Been going here for years!! One of the more traditional brunch spots in Orlando. The times we've gone the wait has been pretty long but it's in a chill, southern way. The food is good, nothing spectacular but perfect for a weekend brunch with family. The environment: Very welcoming and cozy. WIth a homey vibe, this cafe reminds me of my grandmothers house with its floral decors and handmade objects. With indoor and outdoor seating, I feel as though the better option would be inside in this Florida heat. Also, I love the parking here compared to other businesses in the area. The service: Everyone here so far seems to be sweet and accommodating to all patrons. They are quick to seat you and pretty quick with the food, even when busy. I wanted to share one of my dishes with my friend and they happily split it and plated it for us in the kitchen. The food: I have tried their omelette which I just customized myself, and it was pretty good. Nothing really unique about it but it was still really tasty. When opting for a sweet breakfast I tried their DC Waffle which is topped with dark chocolate sauce, coconut flakes, caramelized bananas, and whipped cream. It was really great and each bite is packed with rich goodness, however I found the whole thing to be a bit overwhelming. I am happy I split it because it would've been impossible to consume the entire thing. On the side I had their shoestring fries, which are REALLY GOOD, usually potatoes all taste the same however here the fries are really addicting! All in all, the food here is good compared to other joints like Keke's. When looking for a wide variety with a cozy vibe I would definitely recommend coming here. It never lets me down but for some reason I decided to try the club -- yuck! It had guacamole that was brown and tasted weird. Not sure how they can put that on a sandwich but they did!! I scrapped it off and tried to eat it but it just had a strange flavor/taste -- so -- I picked the turkey off and ate my fries (which I love, they have great fries!). My friend ordered an omelet and it look good. Very fluffy. She also ordered cheese grits but they brought her plain and they forgot to butter her over cooked English muffin. Service was ok as well. Early morning breakfast with the fam, and after a crazy weekend we wanted something relaxing. Came by Dixie Cream Cafe for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised to be seated immediately. The restaurant is quaint and cozy. The hostess was very pleasant and attentive to my little one's needs. Our server was nice, brought out our coffee, water and orange juice for the little one. She promptly took our order and disappeared. Not in a bad way but wish she came by since we wanted to add fruits to one of the dishes. She must've been tired. Let's talk about this amazing menu and definitely wanted to try everything but ended up ordered the smoked brisket hash with eggs, the little one ordered chocolate chip pancakes, scramble eggs and turkey sausage. We also ordered the smoked salmon platter and lots more but I did not try the other two dishes. The smoked brisket hash was delicious!!! Very flavorful, mixed with potatoes and an amazing crisp top! I can not begin to explain the mix of wonderful flavors in one bite! Eggs were perfectly cooked! Ohhhh the smoked salmon.....with homemade chive cream cheese heaven! Let's just say building this sandwich was a dream! Lovedddd it! My little one devoured her meal with no hesitation! 4 stars alone! We came here for Mother's Day and my mom left extremely happy, so 5 stars! I'm not a heavy coffee drinker so I didn't notice, but my mom is super picky about her coffee (I've seen the woman return a coffee 3 times before being satisfied) and she said that this was the best coffee she's had in a long time. She wants to come back already just for the coffee! The food was good as well. I had the French toast Nutella brioche on the specials menu and it was soooo good. My mom had the omelet with biscuits and potatoes and my brother had a waffle with a side of eggs. We all left very filled and satisfied. Our only complaints were in regards to the side of eggs and the hot chocolate my brother had. The side of eggs were $3 and were tiny. He ate them in about 3 bites, so definitely not worth it. Then the hot chocolate didn't come all the way full and the added whipped cream was $1! Both were just shocking in terms of value. Otherwise everything was great. We were quoted a 45 minute wait time and were sat in less than 30. It took a bit for a server to come greet us, but we were still greeted and had our order taken before the 45 minute mark so I'm not complaining. It was packed for Mother's Day. The food service was a bit slow, but I blame that on the fact that every seat in the restaurant was full. Our server was friendly and attentive. Our drinks were filled the entire time and she anticipated our needs before they arose. Overall a great experience! Oh! And they have paper straws!! 