Dressed up doughnuts are a trend I'm 100% here for. Prior to coming to Baltimore, I bought dozens from LA's Donut Friend on the reg. I was tickled to find that Baltimore had its own gourmet doughnuttery - in the heart of Fells no less - and that they carried similar flavours to my beloved hometown shop (lookin' at you, Samoa). [**Though as per their Instagram, they'll be acquiring a place all to their own in Fed Hill shortly!] I've ordered a half-dozen twice from Diablo thus far, both times at the crack of dawn (okay, actually 7am) when their shop opens. This place has a loyal following, so the selection can go like wildfire. The shoppe is operated out of the Hot Tomatoes pizza joint. During the morning hours it transforms from a pizza peddler into a magical doughnut haven, with dozens upon dozens of technicolour rings packaged in their signature chequered tissue. Service is fast, fun, and friendly. They've also got locally-sourced cold brews and kombuchas that cycle through the shop. The toppings and glazes are high-quality, but I honestly can't really taste the difference between a Diablo doughnut and a Krispy Creme (not that there's anything wrong with a KC, just when you're paying $2.50 a pop, I like a little somethin' special beyond the glaze). Maybe I've been spoiled by going to so many other fancy doughtnut places with more "cake-esque" dough, but I don't feel like the dough texture of the doughnut is any step above your garden variety chain. The pastry dough is soft and buttery, but distinctively saccharine - just a tad too sweet for my likes. "Why are you complaining about a sweet doughnut?" Asks everyone. "A doughnut is made to be sweet!" Well, I think the glazes here (blackberry lime! blueberry basil! blood orange pistachio?!?) are so tangy and dimensional that the super-sweet doughnut detracts from all the cool stuff going on. IIMHO when you have interesting flavours involved, the doughnut part should be a more neutral vessel to complement the toppings. With my boxes of DDs, the doughnuts are just so sweet the many flavours blend together and I have a poor time appreciating them. I enjoyed the glaze the most when I sliced the doughnut transversely, so I could savour the fruity icing with half the sugary dough. That said, the Samoa is a staple and the toasted coconut was A++. Unicorn Farts was a feast for the eyes, but again - just way too sweet for my palate. I was a bit let down by the lemon curd-stuffed one I got; it was filled with the neon-yellow lemon gelatine you get in a gas station Danish. Again, maybe I've been ruined by the other places I've been, but the lemon curd one I get at my favourite shop back in CA has a thick, true egg-based curd. tl;dr: super fun doughnuts with a great range of flavours. I'm picky as heck and think the dough is too sweet to appreciate all the cool stuff they top it with. But if you're a fan of Krispy or Dunkin' pastries, Diablo will give you that similar texture with masterfully crafted toppings. read more

Delicious donuts inside a funky shop. I really enjoyed checking out all of the flavors and luckily there was not a long long. For the flavors there was quite the variety with fruit flavors, something for chocolate lovers, seasonal and pretty unique. I was pleasantly surprised to know they also have cold brew which you can put your own sugar or cream in - for cream they had the standard milk, half and half, almond and seasonal pumpkin spice which was delicious. You can eat in or take away, there are quite a few tables and chairs if you want to stay. I really enjoyed the skateboard decks hanging on the wall for art and the inside mural of donuts. Picture it. Baltimore, 2017. My coworkers and I were told to come in what would be two hours before our shifts for a pre-shift meeting. Picture the long faces as everyone's still recuperating from the night prior. Things start looking up as the lead bartender comes down the hallway with what I'm thinking is a XL pizza. I fill with glee as I think of the delicious fats that my arteries are about to enjoy. Half of me is nervous thinking "Will we all even be able to get a slice?" It was our first time here and the nice hostess went through each and every donut--and it was an infinite assortment! From Creme brûlée to Irish carbombs, this place is any donut lovers heaven! Diablo is a peculiar place... imagine a donut shop by morning, pizza place by evening, and served all day long by people who look like they own a tattoo parlor. DONUTS - FYI the interesting ones (ex: samoa, captain crunch) run out early. I'd pass on marshmallow anything next time (too sweet!) and say that captain Chesapeake (w/ Old Bay!) is actually OK since the seasoning is light. This is probably one of the few gourmet donut shops in Baltimore, but if you're in DC anytime then District Doughnut is where the party's at! read more

