Good food, good service, great atmosphere. The biscuits are easily the best thing here. They're perfect. If we were back in town and came here, I'd order 2 biscuits and some turkey sausage. That's it. That's how good they are. Justification for my rating: I got the create your own omelette and it was huge! There's no way it's just 3 eggs. They jam it full of your toppings and don't skimp on the cheese at all. It's almost too much cheese (if that's even possible). The potatoes that come with it, however, were not good. They tasted bland and undercooked. I also feel that the lattes and some of the meals are overpriced. Do you get a lot? Yes. But this is breakfast. It shouldn't be $10+. It should be $10 or less. This is a generally consistently great breakfast & lunch spot conveniently located downtown Windermere. Food is always delicious & they have some unique offerings, such as their new prosciutto & Brie salad, which can make it tough to decide! The restaurant is casual & offers indoor & outdoor seating options, and is always comfortable & clean. Today we enjoyed breakfast items & large mimosas. The food & beverages were delicious & we left feeling satisfied! The only down side to this place is that depending on the day/time, wait times for seating can be extensive, & parking can be a challenge. We came late morning/early afternoon on a Friday & the place was only 1/2 full, but we had to wait 5-10 minutes to be seated. I get it, they were saving larger tables for larger parties, & we made the most of our time reviewing the menu prior to being seated. Our first time eating at Dixie Cream Cafe and can only say great things! The inside is adorable and quaint, we were seated after about 10 minutes on a Saturday around 8:30am. I started off with a vanilla latte which was delicious and a very large portion, $4.50. My husband ordered the caprese omelet off of the specials menu which came with breakfast potatoes and a biscuit. The caprese omelet had smoked mozzarella, tomatoes, applewood bacon and basil and he said he got a bite of all ingredients every bite. His biscuit was also huge and beautifully fluffy in the middle. Breakfast potatoes were cooked well but unseasoned. I ordered the blueberry granola pancakes and ordered a side of breakfast potatoes. Their granola and berry compote is made from scratch. It has actually been a while since I've been here, as it's usually quite busy on weekends. However it is a tranquil treasure during the week. The bountiful breakfasts and lunches are hearty, cooked perfectly, and mostly healthy - made from fresh / unique ingredients. The variety of beverages (i.e. Bloody Mary's to espresso blends) are a big draw, in addition to their house specials, soups, and weekly changing desserts. It was an understatement when one of the staff said they are overachievers. Our server brought us to-go sweet passion fruit iced tea refills with our dine-in portion as we were also getting a kids meal to go. Located on Main Street in Windermere, Dixie Cream Cafe was a pleasant surprise. My friend and I met there around 1130 for brunch and the place was packed. We were added to the wait list and given a 20 minute wait time. That was plenty of time to look through the menu. From omelettes to salads, sandwiches, and burgers, their menu offers something for everyone. Our table was ready after about a 10 minute wait. The space isn't that big and looks a little dated, but was cute nonetheless. Our Hostess and server were both very friendly. We ordered the fried green tomatoes appetizer to share. It was plenty for 2. The batter seemed to be more like a tempura. They were hot, crispy, and seasoned well. The remoulade that accompanied it was very good. For my main meal, I ordered their Spanish omelette. Chorizo, peppers,onions,and cheddar with salsa and sour cream on the side. My meal also came with home fries and a biscuit. Everything was really good! It was all seasoned well and my food came out hot. I was surprised by how big the portions were. My omelette washuge. I don't think I ate more than half of it. My friend ordered their brisket hash. She really enjoyed it and just like my meal, the portion size was big as well. Overall, we enjoyed our meals and the service. Let me say, the service is excellent. The staff are warm and accommodating, the mimosas are strong :) , and the chai latte is lovely. My girlfriend had scrambled eggs and the creme brulee oatmeal, which she enjoyed very much. I was not as fortunate in my choice. I decided to try what sounded like a dream on the menu: buttermilk brined fried chicken with sausage gravy, cheese grits, and two eggs. While the eggs were cooked beautifully (as was the accompanying giant biscuit), the fried chicken was a bit bland and overcooked. The cheese grits had little cheese and almost no seasoning. Since my chicken was too tough to cut with a fork, I politely made the server aware, and she had the dish made fresh. The second piece of chicken was only marginally more tender, but the chicken and grits were still bland. I was hoping for a beautifully juicy and crispy piece of fried chicken (the star of the dish) with a bit of spice. Everything else should have been an accent to the chicken. I hope the chef will reevaluate this particular recipe or it's execution. Take a trip to Yardbird in Miami Beach, then come back with a different approach to your fried chicken. Nonetheless, the other food was enjoyable and the service was fantastic. I'll give this place another try. read more

