Shorter review of the short review- Brisket sandwich is my recommendation. The wings and rib tips are also very tasty. This is a popular BBQ spot that I have been to a couple times which unfortunately had some dry meat the second time I was there. I would recommend going on a weekday as otherwise, the lines can be a bit prohibitive though that is the case for most of Industry City. If I was to recommend one thing, it would be the Brisket Sandwich. The brisket itself is a tad dry if you order it separately but on the sandwich where it's chopped and topped with onion, pickles, and a rather tasty sauce, it becomes much less dry and in fact pretty moist. For around $18, it's a sizable sandwich and quite delicious. In terms of actual barbecue outside of the sandwiches, as noted, the Brisket has some good smoke but it is a tad dry. The Pork Ribs were also not my favorite. If you were to get one thing here, the Beef Ribs are excellent though very expensive but you do get a big portion of course. The sauces help with the meat with my preference being the slightly sour one but if you need sauces for your meats, you're probably doing something wrong. While the BBQ is just alright, I actually like the other dishes a bit better. The Vietnamese Hot Wings were juicy and well flavored while the Jerk Rib Tips were excellent though more with a good BBQ tang than ribs. The side dishes are alright alright. I wasn't a big fan of the Pinto Beans as I found them a tad bland even with the pork added while the Pickles were well dill pickles which should probably just come with the meal. The Corn Bread is decent and the Mac was alright (could use a bit crisp as the texture was a bit boring but the flavor is OK.) This is not my favorite BBQ in the city though I haven't tried the original Red Hook location which I have heard is much better. Nice place to sit and eat at least. Low 3
We got a half pound of brisket each and some Mac and cheese to share. Flavor wise, it was pretty decent. It wasn't mind blowing or anything, but it hit the spot. You can tell though that the meat has been sitting for a while. The restaurant itself looked a bit odd and not fully clean. The bottles were sticky and it smelled like wet mop. The price also wasn't really worth it - it was nearly $70 for a pound of brisket and a large Mac and cheese. If you're really desperate for bbq and are in the area, I would recommend coming here. But if you can wait, I would recommend going elsewhere.

An extension of Red Hook's location - happy to have an additional spot where it's not overly crowded and more room to stretch out and enjoy their signature bbq. My boyfriend and I got the beef brisket sandwich, the Korean ribs, side of Cole slaw and Mac and Cheese, plus cornbread. The cornbread was all gone because it was that good - savory, fluffy, and right sweetness - he advertised this well to me. The brisket sandwich also was tenderized, flavorful, and very easy to engulf in minutes. The Korean ribs however was good but we got mixed reviews on it. It was cooked perfectly with the right charred taste and texture. But the sauce didn't do much for us. It is hard to define what Korean glazed ribs should taste like as it isn't common for their cuisine to use bbq sauce. You're used to the marinated galbi ribs in soy sauce, pear puree and garlic. Granted still perfectly cooked ribs and a winner if you like that bulgogi sweet and spicy sauce. Atmosphere is great, we got our food super quick and the seating was spacious to enjoy our big bbq spread with a bunch of wipes from your classic saucy bbq comforts. Loved having the option of outdoor seating to enjoy the nice Spring weather. Good place to run to if the original Red Hook's location makes you wait too long.
Nice outdoor seating area between the buildings in industry city. Dog friendly as well. Ribs were nice and tender, brisket was a bit dry. Queso was really good. Everything was kind of pricey in my opinion for the portion sizes. The food pictured plus a soda and a cider were $90
First time at Hometown and really enjoyed it! I found all of the food to be so flavorful and actually worth the price in terms of quality and quantity. My only real note is the much of the meat wasn't hot. I'd say it was warm to room temperature. So, that was a little disappointing. The flavors still hit though! The staff was nice but the food took about 20-30 mins to come out and didn't come out all at once. We had to wait an additional 15 mins for the second half of our order. Most certainly willing to try it again and see if it was just a busy day
If you're craving hearty meat options then look no further....there is brisket, ribs, pulled pork and jerked meat just to mention a few items on the menu. Portions are mighty hefty so be ready to eat. The are ample sides such as mac & cheese, the baked beans are delish, cornbread is a must try. The pulled pork was perfectly spiced and extremely tender. I ordered the wings and they were superb, I also tasted the jerk ribs which gets a 10 out of 10. This spacious eatery is rustic and lively with ample picnic style tables and a few high top seats and live music (singer and a small band). The crew in the kitchen has mastered moving the ordering process right along so if you see a crowd don't be deterred. The staff is friendly and really clears up the empty plates when you're done eating. There is a full bar also. Don't worry if you can't finish the food just walk to the end of where you ordered your food and there are several size plastic platters, tops for the condiments and plastic bags to pack up your meal for leftovers. The bathroom was clean and well stocked as well as the restaurant tables each with bbq sauce and hot sauce available for you if needed. The only suggestion I would have for some diners as crazy as it sounds is to bring utensils, the restaurant only has plastic. I personally am not a fan on plastic utensils especially when trying to cut wings or ribs....yes I know this is meant to be finger foods but I like real utensils. This is only my personal opinion but it something to keep in mind. We found parking less than a block from Hometown Bar-B-Que which was great.
Delicious food!! Definitely try the ribs, brisket, Mac, Pinot, collards and cornbread. Looking forward to trying here again when I'm in the area. Service was very fast services made great recommendations and were patient and pleasant. Ambiance was casual and chill.
I went here in Industry City on Friday, I ordered the Vietnamese Style Cauliflower and the Mac n Cheese. Honestly the Cauliflower was so spicy that I couldn't finish it. However I did enjoy the Mac n Cheese. The lady at the counter was nice when I picked up my order. The ambiance outside the restaurant was nice.
Easy to order. Came in on a Sunday Labor Day weekend. They were quite busy but staff was very attentive and helpful. I didn't wait that long to order at the register. You also have the option to order online. We got the Mac and cheese and 1/2 pound brisket. The Mac and cheese could use a little more flavor and the brisket was amazing. The brisket was filling and it went great with the sticky sauce. Also got the corn bread which you can't go wrong with. They have indoor and outdoor dining. It's very spacious.

