I went here last night for the first time. The food came SO quickly- the appetizer and noodle dishes in 5-10 minutes and the chicken in maybe 10-15. We had the cold cucumbers app, marinated in garlic and very tasty. I got the spicy oil noodles which is listed as being very spicy. I asked if it could be a little less spicy, and they said yes, and it was perfect! I also got chicken skewers under the barbecue section of the menu. It came with 4 nice sized skewers, and it tasted like tandoori chicken. It was very spicy but tender and tasty! Would definitely come back and try other things! I've been curious about this place and was craving noodles on a Sunday (when Xian Famous Foods down the street is closed!) so seemed like the perfect time to give it a try. Temperature outside was low 80s and the AC in the restaurant was not working... however they did have fans blasting here and there, so the temperature in the restaurant wasn't too bad. We had a little trouble flagging someone down to take our orders (original beef noodles, lanzhou beef noodles-both with thick noodles, and lamb bbq skewers) but all good- the food came out super fast. The original beef noodles came topped off with thin slices of beef tendon and radishes- while simple, the broth was very aromatic and delicious (a little on the salty side.) The Lanzhou beef noodles were marked with two chili pepper icons to signify the spiciness, but it wasn't too spicy. The thick noodles were fantastic- just the right chew and thickness, and were satisfying to slurp up. Don't miss out on their BBQ skewers! The portions are tiny but the bits of lamb were spiced perfectly. For those that don't like lamb because of the game-y taste it has sometimes, the BBQ skewers here didn't have that taste at all and were delicious. read more

Came here on a Sunday around 2pm and was promptly seated. Service was good and the ambiance was nice! Unsure why other reviews say the service is bad. For appetizers we ordered the chicken salad (mouth watering chicken) and the eggplant salad. We loved them both! The eggplant stood out the most to us. The sauce is so addictive and delicious. For mains we ordered the mala noodles and the beef/tomato dish. I wish the mala noodles had beef in it but regardless it was a delicious dish. Slightly peanut-y and a little bit spicy. I wouldn't mind if it was a bit spicier actually! The beef and tomato dish was solid, but nothing spectacular. I would probably skip this dish. Being the most checked in customer for Dun Huang in Flushing, you should know how much I love this authentic northwestern Chinese restaurant. Same for the one in LIC after waiting for years, they have the same quality of LAN Zhou hand-pulled noodles and lambs. Something needs to know when ordering here. There are different thickness of noodles, and you gotta find your personal favorite thickness. Some of my friends like the thinnest, but I like the second thickest. For lamb, if you like lamb as much as I do, I highly suggest to try Mutton on the Bone. If you not so much into lamb, you still need to try Braised Lamb Shoulder that comes with more flavor. Overall, if you live or work around, its a perfect place for quick lunch or dinner. If you want to try authentic and the best Northwestern Chinese food, you also gotta come here. read more

If you are looking for spicy, this place will bring in the heat like you would never know, but it's going to burn so good. We ordered braised beef noodles, signature lan zhou beef, mapo tofu, lamb chinese hamburger, beef hamburger, and wide glass noodles. The price is very reasonable as well. I LOVE the chinese hamburger, especially the lamb with the cumin. It was so addictive and flavorful. Between the noodles, I would recommend the braised beef noodles. The glass noodles were also such a hit with a wonderful chew texture, but it's the spiciest thing we picked. The beef was so tender, and the soup was fantastic. I highly recommend it, but if you are not good with spice, I would definitely bring a nice quart of ice cream or milk with you. I've been here nearly a dozen times in the past year, often bringing friends and family who are visiting NYC/LIC. The food here is very tasty, and the price is fair. Tonight, my family and I thought it would be yet another time where we would introduce two friends, one local and one visiting from out of town, to our local favorite. We arrived at 840 today, on a Friday night. My friend asked for a table for five, and the waitress responded in Mandarin. My friend is Asian but does not speak Chinese, so she simply repeated her request for a table for five. At this, the waitress rolled her eyes, and a different waiter told us they couldn't take a table for five at 840. 1. Firstly, we found that the waitress's dismissive response to my friend's request for a table was extremely rude and honestly quite disappointing, casting a shadow over our previous memories of Dun Huang. 2. To have last call at 840 on Friday night when the restaurant closes at 930 seems very unusual. My friends and I recall arriving around the same time in the past and still being seated. Overall, this place has tasty food at a fair price, but the service may leave a bad taste in your mouth if you don't speak Mandarin, and the last call may happen ~50 minutes before closing depending on who's working, so call ahead. read more

