Yellow Dog Eats is such an iconic Windermere classic, I can't believe it's taken me so long to get here! Even at 3 PM, almost all the tables were full. They have a great covered outdoor seating area and their inside, while small, is cozy and homey with pictures of dogs all over the walls. I ordered the sweet potato tacos, and they were so flavorful and filling. It's a BBQ restaurant but there are definitely lots of good vegetarian options. Definitely, when you get the Rufus you get the extra add-ons such as the fried onion and cheese. It 'makes the dish' so don't short change yourself on taste. Just a few extra pennies. My family has always wanted to check out this place for a while and we found time around the holidays and in the new year to stop in for a few meals. (It is dog friendly, but we chose to not bring our dogs with us both times, as we were out running errands prior to stopping in for a meal.) They have a good amount of parking available if you go a bit before a peak meal time. Regarding tables, there are a few on the back porch area, some out front, and there's the covered area out back. Some folks I've seen eat at the bar inside as well. Usually we've been able to find a table whenever we've come here. I've tried their pulled pork sandwich and the house made queso, along with one of their January specials which was their take on a meatball sandwich. Everything is made to order and it tastes very good, without being over-seasoned or heavy. My mom and I commented that the pulled pork does not taste greasy, which is not always easy to find whenever we go to BBQ places. Portion sizes are big - you could have leftovers in some cases, but our instances, we often skipped lunch and came closer to dinner, so we were pretty hungry. Love this place but we don't come here as often since our dog passed over a year ago. Our friends (that are picky eaters) came here with us and had a great meal. Our friend didn't care for the potato salad, but it's person preference. You still have to order at the counter and get your own food when the buzzer goes off. Getting to this Gotha location takes you on an enjoyable ride through a lovely neighborhood that for your first time going there will leave you wondering if you're going the right way. Windermere~ This little café has been on my radar, but I don't get out to this area very often. Today was the day we got to experience this extremely eclectic restaurant. I would say that the atmosphere along with the employees outweigh the food, this is where the 4 stars came in. Otherwise, I would have given them three stars if it was solely based on food. They had a ton of items on their menu and it was really difficult to make a solid decision! My lunch mate, and I went back-and-forth several times trying to decide. I decided on a Twisted Tuna, but wanted to change the cheese to goat cheese. The host tried to talk me out of that, but I insisted that I would like to have goat cheese (dairy issues) instead of brie. What I got was NO CHEESE at all!! LOL I guess he wasn't really happy that I wanted to change cheese! Also, beware, although the menu says that they are putting avocado on the sandwich, it is not avocado, but some kind of watery green spread. Not tasty. The multigrain bread was so over "pressed" that it was hard as a rock and made it difficult to eat the sandwich. One bite, and all of the filling squirted out. My lunch partner had the Florida cracker sandwich. She said it was yummy. We both agreed that the coleslaw needed a little something something, but not sure what that was. I happened to see someone with the nachos entrée and snapped a picture of it. Those looked outstanding, but I have no idea how they tasted. We ordered dessert to take with us. Coconut cake and peach cobbler. I brought them home to my family and they enjoyed both items. I would like to give them another shot, when I'm in the area. My friend ordered the "Tickle my pickle" sandwich and he has not stopped raving about it. The owner, "Fish", is a cool guy and he established this restaurant 26 years ago. He makes a large variety of bottled condiments that you can purchase ($7.95). I bought a jar of his homemade chow-chow relish (yum). ConsideringI grew up right down the street, I have been going here since I could walk. I actually used to walk my dog here and it is certainly pup approved. They always have dog bowls available and extremely dog friendly. I stopped in recently (without my dog unfortunately) for dinner since I was in the Windermere area. Luckily I still found other dogs to pet and met friendly people inside at the bar. Almost every wall is decorated with dog pictures or something Florida related, it's a true locals spot, whose popularity has grown widely. I sat at the indoor bar which is so festively decorated and inviting. I was not in the mood for beer but was delighted to know that they had 5 different ciders to choose from. The Apple cider was 11% and a crisp refreshing choice I hope they keep in stock forever. I was not in the mood for a sandwich so the helpful cashier was kind enough to recommend smoked chicken. It was amazing of course, and all their smoked meats are out of this world. The smoker is what gives their sandwiches that special touch and rich flavor. I got the smoked chicken with a side of roasted potatoes. The potatoes are seasoned well and you can taste that they are cooked with peppers too.
