15. Hủ Tiếu Triều Châu Đặc Biệt Dìn Ký

This was our first time visiting Din Ky 2, and we had a great experience! The broth was rich and flavorful, which I really enjoyed. The portion sizes were also quite generous, so you definitely get a good amount of food. The staff were very friendly, attentive, and quick with their service. My husband and I really enjoyed this place, and we're happy we decided to give it a try. We'll definitely be coming back!

My uncle invited me for lunch at Din Ky. They had a deal where you can get a bowl of noodles for $10 on Fridays during lunch time. The original price is just over $14 so it's almost 33% off. We both got the dac biet dry noodle bowls of Hu tieu. I got the trieu chau style (rice noodles) and he got the version with egg noodles. Both of our bowls come with pork, fish balls, shrimp, squid, quail eggs, some liver meat, and a fried shrimp cracker. Since we both got the dry version, we got a bowl of broth on the side. They have condiments on the side such as pickled garlic and chili oil if you want to complement your dish more. It was really filling and I was satisfied with the bowl. Who doesn't love a $10 meal. Just come early because it gets crowded really fast, we had to wait on a waitlist. We also tried the salted Vietnamese coffee and it was solid

Din Ký 2 is a Vietnamese restaurant, which originated from Orange County, CA, with a second location in Houston on Bellaire Blvd. I got their hủ tiếu đặc biệt or Din Ky Special dry, càri dê (goat curry), mì hoành thánh (wonton soup), and bánh khọt. The dry Din Ky Special was my favorite of the dishes. The noodle dishes come with a prawn cracker on the side, which I like to dip into my bowl. The egg noodles were bouncy, and there were a lot of toppings, including two pieces of shrimp and other meats. Their dry special noodle comes with a sweet sauce on the side. The curry was a bit too gamey for me and only came with one baugette. The wonton soup was a bit on the sweeter side than I prefer, but the wonton pieces were soft. The bánh khọt was another favorite. They came out crispy with eight pieces per order. The inside was a bit spacious, and service was okay. It is pricier compared to other Viet restaurants nearby, but I think I would come back for their special noodles every once in a while.

One of the best hu tieu place in houston . Their broth was flavorful and clean . Gave you lots of veggies for the bowl also .

The review is based on the experience of a party of 2 for early dinner. Pros: Solid Sea Salt Vietnamese coffee! This has become my favorite drink on Bellaire. Their 'Hu Tieu' noodles dishes. We ordered a couple of different types and they were great. We got soup on the side and the broth was really flavorful. We love their condiments! Yes, you heard it right! The pickled garlic was shot for us. Service was great. The wait staff was really attentive and took time with us. I think the restaurant knows that they need to get repeated customers since they are relatively new. We got a couple of tarot tapioca banana coconut desserts as complimentary. That was a good way to end our meal. Cons: Banh Xeo was average but not bad. A few reviews said the price was a bit high but I think it was comparable to other restaurants in the same strip mall and most places on Bellaire.

This place exceeded my expectations! Good service, and lots of options to pick from! We all ordered noodle dishes and they were all good! Very flavorful and decent portion sizes. I'd come back!

2 items and got charged 15% tip for 6 people...We were only a party of 3.

Food was alright and portions are big enough for one person. They charge 15% tip to your receipt even if you're a party of 3. Beware of this and as for a printed receipt to confirm your charges.

This establishment is still in its early stages of development, which is understandable given their typical growing pains. The service was good; the staff was very nice and helpful. Overall, the food was good. While it isn't unique or particularly special, it manages to do the basics well. I recommend trying the dry noodle special; it's a simple dish. It has a lot ingredients. However, the fried shrimp tasted a bit stale, even though the sauce was flavorful. The fried noodles were good, not too salty and not oily. I would like they offer hoisin sauce as a condiment. They do have your typical items like Siracha, Sate Chili, Pickle Green Pepper and Garlic Slices.

Went on a Friday afternoon and was super impressed by the food. Normally I wait a bit before a new restaurant opens to try it just so they can work out the kinks in the service and the menu, but I took a risk here and it definitely paid off. We ordered the Hu Tieu Kho, Banh Khot, and the Goat Curry (Cari De) to share. The Hu Tieu Kho was extremely flavorful and had all of the fixings from the meat to the cilantro and herbs, the fried onion crisps, the quail eggs, fish cakes, the soup on the side. The sauce added the perfect hint of savory sweetness without being overpowering. The addition of the crispy shrimp chip definitely elevated the dish. Overall, the flavors are authentic and this dish is on par, if not better, than other places I've tried. (8/10) The banh khot were crispy on the outside and softer towards the center. The flavor was spot on, however, the shrimp being placed on top instead of being cooked into the batter was a less traditional way of cooking the dish. (7/10) The goat curry was super tasty and the goat meat was perfectly tender. This dish surprised me the most as it is not traditionally served at many Vietnamese restaurants, but this place definitely did it justice. (8.5/10) The service was kind and attentive and the lot has plenty of parking. Glad to have tried this spot that originated from the OC and to have found a good late-night spot for Viet food. I will definitely be back!

