Worst shop I've ever been to. Don't come here. A complete mess of product in boxes all over the floor across the store. Why is your store open for business if 75% of your product isn't on the shelf? I got my finger stabbed by an opened lure while going through a box of unassorted fishing items. I told the 2 employees right next to me and the employee tells me afterwards to not look through boxes even though I had been looking for 5 minutes right next to her. I found it odd that a retail store would only have 3 stars on yelp. But now I get it. I came in to buy some rope. The people in front of me were asking the sales guy super simple questions like "is this double braid?" and sales guy couldn't answer it. Then when I got my rope, it was ringing up at a different price at the counter than what it was labeled on the shelf. They had the labels switched and wanted to charge me $10 extra for their mistake. When you do specialty retail, you should be able to answer basic product questions. When YOU make a mistake in labeling, you as the business should own up to it, and you take the hit and then go fix the label on the shelf so it doesn't help. Horrible customer service, went in to pick up two batteries for over $1000. Everything was all set up and this guy is the next register chimed in for no reason saying I have to have the original owner with the original port supply card with him and that's never had to be the case before cause he lives, like two hours away and I was picking those up for him. I get it if that's the case , which it's not , but to be that hostile and angry at the same time is ridiculous . And I need to get a lot of things for my business, but I will not be shopping at that store anymore. A few weeks ago I made a purchase at West Marine. The sales man was helpful and responsive. I questioned returned and he said 30 days no problem. I made the return yesterday. The Manager said "maximum cash refund $100.. So I got $100 cash and now have to wait for a check in the mail. I paid cash, green money!! I never heard of such a thing. read more

Had the worst experience at this location today 10/08/2025 Melinda is an awful person and tried to fight me over their dirty restroom. My bf and I went to purchase bait, I asked to use the restroom and with an attitude Melinda told me the restrooms were for "paying customers" only. I told her we were buying something, I just had to use the restroom really bad. She treated me and badly still didn't tell me where the restroom was located. She sent her coworker to me probably hoping he was going tell me the same thing BUT he was nice enough to walk me to the restroom and open the door. *Even after my boyfriend purchased the bait* and we were leaving she tried to start an altercation by telling me to step back inside her place of work (so we can fight). This place needs to stay away from hiring users. Melinda clearly has a problem and needs to seek treatment and mental help. By the way, the restroom was absolutely disgusting. I have photos of how nasty their restroom was, and Melinda is no better or cleaner than that restroom. (: I also regret letting my boyfriend spend his money at this location. Do better. read more

West Marine is a last resort destination if you need something last minute and can't wait for it to be shipped. In my experience if you need something very common, it might be here. However, anything special (even a wheel for a trailer jack), you're best served ordering elsewhere and waiting for it to be shipped. I've been to this location a number of times and find the staff to be helpful and honest about what they have and where else to look if they don't have it. I still go here occasionally, but my expectations are pretty low that I will find what I need. read more

I purchased a $65 quart of marine paint from West Marine. Three weeks later, I carefully opened the paint with a paint can opener and dished 4 oz of paint out in a way so as not to spill any on the rim of the qt can. I carefully closed the can back up. I used my plastic paint container and a brush to coat my object. Two weeks later, I wanted to dole out another 4 oz of paint, but the lid on the new $65 can of paint would not come off. The following week I took the can of paint to the West Marine Store and told them the lid would not come off and can I trade the can for a good can or can they send my can back to the manufacturer? Instead, the sales person at the store, used a big screwdriver and bent and pried the lid off. I told him there now is no way to seal the can of paint. He looked at me and ask what I wanted him to do about this? Then he told me to go to Home Depot and buy a new empty can. I told him that if I purchase a $65 can of paint, it is unreasonable for me to use my time to drive, purchase another can, and transfer the product myself. He said West Marine does not have a hazardous waste permit and therefore cannot take an open can of paint back, plus it is 6 weeks since purchased and this is out of warranty. I told the now two sales people, at the store, that I was going to contact upper management & see if this agrees with the philosophy of West Marine. I needed flares for a boat survey the following day but everywhere is sold out. I called West Marine in MDR and Oliver told me their inventory said they only had one in stock. I've worked retail and understand inventories are usually +/- 1 off so I wasn't holding my breath, considering how nobody has flares right now. Before I could even ask, Oliver said "Let me go find it just to be sure" and I was on hold on briefly before Oliver returned and told me he was holding it and that he'd leave it behind the desk with my name for pick up. A few hours later I was able to pick up my flares and even thank Oliver in person. The price was affordable, $30 less than Amazon for the same product. I got a hard to find item at a short moments notice, paid less than a competitor, and had great customer service. I'll def be back. read more