Literally the greatest donuts of my life. I live about 35 minutes from Diablo with no traffic, of course I always go when there is traffic, so more like 45 minutes each way and it's worth it and then some. The people that work there are all wonderful - the creations are beautiful and innovative with fun names to boot. But the best part is the taste. I can't do cake donuts, they're too thick and sugary. These are light and fluffy and wonderful. Best donuts ever. I've been on a worldwide search for anything comparable - I've found one place in Portland, Oregon that came close but Diablo still wins. My first thought after numerous visits to Diablo Donuts is this place is much more than a donut shop. Fresh ingredients are procured to artistically create items such as blueberry cheese danishes, apple cider donuts, and vegetable quiche. I so miss when they had doughnuts delivered to Bmore Licks every weekend. We started celebrating National Doughnut Day in 2020 as a way to safely socially distance. We asked Roz to make dozens of minis and people loved them so much. When we could get them at Bmore Licks, I'd take my son there early in the morning to get a doughnut and a coffee for me and then we'd go to Patterson Park playground. It was such a lovely little tradition. Everything is always delicious and they're always willing to work with you for custom orders. read more

Delicious! I've been following these guys on social media for a while and finally made it in. Diablo reminded me of a Voodoo donuts style donut shop that you can find in Portland...but I honestly liked Diablo much better. All the fun toppings are great but they really have the donut batter cheat code. Soft and fluffy, perfect! Stopped in to try a few donuts and all of them were good. I enjoyed the ODB, Creme Brûlée, Unicorn and maple bacon. I would say my favorite was the ODB. Funky cool atmosphere and friendly staff. Can't wait to try more flavors! Checked them out before driving back home to NY. So glad I did. Their donuts were fantastic. Can't remember the names of the donuts but I'll never forget Unicorn Farts. Fruity Pebbles on a glazed donut? Yes, please. So tasty as well as the other 8 donuts (I ordered 6 but the very nice lady gave us 3 more). My husband comes here a couple times a month and was looking forward to bringing me here to try the doughnuts! We came pretty early on a Saturday because I wanted to make sure I had a chance to choose from all of the flavors. We decided to go with a 6 pack just so I could try a few flavors over the weekend. First off, they are huge! One is definitely enough for a serving, but if you know me desserts are my weakness so I would go with 2 on a normal day! The Samoa was divine! Toasted coconut, caramel and chocolate?? You can't beat it! I also really loved the Lemon Drop and Cherry Pistachio. The PB and Jelly would be great if you could make a yeast doughnut version, not a huge fan of the cake donut. The owner is always around and is so friendly, you can tell he loves his job. Not too much room inside to eat, but there are a couple tables and a bar area. Most people just took their doughnuts to go so not a big deal. read more

I have been following Diablo Doughnuts on Social Media for over a year, and have never really had the ample time to check out the spot until this past weekend. It certainly didn't disappoint. I ordered a dozen of about eight different flavors, and tried about four of them myself - and enjoyed every single one of them. The Strawberry Cheesecake was delicious(better chilled in the fridge, due to the icing), as was the Blackberry Lime. Downside is a dozen will run you about 25+ dollars, but this is a small business, so it is understood. read more

