Very tasty dinner here on a Sunday evening! Our server Mickey was very friendly and helpful to our party of three. This is a large space with lots of seating options and a big bar space. We started with the deviled eggs, fried green tomatoes and the fried shrimp. All were delicious but the deviled eggs and fried green tomatoes were definitely the highlight. This was my second time at Dinosaur BBQ and it was even better than the first time! I took my parents and we all split the appetizer sampler for 2, which had something for everyone. My mom loved the deviled eggs and fried green tomatoes. My parents also split the sweetheart deal, which comes with a full rack of ribs and four sides. The ribs were AWESOME! So good and smokey. You could taste the grill flavors. The pork belly was ok, but the portion size was small. The BBQ sauce it came with was okay, but it wasn't that great. I recently ordered food from this Dinosaur Barbecue location, through a delivery app. I ordered the special that comes with 3 choices of meat and two sides. I decided to double up on ribs, half a bbq chicken, cornbread and baked beans. The ribs were Memphis style I think??? Tasty and tender but one half of a slab was all fat. Not a fan of fat on spareribs. The chicken was tender to cut through and looked really good but it was dry enough to nearly to choke on. Disappointed. My side of cornbread was buttery and baked well but bland. I need my cornbread to have just a touch of sweetness-a touch! The baked beans though, were TOO sweet and just not great tasting. I was here for the 4th of July the other day and had an overall great time. It was understandable busy for a holiday so I had to wait about 30 minutes for my table to be ready. Once seated, my waiter Issac took my order. I had the Donkey Punch drink along with two meats (Alabama White Pulled Chicken and St. Louis Ribs) with two sides (BBQ Beans with Pork and Harlem Potato Salad). In addition, I had 3 Creole Deviled Eggs and Cornbread with my meal. My food came out in a decent amount of time. My waiter didn't check on me during my meal so I wasn't able to order another drink, receive napkins, or another glass of ice water with lemon. I've been going to Dinosaur Bar-B-Que for years and I absolutely love it. The restaurant is really big inside and they have a few tables in the front of building, so the wait is never too long. It is in a high traffic area though so it's still a good idea to make a reservation. For this visit we ordered the sampler plate that came with two of the following: Green fried tomatoes, Devil eggs, wings and a ribs. Everything on that plate was amazing.. the Devil eggs were so good, probably my favorite. I would have been satisfied with the app alone, it was plentiful but i did get a main and it was two proteins and side. I got the Alabama chicken, brisket, mac n cheese and coleslaw. The sauce for the chicken was really good and the brisket was so tender. I love their mac n cheese, its so creamy and the coleslaw is refreshing. This place has gone from average to bad. An Uber Eats delivery of half chicken with one side and a small tray of wings was just awful. The breast from the half chicken was severely overcooked, yet pink/rare near the bone, the mashed potatoes had an odd taste, they forgot to pack the BBQ sauce and the wings were slathered with the BBQ sauce on soft skin. I've been eating here for awhile now and even with me being now gluten free, they have so many delicious options for me to choose from. This was my first time ordering the mashed potatoes and they were pretty good and had Cajun corn inside. The drinks are always well made. The restaurant itself has ample seating inside and outside. We had to wait about 20 minutes for a seat but they allowed us to wait inside. The hostess and waitress were very friendly and on top of things. Dinosaur Barbecue is good barbecue at a fair price. This Upstate based barbecue restaurant has another location in Harlem and others elsewhere and is what I would consider the second of three generations of barbecue evolution in the boroughs of NYC, each one improving upon the last. The first generation was Dallas and Virgil's; the second generation is Dinosaur, Hill Country and a few others; and now we are onto the third generation with John Brown, Fette Sau, Mighty Quinn, and several others branching off into Dominican, Puerto Rican and Korean barbecue. So NYC is no longer bereft of BBQ. Dinosaur fits somewhere in the middle for barbecue in this City and should be evaluated as such. I have been to the 125th Street location several times and came to this Gowanus location for the first time last night. People are still eating Thanksgiving leftovers and the restaurant was well under capacity. I was here with friends and we were immediately seated. The decor is reminiscent if 125th Street, with a heavy dose of wood all over. I ordered the Brisket Plate, which comes with cornbread and two sides. I chose French fries and coleslaw. There is a footnote Pro Tip below the platters on the menu, which allows you to add two center cut pork ribs for just $5.50, which I added, totaling a reasonable $34. The brisket was tender and flavorful with a little bark on it, impressive at this price point. It was around an estimated 8oz of brisket, with a few jalapeno rings and barbecue sauce on top. The fries were very good and the coleslaw was surprisingly better. It has been a long time since I visited a Dinosaur Barbecue and I had forgotten how good their sides are. (I frequented the 125th location, ordering their family meal, but they kept omitting the bottle of barbecue sauce in my to go bag. So I stopped going, with the bitter taste from the constantly missing bottle of sauce, even reminding them of it.) The ribs were good too, grilled to a high fever of caramelization and even bark, with the fat mostly rendered out leaving the flavor just the way I like'em. This was a very good meal at the Gowanus location, nothing outstanding for the level of barbecue again NYC, but at $37 including taxes before tip, not a bad value price point. I preferred to eat the meats without which is such a shame because I usually like to eat my BBQ meats with the variety of sauces! We were in Brooklyn and decided to visit Dinosaur BBQ on Memorial Day 2025. It was somewhat crowded when we arrived before dinner time, but seemed many tables empty and available but we did not make reservations (not even sure if you can) and there was an approximate 30 min wait. Something changed and the server was asking us if we were ready to order before even having the appetizer. Hmmm. We placed our orders and the dysfunction began. We all loved the Swag Sampler, fries green tomatoes, deviled eggs, wings, and ribs. But the waitress disappeared and multiple people appeared saying they were out of this, then a few moments later again saying they were out of that, and same a few mins later. I cannot even recall all of the meats they were out of as I ordered catfish, but my dining partners were not happy. The meals were delivered and a request was made for lemon (for the catfish) and waters and drink refills which were seemingly ignored for quite some time. So we opted to order from the bar which had NO problem servicing us on the spot. Paid for at the bar. The food was good, it really was but all this confusion detracted from full enjoyment of the experience. The catfish was good and would have been better eaten right away had lemon been made available. The baked beans were quite tasty, we liked the Mac and cheese, the slaw and potato salad were excellent. Pretty good cornbread. The waitress and manager seemed overwhelmed and defeated with any request or comment.