Cute restaurant located off Main Street in Windermere. It has a funky vibe where the milk for coffee comes in cow pitchers and there are paintings of roosters on the wall. There was a minimal wait for a table inside for the three of us but nothing too crazy. We were probably waiting about 10 minutes or so. The coffee was very good and they offered soy milk for me at no extra charge since I'm lactose intolerant. I had the lew omelette and it was delicious. Feta cheese (thank you lactaid) tomatoes, spinach, and olives in a three egg omelette with breakfast potatoes and toast or a biscuit. My sister had the vanilla battered French toast and her friend had the D.C. Waffle. Both of them loved their meals. The service was good was well. Came on Sunday morning just before opening as I expected it to be crowded and was able to be seated immediately. It did fill up very quickly. Ordered the beef brisket hash which comes with 2 eggs and a buttermilk biscuit. Eggs are eggs. The biscuit was great but crumbled apart when you tried to butter it. The hash was good but lacking flavor and seemed somewhat bland. I was only drinking water and after finishing my glass I had to wait longer than I would expect for a refill. They have groovy-looking lime chairs, bright red umbrellas, cute flower boxes and there are bright green and red adirondack chairs out front to relax in. I sat outside on the patio since it was a beautiful day and read their giant menu. They also gave me a decent sized list of specials of the day as well. So there are a lot of options to choose from. I chose a simple dish of scrambled egg whites, turkey sausage, fruit (extra charge) and a big giant biscuit. Everything was great. The highlight was the biscuit. It's one of the best that I've ever had. Perfectly crispy outside and fluffy on the inside. It tasted heavenly with the honey I drizzled on it. Honey is a must if you have this biscuit. And they conveniently leave a bottle of honey on each of the tables. Service was a little slow since I was the only one outside but they were so nice. Dixie Cream is located in a small complex off Main Street in Windermere. It is actually right across the street from my dentist. I wish they were open later so I could go after the dentist! Anyway, they don't take reservations and we wanted to beat the after church rush so we got there about 10:30. We were told it would be about a 15 minute wait. It was only about 5 minutes. We sat at a high top near the cash register, which became a problem later as many people grabbing coffee and muffins gathered around our table. I had read the yelp reviews so I ordered a Passion Fruit tea. It was sooo good. Now, I am a southerner so I like my tea saccharine sweet, so despite what others said I put a packet of sweet n low in it and just thought it was outstanding. My boyfriend ordered the chicken and grits. It was so good. The chicken was moist and flavorful. The grits were creamy. The gravy had big chunks of sausage, though the biscuit was just ok. I ordered the banana's foster French toast. Our waitress smartly advised me to order the 1/2 portion. The smaller portions are not on the menu, but she said she can 1/2 just about anything with only a couple of exceptions. I'm so glad she suggested this because I couldn't even finish the 1/2 portion. It was so good, but extremely decadent. The menu is pretty extensive. I had a terrible time trying to decide what to order. Prices were totally reasonable too. My bf said he knew I really liked it because before we left I was already talking about what I would order next time. I can't wait to go back. We had one fly pay us a visit before we got our food that wouldn't go away, but eventually it did. :) The Passion Fruit tea was really good unsweetened, but be sure to mix it well so you don't drink most of the syrup first like I did. :) I ordered the Chicken and Biscuits/Grits meal (which is plenty to split with a friend btw!) and my boyfriend had the Biscuits and Gravy. We tried splitting both dishes and it was still too much food. The biscuits were massive. Seriously. But oh so good. The sausage gravy had tiny bits of pepper in it, not spicy though. Not a friendly staff! Food didn't look that good, but tasted good. won't come back here again because of the service. Our waiter didn't come by once after we got our food. Never refilled coffee. Never asked me for a another drink, and only asked if we wanted the check after I had to stack our plates up to let him know we were finished. And I'm terribly sorry to say this, but I felt race played a huge role with the service. I'm saying this because I noticed the treatment difference with our table and the tables around us..... and even tho I am upset I am still a friendly person. So I know anything with me was not a factor. It was terribly disappointing. Update: so I visited this place again 3 years later. And it by far surpassed the previous. Great little spot in downtown Windermere. The buffalo chicken omelet was OK. It was really big- could barely finish it, even with the help of my husband, but I was underwhelmed by it. Like many people have pointed out the buffalo sauce comes on the side, but overall there was not that much flavor to it. I've also had their biscuit and gravy, take notice the gravy is made with large chunks of sausage (for those who may not be into this type of gravy). The taste was good and the biscuits were very fresh. Their strawberry whipped cream pancakes were fantastic though!
