I took my nephew to DICK's in Pasadena on Saturday looking for chalk and a specific pair of track shoes. I asked an employee in the shoe department where to find the shoes, he didn't say anything, walked over to the shoe section we might need and just pointed at 3 pairs and didn't say one word, it was so bizarre! We didn't buy shoes because we had more questions and didn't think he was up to the challenge since words might be needed. Then we asked another employee where the chalk was she said it should be over against that wall. There were two huge walls far from us so we tried to look on our own but were unsuccessful. I purchased something else altogether. At the register, they don't greet you but ask you four different questions about signing up for a credit card, two different options for discounts, and finally, do I want to round up for something? After the 4th question, I said I really just want to pay for my items. I rarely come here especially since they are sooooooo expensive and always rude. We went to Big 5 instead and they were so helpful and nice and spent time with us so we could ask questions. read more

Dick's is one of the few remaining all-encompassing sporting goods stores in this area, and as such, it is the place I go to when I need, say, an inexpensive sleeping bag, a bicycle pump, a fold-up chair to watch my kids' sports, and some golf balls. Their prices are competitive, and the convenience of getting it all in one place makes up for the few instances when their prices are higher than others'. The drawback is that like ALL national chain stores, they are ridiculously understaffed, and not all their sales staff knows about all of their carried sports gear (see: Best Buy or Macy's for the worst in these categories). But knowing that before I go, and figuring out what I want to buy in advance saves the headaches and heartaches of what general retail shopping has become. Add to that their withdrawal from the gun sales marketplace, and they become a retailer whom I will gladly patronize. read more

Every time I go here I have a hard time finding an employee who really has knowledge of whichever piece of sporting equipment I'm inquiring about. I'm usually met with a blank stare. As well, when I bring my kids here to find specific apparel or sports equipment, no one has any enthusiasm or even basic knowledge of what might be best for my kids. It's usually a pointing to an area of the store accompanied by a "all our kids stuff is over there." No "here let's show you what we have and find the best option for your little athlete." As well, the selection of anything for kids sporting equipment is pretty lack luster. Especially in the tennis dept. All in all I see Dick's Sporting Goods as that oversized superstore filled with a ton of stuff that none of the college students working a job they can't wait to get out of have little idea about. read more

One register is not working so they want me to go to the other side of the store where there are 10 people and one person working. 15 minutes to check out is ridiculous. Just went into get some cleats for my sons the worker acted like he was not happy with his job being rude brought me the wrong shoes telling me I was wrong making me have to show the shoes I wanted again just for him to leave me standing there waiting for an answer. I ordered on line for store pickup. I checked in on line when I got to the parking area for curbside delivery. I waited for about 15 min and No one delivered the item. So I called the store and they told me I'm in the wrong curbside pickup area. So I told them I will just walk in and pick it up myself, the person I spoke to said that would be faster. So I go inside the store and stand in line to pick up my item. When I get to the cashier and I told him I'm picking up the online order he said that I need to go downstairs. So I did and the cashier downstairs sent me to the bike area. And no one was there. So I had look around to find someone to help me. Finally someone showed up and handed me the item. I went into the Glendora location with my little brother at 9:09PM and we were really looking forward to our shopping experience. I felt harassed by several associates who attempted to rush us out of the store. Although it was near closing time, there were still several other customers who shopped without being approached as we were. There were no announcements over the intercom reminding customers of the closing time; nor did any employee remind us of the time prior to 9:30PM. However, the associate Anita rudely informed us that registers were closing and we needed to pay at that very moment. We complied, but as we were exiting, other customers were allowed in the store. I only go to get my CO2 paintball canisters refilled. I ended up calling ALL THE TIME now since they're either out of CO2 OR they don't have a person available to fill it. It's a disappointment since this is the only place now a days that will refill CO2 canisters without overcharging. I go here because it's cheap, it's close, and there really isn't another option that I know of. I miss Sports Authority in Burbank. Bought my son his first bike for his birthday Nov. 1. A$400 bike. He rode it 3-4 times on the street outside our house. The beginning of Thanksgiving weekend the rear tire was flat. I called the Broadway store in Glendale and told them the problem, and their representative said to bring it in. I thought, wow, the store stands behind their product, that's great! When I got there at 6 pm, Sunday 12/1, they said they would not fix it without a warranty, which I did not purchase. I said, why did you tell me to drive it here then? And why would anyone ever buy anything from your brick and mortar store if you won't fix your defective product when it breaks right away? I suggested they give me a tube and I'd fix it. They would not. Left with the manager muttering under her breath. Y'all, just order from Amazon, there is nothing unique or special about Dick's customer service... Full disclosure: I really miss Sport Chalet. And after touring this newish, 2-level Dick's, I even miss Sports Authority (which gobbled up SportMart but kept the layout). Yes Dick's has most everything, but they were sadly lacking in clothing offerings that both SA and especially SC had much more of. The staff were friendly and everyone asked if I need help, but there are so few clothing labels to choose from! They have no visible offerings from major outdoor brands like: Prana, Mountain Hardware, Arc'teryx, Marmot, Kuhl, Quicksilver, Helly Hansen, Volcom, etc. There were a few NorthFace and Columbia items, a shirt here, a rain jacket there, but not much of a summer selection for the month of May! No Jeans. Very few pants. Very few button-down shirts. Hunting/Fishing clothes? Yes. Sports Equipment galore? Yes. Shoes of every persuasion? Yes. But a massive clothing floor area upstairs with mostly exercise tops and basketball shorts. There's definitely room to stock SOME of what REI displays. I shouldn't be thinking of Macy's as my go-to surf-wear store. So there's REI at the top of the heap, and Big-5 at the bottom. Dick's is all we have in the middle and I think they could aim higher. read more

