For a really popular place, we were pretty disappointed and pricey for the serving size. The interior is thoughtfully designed and worth seeing once. Lamb samosas (8.7): it was okay? Dishoom chicken tikka (14.9): NOT tikka masala! We were between this and the chicken ruby but were told it's just like butter chicken and were recommended this-- the highlight, chicken flavorful and tender, and I liked the pickled sides House black daal (11.7): their signature dish-- decent, pretty heavy and filling but nothing to sing about Roomali Roti (5.5): we were going to get the garlic naan, but the waiter said that's something you can get anywhere so we got the roti which he recommended-- however, this completely lacked flavor. I've had better roti in Malaysia and in the US lol Garlic naan (5.5): we ultimately got this because we didn't like the roti, but this also the garlic flavor was not shining through Other recommended dishes: chicken berry britannia with raita, charred lamb chops, murgh malai, okra fries Tip: you have to buy the rice, naan etc separately. Also heads up there's a 12.5% service charge.
Absolutely delicious dinner! We made reservations online about 2 months ago. 5:15 dinner worked well for us since we had a show at 7. We checked in on the lady with the tablet on the right side of the entrance. The left side is for walk ins. Super long line even at 5pm. But they were handing out small glasses of chai and something else. Anyway, the reservation line is short and they sat us right away. We wished we could have sat at the patio - it's covered. We didn't see that until we were already drinking. Well, next time! The ambiance - beautiful spot with lots and lots of tables. Every single one of them was taken. Tons of staff! They take good care of you here. Patrons vary, from dates to family dinners - the whole gamet! Come one, come all! The drinks came out right away. Dishoom IPA and chai. Beer came with a frosted glass. The chai was delicious! The food was amazing! Goan monkfish curry Ruby chicken Saffron cauliflower Garlic naan Basmati rice Everything was superb! I works happily go back tomorrow night!
I've been waiting for months to finally try Dishoom. We were starving by the time we arrived for iur reservation so we got plenty of food. We ordered the chicken ruby, the black daal which is their speciality, pav bhaji, bhel, biryani and garlic naan. The food tasted very comforting and not spicy l. The service was great and our waiter was attentive.
Having originally only went to Dishoom's Carnaby location, I came here for the first time because this is my friend's preferred Dishoom location. I see why she prefers coming here! The restaurant has gotta be like 4x the size of Carnaby. Not just that, the ambience is way better here. The tables are way more spaced out, so you don't feel super cramped. The open space helps negate the strong Indian spices that emanate from the kitchen. And it just feels way more comfortable. Anyways, our reservation was right at the tail end of the breakfast menu hours and right before the regular menu began, so we were able to get a Sausage & Egg Naan Roll to start. Also had the Lamb Biryani, Goan Monkfish Curry, Mutton Pepper Fry, and Murgh Malai. I mean basically everything at Dishoom is great, and this was no exception. Service was fantastic. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming! I love Dishoom, so you'll have to find a reason for me to not come here. Really good stuff!
Came here after many recommendations from friends and my Instagram feed--and it absolutely lived up to the hype. The vibe is warm and lively, the service was great, and the food was delicious . The Paneer, House Black Daal, roti and parathas, crispy okra, chai and lassi were all delicious. Definitely worth the wait, and I'd happily come back when in London!!
I'm probably going to get some hate for this but I only thought our meal was ok. Which bummed me out because I've been dying to try this place for years! We started with some yummy cocktails and the okra fries which were delicious - if only okra always tasted this good. For mains, we shared the chicken tikka, black daal, paneer and garlic naan. Pretty standard Indian order. The chicken tikka was just too spicy and we weren't used to that so it went mainly eaten. My favorite was the black daal but again, it wasn't so amazing that I would go and have it again. Honestly the best dish we had was dessert - the basmati kheer is a perfect rice pudding with crème brûlée like topping. So good. Service was spotty, I constantly found myself trying to find our server or make eye contact with him. They were slammed on a Tuesday night (which I'm sure is the case every night) so that's probably just the way things are but it could've been better. Disappointed but willing to try again, also made me want to try some other Indian spots in London next.
Went here yesterday for a celebration dinner. On the plus side, the restaurant is huge, tons and tons of seating. Prices aren't terrible. Food was really good, definitely some of the better Indian we've had. That said, service was slow and our celebration--which was acknowledged by the host enthusiastically--seemed to have been forgotten. A note: the dishes are not prepared to order so you can't choose your own spice level. One in our party ordered something that was delicious but couldn't be finished because it was too hot. I recommend it but it wouldn't be my every day choice for Indian.
Dishoom was incredible, my favorite meal in London! Everything was simple but perfectly well done - flavors were so good and delicious and everything we got was a great choice. We got pau bhaji to start, then naan, chicken ruby, and mattar paneer. I wish we got the daal too but we were full. They were also so generous and brought us complementary ice cream for my mom's birthday. We also got the shrikhand dessert, which truthfully wasn't really shrikhand but was still very yummy! Service was great and I really loved the vibe and interior decor of the place. Highly recommend if you are visiting London!
How did I not know Dishoom existed until now? Visiting London from California, this ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. It has to be some of the best Indian food I've had outside of India. The little complimentary chai while you wait in line is such a thoughtful touch and really sets the tone. Even though there was a queue, it moved surprisingly quickly. Once inside, the service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. As for the food... every dish we ordered was outstanding. Rich flavors, perfectly balanced spices, and you can tell a lot of care goes into every plate. Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. If you're in London, don't overthink it. Just get in line, enjoy the chai, order what sounds good, and have a fantastic meal. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in town.
Located in Covent Garden, you'll find this highly rated, recommended restaurant. The restaurant itself is pretty big. The seating area upstairs is spacious and there's a downstairs too. The staff are nice and polite and helpful with recommendations and today we ordered the Dishoom House Chaat, which was so good. Than the Biryani Lamb. Oh boy the lamb inside was so tender, so delicious and lastly we got the Chicken Ruby that was good and had a really nice kick to it. I can see why it's so popular. I definitely want to eat here again if we have time I would love to try their other dishes.
We had wonderful service here! Dishoom is a popular place but the dinner line for 3 on a weeknight wasn't too bad (they don't take reservations), I thought the line moved fairly fast and at some point they handed out small sample cups of chai to us which was nice. It's very spacious inside. Although their black bean dish Black House Daal is popular, I don't think it's something I'd reorder because I don't like beans that much in general. As a chicken tikka masala fan, I enjoyed their butter chicken the most. It's the closest thing they have to chicken tikka masala--which they don't have, they only have chicken tikka which is dry and quite spicy, has no creamy sauce. I also liked the okra fried, which is a type of fry I'm not used to seeing! It's got flavor, and I also loved the chutney and sauces on the table! I enjoyed a Dishoom Margarita which was strong in alcohol content and flavor, and a nice addition to the meal. They have an interesting drink menu, where you will find lots of nonalcoholic and rather healthy options! They have a small shelf in the middle of the room where they sell some of their chai and cookbooks amongst other things.
Dishoom absolutely lived up to the hype! We were a little nervous because we didn't have reservations, but the staff was incredibly accommodating and found a way to get us seated. It was well worth the weight. We ordered lamb samosas, sheekh kebab, chicken ruby, and both the garlic and onion naan. Every dish was packed with incredible flavor, and it was easy to see why this has such a loyal following. The chicken rub was especially outstanding, and the noun was the perfect accompaniment. The service made the experience even better. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to offer recommendations that did not disappoint. This was one of our favorite meals on our London trip. We only wish they would open a location in the United States!
Some days this place would be jam packed, but other days I passed by, it seems chill. I recommend making reservations if you can. I came here on a weekday night and waited about one hour for a party of five. While waiting in line, they offered a cup of hot chai tea which was perfect for the cold weather. The chai is absolutely delicious. The Chicken Ruby, Okra Fries, and Masala Prawns were my favorite dishes. House Black Daal is their signature dish, which is good to try. The restaurant is dimly lit for an intimate family dinner, but a bit loud. The restrooms are clean. The staff is friendly. I only give them 4/5 because the curries are pretty comparable to places I've been to before, but if I have to recommend one dish and one drink - Okra Fries and Chai Tea.

