Great service, drinks, food! Loved the fried green beans and Brussel sprouts. The chicken and short rib scrumptious. I preferred the short rib over the chicken. The sauce that came with the Chicken didn't do it any favors. It was better without. I wished the chicken and cornbread was served with some honey! Maybe next time I'll bring my own spicy honey. For dessert the butterscotch pear and S'more chocolate ganache cake. Both yummy and left our table divided on which was the best. The only complaint about the s'more desert was the density of the ganache. Maybe because it was on the colder side but we had a rather rough time cutting to serve. I'm not in Concord often but my companies main corporate office is across the street and I'm glad I ended up trying this place for lunch. It looked like a cool spot for authentic german beers but being at work I just opted for a jaeger schnitzel meal this time. The server working was friendly and following covid safety protocols and brought me some soft fresh bread while I waited but the food was ready quickly. It was already affordable so I opted for the full size meal and not the 1 schnitzel version and omg it was enough food for 2 hungry people(I saved half for dinner later). It came with 2 giant schnitzels over mushroom gravy, spaetzle, purple cabbage, and a pickle. The schnitzels were each torso sized and juicy inside with a light crispy katsu esque batter and since the gravy was underneath and not on top I had the option of having it jaeger schnitzel style mixed in the gravy or just hitting it with a lemon squeeze for a standard schnitzel. The spaetzle noodles were fluffy and buttery and mixed with alot of delicious bacon and the purple cabbage tasty and a healthy addition to an otherwise coma inducing meal. Was very delighted to stumble across a German restaurant in concord. I wanted to find a local business that offered outdoor dining, something new. Ive eaten a lot of great food all over Germany during my travels there and this place was good!! The schnitzel was tender, juicy, crispy and not oily at all. It was on top of a mushroom cream sauce that didn't over power the schnitzel, it complimented it perfectly. It was such a huge portion of meat, I couldn't even finish it and barely put a dent in it (and i was starving!). The entree came with either soup or salad and I chose soup. The chicken potato soup was perfect to eat on a cold rainy night and was very yummy with the complimentary bread and butter. I'm excited to eat there again to try the other items on the menu. I was sad that they didn't have mashed potato's because that's what I wanted to eat. It's located in a strip mall type place across from grocery outlet, next to a Peruvian chicken restaurant. There's a tent in front of their entrance so we didn't see it when we first drove in. Outdoor dining is an option and at night it's dark but they bring out a little lamp for the table. I first here years ago when they were featured on check please Bay Area the TV show and then they were excellent. My family is German we eat most of the items on this menu many times a year. I had a ton of friends with me this time. We were the only table in the restaurant seven of us and the server seemed like he couldn't wait to get home yet somehow managed to have slow service. I ordered the sauerbraten and I know it said Czechoslovakian sauerbraten not German sauerbraten but I mean you served it was served with whipped cream and I think canned cherries (like the red ones? It was Reminiscent of little square of dessert like stuff they give you with turkey TV dinner) I mean we usually use some kind of cranberry type side and some sour cream perhaps to cut the richness of the meat and gravy but this had me completely confused. There was nothing tender about the meat at all. This dish is when you take a cheap piece of meat and you cook it slow and low for days so it's so fork tender. This was not and it was lacking sour. Also, my friends schnitzel and chicken were poorly executed But I can see why people who haven't had other actual German food might enjoy it. It was nothing like it was when I went the first time with the original owners. Someone needs to get their Oma in there and reteach them. I will say that the Apple strudel was pretty comparable to home. The ambiance was pleasant as I remembered. I really don't like giving low stars so I give it a two I probably would've done a three if the service was better but because he seemed so bored to be there I had to keep it at two. Nice European cuisine in Concord. We had three dishes: the Weiner Schnitzel, Jaeger Schnitzel, and Bavarian meatloaf. The Weiner Schnitzel had a nice crunchy breading and the pork was juicy and tender. It came with a side order of potato salad, which was flavorful. The Jaeger Schnitzel was my particularly favorite. I loved the crunchy breading and the tender and juicy pork, but the mushroom