I love my tart, vinegar, lemon, capers, and pickled stuff....hubby....eh..not so much. So I ordered German Meatballs and my lovely pretzel with beer cheese. The meatballs are meaty, potatoes are the real deal, mashed and with gravy poured on top! Hubby ordered the beef brisket with spatzle. The brisket was tender and the spatzle was quite mac n cheesy, using gouda as the cheese of choice. So I am loving my lovely pretzel and mustard, loving his brisket and spatzle, and loving my german meatballs. Good heavens this place was made for me! Hubby on the other hand is not a fan of tart or cheesy. So he is less than satisfied. In order to rectify this problem I order the Haus Plate with the sweinschnitzel and mashed potatoes and gravy. It comes with sauerkraut, rotkohl, and seasonal veggies (sauerkraut and rotkohl on the side). The beer of choice is hefeweizen, it goes well with the tang of the dijon mustard. Hubby wasn't a fan of the orange notes. Hubby did appreciate the sweinschnitzel and seasonal veggies though. Hooray! I love coming here and will continue my patronage!! Please read this managers. I haven't been there since about the time that this place opened and we went the other day. September 2026. What we noticed was it took a while for somebody to see us and there was nobody at the tables and only about six people at the bar on a Friday night at about 6 PM. In no way am I doing this review to be mean. If you're running a restaurant and on Friday night, you're not packed that's a serious red flag because all your effort should be going towards filling those stables during the week because Friday and Saturday are a given. So we can already established that that's a serious issue. Second thing that we noticed is that it was overstaffed, and a majority of the staff was just hanging out towards the back room, talking and everything and then back over by the bar away from the customers they were talking for most of the time because there's too many staff there. We ordered a pretzel. Pretzel was awesome. Very well prepared. The beer cheese was mediocre. Need to rethink on how to display and prepare the sauces or mustard for those pretzels. That's the weakness there because serving them in two cold stainless steel cups just isn't doing it plus the sauces didn't match the level of the pretzel. We then ordered a beet salad. First big issue. It wasn't really a beet salad. It was regular salad taken from a bag. You could tell by looking at all the cut ends they were all browned over. It's really not that difficult to order in salad and cut it right before you serve it. But the salad hardly had any beets at all. Next was schnitzel. That was cooked very good. The meat itself was a little bit tough like it had been frozen. Other than that, it would've been superior. In a little bowl next to it with some kind of pasta with cheese bits in it. As my wife had mentioned, and I agreed it looked like it was pasta that was just destroyed into little pieces and then cheese mixed in. Doesn't look good. We could tell that the chef tried to do a good job with it, but the way it was presented was the bad part. Now let's get to the worst part of it. The red Kraut didn't taste good at all and it's like it had no seasoning at all. We didn't even eat more than a bite out of it. It wasn't worth having. The regular sauerkraut that we had on the other side of the plate had no caraway seeds no seasoning it just tasted like pickled cabbage and sour. Although that may sort of be like what it's supposed to be like it's a restaurant and I'll be honest and I'm not saying this to be mean but I could get better out of a jar. That plate should not come with sauerkraut. It should come with fries that are cut in the kitchen right before it's prepared. The other dishes that we saw on the menu were not very fantastic at all. We didn't have the burger, but I would keep that on the menu. So really needs to sit down with the menu and not just think that you need to have German food but you need to do a competitive analysis because you need to know what the restaurants are serving that are surviving like downtown. German food generally has a real issue in the United States surviving and if you don't get this menu right you're gonna wind up going out of business. I would bet you're losing thousands every month right now. I know you don't wanna see this as a review, but I'm trying to save you. The reason why I'm trying to save you is because I could tell that the chef did some things right that I don't often come across like preparing stuff the right way, like the pretzel and the schnitzel. That told me you have some talent back there. I would also put something in between the bar area and the eating area and I would also change the benches out and put some kind of tables. Yes, I'm German and I get the tables, but this is America and I'm sure you're trying to make money. I've been wanting to come here for a while and finally made the time to come and enjoy some drinks + beer food with my friend. The atmosphere is perfect to watch games at, decompress after work with coworkers/friends, or a nice casual dinner night with the fam. There is a variety of seating throughout the restaurant. You've got the bar top, high top tables, 4 top tables, and bench tables for large groups. Our server, forgot his name, frequently checked in on us. Yet, women being women catching up we had to keep saying give us a few mins. Haha! We appreciated his diligence in trying to serve us and getting food into our bellies. I ordered the Haus Fries which the cheese oddly reminded me of In N Out's animal style fries sauce (HUGE FAN btw). Fries were meh and I had to ask for extra cheese. I came here during my lunch break for happy hour because I wanted to try the food but didn't want to pay full price. I love that they offer that happy hour option around here! I tried the jumbo pretzel and jager fries. