I was looking for a causal place that serviced decent food. This placed seems to have what I was hoping for, however felt short. Placed looks very spacious they also have some outdoor seating. Service was great the waitress was very helpful and friendly. She came by several times to check on us. Food- giant pretzel was good nice and soft & cheese was good perfect for my drink an Apple cider. Now other food we order was not that great. Beets salad with chicken. Chicken was dry, barely any beets, & dressing on salad the worst. The chicken pasta honestly I don't know how that was supposed to taste, very bland. Stopped here for lunch and had a great experience. During World Cup so a little loud, but a fun time. Not sure how noisy it gets outside of sporting events. Great happy hour! Tuesday through Friday 2-5! We all love a good happy hour. Get the pretzel!!!! That's some of the best cheese I've ever had with a pretzel! Look at the size next to hand. Visiting Elk Grove for both a soccer tournament and a Yelp event, I stopped in here for a dinner with the family. While I wouldn't call it the most family friendly - limited front outdoor seating and inside quite loud when somewhat full, it was still a solid meal. And to note: they do offer a kids meal with crayons - so yes, kid friendly. Some great beer options, the kids meal was solid with a little burger and fries. The big pretzel was delicious and came with a copious amount of beer cheese and a side of mustard. The schnitzel sandwich was solid. It wasn't my favorite per se, but my husband enjoyed it. We upgraded our side to a beet salad for an extra few bucks and it was a good idea, the salad was good! Overall, a great space for groups for beers and German forward eats. What a disappointment for such a long-anticipated visit. My family came for the Mother's Day brunch on 5/9 and unfortunately nothing went right. I ordered the chicken schnitzel with over hard eggs and a side of fruit. The schnitzel came out visibly burned and overcooked, and my eggs were over easy instead. My husband ordered the pork schnitzel with over easy eggs and a side of fries, but received over hard eggs instead. He lucked out that his schnitzel wasn't burned. My son ordered the veggie scramble with a side of fruit and received potatoes instead. My passion fruit cocktail was unpleasant enough that I didn't want to risk ordering anything else off the drink menu. Our waitress was friendly but clearly stretched too thin to catch any of these errors. First the good: The drinks were excellent. The beers are from local and/or well known international brands so it was a pleasure to drink. The cocktails are all whimsical and delicious. Each cocktail is unique and made strong so well worth the higher prices. The food is great. We had the risotto chicken caprice and the haus burger made medium rare. Both plates were satisfying and well made. The chicken was juicy and the risotto was cooked perfectly. The burger was flavorful and filling. The ambience in the restaurant was really nice. It's a community/semi private setting. We didn't mind it. The building is a historical building so inside was really special. The service speed was excellent. Food came out fast, drinks came out fast, and service was attentive. A++ Now on to the part that felt off: Server provided the check and the tip was preset to 25%....i almost signed off and realized wait, that's a whole $30 dollars more. So I set the custom tip to 15% as my usual and paid. I didn't like that preset part. Overall a good experience. Just a small mixup that didn't take away from the experience. We came for a little Mother's Day brunch and the food was delicious, the service was great, and eating on the little patio outside was lovely. They don't have gluten free bread options, but have several gluten-free dishes like the pork and veggie skillet. So good! My family loved the giant pretzel and the French toast. Throughout all my interactions with the staff they have been amazing from event planning to day of service Prost has gone above and beyond. When I got there for drinks, I have always enjoyed my trip. Food has been on point and have enjoyed the cocktails that they offer. I like to try out their specials and have found some new drinks that I enjoy more often Location: Prost is located on Elk Grove Blvd in Old Town Elk Grove. They do have a parking lot next to them as well another parking lot across the street next to the coffee shop. Sometimes it can be busy but I haven't had to ever travel very far for parking. Of course as popular as this place is, it can get LOUD but I consider that a positive and I have been able to get a place to seat everytime. One of my friends recommended this place for their hamburger. My wife loves a good hamburger so we tried it out. The place is in old Elk Grove and the street is really busy. I didn't see that they had their own parking lot. There is a lot next door but I thought it was another business' . We got a spot on the street close to the place anyway. It's a two story building. There are steps to get inside but they do have a ramp on the side. Inside we were greeted and they sat us at a table up front. The place is a good size. There was another table with a large group in the corner. It has a long bar to the left and a row of really big tables for large groups. Thus the beer hall name. I didn't go to the back but they were having a sewing or crochet glass in the back which was unique. I am not sure if the upstairs is theirs's too. The waitress came up to us and I told her that we have never been here and what was good to order. She recommended the Haus plate, Haus burger and the pretzel. The wife got the burger. She got it with the potato salad. The burger was good but they over salted it. The potato salad wasn't her favorite it had something in it that gave it a weird flavor, plug it was a bit dry. I got the Haus plate, with pork Schnitzel , mashed potatoes and Jager gravy. You could of got the buttered Spatzle as a choice. I loved the Schnitzel. It was cooked perfectly and great flavor. Jamie and David have done a phenomenal job with this place. It has been through so many