We sat at "the snug" bar hidden in a back room (sounds cooler than it was). We started with fries, which were cooked nicely to a golden brown but tasted dry as a bone! They could have used some (or a lot of) seasoning. No salt/pepper was provided and our bartender was missing most of the time so we couldn't ask for it. Thank goodness for ketchup! For my meal, I ordered the "beef & feta toastie" with a side salad. It tasted like a steak & cheese sub and a grilled cheese sandwich had a baby. And even though I like feta, swiss and arugula, the taste of the combination inside my sandwich was odd/not that great. But I'd still say the sandwich was on good quality bread that was toasted perfectly. My favorite part of my meal was the dressing that came with my side salad; I could have drank it out of a cup, it was that good! My husband had the chicken pot pie and said it was just ok. We weren't impressed with this place but I would still recommend checking it out and deciding for yourself ;)

For our main dishes, I ordered the pistachio‑crusted haddock with grilled vegetables, while my colleague chose the fajitas. The dinner special was the highlight for me: the haddock was incredibly fresh, cooked perfectly, and wonderfully moist with a delicate, flaky texture. I loved it. My colleague said the fajitas were fine, though not particularly memorable for his taste. Service throughout the evening was excellent, especially considering the crowd. Overall, I really enjoyed our meal and the attentive service. I'd happily return the next time I'm in town.

It was a perfect meal to split. The cole slaw also went really well with the barbeque which is important. Our waitress was great and prompt. They were serving Maine brewing's Lunch which is a particular favorite of mine. Easy parking. High marks all around. If you go, just a heads up - there are no low chairs. If you have any type of mobility problem that won't allow you to climb into a tall chair or a booth with a step you will have a hard time sitting inside here.

I get she wants to get her tip but it was an unpleasant experience as a guest. We were obviously here for the game like everyone else and was not planning to leave in the second quarter. Waitress kept coming back every 5 to 10 min to try and clear our plates. After the third of fourth time I just told her to take it away so they don't keep bothering us. Unfortunately that was my lasting impression after she closed the tab and went home. We could have stuck around longer to order more drinks but vibe was already ruined and it was a terrible game. But they were good, it was the right amount of cheese to waffle fry. For my main I got the Reuben which was Ok but a bit of a let down. Really heavy sauerkraut and thousand island flavor. And fair warning I learned the hard way that this bolognese is not on every Tavern menu so when you find it appreciate it fully. Service is always warm and efficient from the moment you walk in. It feels easy and welcoming every single time. They also have a rewards system which is a nice little bonus for a spot we already frequent. This is one of our favorite local date night places. Cozy vibes great food and consistent quality keep us coming back over and over. Hubby swears by the chicken ranch sandwich and the fish and chips and honestly he is not wrong. The room was comfortable and cozy with a real fire place, which was nice to have on a cold day, and the food came out promptly even though we arrived much sooner than originally anticipated. I let Shawna know we were running ahead of schedule and she made sure the building was open and ready for us (they were typically closed at that hour). Everyone seemed to enjoy the food, especially the desserts, and we will definitely be considering Waterfords in the future for happier events.

It's a converted house or something because when you enter there's a large foyer with high ceilings and then you walk into this large dining room with a beautiful fireplace and tables with white tablecloths and then you get to the restaurant and bar area. Plus they have a function room upstairs according to their website. They have musical bingo on Tuesdays and also trivia nights. I ordered the southwest chicken salad - came with blackened chicken which was pretty much the best part of the salad. Hubs ordered the Rueben sandwich with regular fries. It was very meaty and rich buttery. He thought it was very tasty and the fries were a little on the salty side but yummy. Service was great - the server's name in the bill showed up as Bar B lol so I'm not sure if that is her name of some sort of code for the bartenders. Anyway she was super nice and friendly! The weather, the beer, the food and a fun barmaid in a wood paneled pub are all single qualifies that makes me harken back to my past, living in London and then in North Wales in the 1980s. And the other patrons, Americans all, still were like an American version of an English pub crowd. There were young and old, posh business types, sitting next to manual laborers.. The barmaid (whose name was known by most of the regulars there, although I have forgotten it (alas I must be getting old!) is a pistol. Always chatting and joking, while she poured pints, and even Bells scotch, which is a standard blend found in just about every pub in England. The only sense that was missing was the ubiquitous scent of wood (oak) found in almost all of the pubs in Britain. That unmistakable scent you can find in the many old (generally Irish) pubs around Faneuil Hall, btw. When I asked the barmaid (always smiling and laughing) about the fish n chips, she gave a wink and said "ooh, Love. Ya picked the best day for that. The fish is delivered from the dock every Wednesday." I ordered a pint of Smithwicks ale to enjoy at the bar, as she took my order for fish n chips. She leaned forward and whispered to me, somewhat conspiratorially, that it's served with salad, as the owner has not yet found a coleslaw recipe that meets his standards. Very evocative again. I watched, listened and drank my ale deeply, as the barmaid described another barmaid as "so wonderful, the only thing missing is there should be two of her!" We all nodded and laughed. Fun place. The fish n chips arrived hot, very fresh and perfectly crunchy with beer batter. The chips (fries) were hand cut, as you could see the small bits of potato skin at the ends. Served with a very attractive and crunchy salad, and of course malt vinegar, it was a bargain at a lower price than the $20+ charged at many local watering holes. I ordered another pint, and then dug in. It was very fresh and somewhat thick piece cod. The flesh of the fish separates into large fleshy flakes under the crispy beer batter, and the chips had flavor (as opposed to the more common extruded fries usually found here). But it's more than just the food and the bar. The atmosphere at this pub is so very real--sort of the best aspects of some nice neighborhood cozy pubs in Britain. If it's cold outside, you can just shamble in, and rub your hands together and mutter "lovely" as you savor your drink and food. Welcome!