This place is fire. I always get the dry hot pot, any fried noodle dish, and this other dish (I think braised lamb or beef with flat noodles?). Everything I had here was 10/10. They say on their menu the noodles will take longer but every time I've came here all the food was ready super quick. Portions are huge, and prices are reasonable. We always have leftovers to take home. I've actually never ordered their noodle soup which seems to be their signature dish, I'll have to try it next time. Service is extremely on point, they refill water, napkins, keep the table clean, etc. at a rapid pace. Sometimes it was to the point of being comically efficient, but I appreciated how much they want to take care of you. It's been decently crowded but never too packed which is nice. Nothing better then a hot bowl of hand pull noodle soup on a cold winter. This was my first time trying this spot down in LIC, Ive been to the one in flushing, it's closer to home. I was in the lic area, in search for some noodle soup. the area's definitely grown the past three years, I'm getting to see more and more asian authentic cuisines. I walked past this spot and was like wooh, hand pull noodle. The place looks pretty modern Asian style with wooden tables and chairs, we came in and was taken straight to our table. We looked at the menu, I can tell it was designed to make it easy to translate in English, which's great. I ordered the braised beef noodle soup with the wide noodles, the pickled cabbage and the popcorn chicken, the portion came out pretty small. I was amazed by the pickled cabbage, so delicious, the noodle soup was good, wish they made it a pinch spicy, it had 1 red pepper on the menu description, I didn't taste the spiciness at all. What I didn't like was the popcorn chicken, it was over fried and it came all the way at the end when I almost finished we end up just packing it to go, I would have gave it a five star if my appetizer was cooked better. read more

I gave this place a chance and the first time I ordered pan fried noodles with chicken. It was good. Second time I ordered spicy chicken wings and they were horrible. How do you serve UNCOOKED chicken. Are you trying to make people sick????? The chicken was clearly out of a frozen bag pre battered. Then you charge $9.50 for 5 baby wings not even whole wings. They were undercooked and the powder spice was thrown in the corner. I would walk back to the store and get a refund but I'll never go there again and leave it with these pictures and urge others not to go here. It's not worth possible food poisoning. I love this place. Legitimate NW Chinese food- so happy it was added to the neighborhood. The spicy oil spill noodles are my favorite. The marinated cucumbers also a staple as are the wood ear mushrooms. When it initially opened, I will admit the service in restaurant was pretty bad- forgetful, orders were wrong, inattentive service the first 3-4 times. I went there twice. The first time was two days ago and the last time is today. The only reason that I go back there for the second time is because the food. The service was horrible, all servers are running chicken with no head. Ordered iced tea, the tea came in room temperature. It is not even refrigerated. Are you kidding me. I have to flagged down server couple time to get the ice. And the water is room temperature too. Again, you have to flagged down the server again. The server never came back and ask us how the food/service is. My son accidentally dropped the plastic spoon to the floor, and one of the guy server literally picked up and put it back to my table. Are you kidding me??? What's wrong with this guy. Mind you my son is still a 20 months old baby. They literally don't care about hygiene. And lastly but not least, I have to flagged down the server for my bill, and they takes forever to get to me but when they do bill you, they charge you through their handheld device without even show you the bill. And the tips section is defaulted at 18%. Most importantly, I was charged incorrectly. I didn't even order total $74.17 worth of food. Why they put someone else food items on my bill??? One of the worst Chinese restaurants I've had in nyc. I had the Lan Zhou noodles a few years ago in Manhattan and it was decent. However, when I tried the same noodles in lic, it tasted awful. The soup had no flavor and tasted like water. The noodles were okay but did add any good to the whole dish.