As a Rochesterian, I am very picky about my donuts. We have a couple of great makers who like to add unique touches to these sweet treats so when I hear of other places like this in Baltimore, I need to pay a visit and see if they're up to par. Diablo definitely lives up to the hype. I'm not going to lie, a friend told me about a donut here called the Unicorn Fart and I was sold. First of all, it's the cutest damn looking donut. It truly has character. It's pretty good too. The taste of the fruity pebbles can be a little overpowering though because it covers the majority of the donut. I also tried the Chocolate Espresso. All I tasted was chocolate, zero espresso. With that being said, it was still tasty. My favorite was the Strawberry Cheesecake donut. It had freshly sliced strawberries on top and was fresh, sweet, and flavorful. I would highly recommend everyone give this dark horse of a donut a try. Their coffee is pretty stellar and they offer flavored creamers. A drawback was the customer service. Every local donut shop I've ever been to has always explained their unique flavors. This shop didn't do that. We also needed to prompt them a couple of times on our order. They may have just been busy behind the counter when I visited but it was a noticeable difference. What a tasty Saturday afternoon! I loved the strawberry cheesecake donut - it was light (as light as a doughnut can be), fluffy and sweet. The icing in particular was great! The s'mores doughnut had an excellent presentation topped with a toasted marshmallow and was pretty good! Diablo Doughnuts has a rather run down interior but the doughnuts displayed in the front case are appealing! This is pretty much a typical standard specialty donut shop. We came after 1pm when it should have been closed, but to our surprise, they decided to keep the shop open for a little while longer. Most of the offerings were not cake-donut style (which is my favorite), but still looked great for anyone who likes the traditional fluffy fresh donuts. The donut flavors all had unique names (eg. Unicorn farts, panty dropper), and we opted for a Cinnamon Toast Crunch topped donut called Sin Crunch. It tasted as expected - not mind-blowing, but satisfied the after lunch sweet tooth. It is a little on the sweet side, but most donut lovers have high sugar tolerance so that is probably a good thing. Great donuts, great creativity and well named because you will need to sell your soul to the devil to afford the donuts. $30 plus for a dozen donuts....ouch. But they have an amazing array of donuts from the Blackout which is a chocolate covered donut with chocolate Bavarian cream inside. The real Bavarian cream that that crisco that franchise shops shove in their donuts. They also have donuts with Old Bay or bacon and fresh berries. OMG yumm! OK so I've been coveting these amazing looking doughnuts for about a year now and my awesome husband surprised us on a whim ( he's the best ) . He got 3 different types , espresso, Samoa and smores. The espresso was definitely an espresso flavor, the chocolate was infused with a yummy full bodied espresso so if you love that then this is your go to . Samoa was AMAZING ! The coconut was perfect, nice and not overly toasted or chewy, like a really good medium. The flavors of this doughnut just blended so well and I could easily eat two of these and not regret a thing lol . I love how it's rich but not overly sweet . Smores looked awesome, I didn't get to try a bite lol someone wasn't sharing. This will be the next to try on my list , it looked amazing and I heard it was great . I will say that these are a bit pricey and the ones we had were on the cheaper level but with how awesome these were I can only imagine how the premium ones will be . The consistency of the doughnuts themselves are just these amazing pillows of freshness, you can really taste the love and effort that goes into these . I totally recommend this place to anyone who craves something different yet familiar, they have lots of flavors from mild to wild . Experienced my first Diablo's donut today as part of Crawltimore - a bike ride donut crawl fundraiser. The best yeast donut in the City and tons of fun flavors with silly names. I ordered a few dozen doughnuts for a work event and had the staff pick the variety so we go quite the mixture. Every doughnut I tried was delicious and the people at my job went crazy for them. I even had a few people stop by later in the week to get more information so they could go back and get more. Customer service was great setting up my order and they were super responsive and even opened up on a day they were normally closed so that I could get my order! If ya really wanna feel like a local, and by local I mean privileged, slightly alternative white hipster local, you gotta check out Diablo. The interior COULD be a tattoo parlour if it didn't have loads and loads of donuts. They have so many creative flavors, and every donut is instagrammable. I double fist these donuts and eat four at a time, they're that good (and I'm THAT much of a freak). Fluffy, moist, not your average donut store with boring flavors. Owners were SOOO nice! You get a lei when you come inside. Sin crunch: cinnamon toast crunch on a donut but not just that! The entire donut tastes like cinnamon toasf crunch. Camp fire: marshmallow, bacon, and chocolate like your summer time camp fire. Oh and where is that smokey flavor from?! We'll never find out. I rarely spend time in Federal Hill, but I took advantage of an errand there this morning to walk around and explore. After passing Diablo twice, I finally couldn't resist and popped in. As soon as the woman at the counter described the bunny donut -- yeasted donut filled with raspberry and topped with buttercream, coconut, and marshmallow -- I was in. The doughnut was way more indulgent than I usually go for (I'm typically a simple cake donut gal) but so worth it (and didn't last more than a few minutes)! I really loved the flavor of the yeasted donut in particular; I would have just as soon eaten it without any filling and topping. This is definitely worth a stop if you are in Fed Hill -- or even worth a trip to Fed Hill altogether! read more