It is well known that London has a sprawling Indian food scene that serves some of the best Indian cuisines outside of India. Dishoom, a small chain of seven "Bombay Cafes", is definitely on the top of the list for both locals and tourists alike. Online reservations can be made for breakfast and lunch only. They do not accept reservations for dinner and the only way to get in is the old traditional way - stand in line! There have been times when we walked past a Dishoom during dinner hours and saw lines wrapping around the block. The "Bombay Café" style features a casual but moderately upscale and comfortable environment with cool vibes. The atmosphere is friendly and vibrant, and is always a perfect place to chill, and to grab some yummy Indian food with a couple of bottles of Kingfisher. VEGETABLE SAMOSAS: The skin was paper-thin and fried to a perfect crispiness that when I sank my teeth into it, the skin just crumbled and melted away while the filling made with veggies and mashed potatoes greeted my mouth with a warmly spicy yumminess. CHICKEN RUBY: It looked like a variation of the famous tikka Marsala which was a tomato based curry with cubed chicken breast meat. The ruby dish, however, came with makhani sauce which was silky and smooth. It really tasted like tikka Marsala but with a stronger flavor of ginger and garlic. It had a nice balance of sweetness versus spiciness and was delicious beyond words. GUNPOWDER POTATOES: If you asked me to recommend a "must-order" item then this is it, not just because it was so amazingly good, but also because you can't find this anywhere else. Skin-on potatoes were fire grilled, cut into pieces, then sautéed with butter and an abundance of peppers and exotic spices. It was without a doubt one of the most memorable potato dishes that I've ever had. We also had a roti to mop up the sauce from the ruby chicken, some rice, and a bowl of vegetables. Everything was good beyond belief. 5 stars+ read more

