We ate dinner here last night. I had seen multiple advertisements for this place on the drive down here so I was looking forward to trying this place. It was a disappointing experience. 3 of us ordered the The Monster Fish sandwiches. I was excited to try it because the description on their menu said the fish would be "hanging off the plate". Well that part was true, however I usually expect my food to be cooked unless it's sushi. All our fish were pink throughout. When I told the waiter he sent it back to tell the kitchen staff. The waiter brings back my order and said it's pink because of the type of fish it is. He also reported that cooking it more wont make it whiter. Whatever. We ate the fries and any white meat we could pick off the fish. The Monster Burger that someone ordered was too pink. Usually burgers are cooked well done or medium well unless the waiter asks how you want it cooked. The waiter didn't ask so I guess the cook gets to decide. Only half the burger was eaten. So basically we paid full price for half orders. I rated this place 2 stars for these reasons: The only dish that appeared edible was the cake crabs one of us ordered. Covid 19 precautions seemed to be observed by the staff as they wore masks and spaced out the tables. Lastly, the complimentary hush puppies were tasty. Sadly the 4:5 entrees they served will keep us away from any future visits. read more

This place smells terrible. The oil that the food is fried also has a noticeable smell. The service was good, and the prices are no higher or lower than the rest of the Outer Banks, but the food is decidedly avoidable. We ate fried clam strips- too much batter, and too strong a taste of oil that has been used before. Fried shrimp- same problem. Fries- limp, and decidedly mediocre. And hush puppies- ok, but a whole meal cannot rest on acceptable hush puppies. Definitely not going back. read more

I'm literally sitting in the restaurant writing this review because I couldn't wait. This place is awesome. About half their restaurant are high tops and the other half are low top tables and they went out of their way to seat us with a high chair as quickly as possible. They literally have 3 people busing, cleaning, and prepping our table for us. The service is great, the food is delicious and the Bloody Mary's are our favorite so far in OBX. We recommend the Calamari, King Crab Legs, Shrimp & Scallop Boat and the Fried Crab Lasagna! read more

Was passing thru from Topsail on way to Chesapeake, VA. We spied this place from the Christmas mouse and thought it looked neat. Quick check of the menu and thought it looked good as well. Everything was good until the waiter came over. It was all downhill from there. He was just not good. Messed my sons order up and then attempted to charge us twice for it. "Oh the computer did that, hahahaha". Sure. The hush pupps were ok, nothing to get hot and bothered over. My Cuban and my sons Cuban sandwiches tasted horrible. My wife's fish tacos were also bad. I ended up leaving him a $15 tip because he disappeared and I got tired of waiting for change. Place was dated and everything was sticky. If I ever return to the OBX, I will not eat here. Eh. Service was quick, however the food is just okay. I got a pound of the "spiced shrimp" which was claimed to be seasoned with old bay...what came to the table had the slightest dusting of spices. Also got it "low country boil" style.....which got me one red potato, a slice of mystery meat "andouille sausage" which wasn't edible and corn, all of which was bland with no seasoning whatsoever. Based on its name this seems like a place you have to try at least once while you're in town. We came here for dinner, got oysters as an appetizer and we shared the trinity platter. It was just the 2 of us and we finished it. Our server seemed surprised that we did, it makes me wonder if people order this and don't finish it frequently. That would be insane if a couple or group ordered it and did not finish it, it would be a waste of food and money. All of it was delicious, the shrimp, crab legs, clams, corn, sausage & potatoes. If you and a few friends or significant other want to split this I say go for it, it was great. It tasted fresh, it was a bit pricey, but I expect that for seafood honestly. We ordered fried pickles and they came fast but had a weird taste; maybe they were bread and butter pickles not dill. We ate them anyway because we were hungry. Then we proceeded to wait 45 minutes for soup and salad. Drinks sat empty for 30 minutes. I was chewing ice. The soup arrived