The first was for a St. Patrick's Day party, where I had ordered a tray with 2 pounds of cookies. When I arrived, I noticed that the tray didn't have St. Patrick's Day cookies, just regular cookies. The owner was the one waiting on me, and when I mentioned this to him he apologized immediately, said there must've been a miscommunication, and asked me if I could wait five or 10 minutes and they'd make a brand new tray for me. It probably would've been okay if I took the original tray, but I knew our group really wanted St. Patrick's Day themed desserts for this party of about 40 people. So I said sure I could wait, and the tray they put together was absolutely beautiful. Besides the cookies, it also included some little plastic St. Patrick's Day themed rings and other decorations. Fast forward to last week, when I was tasked with bringing the dessert for a monthly board meeting. I called and again spoke with the owner, and explained what I needed. I thought it would be fun to bring some holiday-themed items, and I had seen a picture of their Yule logs on their website, so I inquired about those. We chatted about it, he asked me the type of cake and filling, I also ordered a 1 pound box of cookies and a gluten-free cupcake for one of our members, and I picked them up before the meeting two days later. Everything was absolutely perfect. Their Yule logs are beautiful - mine looked exactly like the picture on their website - and again there were little rings and other decorations on it. One of the other board members was so impressed with it that she immediately said she was ordering her own for the holidays and took several pictures of it, and everyone asked me what bakery I used. Oh, and the cookies and cupcake were great, too! I have a feeling they'll be getting some more business from our group from this for sure, as they should!

There was always this franchise (Portillo's) that served their famous chocolate cakes by the slice. It was moist and really good. And they remained the best one for such a long time since I really couldn't find any worthy competitors around the northwest burbs, until I saw this tiny shop along Waukegan road-Ganache Bakery. I had to go inside and see what they havd to offer. The word Ganache alone was enough for me to seek em out. Lo and behold, they had Chocolate Cake with ganache icing inside! It was soft and moist and melted in your mouth! I was in heaven! Finally, a place I knew would supply me with the best chocolate cake worthy of any grand celebration. Unfortunately, after the third and fourth purchase, I noticed that it didn't taste the same as the first time we had it. It wasn't as light as the initial experience. It was actually a bit heavier, more dense. It was still moist but, it just wasn't the same anymore. Oh well, the search is back on.

All the bakery items at the Misericordia Sweet Shoppe are made by the residents and boy, do they seriously give Chicagoland bakeries a run for their money. Some highlights: - Macaroons: super buttery and delicious, these are some of the best macaroons I have ever tasted - Cookies: These are one of their specialties. We tried the vegan cranberry chocolate cookies per the server's recommendation, and they were heavenly. - Coconut cake: super light, creamy, airy, buttery, coconut-ty. Wow! - Yogurt parfait: unsweetened and serves with berries some deliciously crunchy granolas. Many of our guests asked for her name and phone and said it was all so delicious. We received countless complements on the event. The biggest hits were rare beef tenderloin w/ horseradish sauce, shrimp and tortellini skewers w/ pesto dip, homemade potato chip topped w/ cocoa spice rubbed pork tenderloin, cabernet cupcakes and the biggest hit of all.... oreo truffles! They were happy to accommodate our every need. Since it was for a grand opening celebration/open house, we were unsure of how many guests would come. Our turn-out was about 200 guests, and there was plenty of food and drink for the party! We did 6-7 different passed appetizers - the servers were friendly, prompt, but not in-your-face-eat-this like some are. Staff was very professional. Every appetizer was delicious (we had the company recommend their most popular items). The cold apps were cold and the hot apps were hot. There were no discarded napkins, etc. lying around - they must have constantly cleaned-up after everyone too. We did wine and sparkling water service. The bartender had a drink in everyone's hand the second they walking in the door. Very fast, very attentive. Since we didn't know the exact head count of our party, the company brought as much wine as possible and didn't charge us for any unopened bottles that they could take back!!!! I only briefly met the owner/manager, but my mother really enjoys working with her. You can tell she has been doing this for years. She will come out to check-out your party space to plan ahead of the layout for her food and staff. I have to say this party was a lot of work, but the catering was the easy part thanks to Everyday Gourmet. Would definitely recommend this company to a friend for small parties/business events.
