If comfort food were a brick and mortar restaurant it would be Paprika. Welcoming, cozy and warm, spilling over with actual comfort food! The chicken paprikash was all you'd expect in a paprikash: strong paprika flavor, tender chicken and spring onion. The toasted bread it was served with and butter was delicious! Would love to come back and try their goulash!

This evening we decided to take a stroll down 24th and found this gem. We had two glasses of cab and the Paprika Appetizer (prosciutto, salami, cheese, olives, pickles and bread). We also received an extra basket of bread free of charge. Perfect way to unwind after a long day at work. We sat outside and the evening air was cool, but not cold; it was perfect. I was worried about the smells and high traffic from 24th and mission being in such close proximity, but it was very quiet where we sat. The establishment was very clean and the service was friendly and attentive. Would recommend! Next time I think we will try dinner!

Great place for some good ol sausages. Service was friendly, attentive, and we didn't feel rushed.

Really great restaurant - it's a bit hidden and small, but provides a wonderful and intimate vide. Food is fantastic and for sure try the Czechvar (Budvar) beer - it is similar to Pilsner Urquell, only better! And it is on tap from the Czech Republic. Yum! My fav is drinking in the 32oz boot. Fun and feels like you're in a German beer hall (but of course Czech). Service was great and speedy, but not rushed. Soups are fantastic, and if in the mood, have a desert. So tasty. Love this place.

Perfect choice if you're looking for authentic and tasty Central European food. Great soup, sausages, salads. Everything is fantastic! Love this place!

It's great to continue steady support for women owned small businesses and restaurants from other different countries. I just had to try their foods that deserve attention. So before I wrap up this year with the coming of the yearly holiday season, I wanted to show you the food selections I couldn't wait to try. Paprika in Mission District has never disappointed me with its vegan options. So I chose what's good for my dinner night. My best appetizer was the vegan German sausage platter. Aside from sauerkraut, mini pickles, and a piece of bread, the beyond sausage was as solid as it looks when I sank my teeth for a bite. Its flavor profile was less than the real meat sausage, but very neat and clean. My main course was the Hungarian veggie goulash with gnocchi. I first flipped all the gnocchi pieces upside down to soak up the warm tomato soup for the better tasting experience. Veggies aside, the herbs and spices of the tomato soup made Chef Boy-R-D less worthy. Keep in mind, this goulash is an excellent choice for when the weather starts to get even colder. For dessert, dark chocolate shortcake with whipped cream on the side. For almost everyday, I couldn't stop having dark chocolate since it's rich in flavonoids. Less craving for the shortcake, but more guilt for the whipped cream. A perfect balance of sweet and bitter. Paprika was one of a kind, but it still needs more customers. Even with just one person in the kitchen, its service went smoothly.

I am Hungarian, so probably overly critical of Hungarian food (sorry, not sorry). Yet Paprika was really really good: we had the Paprika Sampler as an appetizer. Then the Szeged Gulyas and the 2 Sausage Dinner Plate. Everything was yummy, service was attentive, ambiance was chill/romantic-y. The only thing I would change: while I love gnocchi, I would love to see spätzle on the side instead. We will definitely return.

Unique place that is easy to miss! Good: - Really yummy food - I had the chicken dish and I loved how it came with a delicious mashed potatoes and also had a ton of chicken - We got a sausage appetizer as well and the bread it came with was great - we even got refills! - Unique aesthetic - wooden tables and chairs so it was good for a date night Bad: - Simple service, nothing too special about the experience and felt a little bit slower on the service side since it took a while to flag people down even though we were one of two parties inside Overall was a unique experience, unique food and a cool change of pace for my own tastes

Dining in at Paprika was one of my first experiences trying German food, and I was liked the simplicity of the menu. The drinks and food are tasty and reasonably priced. I came here for a Stammtisch meet-up, and it is likely I will become a regular here.

Got a nice chicken paprikash! I've been to Hungary recently and they are famous for their paprika, was excited to try this out! It's like curry with mash potatoes and shredded chicken. Picked this dish bc it was most popular on their Yelp! Restaurant has good vibes. Dish also came with bread!

This place is such a gem! The waiter was super friendly and the food was comforting and delicious! I've been here a couple times and love trying the different beers and sausages, they're amazing and all very different. If you want a bit of a heartier meal, the goulash is amazing! The gnocchi was nice and chewy and goes perfectly with the creamy sauce. Even the bread they serve it with was warm and perfect to sop up everything on the plate. If you're looking for a nice quiet date spot with delicious food and beer, definitely try Paprika.

This was my first time trying Hungarian food and I'm so grateful it was here at Paprika! I ordered the Szeged Goulash which comes with pork, gnocchi sauerkraut, and cream. It was such a cozy dish for a cold, gloomy SF day and made me reminisce for a grandmas homemade cooking. There was complimentary bread that was crunchy, hot, and freshly served from the oven that paired perfectly with the savory sauce. The server was also incredibly nice and made the experience at the restaurant inviting and warm.

Paprika offers a variety of highly rated German / Czech beers on tap, wines also. Main dishes served include a mix of homemade quality eastern european and german meals, prepared by good hearted owners from the old continent. Sweets such as great Strudel also available . When I visited last time, live music created an even better ambience - it elevated the neighborhood also. When I watched people walking by, they just appreciated that they have this restaurant in their neighborhood, place that cares about the community as well. The live music seemed to bring up the street appeal of this mission neighborhood area and residents seemed to like it. As mentioned in earlier reviews, this is a small owner run business where the owners are always present - cooking and serving guests , not owner absentee restaurant. I think this assures that you will always get the best service. I highly recommend Paprika for authentic European dining with Latin flavor in SF.