cold. How does soup arrive cold? It literally has to go from a soup pot to the table. Unless it sat ready long enough to go cold. My salad with no add-ons was $5.99. My daughter ordered Mahi on her salad. And it was $26. My fault. I should have asked the price but assumed it would be somewhere in the ballpark of the grilled shrimp add on of $7.99. The Mahi was grilled and unseasoned. It was dry and barely edible. Kind of the taste and texture of crappy Tilapia. No napkins on our table. Occasionally I saw our waitress but that was when she attending to someone across the empty room. I would have been more forgiving if it was rush hour or she was working the room alone. But the room was nearly empty and I saw 2 other waiters diligently attending to their few tables. And finally the bathroom was so disgusting. Before meal I only washed my hands in the bathroom. Had we seen the conditions of the stalls, we wouldn't have eaten here. Don't let the name of the restaurant scare you away. Dirty Dick's serves up quite a tasty meal! My friend and I were visiting from out of town. What drew us to dine here first? Honestly the name got us laughing. We stopped in on a Monday evening. We were seated immediately to start our meal. Since we aren't used to the seafood variety, we shared the Gator Bites to start. The gator tail is breaded to perfection with a side of jalapeno ranch sauce. They are spicy so be prepared with your water. I can't complain because I love spicy food. Had I known they serve a complimentary basket of hush puppies, I wouldn't have ordered a deep fried item but I powered through. For the main meal we shared the Stuffed Flounder. Wow. I was so happy we were sharing because this plate held a lot of food. The flounder is pan fried and topped with a fresh crab cake and shrimp. Sounds delicious right? Well they then drizzle lemon chive butter for extra decadents. I was filled up with a wonderful dinner. With the great service, I will put this on my bookmarks for my next visit to NC. We recently visited the Outer Banks, (usually go to Hilton Hilton head and now I know why.) we had a number of things to celebrate (3 birthdays, a graduation, anniversary, and a few other milestones) so we took our party of 9 out to dinner. We hoped for a great crab leg dinner. After being seated, ordering our drinks, and deciding what we wanted, the waitress informed us they were out of snow crab and also out of king crab. Had I know this before sitting down, we would have left. IT IS UNFORGETTABLE TO BE OUT OF AN ITEM THAT IS IN YOUR MENU. I would have given a 0 star review if I could. We ordered a large 12 person togo order at 3:00 PM and were told to pick up at 5:00 PM and we're on time, yet the food tasted like it was sitting there for an hour. Everything was cold. This place was a let down. We went because other places around were closed for the off season. The service was great. No complaints there. The food though was a let down. Ordered the fried flounder and it was mushy. I feel like that was frozen. They returned it and we had the fried shrimp that were good enough. We ordered the steamed clams for an appetizer. We expected steamed clams with butter. While they were good, they came prepared in a sauce with creamy lemon and tomato. The menu didn't explain that. Then the crab "lasagna". It was so weird. It was like a crab cake stuffed into a tube of dough, with ? Ricotta? Sauce in it served over marinara sauce. It tasted strange and just simply put, not good. Prices are $20 a plate and up. The waitress had us move tables after we had already gotten situated and were looking at the menu because she said it would be "inconvenient for her" to hand us our food. She made several offhand comments about our toddler (who was being as good as gold). For example, our toddler is in the picky phase so we ordered her fries, the waitress said "uh are you sure that's all she will eat?" She made us feel very rushed and like we were a bother to her the whole time. The restaurant has the potential to be fun but it was a little dirty. One of my friend's shrimp platter was frozen shrimp cooked too long and under flavored and the other friend's plate had the distinct flavor of frozen veggies and fish, that was reheated up. We come to OBX every year & every year we come here! I always forget to take pictures but I did remember to take one single picture this time because this drink..? Holy smokes it was DELICIOUS! All of the drinks we ordered had no complaints about but.. The bartender had a little bit of a heavy hand on some drinks, I'm