changes through the years and finally it's found it's spot. The drinks are all fantastic and the beer selection is something you'd find only at a brewery or tap house. David isn't afraid to put new and exciting varieties on the menu. I'm gonna put a lot of the blame on myself for this one. My friends and I were leaving an event and looking for a spot nearby to grab food. I found this place on Yelp and figured we'd give it a try. Where I messed up was not checking out the menu ahead of time.... turns out the food just wasn't what we were in the mood for. That said, the inside was kind of a vibe. They had a trivia event going on, which was a cool touch, but the audio wasn't great so it was hard to really enjoy it. The service was okay.. they were kinda busy, and to be honest, we kind of stuck out like a sore thumb. It didn't exactly feel like the most welcoming atmosphere, but we made the best of it. We ordered a few things, and out of everything we tried, the pretzel was definitely the standout. That thing was bomb. Will I be back? Probably not. It just wasn't my type of spot. My rate is a 4.5 stars. This is the place to go if you want to try German food. The food and service is pretty good. The staff are friendly. They serve lunch and dinner everyday and brunch on the weekends. Brunch starts at 10am. They have a happy hour, I'm not sure on the hours, I think it's 3pm - 5pm. I'm not sure on the start time, but I do know it ends at 5pm. Parking, is street parking, that I know. I did ask their parking situation. They said there is parking on the side alley and a public parking lot down the way. I'm not sure. I would have to look for it. The times that we came here, we tried the ribs, Prost burger, pork schnitzel, French fries, cottage pie, and the apple strudel. The ribs tasted good, but maybe a just a little bit dry. The ribs did have good flavor. The burger was good, but was a bit overly salty. It was juicy and cooked well. I really like their French Fries, but again, there was a lot of salt on them. The fries were crispy, not oily, had a good firmness, good amount of potato in one stick, fresh, and hot. I'm not a fan of skinny fries, those aren't fries. I like their crispy and potatoes. We really liked their schnitzel and cottage pie. Both tasted really good. The cottage pie was a ground beef stew with carrots and peas, with a bed of mash potatoes on top. The stew was full of flavor. It was so nice to have on a rainy day. The only thing that threw me off was that the mashed potatoes were room temp. I was thinking it would be hot. Maybe, they did it that way to hold its shape for the design on top. It was still good, though. The stew part was hot, so I dipped the potatoes in the stew to heat it up. The apple strudel dessert was pretty good too. It was a little warm with fresh whipped cream. Our experiences here, were all pretty good. I would like to come back and try their brunch. read more

I ordered drinks while I waited for the happy hour prices to kick in for food to save a few bucks. Service was attentive & allowed me to try a few samples of cider & beer before making my selection. 10/10 - Croquettes: these were addicting! I ended up order 2 orders because they were sooooo yummy. I'd come back just for these. 7/10 - Sausage in a Bun with Jager Fries: I opted for a bratwurst sausage which had a nice bite, but the mustard seed did overpower the flavors of the bratwurst; I upgraded to jager fries which were okay in flavor, nothing special. We came with a small group of five to catch up with some friends visiting from out of town. It was our first experience at Prost, and we had really been looking forward to coming in. There's street parking, and we were able to find some spots a bit further down on School Street. One of our group members was able to get a table for us and we ended up at one of the larger round tables. The space is pretty open and had bar seating as well as table seating. We learned that they were celebrating their two year anniversary which was fun, and they had some deals on certain beers, cocktails, merch and pretzels. Unfortunately, they didn't have their full food menu available but we ended up ordering a couple pretzels and their fries. The service was a bit slow, and we had a couple minor miscommunications throughout our experience- nothing big, just an incorrectly sized drink and a little extra time waiting on the food items. It was a special event day, so I'd have to visit again to see what the norm is. The pretzels we ordered with a good size and very tasty, they also give you plenty of beer cheese. We did enjoy the beer cheese better mixed with mustard though. The fries were a nice cut and crispy too. The beer was cold and delicious- they offer it in 10oz, 16oz and a liter as options. We were accidentally given a 10oz instead of 16oz originally and the 10 oz is such a little baby pour- it was adorable. We came on trivia night which was entertaining! You can tell it's a popular place for Elk Grove locals! We ordered the Half Caesar Salad, Haus Fries and Pretzel. Everything was so good! We all agreed that the pretzel was the best we've ever had - it was warm and soft with the perfect amount of salt and the beer cheese - chef's kiss! The salad was great too and huge for a half portion - we also really liked the fries! Staff were friendly and attentive! When I first walked in, it felt like an upscale pub. We had a reservation so we were sat right away. I immediately loved that the main dinner menu was only one page, and was drawn to ordering a burger for my dinner. Our table started off with the burrata and the jager fries. Absolutely loved the tomatoes and the capers in the burrata. The acidity and saltiness really balanced out the cheese. The crostinis didn't quite last long enough to finish the dish, but everything else with the salad had so much flavor I was eating it by the fork-full after the crostinis were gone. Fries were thicker and softer than what I'm used to, but I think it went nicely with pepper jack, onions and gravy. They didn't feel overloaded with toppings, so the fries maintained their quality for a lot longer. My burger was juicy, bacon