Their stouts were better than the IPAs. We had a flight to start and then full pours. They also have a half pour option on most beers so that is always appreciated. The servers were very friendly and came around frequently to clear glasses They are dog friendly on specific days and we happened to be there on a Sunday when they allow dogs so that was nice. Solid spot to grab a beer after work with tons of variety. I really like that it's a spacious brewery with tons of seating. Not too loud either; I enjoy that it's a good spot where you can have a conversation. They serve bar pizza from Mike and Lenny's food truck, which is pretty solid! I tried the golden fever chicken bar pizza, and it was really good! The pizza was a little on the pricier end (18.50), and it took a while to get to our table (even tho it wasn't that busy). Super convenient location with tons of parking. Overall good vibes, with a large selection of IPAs, beers, Pilsners, and Ales. Dog-friendly inside! Cool vibes, good beers, and a spot I like to stop after hiking the blue hills with my dogs. They often have food trucks outside but I've not tried them. They sell branded dog toys and leashes, too ... dangerous if you've had a couple drinks and wander over to the treat dispenser on the counter. read more

A large group of us came here after a wedding rehearsal for drink and food. I said it that way because your food options are somewhat limited. That evening, it was one pizza food truck outside (reviewed separately) and their own prepared salads, tossed and Caesar, both of which were quite good. I ordered and enjoyed the only darker beer on tap, which was good because they ran out of it shortly after that. You have a variety of seating options including tables, high tables, and even a lounge area in the front with sofas... yet for the couple of hours I was there, I never saw anyone sit there. There's plenty of space in the parking lot behind the building that can easily accommodate everyone's cars. read more

Nice place, it was happening and trivia night when I went. The beer was pretty good. The Sour, the kolsch, were my favorite. The chicken tenders with the Widowmaker sauce was really good. We got the cajun sidewinders, the fry was good but, there wasn't enough Cajun seasoning for it to earn the title of Cajun sidewinder. The chicken sandwich was DRY even with sauce and the bread was dried out or over toasted. The pickle pizza was a complete miss. It was basically frozen dough discs with your normal pizza sauce cheese and slap some pickles on it. I guess I expected more creativity more of Big E Fair pickle pizza. The worst part was the dough was just soggy and floppy. The bartender was cool, nice guy!! Service was pleasant just a miss on the pizza for sure. Maybe add some dill, a white sauce something.. So after quite a bit of time, had the opportunity to swing by Widowmaker Brewing. I have had their beers at a variety of places but the timing never worked out to be able to actually visit. UNTIL TODAY! Great selection of beers for the enthusiast. Lots of IPA's , Double IPA's and a selection of Pilsner and Ales. I always choose the IPA's and had the Blue Comet and the Quarry IPA. Both were delicious and very nice. The place is very Pet-Friendly, with a dispenser for dog treats at the end of the bar. The place was loaded with tv's, so we sat back and enjoyed Week 0 of college football. The place has lots of seating and also has an outside area. Today was THICCY's Taco day. Had the chips and rojas sauce and they hit the spot. Great place to swing by and enjoy some great beers and food. read more

Widowmaker Brewing is a craft brewery that opened in Braintree, Massachusetts in September 2017. It was founded by business partners Ryan Lavery, Colin Foley and Bud Lazaro. Lavery and Foley met while playing in a men's hockey league. Lavery worked in pharmaceutical sales while Foley worked in finance. They soon learned that they shared a passion for homebrewing. They practiced their hobby in Lavery's basement and brewed everything from pale ales to stouts and porters. The partners soon became burned out in their office jobs and decided to quit and open a brewery. They decided to call their new venture "Widowmaker" as a reference to their former jobs: work that takes someone away from the people that they love. Lazaro came on board as an additional partner. After opening, the brewery's popularity grew very quickly; they went from a 7 barrel brewhouse to a 15 barrel brewhouse. In 2021, they opened a summer beer garden at Kilroy Square Farmers Market in Quincy Center. Lazaro later left the company and sold his interests to new partner Kenny Semcken. The current head brewer is Brady Heefner. Plans are currently underway to open a 5,000-square-foot brewpub location in Brighton. My son and I recently visited Widowmaker Brewing after a day of cycling in Boston. I looked to see if there were any good breweries in the area and Widowmaker came highly recommended. I was very impressed to learn that they've had several collaborations with notable breweries such as Equilibrium Brewery, Long Live Beerworks and Other Half Brewing. The atmosphere at the brewery was so chill and everyone was so friendly (staff and customers alike). Although Widowmaker doesn't offer traditional taster flights, they do offer short pours. I ended up sampling "Blue Comet" (New England IPA), "The Devil's Staircase" (New England IPA), "Candy Maker" (Peanut Butter Milk Stout), and "Interstellar Skylight" (Double New England IPA - Collaboration with Obercreek Brewing). Every single beer that I sampled was fantastic! In fact, I think that they are one of the best breweries I've visited in all of New England! Way to go guys! As soon as I saw the name of this brewery I knew I needed to try it! Lol! Steve and I got one of the beers from Widowmaker and we liked it fairly well. The Blue Comet was the name of the beer we had. It was a Hazy New England IPA which was very enjoyable. One of the better New England IPA's that I have had lately but that kind of holds up to my idea and experience that some of the best New England IPA's come from the East Coast and New England states. There are other promising beer selections as well and if the opportunity rises again I'd like to try a darker beer from Widowmaker like a porter or a stout. read more