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time. I had high expectations for the pretzel, but I think I'm just used to American style pretzels. I do see why it pairs well with beer. The outside had more of a bread crust taste and texture, but the inside was pretty plain and not as soft and fluffy as I prefer. The jager fries were definitely the better option. The fries are thick enough that you can taste the potato and the toppings and sauce were sooo good. The sauce reminded me of beef stroganoff, which made it really comforting and flavorful. I would definitely get these again. Visiting Elk Grove for both a soccer tournament and a Yelp event, I stopped in here for a dinner with the family. While I wouldn't call it the most family friendly - limited front outdoor seating and inside quite loud when somewhat full, it was still a solid meal. And to note: they do offer a kids meal with crayons - so yes, kid friendly. Some great beer options, the kids meal was solid with a little burger and fries. What a disappointment for such a long-anticipated visit. My family came for the Mother's Day brunch on 5/9 and unfortunately nothing went right. I ordered the chicken schnitzel with over hard eggs and a side of fruit. The schnitzel came out visibly burned and overcooked, and my eggs were over easy instead. My husband ordered the pork schnitzel with over easy eggs and a side of fries, but received over hard eggs instead. He lucked out that his schnitzel wasn't burned. My son ordered the veggie scramble with a side of fruit and received potatoes instead. My passion fruit cocktail was unpleasant enough that I didn't want to risk ordering anything else off the drink menu. So I tried the Foggy Day and their two Pilsner on tap (don't know the names of the beer since the servers just go by number on the menu, LOL ) After those tastings, I decided on their Foggy Day which was just a bit heavier than a pilsner but had a nice refreshing citrus finish. We did order the Pretzel which was huge, light & doughy, easily shareable, and not overly salted; but anyone who knows me that's a nice snack. Our conversation and beer went by quick, so my buddy was out the door to his daughter's next event of the afternoon. Hopefully my next visit will be longer to out their brunch menu. First the good: The drinks were excellent. The beers are from local and/or well known international brands so it was a pleasure to drink. The cocktails are all whimsical and delicious. Each cocktail is unique and made strong so well worth the higher prices. The food is great. We had the risotto chicken caprice and the haus burger made medium rare. Both plates were satisfying and well made. The chicken was juicy and the risotto was cooked perfectly. The burger was flavorful and filling. The ambience in the restaurant was really nice. It's a community/semi private setting. We didn't mind it. The building is a historical building so inside was really special. The service speed was excellent. Food came out fast, drinks came out fast, and service was attentive. A++ Now on to the part that felt off: Server provided the check and the tip was preset to 25%....i almost signed off and realized wait, that's a whole $30 dollars more. So I set the custom tip to 15% as my usual and paid. I didn't like that preset part. Overall a good experience. Just a small mixup that didn't take away from the experience. Really like the atmosphere here. The service is always top notch. They don't have a very extensive menu but everything always tastes good. They usually have a few German authentic German beers in top. This time I tried the pork chops which was a special and the croquets. My wife had the shepherds pie. Throughout all my interactions with the staff they have been amazing from event planning to day of service Prost has gone above and beyond. When I got there for drinks, I have always enjoyed my trip. Food has been on point and have enjoyed the cocktails that they offer. I like to try out their specials and have found some new drinks that I enjoy more often Location: Prost is located on Elk Grove Blvd in Old Town Elk Grove. They do have a parking lot next to them as well another parking lot across the street next to the coffee shop. Sometimes it can be busy but I haven't had to ever travel very far for parking. Of course as popular as this place is, it can get LOUD but I consider that a positive and I have been able to get a place to seat everytime. One of my friends recommended this place for their hamburger. My wife loves a good hamburger so we tried it out. The place is in old Elk Grove and the street is really busy. I didn't see that they had their own parking lot. There is a lot next door but I thought it was another business' . We got a spot on the street close to the place anyway. It's a two story building. There are steps to get inside but they do have a ramp on the side. Inside we were greeted and they sat us at a table up front. The place is a good size. There was another table with a large group in the corner. It has a long bar to the left and a row of really big tables for large groups. Thus the beer hall name. I didn't go to the back but they were having a sewing or crochet glass in the back which was unique. I am not sure if the upstairs is theirs's too. The waitress came up to us and I told her that we have never been here and what was good to order. She recommended the Haus plate, Haus burger and the pretzel. The wife got the burger. She got it with the potato salad. The burger was good but they over salted it. The potato salad wasn't her favorite it had something in it that gave it a weird flavor, plug it was a bit dry. I got the Haus plate, with pork Schnitzel , mashed potatoes and Jager gravy. You could of got the buttered Spatzle as a choice. I loved the Schnitzel. It was cooked perfectly and great flavor. Where I messed up was not checking out the menu ahead of time.... turns out the food just wasn't what we were in the mood for. That said, the inside was kind of a vibe. They had a trivia event going on, which was a cool touch, but the audio wasn't great so it was hard to really enjoy it. My rate is a 4.5 stars. This is the place to go if you want to try German food. The food and service is pretty good. The staff are friendly. They serve lunch and dinner everyday and brunch on the weekends. Brunch starts at 10am. They have a happy hour, I'm not sure on the hours, I think it's 3pm - 5pm. I'm not sure on the start time, but I do know it ends at 