I went to Limey's Pub in Norwood on a Wednesday evening, in search of some "proper" beer and fish n chips and some atmosphere, while it rained outside. The weather, the beer, the food and a fun barmaid in a wood paneled pub are all single qualifies that makes me harken back to my past, living in London and then in North Wales in the 1980s. And the other patrons, Americans all, still were like an American version of an English pub crowd. There were young and old, posh business types, sitting next to manual laborers.. The barmaid (whose name was known by most of the regulars there, although I have forgotten it (alas I must be getting old!) is a pistol. Always chatting and joking, while she poured pints, and even Bells scotch, which is a standard blend found in just about every pub in England. The only sense that was missing was the ubiquitous scent of wood (oak) found in almost all of the pubs in Britain. That unmistakable scent you can find in the many old (generally Irish) pubs around Faneuil Hall, btw. When I asked the barmaid (always smiling and laughing) about the fish n chips, she gave a wink and said "ooh, Love. Ya picked the best day for that. The fish is delivered from the dock every Wednesday." I ordered a pint of Smithwicks ale to enjoy at the bar, as she took my order for fish n chips. She leaned forward and whispered to me, somewhat conspiratorially, that it's served with salad, as the owner has not yet found a coleslaw recipe that meets his standards. Very evocative again. I watched, listened and drank my ale deeply, as the barmaid described another barmaid as "so wonderful, the only thing missing is there should be two of her!" We all nodded and laughed. Fun place. The fish n chips arrived hot, very fresh and perfectly crunchy with beer batter. The chips (fries) were hand cut, as you could see the small bits of potato skin at the ends. Served with a very attractive and crunchy salad, and of course malt vinegar, it was a bargain at a lower price than the $20+ charged at many local watering holes. I ordered another pint, and then dug in. It was very fresh and somewhat thick piece cod. The flesh of the fish separates into large fleshy flakes under the crispy beer batter, and the chips had flavor (as opposed to the more common extruded fries usually found here). But it's more than just the food and the bar. The atmosphere at this pub is so very real--sort of the best aspects of some nice neighborhood cozy pubs in Britain. If it's cold outside, you can just shamble in, and rub your hands together and mutter "lovely" as you savor your drink and food. Welcome! read more

Not Bad Limey's has that warm, friendly, neighborhood feel you expect to find in pubs across the pond. Our waitress was extremely friendly, and happily answered all questions about the menu and pub. She told us they have live music 2 nights a week (seasonally, I think), a weekly specials' menu, a pool table with specials' nights, and even board games available for patrons to use. The atmosphere is casual with wooden dining tables on one side, a long high table with multiple high seating running through the center of room and a long bar along the inside wall. There's a pool table in the rear. Tables had nice space between them; we didn't feel crowded in. We were able to explore Norwood a bit and find out about the food scene there. After receiving a list of four places to check out from a native, we went with Limey's, based on their menu. The space is inviting, with our typically weird and somewhat kitschy American Anglophilia ideals of what we think British pubs look like (full disclaimer: I've never been to England, let alone any pubs in the UK). So, lots of tin advertising signage, dark woods, etc. It was a bustling Saturday night, but we had a very brief wait for a table to turn over. The staff is outstanding- both from making sure we knew we'd be seated shortly, to ordering and service. There are lots of appealing choices here. The fish and chips had a nice, crunchy battering, the fries are hand cut. The bangers and mash were great - a slightly acidic, sour flavor in the Cumberland sausage (again, is that authentic? I dunno, but the flavor stood out, so I assume so), real mashed, and brown gravy with onions - it just seemed spot on. There was live music- apparently a Berklee student who was just fantastic on guitar and keys, and had a few solid originals in his set between decade spanning covers. Not too loud, you could still converse easily, or sing along if the mood struck you :-) Definitely a place we'd seek out again! read more

