We have been going here for years. They have good food, reasonable prices and, friendly staff.

Everything we got that was fried was wayyy over fried. The calamari just tasted like over cooked batter. A lot of the calamari just broke into dust pieces, it was awful. The fried shrimp was also over fried and so was the chicken on the fried chicken salad. My steak and cheese was sooo underwhelming, it tasted like frozen "steak em's." The fries were good, thank goodness. But for the price, it wasn't worth it. The staff was amazing and the store was fun (but overpriced which was expected due to the tourism of this area.) If I were to come back, I'd steer clear of anything fried. read more

We are here as a large group of 17 people. The group has appetizers, cocktails, and entrees. I had the Crabby Mary to drink, which was their upscale Bloody Mary. It came garnished with a shrimp and crab leg in addition to olives, peppers, and celery. The seasoning salt in the Bloody Mary was the best I've had and it had just a touch of a kick to it. It was very enjoyable and I was able to split open my crab leg and soak it in the drink before enjoying. The Broiled Seafood platter had a little bit of everything. There was crab cake, flounder, jumbo shrimp and sea scallops served with veggies and their andouille rice. It was a ton of food, but everything was full of flavor and fresh. My favorite part was the crab cake. Being from the Midwest, the crab cakes are more breading and seasoning than crab. This crab cake, the large chunks of crab were barely held together with breading and seasoning. I was able to take home half of a meal to enjoy the next day. read more

Dirty Dick's Crab House - Nags Head - Broiled Seafood Platter - Seafood Near Me - Nags Head, North Carolina

Nags Head, Outer Banks, NC. Not bad. Service was amazing, but the food was just about average. The hush puppies were really good, but the fried scallops were a bit overdone and rubbery. Not terrible, just not done quite right. Overall, I'd probably give the place another shot down the road, next time I'm in town. Was hoping for better, but we got "just ok." read more

Really underwhelming with some food being just downright not good, even down to the way the water tasted. The service was below expectations and a hair was found in our food. 10/10 would not recommend read more

As good as it gets for vacation dining. A nice variety of fresh seafood served by friendly waitstaff, kicked off by a funny host. Although it's not waterfront, the decor really brings you there. Hush puppies are complimentary and great to snack on while you peruse the menu. Though it may seem like standard fare, they do put little twists here and there that make the food memorable. The all-you-can-eat seafood fry is a great deal, especially if you start with the scallops-- plump and juicy! The deal is you choose one fried item, then another once you finish the first serving. Their brand is also a real standout... who doesn't have fun saying they got crabs at Dirty Dick's?! LOL read more

We visited Dirty Dick's on October 12th on a visit to Nag's Head and our dinner was delicious. We saw billboards coming into the Outer Banks and thought they were funny. I'm so glad we decided to stop! My husband's stuffed flounder was heavenly and the sauce was rich and savory. My steamed snow crab legs were perfect and our hush puppies were hot and fresh. We both ordered frozen drinks. I chose a peach margarita and he picked a Bushwacker. Both were very tasty and came in a souvenir cup. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was fun if a little loud ... but definitely relaxed and enjoyable. After all, we chose to eat at a restaurant called Dirty Dick's. We weren't expecting it to be quiet and dimly lit. In the end, it's on our list to visit next time we vacation in Nag's Head and we've recommended it to our friends. It's worth the stop. read more

Came here for dinner. We got the calamari and fried pickles; they were good. They forgot to give us the utensils. The hushpuppies were fried to long and soaked up some oil. I got the Mariner 's Platter (fried shrimps, oysters, scallops, fish, and crab cake). It was good overall. Crab cake was flavorful, wish they were more careful and picked out the shell. I wasn't a fan of the fried scallops. Overall, it was good. The server was friendly, but the service was a bit slow. read more

I have eaten here twice and each time I had enjoyed myself. The staff was friendly and the food was woo

I'm not an expert on hush puppies, but Dirty Dick's has some of the best I've ever tasted. Now onto the rest of the food. I ordered a 1/2 dozen steamed crabs. The server was pretty ambiguous about the size of the crabs, but I went for it anyway. They were small, but I was given 8 instead of 6. For the rest of my party, food was solid all around. I did order the the she-crab soup, which apparently very popular in this area. I don't have a basis for comparison, but it was very creamy and flavorful. My younger son isn't into crab, but enjoyed it as well. Large spacious dining area, but it does get busy; so be prepared to wait during peak meal times. read more

The moment we walked in, we were politely greeted, sat down and given a great background of the restaurant by Jim. A very knowledgeable person. We were greeted by the waiter and he was great recommending different entrées. We had a dozen and half of local oysters which were flavorful and a pretty good size for the season. We ordered pounded. We got a pound of shrimps were which were a good size and very flavorful. Also, we ordered a pound of Crab! Delicious!! We enjoyed the ambience. Darko helped with the table. He was at our beck and call as we needed different things. He was readily available! He had a great personality and very personable! The personnel was amazing nice and I do recommend this establishment read more

We went here for outer banks "taste of the beach" and we had the classic outer banks 4x4 and the study of the oyster. Food was good, but the service was outstanding. We had the pleasure of Kellye helping us for the evening and she was more than helpful and went out of her way to ensure the evening was memorable. I would definitely eat here again! and I would recommend asking for Kellye read more