5 stars for amazing service and a great meal! Came here for brunch with a party of 7 on a Saturday morning. We called ahead to see if there was any wait after sadly walking away from a 40 min and not so welcoming attitude at Keke's. They told us to come right over and when we did they sat us right away with a smile. As you enter you will come in and notice a southern comfort vibe that is reflected by their food menu, decor, and service. I settled on more of a lunch option which was the turkey club. I'm always a fan of a good club sandwich and this one definitely did not disappoint. Most interestingly, the bread was toasted and delicious compared to the typical white or wheat options. Fries were also crispy and tasty. The sandwich was pretty large and could easily last two meals if you weren't as hungry as me! However, I did ask for the avocado on the side because I'm not a huge fan and I'm a little glad I did because it seemed a little old-- it didn't bother me though since it wasn't a deal breaker. We've been meaning to hit up Dixie Cream Cafe for quite some time now, and we finally had the opportunity. It did not disappoint. We hoped to avoid the predictable long lines by going during an off time of the morning, and for the most part, we were successful. We did, however, get the bar top in the back of the entryway near the bathrooms, but we were happy to be seated immediately. So that was sort of our choice. The customer service was spot on. Our server was going back and forward, doing everything imaginable for us and every guest in the vicinity. Our coffees and waters were always filled, and she always checked up on us throughout the entire service. I ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes Egg Benedict, and it was quite enjoyable. I'm a huge fan of fried green tomatoes, and Dixie Cream's version was really good. Perhaps a pinch oily for my taste, but it was for the most part executed correctly. The flavors were all there. As expected, like most mom and pop's breakfast joints, the home-style nature of the cooking tends to be a little bit greasy and not as refined. But not to say that the food is sloppy, because it wasn't. Someone back there took great care of our food, and they absolutely care about their menu. I can't wait to try more things next time. We ordered our mimosas, which were promptly delivered to us. I ordered the breakfast burrito and a half-order of biscuits and gravy. Oh. My. Goodness. I really enjoyed everything about this meal. After finishing my mimosa, I was craving some caffeine, so I ordered the vanilla bean latte. So delicious! Everyone enjoyed their meals, so I think that's saying something. I can't wait to come back to try the other things on the menu. SERVICE: Our server was nice. She was polite and was able to answer our questions. (It was our first time at Dixie Cream, so we weren't sure what to expect.) After reading some of the reviews, I think people should take into account that this is a small, local restaurant, as opposed to a chain restaurant. Yes, things may take some time. This is a charming cafe right in downtown Windermere. I'm old enough to remember this space not only as a convenience store, but also as the post office that preceded it. So it's odd that I've driven past hundreds of times, but only just finally stopped in to check it out. It definitely exceeded my expectations. There's counter service for freshly made pastries, coffees, and other beverages, and sit down dining in several areas: the restaurant proper, high tops in the area near the coffee bar, and covered tables outside along the porch. Each offers a different ambiance. The comprehensive menu includes coffee shop standards with an emphasis on breakfast, and more cafe-like items including artisan sandwiches and gourmet burgers. Fish tacos and other eclectic fare round out the diverse offerings. I opted for the BL(FG)T, which is a unique version of a BLT using fried green tomatoes. It was delicious, especially the toasted multi-grain bread. I opted to upgrade my side to a mixed green salad, which was served on the same plate. It had a nice mix of greens and an excellent blue cheese dressing. A very fresh coconut macaroon was the perfect dessert. Service was very friendly and attentive. I came here on a Friday for brunch. After eating clean for two weeks I was excited to "cheat" and ordered the chicken and waffles. I asked the waitress how it was prepared and if the chicken was fried like Publix fried chicken. She enthusiastically said it was and that I couldn't wrong. Imagine my disappointment when my $15 entree comes out with ONE waffle and a lightly breaded chicken breast. The maple syrup provided on the table was incredibly watered down and not at all the quality of food I expected from a reputable Windermere establishment. Unfortunately my standards were too high and my meal fell short of expectations. I definitely left the restaurant feeling hangry due to the portion and quality of food. Maybe it's unfair for me to compare my previous chicken and waffles experiences to Dixie Cream. Hash House A Go Go's chicken and waffles are amazing and at a similar price point with larger portions. (buffalo mozzarella, bacon, basil) Both dishes were large and tasty. First up, the french toast. We opted for the syrup on the side. This was a smart move as the french toast was decadent in its own right. Second, the omelet. The filling portion was generous with bacon in every bite. I had the vanilla battered French toast, so yummy, and my sister-in-law and I now feel that all French toast should be made from brioche! They jam it full of your toppings and don't skimp on the cheese at all. It's almost too much cheese (if that's even possible). The potatoes that come with it, however, were not good. They tasted bland and undercooked. I also feel that the lattes and some of the meals are overpriced. Do you get a lot? Yes. But this is breakfast. It shouldn't be $10+. It should be $10 or less.