Tried the dry noodles and they were so flavorful and perfectly cooked. The sea salt coffee was creamy, smooth, and the salty-sweet balance was amazing. Great service and I'll definitely be back!

Expensive and foods not even good. The broth was too salty, but the authentic flavor was not there. Very generic salty broth. Ordered 2 different kind hu tieu nam vang and hu tieu tieu chau but all toppings were exactly same except the noodles (one has clear, the other has soft). This 2 noodle soups were supposed to be very different in flavor and toppings. Total bill was around $40 plus tip.

The filling is placed in a pan and then a thin layer of batter made with tumeric and coconut milk yellow batter is poured on top. You wrap the lettuce around the bánh xèo/bánh khọt and dip it in the fish sauce. I got the bánh khọt and the bò né. Bánh khọt is like a mini, thicker version of bánh xèo and came with nine pieces. Their bánh khọt was crispy, sweet and savory, and went well with the fish sauce. Although the portions initally look small, they are very filling. The bò né was filling and sizzling when it came out. It also came with a side of salad. The meat was tender. I really liked the bánh khọt and would definitely come back for them. It's nice having an authentic Vietnamese restaurant in our area, close to us, so we don't have to make the trek to Bellaire every time we crave some Viet food!

I couldn't have been more wrong. Xeo Yum (#1) as it turns out is one of the most legit Vietnamese places in Midtown serving up some of the city's best banh xeo and banh khot. Located inside of a Food Hall (#2) in the back corner, they have low-key become a destination and without question, the most popular stall in the entire place. The fan base didn't happen overnight but is a direct result of Chef Cuong Nguyen's commitment to quality Vietnamese fare. Banh Xeo is their signature item, which is also known as a sizzling crepe or pancake made of rice flour, tumeric, and coconut milk. The banh xeo holds well, is perfectly crispy, and is nicely stuffed with an assortment of beans sprouts, shrimp, and some of the best grilled pork belly I've had. Another specialty item that doesn't get enough mention is their banh khot, which is similar but has a mini muffin / cupcake like appearance made in a specialty cast iron mold. This version is wonderfully crispy and pairs perfectly with fresh greens and fish sauce with some funk. It is my favorite item here. Some have argued they also serve one of the best bo ne (#3), the Vietnamese version of steak and eggs served in a skillet. The chunks of beef are nice and tender with just a tad of char, served with two fried eggs, and a banh mi baguette with a mix of butter and spare. Normally I think of spam or sausage included with the meats, but Chef Cuong's spin is with cherry tomatoes. It's a different approach and I'm not mad at it. Folks not looking for this can shoot for bo luc lac, aka shaking beef, which is also recommended. The staff here is sweet, hard-working, and very friendly. They also make a mean Vietnamese coffee and offer free iced self-serve water. The prices are what I would expect in a Midtown food hall, and there's plenty of seating. Anyone checking out the food hall need to make Xeo Yum as part of their eating itinerary. __________ (#1) A play on the Vietnamese sizzling crepe, Banh "xeo" and yum" (#2) Previously the Conservatory and now Stestí Food Hall. (#3) Boh-Neh. Not bone.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that it's only a 5 minute walk from Marriott Marquis. Grilled pork vermicelli with egg roll was amazing as expected. And lastly the pan fried noodle seafood plate was a hit. Everything we ordered and ate was great and we devoured it all. We had to ask multiple people for to go boxes. When we ask attention from one person to order something , they would refer to another person so the communication was very confusing. The restaurant was easy to find, right off Main Street, and parking was a breeze. When we walked in, the restaurant had a modern look with a beautiful mural celebrating the homeland. We were greeted and told to sit wherever we'd like, so we picked a table and settled in. Our server came by with the menus, napkins, utensils, and plates, all neatly stacked, and then gave us some time before coming back to take our order. We ordered several different bowls of pho so everyone could try something -- salmon, steak and meatballs, and the combo (đặc biệt). Of course, we also had to try their dry pho. We also noticed they had a mango salad with a choice of protein, and since that sounded intriguing, we decided to give that a try too. The mango salad came out first, and I'm honestly still not quite sure how I feel about it. The mango was tart, and there was a creamy element that gave the salad an interesting texture and flavor. I did really like the grilled shrimp, though. Out of the protein options, I'd recommend the shrimp with this salad, although I could also see chicken pairing well with the flavors. Then came the pho. We tried several different broths, and they were all flavorful on their own. I didn't feel like they needed anything added unless you prefer extra spice or seasoning. I also really appreciated how generous they were with the basil. There was plenty to go around, which is always a win when you're eating pho! As we finished up, our server came back to the table with our check and small spoons filled with what looked like crème brûlée. We asked her what it was, and she said she didn't know. We mentioned that it looked like crème brûlée, and she agreed before walking away. I'm not sure if this was something complimentary, a leftover from another dish, or something we were supposed to know about, but it was definitely an unexpected ending to the meal. If you know what this was, I'd love to know! Overall, we'd definitely come back. The food was great, the pho was flavorful, and there were plenty of options for everyone. The service could use a little improvement. Our server seemed to have some difficulty communicating in English, and we could have used a few water refills during the meal. Nothing major -- we probably just needed to speak up more. Good food, easy parking, a nice atmosphere, and a family-friendly menu. We'd come back to try more of what Old Saigon has to offer.