However, this does not explain why my credicard was eventually charged $45 instead of the $43 I signed for. Were there uncommon charges in San Francisco, and is it allowed that the resterant owner to not inform customer about it & not showed them in the final amount (after tax and tip) on the bill?

The atmosphere is exactly what you want from a place like this as it is lively but not loud, cozy but not cramped, and always buzzing with good energy, from the staff through to most of the patrons on any given night. The menu is a greatest-hits tour of German comfort food. The deviled eggs are a must to start your meal and the wienerschnitzel is my personal go‑to as it is crispy, moist, and so flavorful every time I've had it. The jägerschnitzel is another standout if you are feeling something a little lighter and saucier as it rich and savory in all the right ways, and the sausages are always banging and perfect alongside a big stein of beer. It's the kind of food that feels made for long conversations and slow sipping. What really elevates Suppenküche, though, is the people. The staff are super friendly and clearly know their stuff, always ready with a beer recommendation or a menu suggestion and the patrons tend to match that vibe; if you end up at the bar or sharing a table, which is pretty common if you come with a small group, you're likely to find yourself chatting with someone new before long. There's honestly no better way to make new friends in SF than bonding over schnitzel and a great German beer at Suppenküche.

Our waiter did throw in an extra wine to pair with it, which was much appreciated! The wines were all European-based. Out of the wines, I really enjoyed the sparkling riesling from Germany. Order in which food was served: - Amuse bouche: scallop with tomato paste (I didn't see it listed on the menu, so pardon my simplistic description) reminded me of an elevated bagel bite (that's meant to be a compliment). - Sunchoke veloute with crab and green garlic oil: Everything about this dish was amazing! The vegetal and umami flavors from the soup, crab, and garlic oil all blended so well together. Definitely a favorite! - Homemade sourdough bread with confit garlic butter: Freshly baked bread with literal melt-in-your-mouth butter spread. - Caviar with avocado vichyssoise mousse and squid ink muffins filled with egg yolk gel paired with sparkling prosecco: Enjoyed every delectable bite. Loved the light, airy texture of the mousse and the caviar and mousse paired well with the squid ink muffins. - Duck breast with pistachio praline, parsnips, and mandarinquat: This was probably my "least" favorite of the dishes, but still quite enjoyable. The way the duck breast was cooked made it almost taste like steak. I enjoyed the pistachio praline sauce and mandarinquat sauces, but wasn't quite sure whether they was supposed to be paired with the duck or the parsnips. The parsnips were cooked well, but quite bland on their own. - Yuzu cheesecake and coconut gelato: Delightful! I'm not normally a fan of coconut flakes, but I enjoyed the way they toasted them and the yuzu and coconut flavors were apparent. After all that dessert plus the apple moscato, the cup of tea was the perfect way to end the evening. Service was excellent throughout. They changed out dishware, refilled out waters, wiped down the table between dishes, and checked in on us just the right amount. This made for a great date night spot and fine dining experience.

Stand outs was the "hanging garden", and the mushroom+bread course was absolutely delicious. The seafood pasta was a miss for me in terms of messy plating and flavor, the chorizo flavor over powers the seafood and the corn bits was a strange texture add that was slightly dry/chewy. Some elements could use more finesse, but overall really tasty. We did the wine pairing as well and the pairing was excellent, really adds to the flavors well. Ambience: 7/10 the restaurant wasn't busy but we were seated by a pole in between two tables along the entrance, it felt a bit cramped and you can hear noise from the bar outside. Overall decor is a bit dated and plain, but still nice and has interesting light fixture. Service: 6/10 services across the staff was prompt and attentive. However our main server doesn't seem to be great at understanding customer needs and sometimes dismissive. I was taking my partner out to dinner as a treat for his birthday so there was moments I tried to whisper to the server about surprise or the bill, but multiple times he just decides to yell it out to my partner right afterwards. It felt really embarrassing. I had also request for an dish add on for just my tasting, but our waiter declared that my partner will also have it, and then proceed to charge double add-on entree at the end when it was our intention to just share one. That unfortunately left a slight bad taste for our experience.

The food wasn't bad, although the portions were quite small. However, that wasn't nearly as disappointing as the service. At first, we were served by a man who looked to be around 40 years old. He was very unpleasant. It felt like we owed him something. He didn't even want to come close to our table, and every time we asked a question, he answered as if he wasn't happy to have customers there. To be honest, we were really excited to visit because we had been missing our traditional cuisine so much. But after just five minutes with this waiter, I decided I would never come back. We asked several times for the dumplings without herbs, but they arrived covered with herbs anyway. Mistakes happen--we understand that. The problem was that he didn't apologize or say anything at all. He simply took the dish away. Later, a young waitress brought us the correct order. She seemed a little friendlier, but only for the first few minutes. After everything that happened, we had lost our appetite. We ate what we could, and when the bill arrived, we said we would be paying by card. The waitress replied with an annoyed attitude, "Well then, come with me." During the entire hour we spent there, not a single staff member smiled at us even once. That may seem like a small thing, but for customers it makes a huge difference. Replace these two waiters, and your restaurant will truly shine.
