The brewery itself is spacious with lots of indoor and outdoor seating and your typical funky, industrial tap room feel. There's often really good food trucks, pop-up coffee stands, live music, trivia nights--you name it. You can also grab cans to-go, peruse their merch selection, and bring your pup along (at least if you're sitting outside, not sure about the tap room). Barrel House Z is also right nextdoor, so if you want to brewery hop a bit, that's an option too. The beers themself also don't disappoint. My husband and I are definitely hazy IPA people, and have found something we love each time we visit. If you're not into that though, your options are definitely more limited. They do always have at least one seltzer and mocktail on the menu if either of those are more your speed. Both the staff and patrons here are so nice, it definitely has a community feel to it. I'm quickly on my way to becoming a regular, and wouldn't have it any other way!

No matter, I can say for sure it was great! This one was refreshing, summery, citrusy, and while sweet, not overwhelmingly so. Something I would 10/10 get again, and need to get my tail end over here before it rotates out! I also have a light fascination with blue food - it seems like it shouldn't exist, but I digress. As for their other offerings, I feel that they have an okay selection. Some seltzers, stouts, sours, and non-alcoholic options were all available. However, the menu was also IPA heavy, and while I appreciate that I may be in the minority, I am not an IPA fan. Though, perhaps that may change in the future with Vitamin Sea's help. The staff have been nothing but kind and welcoming. While typical of places like this, the ability to try samples doesn't go unnoticed. Finally, the vibe is open, hip, and communal. There are lots of picnic style tables, and card/board game available to borrow. Thus, a terrific brewery to spend a weekend afternoon or evening at. The place is open to families and friend groups, and food trucks are here often. Lots to try and enjoy; especially for IPA lovers. The day I went there was a band playing and there was special ticketed event that forced us to leave (no big deal as we had more than enough time). The space is huge, however compartmentalized, and there's plenty of outdoor seating. Because of its warehouse size and no sound proofing when the band was playing it was incredibly loud with tons of reverberation. The mezzanine is adults only which is helpful as it's right next door to an indoor sports facility and there is no shortage of kids here. Pizza was decent, cooked correctly and really hit the spot after a couple of beers. They utilize an "order at the bar and get a text when your food is ready" system. You then go up to the open air kitchen area and get your food. The beers are serviceable by today's standards with the porter being my favorite. The lagers were also pretty good. Like most folks on Yelp I was surprised by the mandatory 20% gratuity (almost $2 per beer). As someone that ordinarily tips 20-25% in a sit down restaurant I'm a little confused as to how in a place where you order at the counter, pick up your own food and bus your own table the 20% is earned? These situations usually get 10% gratuity from me since I'm doing more than 50% of the work.

I wasn't sure if the bar was abandoned, closed, or if they were just unwilling to accept my business. Moments later, what could only be a "regular" sullenly unlocked and opened the door for me. I asked "are you open?" and got an affirmative grunt in response. Master McGrath's is actually quite spacious and clean; the bar has about 15 seats, and is well-lined with small flat-screen TVs, the better to see the Sox beat the snot out of the O's. They have an internet jukebox, and a popcorn machine for free snacking. I knew right away that I was in a bar frequented almost exclusively by regulars; the surprisingly cute female bartender was eager to prepare drinks for the customers walking *in from the back door* before they sat down. I received a fairly standard silent-treatment half hour, followed by a cautious inclusion in some casual conversation. Being a gregarious individual, I soon was laughing and chatting with the regulars, and even had one of them buy me a drink, a favor I returned later. I was not able to get a Jameson - the man who bought me the drink explained that "if there's a bottle of Jameson, I'll drink it all." Of course, I didn't know if he was a manager, owner, or regular customer, but he is apparently important enough to the management that in an Irish pub, they don't stock Jameson. The buffalo fingers are top feckin' shelf. Definitely worth ordering. Hyde Park is a neighborhood that could use some more folks making the trip down to see. He was an oldschool Irish bartender who took about 5 minutes on each round... I don't know why, but the stout always tasted better there. They always had a DJ playing good music and two TVs for sports fans. Plus after only a few visits, it was like Cheers. Everybody knew you. In short, I miss this place so much... The Fermentary carries other local breweries' beer - Widowmaker, Vitamin Sea, Stellwagen, etc. They also carry all natural wines and have some snacks to munch on (the pretzel and queso are really good!). They made some nice upgrades. It seems brighter and maybe more seating. Only "negatives" we've seen are that they are very heavy on IPAs (mostly double and triples, the couple times we've been), which isn't too bad for us, because we really only drink IPAs, but if you're looking for a lager or an ale, your options might be limited. Also, they don't have cable, so if it's a local game you're trying to catch, you'll be out of luck. Notice they've had some events held there - seems like it would be a great spot for that (nice open space with fireplace and tv). This will definitely be our go-to for a laid back afternoon/early evening, quick drink or two. Definitely check it out!