Went there today - our first time and we were quite pleased. The bartender Matt poured a perfect Guinness, dealt with customers in a timely manner - greeted everybody and was respectful and contentious. We really enjoyed being served by him at the bar. We split a fish and chips and he didn't bat an eye at our wanting to share - my Guinness was poured just how I like. He dealt with other customers with respect and demonstrated excellent responsibility. My fish and chips were really good. Overall I was quite happy to spend my hard earned dollars there. Went in the other day for the first time just for drinks and loved it. The bar is huge and perfect for accommodating many patrons. Guinness is poured well. But i returned for lunch a day later and was not impressed. Being close to St Paty day I ordered a Rueben with my Guinness. It was more of a seeded Rye bread grilled cheese with some largely cubed chunks of tough unchewable meat. Sauerkraut tasted old, and it was just not good. I could not and would not finish it. First time in my life I couldn't finish a Rueben. read more

It's primarily a pub but the food here is unbelievably good. Definitely better than some of the restaurants in the area. The bartenders are friendly, attentive and on top of things. We stopped by late at night after a Patriots game! We got in around 1210 and last call was at 1230. We ordered two rounds and played pool until closing at 1. Cute local bar with a local crowd. Pool was free which was a nice surprise from other bars. The one thing I did think was weird (although I'm out of state) is that they wouldn't serve shots straight up that late. Only on the rocks. Obsessed with this place! I needed a venue to host a large group of colleagues last minute for a work outing. LIMEYS CAME THROUGH! I sent an email at 7:30 pm to request an outing the next day and Stacey messaged me back by 8:05. I couldn't believe how accommodating they were. They brought in extra cooks / bar tenders to serve us. Food was so good and the drink options are great too. They have a great selection of on-tap beers (Maine Lunch!) and the cocktails (Tennessee Spice) are excellent. Most importantly to me - the service was amazing and everyone working there is so incredibly nice. They reserved the back barrel area for us but because it was so nice outside a lot of our folks wanted to sit on the patio. They did not bat an eye and just brought all of our pre-ordered food outside. Anytime we asked for a drink or anything else they had it in five minutes. I've not had service like that in a while. If you want to have a work outing in the Norwood area - I would suggest this place 100 times over. Would also just recommend this place for dinner and drinks. I've never had the impression that they have any serious experience making drinks, so I pointed that out in a Google review. I've visited 3 times all on a Saturdays around 5-7pm. All 3x there's been 1 server who is also tending bar who appear to be overworked and overwhelmed. Most recently the bartender was really bad at pouring beers. Maybe the kegs were bad, not sure. Not something I'd normally complain about but I tried 3 different beers, all terrible pours. Food all 3 visits is best described as mediocre. Never bad, never good. Seems to be a nice crowd, definitely a townie bar. In summary, not sure why this place is typically crowded, meh food and overwhelmed staff. read more

When my boyfriend and I first moved to Norwood 2 years ago, Limey's was literally the first restaurant we tried in the area. For a variety of reasons, we didn't feel like the food or service was anything to return for. That is until this past November when we decided to give it another try, and we are so happy that we did. Since our first visit, they have definitely redone the menu because even though Limey's is a "typical" pub, the food goes above any beyond typical pub food. Appetizers such as arancini and short rib tacos are flavorful and delicious. There are a variety of poutines, salads, and sandwiches that don't disappoint, and the steak tips are actually the best I have had in Norwood. Along with the menu staples, Limey's offers specials each week usually in the form of theme menus. This is a fun and creative addition to an already large menu. Aside from the food, the drinks are also affordable and always well made. The bartenders have great customer service, and are fast even when the bar/dining room is full. Overall, I would recommend Limey's and will continue to return. read more

Great atmosphere and fun place to be. Friendly owners and staff. The service can be a little slow at times but the food and drinks make up for it. I haven't had anything I didn't like. On different occasions, I've tried the chicken tenders, buffalo salad, Limey burger and nachos. They also make fabulous drinks; from creative martinis to warm, chocolate concoctions. There is plenty of seating; open space for large groups. They have a pool table and dart board. The bathrooms are clean, which is a huge plus for me. Oh yeah, tons of flat panel TV's showing mostly sports but the owner said they can change the channel to satisfy any request (no Hallmark shows, of course). read more

I went to this place a few weeks ago to meet up with a few buddies and we had a great time. Pool is free on Sunday which we didn't know until we walked in and they have a dartboard in the back which is great. I got to meet the owner who seemed very friendly and the drinks and food were delicious. Definitely a spot we will go back. read more

