Had a good experience! It was my first time going to one of these and the owner (who was working behind the counter) gave me a menu tour. The place was super clean and the owner was pretty active at wiping down the tables! The food itself was very solid too! It had been 8 years since I visited the local Dickey's and this will be my very last. I can not, do not and will not recommend that chain to any person. I got the 3 meat plate which costs $17.50 with chicken, turkey and pulled pork with the sides being coleslaw. I don't care for sliced loaf bread or "texas toast." This was a to go order. First of all, there was an additional tax of .39 for a renew/recycle program. As per Dickey's website, " Dickey's Barbecue Pit is launching new products system-wide that will not only reduce its carbon footprint but generate more opportunities for profitability for Owner/Operators." There's the recycle (profit) program for you. Secondly, one individual who was wearing the appropriate gloves for food service reached up and started scratching just under the nose before touching my food. I almost walked out at that point. When I opened the container at home, shock set in. It looked like a kid's meal and the coleslaw was brown with zero flavor. I had to doctor up the coleslaw with some mayo, pickle juice, salt and pepper in order to eat it. Meat portions were on the small side and came from under the counter wrapped in plastic. The meat was bland and on the dry side. I think the prepackaged Original flavor barbecue sauce I had to use was the only thing with flavor. The establishment was empty and void of customers considering the time of day I went. There should have been at least another customer. If you ever walk in a Dickey's and it's empty, it's empty for a reason. It was decorated like a typical chain and looked the same as it did 8 years prior. My location has numerous mom and pop barbecue places with a huge stationary or mobile pit for the meat and you can smell it cooking/being smoked from a mile away and that's a good thing. My family ordered from here tonight. Dickeys has always been 'decent' but I have had better. But it's quick to be delivered and it arrived in about 45 minutes. For my family of four our meal consisted of items like sliced brisket, brisket sandwiches for my boys, various sides of waffle fries, fried okra, potato salad, and potato casserole. The sides were fine as was the sausage. Unfortunately that is where it ends. The star of the show (being the sliced brisket) was an complete tragic mess. I have had brisket from all over Texas and this was hands down the worst. I understand brisket is going to have fat. That also gives it flavor. But it should not be 90% fat. It was literally not edible unless you enjoy thick globs of brisket fat. What little meat there was, was tough and chewy. It literally made me nauseous. I ended up throwing it away. That's annoying since the cost of the food (half of which couldn't be eaten) and delivery was almost $100. We will not be ordering from here again. The point is whoever was was cutting this should have seen this and been aware they are serving up fat. It was just gross. I also understand these employees are working to serve customers during a pandemic. And I absolutely respect that and I can forgive quite a bit more than usual. We ordered in delivery a couple of weeks ago. I am not the biggest fan of Dickey's Barbecue as a chain, but this was my first time eating from this particular location. I ordered a 2 meat plate, which comes with 2 sides and a roll for $14.85. I went with the chopped brisket, chicken breast, mac n cheese and the baked potato casserole. I didn't have high expectations, but I still found the meat incredibly dry. On the plus side, the sides were great and the roll was fine. Now the meat tasted fine, it was just dried out, which does effect the texture. The brisket was the worse offender, the chicken was dry but had significant flavor and was the favorite. The mac n cheese was above standard, especially for the reputation most bbq places have for ruining sides. The baked potato casserole was exceptionally good. Great texture, layered savory flavor- it saved the entire meal for me! Hell, maybe I'll just come by and order sides for when we are grilling at home. Now this is fast food quality, which is fine, except the price is too high. The portion size is fine, but the main point of the meal is the meat and that just doesn't taste like $14.85 quality to me. That's my biggest gripe with the chain in general. I won't return often, but when you consider this is a chain bbq place, it's right about where expectations fall. Summary for those who want the point -- Flavorless, dry, overwhelmingly expensive compared to competitors. **Go elsewhere** This is my first time eating at a Dickey's. I've had my fair share of BBQ. I can definitely assure you that if you're debating Dickey's or Rudy's...or even Buc'ees, both of them will outperform Dickey's. For two sandwiches, their