5pm. Parking, is street parking, that I know. I did ask their parking situation. They said there is parking on the side alley and a public parking lot down the way. I'm not sure. I would have to look for it. The times that we came here, we tried the ribs, Prost burger, pork schnitzel, French fries, cottage pie, and the apple strudel. The ribs tasted good, but maybe a just a little bit dry. The ribs did have good flavor. The burger was good, but was a bit overly salty. It was juicy and cooked well. I really like their French Fries, but again, there was a lot of salt on them. The fries were crispy, not oily, had a good firmness, good amount of potato in one stick, fresh, and hot. I'm not a fan of skinny fries, those aren't fries. I like their crispy and potatoes. We really liked their schnitzel and cottage pie. Both tasted really good. The cottage pie was a ground beef stew with carrots and peas, with a bed of mash potatoes on top. The stew was full of flavor. It was so nice to have on a rainy day. The only thing that threw me off was that the mashed potatoes were room temp. I was thinking it would be hot. Maybe, they did it that way to hold its shape for the design on top. It was still good, though. The stew part was hot, so I dipped the potatoes in the stew to heat it up. We came with a small group of five to catch up with some friends visiting from out of town. It was our first experience at Prost, and we had really been looking forward to coming in. There's street parking, and we were able to find some spots a bit further down on School Street. One of our group members was able to get a table for us and we ended up at one of the larger round tables. The space is pretty open and had bar seating as well as table seating. We learned that they were celebrating their two year anniversary which was fun, and they had some deals on certain beers, cocktails, merch and pretzels. Unfortunately, they didn't have their full food menu available but we ended up ordering a couple pretzels and their fries. The service was a bit slow, and we had a couple minor miscommunications throughout our experience- nothing big, just an incorrectly sized drink and a little extra time waiting on the food items. It was a special event day, so I'd have to visit again to see what the norm is. The pretzels we ordered with a good size and very tasty, they also give you plenty of beer cheese. We did enjoy the beer cheese better mixed with mustard though. The fries were a nice cut and crispy too. The beer was cold and delicious- they offer it in 10oz, 16oz and a liter as options. We were accidentally given a 10oz instead of 16oz originally and the 10 oz is such a little baby pour- it was adorable. It was the first time for all of us and we actually had no idea it was German food until we looked at the menu. The inside was clean and had a great vibe! We all agreed that the pretzel was the best we've ever had - it was warm and soft with the perfect amount of salt and the beer cheese - chef's kiss! Jamie and David have done a phenomenal job with this place. It has been through so many changes through the years and finally it's found it's spot. The drinks are all fantastic and the beer selection is something you'd find only at a brewery or tap house. David isn't afraid to put new and exciting varieties on the menu. When I first walked in, it felt like an upscale pub. We had a reservation so we were sat right away. I immediately loved that the main dinner menu was only one page, and was drawn to ordering a burger for my dinner. Our table started off with the burrata and the jager fries. Absolutely loved the tomatoes and the capers in the burrata. The acidity and saltiness really balanced out the cheese. The crostinis didn't quite last long enough to finish the dish, but everything else with the salad had so much flavor I was eating it by the fork-full after the crostinis were gone. Fries were thicker and softer than what I'm used to, but I think it went nicely with pepper jack, onions and gravy. They didn't feel overloaded with toppings, so the fries maintained their quality for a lot longer. My burger was juicy, bacon crispy and garnish fresh. The portion was manageable and the side salad option was nice since I already had fries. We couldn't pick between the two desserts so we got both, and I was so glad we did. The crème brûlée had a perfect crust with such a delicious delicate cookie on the side. I don't know what kind it was, but I was having a hard time making it last for the whole dessert. Maybe try asking for two if you order it! Lastly, the strudel was so soft and easy to eat. The apple was just what I needed to welcome in the rest of the holiday season. I ordered the Pork Schnitzel which was as tough as the leather soles on my old Bass Weejuns. Very thin cutlet, heavily coated with crumbs and fried for way too long in their fryer. Had family over and my German step Dad wanted to try this place. I have never had German food so the only food item that looked like Might like was the Risotto. It was good. I'd recommend it. My daughter got the chicken strips and fries. Pretty basic. She said it was good. My stepdad and mom shared there dish of Haus Fries, and had the pickled sampler dis. The pickled sampler dish was ok. i really only liked the green beans and bellpeppers. The egg didnt taste like anything. But that is preference.My cousin got a Huas plate everyhthing was great except the schnzitel. that was left on the plate. The meat look like a pork chop as the meat was not pounded thin as so my critc step dad said. The server was friendly and very attentive. The ambience is good with 2 tvs to watch and a bar. Would come here again for food no. But maybe for a beer and game at the bar. read more

Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon at 2:40pm and was informed that the kitchen stops cooking food from 3-4pm, but will still have pretzels available. Service was good, restaurant was clean and spacious. A lot of unused space. We ordered an entire bottle of mimosa with two juices: pomegranate and pineapple. One side of fries and two pretzels. Everything was good. Would come back to try the rest of the items from the menu. read more