definitely not complaining! There was a 45-50 minute wait, no biggie. They were understaffed, a man who I believe was the manager, was even helping in the kitchen with food. Thats a sign of a great manager. Our waitress (I cannot remember her name, blonde hair, foreign accent) was very kind & stayed on top of everything even with a full restaurant. Food was great, seasoning was great. I'm not a huge fan of seafood so I got the chicken & shrimp basket, both were great. Its hard to find genuinely fresh chicken tenders nowadays! The first clusters had old bay seasoning on them sigh, my fault I didn't ask, it came with drawn butter, sausage, red potatoes and corn which I ate none of lol just stuck with crab and hush puppies which were super crisp! In MHO, the old bay just overpowered the delicate crab taste, so the next rounds I had Shontel, (our very sweet waitress) ask them to skip the seasoning and NOW it was a crab fest! Just delicious, delicate crab . I definitely felt I ate my dollars worth here, although Shontel seemed shocked I was done after four clusters, I felt good lol. S had the fried all you can eat, he loved the fish, he, myself and my son tried the fried chicken off his plate and it was great as well! My Daughter had the crabby melt and said it was great and my son had the ribs which were meaty but our least favorite as they had way too much BBQ sauce, but tasty nonetheless. I drove by what seemed like a billion signs for Dirty Dicks. I was craving crabs so my family and I stopped in. Inside, it was less than impressive. Kind of dingy looking. I decided I will try the food still. My heart was set on crabs until I saw that they only have drawn butter for them. I love garlic butter, Cajun seasoning or just another option. I asked if they had garlic butter and the waitress looked at me like I had three heads. I went for the monster fish sandwich instead along with butter beans. The butter beans is what saved this meal, ya'll. Those beans were so daggon good! I'd like that recipe. The fish sandwich was meh. Which is why the two stars. The fish fell apart everywhere. It was so hard to eat this sandwich. Yes, it was monster. No, I wouldn't order again. It was a pain in the butt to eat and I gave up after two bites. I've had many monster fish sandwiches (I live in Charleston, SC) and they usually hold together well enough to enjoy the sandwich. The fries on the side didn't seem fresh. Came out looking like a sirloin and over cooked. Sent back and got the same again. They said they were out of filets but could sub a sirloin. My husband and I were so hungry because we had been driving around for hours trying to find a place open off-season. This place got many great reviews. Although I got a shrimp po boy that I didn't think could get too messed up they didn't put anything but shrimp lettuce tomato and pickles on there despite the fact that their menu stated that it came with red gravy which I was excited for. Crabby Dicks is located just prior to the Food Lion Shopping center at MP 10.5 The restaurant had some cute decor(reminiscent of a sailor's shanty). The menu was huge: fried, steamed, etc... The table had an eye catching special: AYCE crab legs, steamed shrimp, fried shrimp, fried fish, and fried scallops. They also include boiled potatoes, sausage and corn. OMG, just re-reading this has overwhelmed me! There are hush puppies to start the meal. The server started out with the steam crab legs and proceeded to bring the other items once I completed each entree. They don't combine the items so if you want a variety, then order your next choice once your selection arrive. Everything was hot and fresh. Hubby ordered the fried shrimp platter. He was surprised at the large portion. Services was great! We always had full glasses of soda and tea. This is definitely a better option than "the buffet' served at other OBX locations. read more

