variety of beers and all the ones I tried were good. I also had one of the spicy brats and it definitely had a kick to it. The chips were also good, and overall the prices are reasonable for SF. A dog friendly indoor beer garden (yes dogs allowed inside). Friendly and helpful service where they allow you to taste before you buy. Beautiful decor with communal tables too. Self-service on tap water, board games and sinks outside the toilets are nice amenities. Oh yes, the beer and bratwursts are great too. They have a nice x-section on beer, from pils to IPA to wine. German-style food choices compliments their beer nicely. With the communal tables - we have enjoyed coming here with just 2 people to meeting here with a big group. We will return! read more

My friends have been telling me to come check this place out, and I was not disappointed! First off, the vibe is so cool. Very open and airy. Fun pops of color. They have a large selection of draft beer, so I got the "Hello Sexy" , which was pretty good! Then I got the SF Style Wurst which is this delicious sausage served on a French roll with amazing toppings. It came quick and hot! So good. Wilkommen was a central spot for some of my friends group so it was the go to place to meet up for dinner and drinks up for a while. I had a free afternoon and decided to go for lunch today since it's been a while AND because I've yet to find a sandwich like the holy schnitzel. It's simple but the combination of flavors is just so good. The fries are always on point and I got a shandy today which was refreshing on an unusually warm day. You order through a QR code (Toast) and the guy working the front of the house was friendly and fast, I never had to wait too long for my order. It was fairly quiet, someone had a laptop out (working presumably) and there was something on the TV but I've yet to be here when it's uncomfortably loud. The interior is nicely decorated with plants, and fun lighting. What stands out to me is the beer selection - they've got quite the spread of drinks ranging from sours, to lagers, porters and even ciders. The staff I've met in the afternoons have always been very friendly and easy to talk to. They're also very knowledgeable about their beer selection and let you try samples before going all in on a drink. The space is very open and full of light. Seating is plentiful with an extended bar top and lots of tables for 8 that can be communal during higher times. They have a pretty good variety of beers on rotation. Tried the Hefeweizen and a cider, both were very good and drinkable (4/5). For food we opted for pretzel sticks (3.5/5). Would have preferred a Bavarian knot but the pretzels were good and the beer cheese sauce was tasty. We also got two sausage plates- one SF style (5/5) and one Bavarian with red cabbage and German potato salad (5/5). The SF was amazing! I could have eaten another one with the tasty cheese and onions. I wish I would have upgraded to fries instead of chips though, or asked if it was an option as I saw fries with another platter nearby. We had three different sausages and all were very good. This seems like a great spot with lots of event taking place throughout the week. If we were locals, I'm sure this would become a frequent stop. read more

Willkommen is a German restaurant that serves wursts and beers, located in Duboce Triangle. It has both indoor and outdoor seating. They offer a wide selection of beers on tap, and really good sausages. I got the SF style which came with relish and cheese - it is very cheesy, but the relish added a good touch. The SF style also came with barbecue chips on the side - overall this dish was pretty filling and satisfying. The service was generally pretty good - we were served our drinks and dishes pretty quickly. However they did mix up our drinks once - and my friend had ordered the Berliner but ended up getting the curry wurst. I personally found the food quite expensive and not super memorable. We got a few of the wursts to share, and they were all decent. I think the intent was to turn the cavernous space into an indoor beer garden with at least ten German-style beers on tap from Black Hammer Brewing. That should satisfy the hipster crowd as all I saw were young males and their brewskis. I'm not much of a beer drinker, which is primarily why I haven't been in here before. That and that pesky COVID. I was lured in by their currywurst menu item, the $12 Berliner. Listen, if you ever visit Berlin (and you should), you'll find out the most popular fast food there is currywurst. The place to get it there is Curry 36 where they serve chopped pork sausage doused in a sauce made of curry powder and ketchup. All of it is placed on top of a pile of fries, and you pick the food up with a toothpick (review: https://bit.ly/3jr7QkL). I know it sounds like a junk food mess, but it was pretty delicious. It did have a big toothpick, so they got that part right. I probably needed one of their beers to wash it down, but I wasn't in the mood to drink alone and settled for a Diet Coke. Their beer selection is pretty good. Was super surprised that a German beer garden type place that opens before noon wouldn't offer a Radler. They wouldn't even make their own despite having beer and lemonade (or lemon-lime soda if you're more into that version) on the menu. Took their Döner to go after meeting with friends, that was pretty good. I wish the cabbage was a little more acidic (from vinegar or lemon juice) like I'm used to from my days in southwest Germany, but it was still a quality sandwich. read more

We opted for a mixture of apps, including the waffle fries, Brussels sprouts and pretzel sticks. Pretty disappointed in Willkommen tonight. This has been such a great dinner/lunch staple and after the change in their menu I will maybe only come in for drinks in the future. Their drink menu didn't seem to change but their food menu sure did. I was always happy to have a great place to eat German food but this has changed to be way less German and more American pub food. I'm sure it was for some great intention for the business but this wasn't a nice surprise for me today. Really hope they bring back more spätzle, schnitzel, and wurst options, please! I got to visit this place a while back and really enjoyed it. The slightly California style and mostly authentic Bavarian food was awesome and the beers from Black Hammer helped wash it down. The space is super cool and they were even bird friendly which is a huge plus for my buddy Simon! I got a plate with two sausages served with warm potato salad and cooked red cabbage. It was awesome! I had the weisewurst and Thuringer bratwurst. They were both really good. The potato salad is why I say the style is slightly California, they were like authentic warm potato salad but then it was flat top grilled to eat a bit more like country potatoes you would get at a diner. Really good but different. The beers were all great, aside from the German styles they also had some sours and west coast IPA's. I would come back just for the beers but the food was awesome too! The Arugula Salad was a simple mixture of arugula, strawberries, goat cheese, and almonds, along with a sour green dressing. The Bavarian Plate came with braised red cabbage and a warm potato salad flavored with bacon. For our sausage selection, the Red Hot Brat was a super spicy pork and beef red pepper bratwurst; and the Beyond Brat was a vegetarian pea and fava bean sausage, which I thought was even better than the meat. In general, the food here was rather simple and of average quality--the red-skinned potatoes in the potato salad were slightly undercooked, the Red Hot Brat was super spicy without being flavorful, and the Beyond Brat was burnt on the outside.