crispy and garnish fresh. The portion was manageable and the side salad option was nice since I already had fries. We couldn't pick between the two desserts so we got both, and I was so glad we did. The crème brûlée had a perfect crust with such a delicious delicate cookie on the side. I don't know what kind it was, but I was having a hard time making it last for the whole dessert. Maybe try asking for two if you order it! Lastly, the strudel was so soft and easy to eat. The apple was just what I needed to welcome in the rest of the holiday season. This place is tough to review. I've given it four tries now, and each time I'm disappointed. I have a lot of experience eating and making food from the DACH region and honestly am not TOO picky, since I love it so much. But I have a hard time here. There are some darn good qualities though, hence the three stars: Service- Always been fantastic. Whether you're at the bar or a table, everyone is kind, helpful, and willing to answer your questions about fod/drink. Always deserving of a great tip. Drinks- OUTstanding selection and really great cocktails. I've been inspired to try some of the ingredients they use and play with them at home. The drinks are what brought me back so many times (along with my hope for a different food experience). Atmosphere- Fun! not much else to say. I love the setup and it's fun with a group. Really good energy. The little patio is a great place to enjoy a drink. Food- this is where I struggle ): I do not go to German places domestically expecting the Schnitzel or Sausages I had in Vienna or in my own home. That's unreasonable, and I set my expectations accordingly. What I can't forgive, however, is bad oil. This was a problem every. single. time. I've gone here. Each time I try it, it is overcooked and dry, too thick, and tastes of old, musty oil. It's honestly shocking how consistent of a problem that's been. Anything fried in the oil- even the croquettes that, on paper, should be delicious, has the same problem. For schnitzel at least, or any other breaded/fried German-adjacent foods, there are better restaurants around (German Guys in stockton, La Trattoria Bohemia in Sac, Himmel Haus in South Lake, and Brotzeit in Oakland are all great). Also, the sausages are unremarkable, and you could do better at Midtown Biergarten. There ARE some good foods here- the pickles are great and the appetizer serving is generous, and I really enjoy the pretzel. The kasespatzle is also pretty darn tastyl. And the topped fries are lovely if you order them extra crispy. And you know what? I'd even have another bite of the schnitzel if someone at my table got it. That's how much I WANT to like this place. Overall: I'd return if a group of friends invited me. And since the weather has improved, I do think about going back to sit on the patio, eat a pretzel, and try one of their awesome seasonal drinks. I don't think I'd go back though for a full meal though. Prost team- if you read these, PLEASE investigate your oil problem I want good schnitzel without a huge drive. read more

It's good food but not very authentic. Schnitzel is supposed to be pounded to within an inch of it's life so it almost covers the whole plate & smothered with mushroom gravy. The pounding insures tender schnitzel. Both versions (pork & chicken) were way too thick & tough & there was hardly any gravy. The spaetzle was good although it was almost like it had been sitting out a while, dry & not enough butter. I also had to salt it which I rarely do in restaurants. It's probably good for the beer & apps but if you want authentic German food, this ain't it. read more

Had family over and my German step Dad wanted to try this place. I have never had German food so the only food item that looked like Might like was the Risotto. It was good. I'd recommend it. My daughter got the chicken strips and fries. Pretty basic. She said it was good. My stepdad and mom shared there dish of Haus Fries, and had the pickled sampler dis. The pickled sampler dish was ok. i really only liked the green beans and bellpeppers. The egg didnt taste like anything. But that is preference.My cousin got a Huas plate everyhthing was great except the schnzitel. that was left on the plate. Prost is one of my favorite places to visit in the Elk Grove area. It's out go to for the espresso martinis, pretzel, and fries. The service is pretty good and everyone is very friendly. The great service, friendly people, great and consistent food/drinks is what always keeps us coming back! Sometimes it can get loud inside depending on how busy it is but it doesn't bother us much because you can still have a conversation with your party. I think the building itself just echos noise. They also turn on the games when they're on however there is no sound. Partly because I think is because I can get very loud in there. Although the espresso martinis are amazing, the one gripe that I have is that they aren't consistent between bartenders. Some make them creamier than others. The gentleman who frequently wears a hat makes them the best (sorry I forgot his name). But other than that we love Prost! read more

This is right off Elk Grove Blvd in the heart of Old Elk Grove. The beer cheese dip hit the savory notes just right and meshed well with the warm, saltiness of the pretzel. The pretzel stayed pretty well warm for a while after it got to our table. My SIAB was very delicious and I would order it again. The sauerkraut and mustard seed complement the banger very well and they topped it off just enough. The banger was savory enough, but not too overpowering and the pretzel bun was warm and soft. Just a great mesh of flavors and texture. Service: man, the service was great that night. We got checked up on frequently enough to get our waters refilled and get more pours of beers at different times. I totally love this place and also appreciate the fact that the owners took it over and renovated it as it was much needed in Old Town EG. We came in for a drink or two. We Decided to sit at the bar since we had already had dinner. Every single bartender at the bar was efficient friendly and super nice which we loved.