The vibe of this place has really changed. We've been going here for 5 plus years and I find visiting here to be uncomfortable given that the staff is rather unfriendly and it's not kid friendly. The beer is still good. The staff was rude to my children and ripped the Nintendo controller out of her hand. This could have been handled much more professionally, not being aggressive to children, while parents were present. The music is loud and aggressive. The service is rude. Dog and kid friendly brewery! They even have a family restroom which was eqipped with a changing table and diaper pail. They had the AC cranking and this was our refuge on a hot summer day. We were in the neighborhood and a friend suggested we check it out. What a great tap room. There is a ton of room with lots of seating and a huge parking lot. The staff is super friendly and helped make suggestion on what to try. We all went with sample racks and all the brews we had were delicious. They had lots of different styles so something for everyone. A snack station in the corner is a nice addition to cut the booze a bit. They have Crowley's to go if anything catches Your fancy to bring home. I'd recommend it for my fellow beer geeks to check out for sure. Cheers ! read more

This is long overdue. We were in town for a wedding on Memorial Day weekend and scheduled an impromptu group party here that Thursday. Working with Kenny to get it scheduled was super easy and they were very professional. When we got there that night it was Matt behind the bar and Brian at the bar to help with choices. First time coming here (1/23/21). Made a reservation online, though I don't think you have to. Clean, open space. Friendly staff who are happy to describe the beers, offer recommendations, and provide some samples upon request. Good mask and social distancing policies/practices. Beers themselves were really good. Had full pours of Blue Comet (IPA), Twin Comet (DIPA), Ecstasy of Gold (IPA), and Kameosa (rice lager). The IPAs were all different enough which is always appreciated when some breweries serve multiple NEIPAs that are similar to each other. All very smooth. Kameosa was unlike other rice lagers I've had but we thought it was great. Little more spice and floral notes. We were told they offer flights during non-COVID times. For now, full pours only, served in disposable cups. The only negative part of the experience was not Widowmaker-specific, but something they should consider. I understand the law in Massachusetts is that places that serve alcohol require you to purchase food too, but you need better/more/cheaper options. Food For Thought was the on-site food truck and all they had was overpriced nachos... Tiny portion of store-bought chips and fake cheese. We got the ones with sausage and roasted peppers which cost $16 (plus tax and tip, of course). Even if it weren't for the unreasonable price, what if you have a dairy allergy? Are you supposed to just pay for a handful of generic tortilla chips? I'm not going to knock Widowmaker for this in this review but they should know this is an issue. I want to spend my money on good beer, not low-quality snack food. read more

Fantastic brewery! They are always coming up with creative beers. Last time I was there they had one with blueberries and Oreo. It sounds bizarre but a great combination. Like all places in the Covid world you have to order food. They have nachos available for purchase, plain or loaded. They are dog friendly. I think half the people there had a furry friend. Had known this place was opening soon and accidentally googled it on opening day trying to find out when it opened. Grabbed my friend and went straight over. Place was busy but not overwhelming. I overheard one of the staff saying they weren't sure if anyone would come because they didn't make a big deal of the opening and just announced it on Facebook. The space is great. Plenty of seating, a few bar games set up music was a little loud but got a little more subdued as we sat. Beer is IPA and hops heavy for my taste but they had six ready to sample and one was a very tasty stout called donut shop. We met what I think had to have been one of the owners mothers. She was bussing tables and sat down and asked us how we liked the beer. She was adorable. Looking forward to seeing how this place evolves. Nice selection of microbrews yet a surly, young waiter. They really need to improve their outdoor experience now that it's late May, COVID restrictions have ended and the weather has greatly improved. They have placed picnic tables outside on plain, hard, unfriendly and cold asphalt. When I go out I enjoy pleasant surroundings. Right now it's mega-industrial. Management needs to put out some feel good stuff (I'm thinking fern bar in the 1980's.) such as fabric, a lot of big, green leafy plants, maybe with blossoms, and vastly improved lighting. Table decoration would be appealing and music with a good sound system wouldn't hurt either. In general, they simply need to make the outdoor experience more friendly and inviting. read more

Stopped by after hiking at the Blue Hills. This brewery is quite spacious with plenty of table spaces. They have board games, darts, ring on a rope thing, and corn hole. My favorite thing about this place is that they have free snacks! It's just gold fish, pretzals, cheezits, and animal crackers, but it's better than nothing! There was also a food truck outside if you needed real food to munch on. I got to try a flight of 4 different beers. They were all pretty good. My favorite was their milkshake beer. It sounds weird but definitely give it a try! It's not a stout. It's a cloudy-ish yellow color. Has a slightly creamy, vanilla finish. I noticed a lot of the tables said that they were reserved. But when I looked closer, it said reserved at 5pm, and it was only 2pm. So make sure you check the signs on the table before you sit down! read more