sauce gave the pork cutlet an absolute amazing dimension of flavor. Squeezed a little bit of lemon to balance out the saltiness of the pork cutlet. This dish was served with a side of potato salad, pickled cabbage, and spaetzle. The potato salad was flavorful, loved the nice acidity and creaminess of the potatoes. The red cabbage was sweet and had a nice texture. The spaetzle were little dumplings that looked like some kind of pasta with bacon. It reminded me of macaroni. It had a nice flavor with the bacon. The Bavarian meatloaf was okay. It was a little bit dry, but the mushroom sauce helped keep it moist and flavorful. It was served with sauerkraut and red cabbage. It also came with a green salad, which was okay. If you have been following my reviews, you know that I host a monthly dinner of 24 to 36 people as part of the activities for SIR's, a retired mens' group. We have been coming here for many years and it is very popular among our members and their wives. The food is good as is the service and the portions are humongous. It's not gourmet quality but it's healthy, nicely prepared and presented at really affordable prices. And, we always felt welcome. For this place, I limit the size of the group to 20 because of the size of the place. I always get the Weiner Schnitzel and my wife always gets the Jaeger Schnitzel. Those two items are the most popular in our group. Also popular are the Duck and Grilled Brats. On our last visit last week, we had 19 folks. The portions are still ridiculously huge! And the prices are still a real bargain. On the Schnitzels, a single order (1 large cutlet) is just $12.95 and the double order (2 large cutlets) is just $15.95. I had the Weiner Schitzel, ate half of it and brought the rest home for at least another meal or two. Ditto for my wife. So, the price is a real bargain. I've noticed that the quality of the food has slipped just a little. And this time, they didn't give us individual checks for each couple as I have requested and they have done over the many years. This choice was definitely by random but I'm glad I gave it a try. My friends and I were going to meet up in Martinez for an event but we stopped here for lunch before hand. I love Oktoberfest, bratwurst, sauerkraut, and German beers, but that's basically the most I know about their food/culture. Environment - Very nice and cozy. The lady who was our waitress (possibly the owner?) was very nice and friendly. Food - The bread was AMAZING. We went to town on the bread and butter that comes out in the beginning. Friends who normally doesn't like carbs or breads ate double than they normally would. We got the Jagerschnitzel, Bavarian Chicken Breast, Pork Loins Special, and German Goulash special. Out of everything, I enjoyed the Bavarian Chicken Breast the most. It was breaded and fried. It came with a side of potato salad and pickled cabbage. The chicken was moist and tender. The Jagerschnitzel I would rate it as second best, then the German Goulash Special. The German Goulash Special was basically like a stewed beef with lots of sauce. The Pork Loins Special was dry in some parts - overall very underwhelming. It came with a side of very plain mashed potatoes. Portions are definitely nice and hearty. We all left with bellies big and full. Overall - I would come back if I was ever in town again. I still have some leftovers that I'm ready to finish in the fridge. I live in Los Angeles for my birthday. I decided to drive to Northern California to see some family and to have some German food at my favorite German or European restaurant in California. I've been here many times before the service has always been horrendous. The food has always been excellent. The schnitzel is fantastic. Potato salad is fantastic Soups fantastic and beer fantastic, so why am I going to go ahead and give a very strong negative review unfortunately service service service made a reservation arrived early for my reservation. Waited patiently with my group of friends. We were seated and sat. Waiting for over 20 minutes for anyone to come near us and take a drink order we placed a drink order and ordered our food didn't see anything for over 20 minutes, so this makes 40 minutes at a table no drinks no bread The drinks were brought to our table and the person who brought Drinks told us they didn't work in the restaurant, but they were helping out At this time we've been seated for over 45 minutes. No sign of food sat waiting patiently for another 20 minutes then I asked the rude waitress where a food wars was told it's coming. I asked three more times in the following 20 minutes was told rudely each time it's coming now we're almost 1 hour and 30 minutes Sitting at the table no bread no food the final time I asked the waitress I was told it's coming I said OK we will cancel the order DAN I got some response from her saying well let me check let's see what happening I told