I traveled solo to KDH to get away and was excited to be able to get a king crab seafood boil. I added the extra boil and it was all bland with no flavor at all. The crab had a decent amount of meat so that was a huge plus. The one star had nothing to do with the food and everything to do with the TERRIBLE service. Let's start of with the manager(?) Jim. He stopped over and seemed nice at first and made some conversation. After that he came over a couple more times and would make conversation but in a manner that made me feel very uncomfortable. In between these conversations and throughout the night he would stare at me from the other side of the restaurant. At one point I over heard him loudly joking with another server saying "That's why they call me Dirty Jim!" Now my server (who was also the bartender), was attentive at first but as the meal went on she would disappear for a while and then pop back up behind the bar. She seemed a little "erratic" as the evening went on, but I thought maybe she had some health issue that was causing it so I didn't pay anymore to it. After about an hour being there she was acting extremely erratic and in a manner that could make you think she was under the influence of something. She finally came over what felt like a couple hours later (I could be exaggerating but it seemed it) asked if I wanted the check and I said yes. Now a longer time passed and she came back and realized she forgot to bring the check over and at this point it became very obvious that she was under the influence of something other than alcohol. She was moving around erratically, flailing her arms around and contorting her body in unnatural awkward positions. The manager and all the servers noticed and said nothing which made it seem like it was a common occurrence. When she came back with the check, I immediately gave her my credit card which took her way too long to bring back to me as she continued to act in the same erratic manner. I had to sit on the phone with a friend the whole time to prevent the manager from coming up and talking to me , and because I felt so uncomfortable I could not make any sort of complaint to management about her behavior. read more

Place is just good ole' fun. Food is good, not great, but if you are coming here it is also more for the vibe and energy. Great location. Their other fish entrees are worth trying. Must see if you are in the OBX! read more

On our last night in OBX it's my son's birthday. He wanted lobster and crabs and he got to choose the restaurant. We came in around 4pm or so and were sat immediately. Dirty Dick's Crab House - Nags Head - My son enjoying his Birthday dinner! - Seafood Near Me - Nags Head, North Carolina

The manager Rob is weird, and the food is absolute trash. I don't mind spending the money but for that food, oh nah. that's all!

We've eaten here several times over the years, and we've eaten many times at other locations too. I always get the spiced shrimp and it can sometimes be over cooked, but usually still okay. Not this time though. Everything we had was over cooked horribly. the spiced shrimp was mushy it was so over cooked. My wife's chicken tenders where like eating stringed chicken you needed to drink water with to wash it down. Service was okay and our waitress very nice. However, I think we're we're done trying to eat at any Dirty Dick's from now on. Over the years, they're too inconsistent for the money you spend. The only thing we ordered that wasn't cooked twice it seemed was the raw oysters. They were good. read more

We were sat immediately. Our server, Ethan, was excellent! He recommended the most delightful crab melt, full of cheese and crab. We also had the fried gator tail bites which were pretty darn good. Definitely freshly fried. My boyfriend had the fried crab lasagna and really enjoyed that. Walking in, I was a little nervous. The vibes were a little 1990's long John silvers. However, their drinks were the perfect mix of stout and sweet. The hush puppies you get with each meal were a nice choice. They were a little bland and cold as if they had been made a while ago. The steamed shrimp was also lacking a little flavor, however the cocktail sauce made up for it. The fried shrimp was amazing and their French fries were to die for. I liked my fish tacos. Our server was excellent. Very attentive. Overall great experience. I would go back again for the drinks and the fried shrimp. read more

Dirty Dick's Crab House - Nags Head - Mai Tai Fried Shrimp or Oyster Poboy* - Seafood Near Me - Nags Head, North Carolina

I would leave no stars if possible. We had a large party and had a hard time finding a restaurant to accommodate us at the last minute, so we settled on dirty dicks. We were seated quickly but it was all down hill from there. I got half a pound of snow crab and half a pound of the spiced shrimp. My expectations were high since we're at the beach... ordering.. *seafood*. However I am typing this review while sitting on my toilet. None of the food was fresh. It all tasted like it had been cooked days before and was barely reheated. Just when we thought it couldn't get worse, a couple of us went to the bathroom to wash our hands - and holy sh*t. If we had seen the state of the bathroom before our meal we would have NEVER eaten here. And the restrooms are a place the business knows the customer is going to see. Imagine the state of the kitchen where there's no expectation a customer will see! read more

Everything (including the hush puppies) came out cold. The crab was crusted with old bay spice and that's about all you could taste. The sandwiches are overpriced as a second option to the seafood of which there are no local options. 10/10 do not recommend as a seafood destination. read more

Very expensive with mediocre choices . Food was good, but the place has carpeted floors which give the place a fishy , musty smell.

Always come here when in town. Staff is fantastic! Food is enjoyable. Atmosphere is great!

Came to this restaurant because of the name, lol! The food was great! Staff was awesome. Pleasantly surprised. Would definitely recommend.

Placed a to-go order for a quick lunch. The hostess was very pleasant and attentive. However, she failed to inform me that a to-go surcharge would be automatically included on my bill and to all to-go orders. Not cool that this was not communicated. Any extra/unknown charges should be shared to all patrons and/or signage posted. An extra $6.40 for a to-go order is a bit excessive. Beyond that, the experience was good. The food was tasty. The best gator tails I've had. read more

We had a really wonderful server, he was the best part of eating here. He said he was here in the outer banks working for the summer. We got the sauteed mussels, she crab soup, louisiana shrimp scampi, and linguine and clams. The soup was too cheesy and thick, but the mussels were pretty tasty, especially with the bread. Both pasta dishes were HUGE portions. i thought the scampi would've been better without the cheese. The linguine and clams was just okay. the scampi was def better and more flavorful. read more

Nothing really special about this place (expensive beer), had a light dinner..clam chowder wasn't bad, fried gator tail was as no big deal, left over half of it. The chicken andouille jambalaya (side dish) was not worth it.