What is wrong with West Marine. At least 50% of the time I go there, I cannot get help, even when the store is practically empty and three employees are chatting at the cash register and two in the back. I've carried heavy objects to the front and they stare at me struggling and never offer to help. I ask where an item is that needs employee assistance such as cutting tubing, lines, wires and a lot of the time no employee comes to help even when they broadcast it over the speaker, customer needs assistance. This is a large West Marine off Fuji where it hits Admiralty. It has a good selection of boating & fishing supplies, clothing and equipment for outdoor activities. It is so close to the marinas of Marina de Rey which is handy if you need a repair fast! We have been here so often, I joke with my husband that it's his home away from home. When we sold our home, bought a boat in Marina del Rey and started living aboard. We had to update many systems before sailing off to Mexico. The staff is always helpful-they will order anything that's not in stock and delivered fast. Most of the workers at West Marine are boaters so they know what you are looking for and can make suggestions to help. I've met such great people working here. They are professional, friendly and help find what you are looking for so you get on your way fast! I definitely recommend this West Marine and would go back anytime. We have sold the boat but still work helping a friend so we still go back to update his boat or just to get kayak or other water sport supplies. read more

However, if you choose not to open an account, then you can count on disinterested floor help and grumpy mngmt. Overall-just pass! This company is a scam! Protect yourself. We ordered a kayak and paddles back in May and still haven't received them now mid July! I have spent hours on the phone with their customer service who keep insisting it's been shipped and it's on its way but they somehow have no way of tracking it. We specifically selected these items because they did not show up as back ordered like so many other of their items when we placed the order. Now we've missed the entire summer to enjoy our kayak and they've done nothing to compensate us. "Satisfaction guaranteed"!! What a lie! read more

I've been urban camping for the better part of 5 years now and west marine has the best bathrooms to get all of my business done in. It's pretty much a one stop shop for all you're semi/ or unhoused neighbors needs. They also sell a ton of tools you can construct great temporary or permanent structures under freeways. Only one note I can add is it would be nice if they had a needle exchange program available. All in all 5 star experience. read more

Customer Service, What does that mean to West Marine...The subtext was, "Screw you if you want to repair your own boat! Bring your boat in, and we'll see if WE can even fix it for you - at an alarming price..." This is disappointing considering they have DIY videos online, and they're one of the only kayak repair places around. Not only were they not helpful, but they were surly. This place is full of unprofessional employees and high prices. I tried to get help from Joanne and it was like an episode of "Abott and Costello". She asked the most unimportant questions about a simple request for a bilge pump. She was "fishing" for a reason to not look for it and say "We don't have it". Finally I went in and bought the item. Another time I waited for help while the employees ignored me and where chit chatting about sports. This is your neighborhood store for all boating items. West Marine carries the best in boating, yachting, sailing, kayaking and fishing. Besides hardware, you will find clothing, shoes, and accessories that fill all your needs. Store is a bit pricey, but this is a one stop shop for all your maritime wants. I am a big fan of all things fishing. They have a limited supply, but do carry some high end brands also. Catch them on sale, and you will be pleasantly surprised. Worst experience, and as a first time customer. Took TWO weeks to receive a notification that my package was returned, despite regularly following up with customer support throughout that time. Then, spoke to a representative who confirmed they replaced the order to arrived within 7-10 business days. Hours later, received an email stating the whole order was cancelled because the product was sold out. Frustrating to get the runaround by customer service who also failed to be diligent throughout the whole experience. Overall, spent HOURS trying to track down my package/receive my order without any luck or support from customer service. Do not recommend that anyone buy from their online store, as you will be disappointed and will have wasted both time and energy. read more

I went to West Marine to inquire about an item listed on the company's website so I may order. I was told that it would be in by the end of the coming week. When the time was near I called West Marine, but now I was told that the item wasn't available at the time I ordered and had to be made by the manufacturer as needed. I was given a time frame of about a week before it would be shipped. I was told I would be given a call be updated on the status. Long story short - Tim didn't provide updates as he said he would, got the run around when calling to speak with Tim, staff blamed the vendor for the hold up, and to this day I haven't gotten an update on the status of a $2400 item.