her no it's been an hour and 30 minutes we have no food we are leaving We asked for the check to pay for our drinks and left. This was horrendous treatment of a customer the owner was in the restaurant, but didn't feel they should come and apologize a couple of questions. Why seat to people if you can't serve them another question is the price increase is extraordinary Schnitzel is $25. Now this is a really good portion two pieces and it comes with a side again I can't complain about the food which is excellent. The price is ludicrous if used to be 16 or $17 about a year ago they've increased it to $25 on the worst service I've ever experienced. I have to say there is a lady who works there who is a slightly older European lady who's super kind and friendly, I've never had an issue with this nice person but I've always had an issue with the waitress working on Saturday who happens to be Asian and I wanna point out my wife and son are Asian horrible horrible service it saddens me I will never go back to this restaurant again I pretty much drove from LA to have a birthday dinner there and I was treated like shit read more

Review #146 - 2019 Perhaps the fact that I've never had German food before made this meal a little underwhelming & all the positive reviews set my expectations a little too high. My stepdad is German & he doesn't get to go out much so I was hoping to surprise him with a great German meal for Father's Day. I called in the previous day to RSVP for a table for 6 at 8 PM. We showed up about 10 minutes early on Sunday & there were quite a few people waiting out front so I assumed that the place was crowded; but luckily, it was just everyone getting ready to leave. We walked in and everyone, including the staffs, stared at us oddly like we were some type of strange looking people. No "hello!" or "how can we help you?" After a few minutes we told the waitress that we had a reservation & she sat us. Unfortunately, my stepdad couldn't make it because he had eye surgery a few days before so we ended up ordering a jaeger schnitzel take out for him, which he never commented on, so I assume he didn't really enjoy it too much. My nephew got the jaeger schnitzel to eat there & I got to taste a bite & didn't think it was anything special. Just very bland breaded fried pork loin. My older brother & I both ordered their special, the pork knee, which was also very bland and had lots of fat. I probably ate about a third of it & ended up with a major headache later that evening. The portion was actually very generous so my brother & I should've just shared an order instead of ordering two & not finishing either one. My son had the duckling, which was honestly the best dish out of all our orders. It at least had some flavor. It definitely wasn't the best duck I've had, but still edible. The soup of the day was some type of beef ball soup & it too was bland so I couldn't even get my 3-year old to help me eat it. DJ's Bistro... the wife and I heard of this place when we first moved to the East Bay two years ago. However, I think the name of the restaurant is what kept us from coming since it hardly sounds German. In fact, it kind of sounds dare-I-say-it(?) French. I have a suggestion, they need to throw an ümlaut into their name for däs aüthenticity. DJ's Biströ. We came in on a Sunday and was served by the loveliest German lady. Turns out her name is Hännäh and she is one half of the husband/wife tandem that runs the restaurant. She is definitely the one captaining this ship. Maybe the restaurant should be called Hännäh's Biströ? Her husband is Jerry and he is Czech. She is the Spaten and he is the Pilsner Urquell. Ironically, that is how we ordered our draft beers. Growing up in SoCal and seeing all the A-framed Wienerschnitzel hot dog chains, I always thought wienerschnitzel meant hot dog because you know, wieners!!! Turns out that wiener is actually a German term for "of Vienna" and somehow what should have been Viener became wiener. I guess this makes some of the best classical music "wiener" music lol. Back to the topic, a true wiener schnitzel happens to be a flat piece of meat cutlet that is breaded and fried. DJ's Biströ does their schnitzels German-style by using pork instead of veal. We ordered the jager schnitzel which is served with a mushroom gravy, pickled cabbage, and spaetzle. The minute Jerry brought it out, I was like wow, schnitzel looks like Japanese tonkatsu! The gravy and red cabbage complimented the schnitzel and the spaetzle, which is egg noodle cooked with bacon fat, was really good. We also ordered the Hungarian goulash, which were these juicy beef chunks topped with a tangy paprika sauce and served with spaetzle that was very savory. While the restaurant is true to its biströ name and is small, the portions on the other hand are über hüge. Also, if Hännäh is there, be prepared for a vergnügen experience. Seriously, she was