I have to say this restaurant is overrated. Their food is good, but it's not that good. They do not take reservations. We waited for about 35 minutes or so outside and then 15 minutes or so at the bar downstairs. Once again, their food is good but I don't think it's worth waiting for close to an hour. We ordered the lamb chops (my favorite), murgh malai, and chicken ruby. I would give 4 stars for the food, but with the long wait, I cannot give more than 3 stars. Pro-Tip: Even if the queue looks relatively short outside, it's likely to be a long wait as there are people waiting for their tables at the bar downstairs. I would not return to Dishoom nor do I recommend this to anyone. There are many other good restaurants in London and there's also better way to spend time than waiting in line. ****************************** If you found something useful in my review, please hit "useful" so that I can improve my reviews. My only complaint about this restaurant is that we didn't find it sooner on our trip to London. Everything we ordered (of which we forgot to take pictures of because we ate it so fast) was amazing! From the aroma to the multiple levels of taste of the spices, it makes what is a food experience like no other. Stepping I to the restaurant transport you to another part of the world filled with music and an atmosphere that sets the mood. The staff is helpful and very accommodating. I only wish we were able to stay longer and try everything on the menu. I guess that's why I purchased the cookbook. read more

Loved the complimentary drinks while waiting in line outside. The teens walked the shops while we waited. I was told it's always busy, but that it's totally worth it. So true! Amazing friendly service. Seated is earlier than expected. The place is bigger than you think, with more seating areas tucked every which way! Food- very good. Drinks- creative, classy, and creative. I loved the Colada. Can't say food was better than a restaurant in the states, but the ambience was exquisite! read more

Decided to come try out Dishoom while on a trip to London since it was one the "must-try" Indian restaurants in the city. We went to Covent Garden location as it was close to the area we were exploring. There was a long line to get in but it went by pretty past and they even served us House Chai while we waited which tasted great! I tried the Chicken Ruby with garlic naan. I asked the waiter for a dish similar to Butter Chicken and she mentioned that the Chicken Ruby was basically the same thing. While I enjoyed the dish, it did not taste like butter chicken and was actually very different. Forgot the name of the drink I got but it was delicious! read more

Food was absolutely fantastic. The service was great and fast. And it's casual inside but you can tell it's popular. 10/10 Will come back every single time I'm back in London. read more
Yes, yes, and more yes. This restaurant had been on my list for years and has always been on the top restaurants list and I finally understand why. SO GOOD. The vibe was epic, felt like a trendy living room - cozy, dark, and well decorated. The perfect mix of upscale but also very comfortable. Service was good! Food was even better! We sat downstairs and ordered a ton from the menu - all small plates so a good place for sharing. The chicken ruby and cheese naan were standouts. They don't do reservations which is a bit of a bummer but they have the line down to a science. We technically waited about 45 mins at dinner time on Thursday but it felt like less. They greet you with 3 choices of complimentary non-alcoholic beverages in line outside and then once you get inside you can order drinks and apps at the bar while you wait for the table. So it's actually a two step line. Be prepared! But truly worth it! read more

Came for a quick breakfast and got the big Bombay, which is an English breakfast but with an Indian twist. It was amazing and I understand why Dishoom is one of London's most popular restaurants. The house chai tea latte was also great. read more

Our 1st time here. Excellent service, very efficient quick turnaround time. Don't be too intimidated by the long line out the door. It moves fairly quickly because they are so efficient. Ambiance is nice albeit on the loud/noisy side as it is packed. Food was decently portioned. We ordered the chili cheese bread, house chaat, pau bhaji, chicken ruby aka butter chicken, house black daal, plain naan, garlic naan, and rice. Chili cheese bread had a nice spicy kick. Out of what we ordered, my faves were the pau bhaji (full of flavor and spice) and chicken ruby (also with great flavor and spice, but not too spicy). For those that like more heat and are use to spicy Indian food, this might not be spicy enough. They don't let u pick spice level here. The house chaat was decent. My least favorite was their house daal which i found to be rich/buttery tasting but bland and no heat at all. Would love to come back one day to try their special fish and other dishes on their extensive menu. Decently priced menu, at least similar to other Indian restaurants in the area we've tried. read more