sides, and drinks, it costed $40 and some change. For two people, that's absurd. You can eat for much better value elsewhere. I got the Westerner sandwich with ham & sausage and the other was a chopped brisket sandwich. The sides were okra and mac & cheese. -- Here's the catch, you can't dislike the sandwiches because there's nothing to dislike. There isn't any flavor. And that's no exaggeration; there's literally no flavor. Putting BBQ sauce on the sandwiches helps a little, but it distracts you from the reality of the sandwich. (-2 stars) The sides...well of course the okra comes in single-serving size frozen bags, you can't change that really. You can't mess that up. The mac & cheese reminds me of the one from KFC. It tastes fake and I'm doubtful of how it's even made. It was very underwhelming and just like the sandwiches, also lacked flavor. (-1 star) Okay that covers food, what about the atmosphere? It was empty inside, plenty of room. Quite a nice interior. The downside was that the employees behind the counter looked dead on the inside. Glued to their phones. That alone almost turned me away. Stopped in here on Sunday 08/16 for a quick dinner. It was OK.....but really felt that they were understaffed (I am sure this is a problem related to COVID). They have removed several tables so that they can be compliance with current executive orders which is fine. However, the placement of the BIG round table was poorly placed. Why would you put this right next to the ordering line?? If someone sat on the one side, they would be within 1 foot of someone waiting in line! DUH! We had to wait a bit for a table. Most of the tables were occupied and those that were not were DIRTY. The store didn't have staff to clean them off from the previous patrons. Also, the entire store needed a thorough cleaning..... Lastly, the cashier gave our food away to someone else while we were waiting for it. Therefore we had to to wait even longer to get the food. I emailed the email they asked me to and again NO RESPONSE!!! No big surprise. Again like i said keep your money!! We have order online many times and had a couple of "hiccups" but nothing big. We placed an order here over a week ago and NEVER got the food. We called the business about 30 minutes past when it was supposed to be delivered. Fran who was the manager on duty explained that the order had they don't do delivery and the food left A LONG TIME AGO and told me to just WAIT. I explained to her since it was past 30 minutes of the delivery time how much longer she expected me to wait. She says "a while longer because you might still get it". She was very rude and told me I needed to contact the company I placed the order with?!?? I told her it was through the dickeys website so I was speaking to the people I placed the order with. I explained to her my kids were hungry now and I just needed to cancel the order. She was beyond rude at this point and told me again they don't deliver and I needed to contact the people I placed the order with. I again told her it was through their website!!!! She then told me to go online and just cancel the order myself!!! I was shocked! I told here there was no way to cancel the order from their website. She continued to argue with me about it. She finally said she would get the order canceled and refund me for the food that never showed up....well that DID NOT happen. We called her back again when the charge posted a couple of days later she reassured me she was taking care of it THAT NIGHT....well that didn't happen. I called back again and asked for the manager on duty to try to get the refund. I was told it was Dana but she was too busy to talk to me and she could call me back. She NEVER called. I called back again the following week. Spoke with fran again. She told that this has been happening a lot where the drivers are delivering the food and told me AGAIN she had it and all my information would take care of it....it NEVER happened. I called back AGAIN and she said she would take care of it....it NEVER happened. I called back AGAIN and spoke to fran AGAIN and told her I wanted the refund don't this day and was not going to wait any longer. She said she would take care of it. Then she calls back 5 minutes later and said it was already processed and to "JUST WAIT". Well here it is several days later and guess what....I STILL DONT have my refund. I call up there again and there is "no manager on duty"....what a freaking nightmare this has been!!! It's not the point that I didn't get my food. I understand they contacted someone like Uber eats or DoorDash to deliver. That I can understand but what I CANT understand is the horrible customer service they proceeded the rudeness from the "manager" and I know times are tough and we are all struggling to stay up but do big chains really need to keep the working man's money?!? Especially when they didn't get it!!! Oh and I've contacted the main dickeys website and no big surprises they didn't respond back to my email either.