very personable and made us feel süper welcome. As we left she told us she'd see us next time, and yes, we will see her again to explore the rest of their menu. * They are closed on Mondays. * DJ's Biströ is hidden away in the blue strip mall with Tom's Crab Shack, a Mexican restaurant, and Laundromat. * Although they only have three beers on tap, they are classics and cheap at $5. Spaten, Pilsner Urquell, and Erdinger Weissbier. * Jager schnitzel is not made with jagermeister. Jager means "hunter" in German and I guess hunters liked mushroom gravy (the irony)... Came here today for a quick lunch with the clients, based upon their recommendation. I am so glad we asked for their recommendation, as I probably would never have tried DJ's Bistro otherwise. Unassuming looking establishment from both outside and within, this place has clearly been around for awhile and hides a locally known secret of delicious German food! During lunch when we arrived, this place was half empty, which worked out in our favor as there was only 1 lady acting as both the hostess and waitress for the entire establishment. The vast majority of us at the table ordered the Jaeger Schnitzel, which was a great choice and definitely satisfied our hungry cravings! You have your choice of the regular Schnitzel, which comes with 2 or 3 slabs of schnitzel, or the single Schnitzel. As well as your choice of either the potato salad, or the Jaeger (spaetzle and red cabbage). One of the team members ordered the chicken schnitzel, which did not have a single option, and when it arrived, it was a massive plate that had a 4 pieces of schnitzel on it. Although this happened on July 16,2022, I feeI that it's necessary to warn everyone about this place and to share my experience: I went to Dj's Bistro with my family. I have to say I am terribly disappointed in the service. We first learned about the place through an ad claiming that they had a 'Happy Hour', which started at 2:00 p.m. We arrived at the place around 2:30 and inquired about the happy hour. The waitress was confused about it. I continued to show her the website on my phone about her own restaurant's happy hour. She took my phone to the bar to show her husband then she came back to me and told me that the update version of the website with the happy hour was put up too early and starts on the following Tuesday (7/19/22), we were there on Friday, July 16,2022. When the waitress came back to take our order, I asked her about a picture of a dish that they sold , the knee of a pig, which then she informed me that they only sell it on Saturdays and Sundays. My two family members' ordered, as they already knew what they wanted, where I told the waitress that I had to look over the menu again to order something else. Then the waitress went back to the kitchen for their orders and went back out to the bar to complain to her husband. The waitress started crying and pointing over to our table , saying 'Oh they hate me! ...... " Her husband came over to us and said to me " my wife told me that you are mean to her. You said you hate her......"I told the husband I never said I hated her and all we wanted were answers to our questions about their foods and drinks. Then the husband asked if we had ordered yet, since I hadn't ordered yet, I told him that I would try the goulash. The husband went back to the bar, but the wife was still complaining about something and crying. All this just comes to show that the wife is hypersensitive or just likes attention so she seems like the victim. 10 minutes later my family members got their dishes, unlike me, fine since I had ordered after them, not a big deal. Terrible experience. Don't come here if you want to have a nice dinner. They first brought out 1 of our entrees significantly before the rest of our order (an appetizer and another entree). We basically sat and stared at it for at least 30 minutes waiting before we decided to ask about the appetizer and other entree . This did not go well. There were 3 of us at the table two of us ordered a glass of wine, she asked my husband what he wanted - I chimed in that I also wanted a glass of water, and she ran away and my husband never got his order out...Just kinda rude and pushy and weird!! The food is very good . I stopped in during a business trip to get a taste of home and they delivered on the taste portion. It was plenty food and definitely got what you paid for but the service wasn't the greatest. During my entire 1.5h stay in the restaurant I was never offered a refill on my drink I had to get the waitress attention several times. She also got my order wrong and had to remake my food. I'd say your kitchen is top notch but maybe talk to staff about smiling more and being more welcoming towards guests. read more

The beer is great , salad is fresh, and the food is so amazing that I get flashbacks when I've traveled to Barvaria (a state in Germany).