This place is amazing! The prices, the quality of food, the ambiance, all great. We ordered 2-3 appetizers and sides and 2 entrees and it was more than enough for us. The food was so great, we could've come back again during our trip. The service was really good too. There was a line out the door to get on the wait list so plan accordingly. Otherwise, this place is definitely worth going to! read more

About as good as it gets. Most recent visit, got the black daal and regular naan to start, followed by the chicken ruby with roomali roti. (It was a lot for a solo lunch...) The black daal is amazing, although there's so much else I want to try here it's hard to say whether I'd get it again next time. The chicken ruby, on the other hand, would be hard to ever skip -- I get that this is the most basic of Indian dishes, but it's so incredible, and the one here is probably my favorite. Of course, the naan (both the regular and, especially, the garlic) are amazing too. I really liked the roti as well, but it wasn't at the same level as the naan in my opinion, and actually made me appreciate how incredible the roti is at Roti King (where I went for the first time on this trip). Overall, really amazing food for surprisingly cheap prices, if you can get in... read more

This restaurant came highly recommended by our tour guide. It was soul crushing when I saw the line. But after deciding to jump in it was only about a 30 minute wait. And they have heating lamps outside for folks in line. It's a very romantic dinner vibe at night so hard to get good pics. Our waiter was amazing I wish I remembered his name. Everything we ordered was excellent and the basmati rice pudding dessert was the best dessert I ever ate! read more

Enjoyed every single dish I've tried here on my second visit (needed to try more after being wow-ed on my first visit. The one hour wait was worth it. -Service: Attentive. -Food: House black daal was beyond amazing, and I'm not usually a huge fan of daal. I thought I'd try it since it was highly recommended as a popular dish. Chicken Ruby was nicely creamy and flavorful (Heads up, it's a small serving for a main dish). Okra fries were good with a light batter (loved mixing the spicy chutney with the sweet tamarind chutney for the okra dip). Paneer Tikka was mildly spicy and a solid choice. This came with some grilled bell peppers and onions. Jackfruit Biryani was done very well - the spice flavors paired well with the curry dishes. Raita cooled down the spiciness of the hot chutney. Two thumbs up. Passionfruit Sharbat is very simple, but it's very satisfying. It's basically just fresh passionfruit, soda and mint. Atmosphere: Always packed with a long line. Loud inside, but still feels cozy with the dim lighting. read more
finally got to try dishoom which had been the top of my list for a while! id heard raving reviews so my expectations were high but first, context: i am a student in a budget and was dining with just another broke student, so price was a consideration. thus we had to choose our dishes wisely - vegetable samosa: 3/5. the taste was standard, but quite small. i expected maybe two samosas but each large, instead of four small ones. - the masala fish chef's special: 5/5. god, the star of the show. it was unique, wrapped in a bamboo leaf, packed with flavor and slightly crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. paired very nicely with the coconut chaas, which i LOVED (tasted like strawberry yogurt) - bowl of greens: 3/5. i mean, its just broccoli and snow peas, but they did the job of serving as a break from the savoriness - chicken tikka: 4/5. we ordered this after realizing that what we got was not enough. in terms of price, this was the best value. the chicken was tender and, though it is plain in color, PACKED with lots of spice, so have water ready. came with a side of red onion and parsley. overall service was a 5/5: our waitress was sweet and came to check on us several times but not in an annoying way. also the payment system is v high tech! read more
We got to Soho and there was a long wait to get in this restaurant. I was so excited because I wanted to know if the hype of it all was represented in the food. When we went in I smelled all the aroma of something great as far as Indian food. Everyone seem to be having such a great time and the Decor was just very eclectic and homey. I will say everyone who worked there was super nice and the service was great. However, I did not like the food. I looked around and there was another couple at the other table across from us and it didn't appear that they liked the food either. We ordered the samosas and they were tiny and crunchy and not like a regular Samosa at all. Didn't like these and wouldn't order these again. I also ordered the butter chicken and I was not a fan of the butter chicken, it had another name on the menu but basically this is what it was...The chicken was fatty and had some skin on it and the sauce was gritty almost pasty. My friend got the lamb chops and they were over cooked. There was an OK flavor there but when you over cook lamb chops that is kind of a terrible thing. I got a drink and the drink was OK but nothing to write home about. The garlic naan was gross. It didn't have a garlic flavor at all.I think the atmosphere here was far better than the food. My experience at another Indian restaurant here was far better than Dishoom. read more