Yes, it's huge and confusing! The layout is all angular, so you can't see "across the store", there is no rhyme or reason to how it's set up! 2 stories, and no help to be found. I'm not super picky about being helped, but can you have someone on the floor to help us find the swimwear section!?!? When we do find it, it's like so disorganized it's really sad. Everything is bunched together and most of it is so high up... there is a "Stick" to get them down, but why aren't the suits on a rounder organized by brand?!? They only seemed to have 3 brands (TYR, Speedo and Nike), get 3 rounders, sort by size (what a concept!!), and it would be so much easier to see what you had..... I found 6 suits to try on (no fitting room near the swimwear?!!?!), found one to fit me for the gym pool and grabbed some new goggles too. I also got my Asics here around my birthday in August, the guy gave me a running test on the treadmill, that was fun and I'm still cruising them to Gold's almost every day! The checkers are friendly enough and there's lots to look at while you wait. For me to write a review, be it positive or nagative, A LOT of either good or bad needs to have happened for the place or individual being reviewed. Most of the time, I have neither the time nor energy to write a review. I have visited this place quite a few times to buy quality athletic shoes for my workouts. The customer service with a young man named "Bash" was exceptional, which I have not seen this in quite a while! For starters, he ACTUALLY was the one that approached ME while I was browsing in the shoe department! In our world, this is a HUGE and rare occurence! Hold the presses. He then went on to ask the right questions on what I needed for my feet. He was truly authentic in his care toward me, never even made me "wait" on him for the shoes to come out so that I could try them on. He was efficient in his delivery and level of customer service. The two foremost things in which Dick's earned this four-star review from me finally, are two substantial modifications they've made in their El Segundo store: 1) The locked dressing rooms now has a buzzer for an employee to come immediately to open the door for you. What does this mean for you? Glad you asked. This means that you no longer have to run around the entire looking for someone to grudgingly open the door for you, and which you might catch them disengaged and disinterested while theypre on the clock being paid to look at their phones, perusing their social media accounts! The girl came immediately to open the door and she even helped me with some sports bras with which I had some key questions about. Gosh, I wish I was able to remember her name. What a sweet and kind soul! 2) Their return policy has improved to where you don't need your receipt as long as you have it listed in your credit card charges. If they want 5 stars from me and others, I encourage Dicks Sporting goods to lower their prices to the prices of Marshall's and TJ Maxxes. You know, basic capitalistic principles of staying competetive in the market, which will also show that your organization is not interested on just focusing on the rich population to purchase your products! I want to share my visit to this sporting goods store in Glendale This store is very big, a lot of merchandise neatly organized on shelves. You can try most of the display machines available for sale. In fact I have noticed few visitors' children using elliptical machines. My concerns about this was safety and hygiene issues. What if the child gets hurt while on the machine, and who cleans them? I know it's parents negligence on one side, but on the other, I belive that store staff should be available to stop such behavior. Staff invisibility is another issue. I couldn't find no one to help me with some questions and had to go all the way to the cashier to ask for help. Parking lot was free on Sunday. read more

It's unfortunate that they've got this incredible and huge space, but it's almost like a facade. There are too few customers making real use of the resources and products Dick's provides and hardly any employees to be found. The employees also don't seem very knowledgeable about their products. Most recently when I was there, I waited about 15 minutes for size 8 metcons. I never got the shoes and the employee I asked was nowhere to be found, so I left. I think there are some kinks to work out - better knowledge of products and better customer service. It could be a fun experience if they were more inviting and gave their customers a reason to come back. The store, however, is very clean and well organized. Terrible customer service I think I had repeat my self about 6 times before the guy on the phone witch seemed to be on something to understood what I was saying. I only had to talk like a Robot for him to understand. They also say they fix compound bows but they don't have a technician to do so.. So maybe take that off your online services instead of just leading ur customers on. Very unprofessional store. I mainly shop at the Ladera ranch store but they don't have a hunting section so I took a few hours out of my day to visit the Huntington store.