There was a small garnish of pickled onions and shredded carrot that went so well with the pork bowls. If they included more of that, the bowls would have been star status. But they didn't. And they weren't. Overall, I had a decent lunch. Maybe next time I'll dine in to see if that makes a difference.

I've actually been here twice now, and while my experiences were pretty different, one thing stayed consistent: the food is GOOD. The service, however... well, that's where things get a little interesting. First visit: I went on a Thursday afternoon with my mom and toddler, which was already a bold choice on my part. The place was packed AF... there wasn't a single seat left when we walked in. I was really just hoping my son would sit still long enough for us to enjoy a meal. The restaurant was averagely clean, but because they were so busy, we ended up grabbing our own menus and had to wave someone down a few times before we could order. I definitely understood that they were slammed, so I tried not to hold it too much against them. We ordered the bún riêu ốc, bánh khọt, and bún nem cua bể, and thankfully, the food made up for the chaotic service. The bún riêu ốc was a 10/10 for me. I am VERY particular about bún riêu because, in my opinion, my mom makes the best. So when I say this is probably the closest I've had to my mom's, that is a BIG compliment. The broth had that comforting, flavorful quality I look for, and I could honestly eat this all over again. The bánh khọt was surprisingly good too! My mom and I normally don't care for bánh khọt because of the coconut milk base, but we kept seeing it come out to other tables and eventually felt obligated to see what the hype was about. I'd give it a 7/10. Not something I'd normally order, but I'm glad we tried it. The bún nem cua bể was also solid--another 7/10 from me. To me, it's basically a rectangular egg roll. The presentation is almost like a deconstructed bún thịt nướng, and everything comes together nicely when you mix it all up. Second visit: I came back with my boyfriend, and unfortunately, this experience was a little more frustrating. He initially asked for a new bowl of nước mắm because I made the mistake of putting way too much red chili paste in ours. Oops! He asked for some extra nước mắm, and the first time, they brought out what was basically a tiny medicine cup amount. We looked at each other like... you gotta be kidding us... He asked again, and the second time they brought out a slightly bigger plastic cup. At this point, my boyfriend was understandably getting irritated. Then, FINALLY, on the third attempt, a girl came over with an actual regular-sized bowl of nước mắm. It took three tries to get there. I know restaurants get busy, but because this place is relatively small, I do feel like the service could be a little more attentive and consistent. Both of my visits made that pretty apparent. The first time they were overwhelmed by the crowd, and the second time it just felt like there was a disconnect between what we were asking for and what was actually being brought out. Another thing to keep in mind: when this place is packed, it gets HOT. Like, why am I sweating while eating my noodles? So if you're sensitive to heat, just be prepared. Especially the guys... Also, the bánh khọt takes a while to come out, so don't order it expecting a quick meal. It's made to order, and you'll definitely be sitting there for a bit waiting for it. Honestly, just embrace it and order something to snack on in the meantime. Overall, I'd definitely come back because the food is worth it, especially the bún riêu ốc. I just think the service can be hit or miss depending on how busy they are. My first visit was more of a "they're slammed, I get it" situation, while my second visit left me a little more frustrated.
