WOW! Went here for the first time for my birthday dinner last night. A table of 6. The mixologist at the bar was incredible. Drinks were phenomenal. The service was impeccable. Our waiter answered all questions, he even took the time to show us the different cuts of beef before they were cooked. You have to try the Brie appetizer. Phenomenal. EVERYTHING we ordered was impeccable. The Australian Wagyu was delicious. The chef cooked everything to perfection! I love how they did not rush you and let you take your time! I have visited and been a patron of Dewz many times over the years, as have many of my friends and family. I am shocked at the experience some friends have had this month (see the review by Kari F.) They were accused of stealing silverware/knife rests. I can assure you that this group of people did not and would not seal anything. Truly Absurd. All of them are successful business owners and leaders in their respective communities. To be accused of stealing utensil holders is beyond riduclous. When they were told to return them, they assured the staff and manager they had not stolen anything, much less 4 knife rests and assured them this was not the case; the manager insisted they had. The party of 6 then offered to empty their pockets (one person did) and open their handbags to show nothing was taken (which in my opinion, they should not have even offered) - the manager then refused their efforts to demonstrate their innocence. The manager decided then to double down on the accusation and insist they had stolen the knife rests. Wow. I have no words. This is no way to run a business or treat customers in a "fine dining" restaurant. Unbelievable and shocking. I suppose if the manager was so certain, he should have simply called the police. Interesting he didn't. I know one thing, it will cost Dewz more money in lost business than it would cost to replace what you think was taken - which again, I can promise you these business leaders are not thieves and did not take your silly knife rest. I cannot express how absurd the accusation is or how poorly Dewz has addressed this. I am further shocked the manager felt it necessary to complain about the group not leaving a tip... Are you kidding? You wrongly accused your customers of stealing and then demanded you were right and justified in doing so. It seems to me, that you are likely the wrong person for the manager position. Knowing the party well, I am sure the bill they paid was at least somewhere between $400 and $600... so yep, no tip when your waitstaff and manager accuse your patrons of stealing. I am curious, any chance a minimum wage employee picked them up either by accident or on purpose? Could they have been picked up with dishes and silverware throughout the night? The answer of course is yes, it is possible something else happened to your silly silverware holders. I know after hearing this I will not be returning to Dewz anytime soon. Hopefully, the owners recognize the management deficiencies and handle them accordingly. Wow. I hope if you choose to visit Dewz you are not accused of stealing; apparently, they have knife rests that are irresistible and made of precious metals that even the most financially secure can't help but take one home. I've visited this establishment a few times, but unfortunately... the last visit was not pleasant. Ordered the Brie starter--- tasted a tad different, but husband enjoyed it. Meal: filet mignon... it was good but this was the first time trying it with the sauce. It was way too salty, but I managed to move it aside and enjoy the delicious potatoes. I am not normally a huge calamari fan. However, I didn't realize there was a difference between shorttail and longtail. Most restauarants serve the shorttail version. Dewz now has longtail, and oh my goodness...what a difference. So light, not rubbery or chewy. Sounds strange to say, almost melts in your mouth about calamari, but this version does. What can I say about Dewz? The whole experience this evening was amazing, it was the perfect place to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Their smoked old fashioned is hands down the best old fashioned I have ever imbibed. My wife loved the Jamaican Unicorn. The lobster bisque was superb. We shared a 28oz bone in rib-eye which was cooked to perfection. The loaded fries were unbelievable. The potato purée was fabulous. The sautéed mushrooms were stupendous. My wife a friend of hers and I went to dewz several months ago and had an AMAZING experience. The complete opposite was the case for our last visit. We went this past weekend, My wife and I got their early thinking we would have a drink and an appetizer while we waited for our table. On our arrival, the bar area was completely filled with dirty plates and glasses So rather than sit at the bar, we grabbed a small table in the bar area, where we were completely ignored for 25 minutes. The finally cleaned the bar so we sat down and ordered a drink. Thinking that our table would be ready soon, we didn't order anything to eat. Our table was ready near our reservation time and we were led to our seats where we waited probably close to 15 maybe 20 minutes for them to order our appetizers and another drinks. After ordering our drinks we waited close to another 15 minutes for them to arrive. We ordered the bone in rib-eye, which we were told would take some time to prepare, we were okay with that. It was probably 45 minutes when our meal finally arrived, the bone in ribeye, which they charge, I believe 245.00 for was ranged from rare to literally raw. Our reservation time was 8:15 it was close to 10pm by time we finally got our food, and it was raw (we ordered it medium) Now, in their defense, the server offered to take it back and have it cooked up, but by this time we were frustrated and aggravated and wanted to leave. Again, to their credit, the did reduce our for part off the cost of the steak but our