We stopped by Hometown before an event and I completely enjoyed trying the : - Jerk Rib Tips - Brisket Queso (w Tortilla Chips) . I didn't expect to like this spot as much as I did. I even went back for their Korean sticky ribs (not pictured) after the event. . The summer beer on tap was delicious (I forgot the name) and there is plenty of lovely outdoor and indoor seating. . They do run out of food by the early evening but they have lots of ribs by closing . Super friendly staff and helpful with bringing food to the table and suggesting what sides go with the meats . I love getting recommendations and fully loving the food!
Quick service with friendly staff. It was pretty quiet when we arrived on a weeknight. Plenty of seating to choose from, but the inventory was limited. Located in industry city which building i can not remember but u can't miss it. The service was friendly and fast...maybe too fast. The French fries were not cooked all the way very light skinned and hard. Besides the French fries every thing else was pretty good. The baked beans were sooo good! They were a lil spicy, full flavored and the bacon pieces made even more delicious. The jerk rib tips were very tender and tasty! I like those better than the Korean sticky ribs. The sticky ribs were good just way too saucy for me. I will definitely be back for the pastrami sandwich. The chef came out and offered us desert which was key lime pie. The mini pie was tasty. Honestly decent BBQ for NYC standards. Brisket and ribs were good. Pulled pork was less my fave. Corn bread was a bit grainy and dry, but would def go back for more brisket! Lots of seating and quick service. read more

Hands down this might be the best BBQ joint in NYC. Used to live in Texas and this is on par with the real stuff! Loved the ribs, they are so tender and the meat falls right off the bone. It does take a while to actually get your food after ordering, so don't wait til you're starving to show up. Prices are definitely a little steep here, especially for the beef ribs. Walked out with a substantially heavier stomach but a much lighter wallet! read more

The meats are smoked to perfection with that deep, rich flavor you only get from true pitmasters. The brisket melts in your mouth, the ribs fall right off the bone, and the sides taste homemade and comforting. The atmosphere is lively but relaxed, and the staff is friendly and clearly proud of the food they serve. I liked the atmosphere of this location and how convenient it is. It is located in the heart of Industry City. The staff was friendly and quick but as most BBQ places are, it is a bit on the pricier side. 1. Pulled Pork Sandwich (7/10): the BBQ sauce was delicious but the sandwich is on the smaller side and we received it cold which made it less enjoyable. It was nicely paired with a sesame bun which is unique. 2. Mac and Cheese (7.5/10): This was delicious but also cold. It was so good to put some BBQ sauce and hot sauce on. I would definitely get it again because it is a bbq staple. read more
Been waiting to try this place! The OG is in red hook but that's a bit far from where we are. Was in industry city and randomly stumbled upon this place. The brisket was the star of the show - so juicy and tender and flavorful! Always get the fatty cut over the lean since it can be kinda dry. I also loved the Mac and cheese sooo good. The cornbread was a bit dry but flavorful with honey drizzle. We got the ribs which was really good and tender too! The backyard patio is so cute and great for a nice day out. We came on a Friday afternoon, wasn't busy and I wish I didn't eat breakfast if I knew we'd stop by here for a bite. Decent spot with just ok barbecue. Found myself wishing for more flaky salt on the brisket and thought some of it was underseasoned. The special sauce on the smash burger carried the entire thing but was overall a good smash, just not as beefy-tasting as other smashes you can find in Manhattan. Wings were alright, but again, the star was the sauce on the side. Cheese fries were tasty, sauce didn't seize nor was it grainy. The best thing on the tray was probably the pastrami bacon. Overall the meats were passable. However if you're expecting atx caliber cue, skip hometown and just goldbelly Snow's or Franklin's. read more