I was told there was a Irish pub called Limey's down the street, thought the name was "funny" but we went to try. Lo and behold the name wasn't funny because it was an english pub, not Irish. The waiter was very attentive, but it wasn't busy at all. The food was okay, typical pub food, very bland, werving size was good, all 4 of us ate less than half our food, but none of us thought it was good enough to take home a doggy bag. I would go again if in the area, but would not go out of my way to eat there again. read more

Fun place to visit right in the heart of Norwood. I stopped in for just a beer, but I ended up having a full meal after seeing the menu. Top notch British pub with the best steak tips and staff in town. Over the years this place has gotten better and better.

The food was horrible. Lemon chicken had no lemon taste. The parmesan risotto was boxed rice with some sort of cheese so called melted in. The spinach came with some gross sour sauce on it. They have better than decent steak tips but their fish n chips are out of this world - Guinness batter dipped, the filet I had last night measured 6" x 8" and about an inch and a half thick, perfectly done as are their chips. The cole slaw was good with a horseradish tang to it. I would vote them as having the best FnC in the Boston area that I've had in a long, long time. It's seat yourself but you'll be greeted before sitting or shortly thereafter, service so far has been great. Half Vintage Hipster ....... Half Townie Sports-or-Club-or-Pub-or (???). I met up with two of my closest friends for dinner and they recommended Limey's (where they attend Thursday Trivia). The space is classic Brit-Pub. It's a long space with a variety of seating options, solid wood accents, and glamorous tin ceiling tiles. I was feelin' the groove with the tunes being played (Adele, the Smiths, the Ramones, Peter Bjorn and John, etc)....but was a little confused as to why those tunes were being blared from all directions. We sat, we observed the menu (doesn't take long - it's a small but packed with some great comfort food combos). We were introduced to our waitress and ordered a round of brewskies. A few minutes later, I was sipping my 5$ Black Velvet (mmmmm Guinnessy goodness) and we were digging into our potato skin appetizer (4 cheesy pieces of potatoey heaven for 8$ ....a little overpriced, but a delicious). Meanwhile: ...the music slowly became slightly more pronounced and the "bah buh bah" of the b-b-bass was preventing 100% conversation comprehension. [so we leaned in - like good friends do in these situations] Our food arrived and I must say: comfort cuisine ACCOMPLISHED!! My Italian Panini (mozzarella, basil, tomato on focaccia) was DE-licious; the sweet potato fries: I wish I had ordered a barrel. My friend got a MASSIVE bowl of Buffalo Chicken Mac'n'Cheese (*whimper*) - - - - instant satisfaction. Our waitress was friendly and took care to check in on us (again....aaaand again...and a-gain - - - sheeeeesh!). We would have welcomed the pint refills, but no time for chit-chat; the waitress kept circling by our corner table, and volume of the music was competing with avid college basketball fans screaming at the TV behind the bar (yeahhh I'll pass). I was pleased with the design and layout of the place and the menu had some GREAT options at totally reasonable prices. This place... Confuses me. So, first off, the place at like 7 on a Thursday was a mobscene. It was trivia night (which is what we came for) but the place was jam-packed and insanely loud. It also seemed like there only one waitress (and a bartender) to take care of the masses. I put no fault on the waitress as it seemed she was working very hard but it was terrible for the place to have so little staff as it took a long time to get any refills or even anyone to come over (again, the pub's fault not the waitress). My order came out wrong the first time and it took another 10+ minutes to get it right. But when it was right (the nachos) it was FANTASTIC. The price for the nachos seems a bit high, but that's because you get a mountain of nachos. And they were constructed well, with cheese between all the layers and I maybe found 1 or 2 chips from the whole pile that didn't have cheese or other ingredients. They had an abundance of all the ingredients in perfect proportions. These were probably the best nachos I've ever had. They also gave me the nachos for free after the hassle, which was very kind of them. Overall, if you can get in on a quiet night without piles and piles of people, or at least have enough waitstaff to handle it, the food is really good and the service was friendly. The only issue was the rowdy crowds and lack of service. read more