My husband and I ate here Monday night. It was after 8 when we arrived but the restaurant didn't close till 9. The manager, I think that's who he was, was going to seat us at one of the taller bar style tables, but I asked if we could sit at a lower table because of my bad legs. So he did. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. She didn't rush us at all. We first ordered a bowl of the She Crab Soup which was real good with plenty of crab in it. We knew if was getting late so we went ahead before we finished our soup and let her know we decided to order something else from the menu. We decided to share the crab cake dinner since it came with 2, some potatoes and green beans. The crab cakes were delicious and full of good crabmeat with a yummy flavor. My husband didn't even need to add his Old Bay I keep in my purse wherever we go because so many restaurants will say what they have is that, but one taste and we know it's not. The hushpuppies they brought out were really good too. We ate them all. I would have given them 5 stars except I felt the green beans were undercooked. I'm wondering if the kitchen staff rushed them or if that's how they always serve them? I like them crispy tender. But these were a not exactly that. I also have to hand it to the gentleman who mans the gift shop inside. He had come up to our table to ask if we might be wanting to shop in the gift shop after we finished eating. I told him probably not to go ahead and close but thanked him for asking first. We had been reading the menu board of things from the steamer and we were curious how big the Lg Blue Crabs were. Our waitress told us they were 7 inches across. Six of them was $39. Sounded like a fair price since we paid a little more up near Annapolis, MD for the same amount and size. As we were leaving my husband asked the manager about the raw oysters and if they were good ones and a nice size. We had eaten at BK Shuckers last time about 2 weeks ago and he was disappointed in them because they were small. He was told the ones they had were from Louisiana and he showed my husband a couple of unshucked ones. He said they've been pretty good and plump inside. So I think my husband wants to go back and try them. The sign said 1/2 dozen for $9.99. ( I know we'll never find the deal like we had up in Deale, MD on a special evening, in season, for 0.25 each! Both my husband and son were ecstatic over them! ) I hope when we return we will have as pleasant an experience as this time. My family and I ate at Dirty Dick's the Saturday after Thanksgiving, 2022. Good food, good service, and a nice, family-friendly atmosphere. Would definitely recommend the Broiled Seafood Platter! On a more personal note, I would like to express my gratitude to the gentleman (manager or possibly an owner?) that was making rounds on guests while we were there. I was breastfeeding my then 2 month-old son at our table. Having endured some rude behavior from close family members regarding breastfeeding in public, I was slightly uncomfortable with the situation; however, my son needed to be fed. The gentleman that stopped by to ask if we needed anything was very polite, asked how the food was, and checked to see if we needed anything. As he was walking away, he stopped suddenly, turned, and said, "I just now realized what you were doing! That's great; I'm a big supporter of breastfeeding." It meant so much to have someone be so complimentary and non-judgmental to an exhausted, frustrated mom. I truly appreciate the kindness! read more

We stopped in for lunch on a rainy and cold day. The ambiance was welcoming and although it was just after the lunch hour, we found many of the tables occupied. They offer a variety of fried and steamed seafood. I selected a nice fried shrimp platter along with a starter of half pound of steamed shrimp. The shrimp were definitely a good size. The night prior at a place in Duck, we had the smallest shrimp I had ever seen. Dirty Dicks definitely out-sized the other restaurant with their large platter of fried shrimp and fries. Dinner was broiled crabcakes with lump jumbo crab meat (oh my goodness). A half pound of snow crab legs with a side of corn was delicious. My husband enjoyed the best fried shrimp in his life. Sat at the bar with a party of three. The fried shrimp Po boy sandwich was huge. Shrimp were fried delicately and very tasty. The bread was delicious. The house-made potato chips were very good. All in all, a tasty and very large plate of food for a lunch, the two other guests had the she crab soup and rated it highly. Sooooo...I started out with "Dick's addiction drink" with Malibu rum, blackberry liqueur, cranberry juice & sprite & it was delish! Super smooth & you could taste the rum but not too overwhelming. It comes in a souvenir cup for $10.99. They brought out hush puppies with a honey butter. The hush puppies had a good flavor, but a little too crunchy for my liking which is why I deducted one star. For my entree, I got the blackened chicken pasta and it was THE ONE! So good and full of flavor! The chicken was super tender and seasoned to perfection and the Alfredo sauce was jammed packed with flavorrrrr! That prob was one of my favorite pastas that I've had at a restaurant.