My review was going to be all about how much we loved the Brisket Queso, but when I was looking at their menu online it actually seems like it is no longer on the menu. So sad. Especially because it was the best thing we had. The Queso had so much depth and was delicious, no velveeta cheese dip there, definitely homemade. The brisket on top was so tender, hardly no fat and all worked together perfectly. Everything else we had was either good or okay. The Mac n cheese was good, super creamy. The pulled pork was good but we definitely thought that they should have cooked it in more sauce after being pulled apart or had more seasonings, it was a little blah but when we added sauce it was better. Overall rating: 4.9 So expensive but so good. I'm so surprised this doesn't have a higher rating! This is a sign to go here if you're debating it. First the atmosphere, space is soo beautiful. It's so large and so gorgeous!! One of the reasons why I love Brooklyn. I got the pulled pork sandwich & corn bread which was $26 but it was sooooooooo good. My friend got 2 ribs which were $16! And something else, I can't remember. The corn bread could have been better but it was still good. I also separately had a hot toddy which was soo good & so large! The staff was so friendly and so chill. I definitely will be coming back when I'm craving BBQ or tomorrow. Highly recommend! read more

Hometown Bar-B-Que smokes the best meats in NYC. Since smoked meats are quite literally my favorite food, it is no surprise that I absolutely love them. My wife also knows this, and she conspired with several other wives to make this past Father's Day a delicious one by ordering The Tailgate, a feast that serves 6-8. It comes with: 8 Sticky Ribs, 8 Vietnamese Wings (whole, meaning it's 16 wings that you'd get elsewhere), 2 lbs of Brisket, a Whole Wood Fired Chicken, 8 pieces of cornbread, and 4 sides (we got mac and cheese, slaw, pickles, and collard greens). The sticky ribs are, flavor-wise, everything I always want to eat. The wings are excellent. The brisket deserves the title at Brisket King that Billy Durney has won, and this past order, I was actually most impressed with the chicken. As juicy and flavorful as chicken can possibly be, to the point where I wasn't sure which meat was my favorite. In short, this is an incredible feast that no one in their right mind could ever complain about receiving. And while I am not in my right mind, I do want to be clear that I am not complaining here (I would never drop a star or anything), just offering some constructive criticism that would make this incredible feast even better for future customers (which will certainly include me again): 1. It should include some of Hometown's excellent two sauces, standard. I'm perfectly happy to eat their award-winning brisket sauceless, but some folks are not, which was kind of a bummer for them. Also, a little sauce is an excellent addition to the mac and cheese, among other things. 2. The sides are too small. A pint of mac and cheese (especially Hometown's excellent queso version) and a pint of slaw is simply not enough to match the amount of meat here. The ratio is wrong. I'd order that much for two-three people, and so it's definitely not enough for eight. Also, the food cost on slaw is minimal...please just give us a quart to cut through all that tasty brisket fat. 3. It would be amazing if there was some flexibility in terms of what comes in The Tailgate, or perhaps if other combinations were available. While I love the Sticky Ribs with all my heart, the Spare Ribs are the ones I run to. The ones I belong to. These ribs are absolutely phenomenal. As someone who has smoked a fair bit of meat myself (and makes a mean rib), I cannot replicate the simple, rib perfection that Hometown has here. They seem to be meat, salt, pepper, and smoke, and it's one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth. I would love to stage for the pitmasters for a week or two so I could learn the secrets of the spare ribs, or at least be able to swap them in for something else. Anyway, Hometown, you're the best. Thanks for being you. read more