night was ruined. Like most people we work a lot of long hours and we were really excited about having a fun date night at a restaurant we had an amazing experience at just a few months about. I reserved our table for 2 a month in advance. I didn't receive a confirmation email, but Yelp said I had the reservation. A day or 2 before the date, I got a confirmation text from Yelp. We arrived at opening time, 5:30p. We did not visit the bar, went directly to our table. We were promptly greeted by Will, a "just the right amount of friendly" and competent server. He took our order promptly then returned with some delicious bread and dipping oil. Unfortunately, the meal (8 oz filet and the salmon) took an hour to get to the table. Since we had other things on our agenda that night, and still had to wait for an Uber, we only had about 15 minutes to eat and comfortably keep our schedule. This was my least favorite 15 minutes of the night. I do not enjoy feeling rushed through a $180 meal. Overall, the food was really good. The filet was perfectly cooked to order, tho not really the quality that I expected. Not bad, just not fantastic. The salmon was a little undercooked. I thought I had built sufficient time into the schedule to handle these variables, but unfortunately no. No time for dessert either. Will was pleasant and apologetic, but time waits for no man. My only suggestion would be to set the guest's expectations about when the food will arrive and maybe tell the kitchen to step it up a little on behalf of the guests. We were only 2 of 8 people in the restaurant, so they were not slammed with orders. Bottom line - be prepared to spend a bit more than the experience would offer. The food is really good and the staff is accommodating. The kitchen may have trouble getting up to speed, so if you go a little later, your experience may be better - but I can't say with accuracy. read more

So...we arrived (with reservations) at opening (5:30). Our group of six was the first seated in the dining area. We immediately notified the waiter that we were attending a show at the Gallo at 7:30 and wanted to leave by 7pm. He acknowledged that to the entire party and took our limited drink order (most of us only wanted water). Our orders were placed not long after being seated and we then enjoyed conversation with our friends...FOR AN HOUR AND TWENTY MINUTES!!! We had 10 minutes to eat our pretty expensive meals (I.e. a chicken leg and thigh with fries for $34 - and we never got the ketchup that we asked for) and hit the road. It wasn't just the wait though. The two orders of Airline Chicken were lukewarm and the mashed potatoes were actually cold! One member of our group ordered the short ribs, received the bowl of soup that accompanied it but was told later that they were out of ribs (remember when I said we were the first party seated that night? The wait staff should have been told there were no ribs before starting to take orders). The filet mignon plated for one of our group was reported as, "fine". As you may surmise, we weren't very pleased with our experience. The waiter did credit us for one chicken plate. The total for six, with one free chicken, three drinks, and one person only eating soup (she gave up after the ribs were unavailable)...approx. $250. The total didn't phase us but the value and the fact the we had to rush through the actual meal was EXTREMELY disappointing. The wait staff was pleasant and our water glasses were never empty. The ambiance was good and we were able to carry on a good conversation at normal volumes. However, we will not be returning. Good luck! read more

Exceptional food and service, in a fine dining atmosphere. This is our go-to for all of our special occasions, and slow dinners in between. Our last visit was just for drinks and appetizers: shishito peppers, tuna poke and calamari, shown here. If you are going for dinner, I recommend the lobster bisque, Caesar salad, New York with blue cheese crust, if you're a steak person, if you're not, one of the fresh made pasta specials are always delicious. Located on J St on the corner the sign says Dewz Wine Tasting room, serving till 2:30, then they offer dinner next door starting @ 4:30. I ordered the Corn Fritters ~ OMG SIMPLY FAB the presentation was very inviting also. Presented as a stacked entree, sauce on the plate, potato pancake like, corn fritters, bacon, avocado mousse and a scrambled egg on top with greens plus 2 thinly sliced pepper circles ~. JUST WONDERFUL, and I was TOTALLY SHOCKED how good it was. My friend had the Chiliques ~also beautiful in presentation. Chiliques are a form of nachos, but not really~ tortillas with a green spicy sauce, poached egg. Rich, filling and my friend raved how good it was. The service was quite good also our server very soft spoken, but very attentive Check their hours before going, they are closed Sunday/Monday & brunch is served till 2:30, I believe they open @ 10. She accused our group of stealing a utensil rest. We asked to speak to the manager and he was no help and insinuated that we had taken one. I'm sorry but who on earth needs to steal a utensil rest. Dewz is without a doubt the best and I would consider it the only real fine dining restaurant in the Modesto area. My wife and I go to Dewz because it is always consistent, impressive, and inspiring. I cook for a living and have worked in almost every upscale restaurant in the area, including some time working at Dewz . The food is expensive for good reason. They order very high quality ingredients and if it is not up to par Chef Daniel will send it back. Everything at Dewz is made from scratch and it's a lot of work and a process to make everything there. Chef Daniel is the youngest chef I have ever worked under but he's one of the best. He is intelligent, talented, has high standards, and truly cares about what he does. We just ate there again tonight for our anniversary and it was awesome.
