So last night I went to Devon House for the first time last night! I had a great experience. The staff and the food was delicious. The lobster bisque was delicious but the portion was small. I ordered the scallops dinner and it was cooked to perfection. My waiter was Joe and he was a pleasures very knowledgeable about the menu and made great suggestions. The only downside were the bathrooms. They were unclean and unisex. Other than that, a great experience and I will be back! Especially for the vanilla creme brûlée! read more

I still enjoy Devon. I am SO glad they changed to cheddar biscuits from those crumbly dry sweet ones they used to give out. And the happy hour is always a good deal. HOWEVER I just want to say that I miss the days of going to happy hour and having the "lobster at cost" be $10-$11 Which is pretty reasonable considering we can buy live lobsters at the Giant or Weis for between 8.99-11.99 a lb. But NOW they're like $15. Seriously does it cost Devon $15 for a 1lb lobster? That doesn't seem like "cost" Its not a deal breaker for me, I'll still go and enjoy other menu items but I just miss my cheap(er) lobster. Tonight for Happy Hour I had the Spicy Tuna Sushi roll. Its really good tuna slices not the chopped up kind you see other places when you order a spicy tuna rolll. The spicy sauce is REALLY spicy. It is lip burning. But its lip burning GOOD. I also had the shrimp scampi which is so good. The shrimp are cooked perfectly and its buttery and garlicky but not greasy and its served with some yummy garlic bread. I also got a $3 lobster claw. It was served chilled with some cocktail sauce and another sauce I didn't identify. I love how they put fresh horseradish on top of the cocktail sauce. So that was fun. Didn't get dessert this time. My wife and I dined at Devon on Labor Day. Simply stated the food was perfect. The food presentation was clean and unpretentious. Every dish was delicious and perfectly cooked. I had the Halibut and my wife the Scallops. The staff was extremely well trained and our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and made some terrific recommendations. Now that I'm running out of adjectives to express how nice our meal was, I will end with saying Devon is the finest restaurant in Hershey and if you are visiting you won't want to miss the opportunity to dine there. read more

My boyfriend took me here for my birthday while we were visiting Hershey for work. We had made a reservation (which I recommend you do! It got busy quickly, even for a Tuesday night). The menu was impressive, but it was the appetizers that caught our eye! Since we couldn't decide, we ended up just ordering a bunch of appetizers to share (the lump crab, calamari, sushi, lobster Mac and cheese, and the oysters Rockefeller). Everything was delicious, but my favorites were definitely the calamari and the sushi. The crab was fairly smaller than I had expected and the oysters were pretty much 5 shells with some cheese inside. The decor was classy and the service was very efficient and friendly! Phenomenal. Consistently first-rate A+ quality food, drink, and service in a chic environment. Seafood is the standout but steaks are great, too. Although it's pricey (you can easily spend $40+/pp before adding drinks), the quality is outstanding and the portions generous. For an example: I've shared the grilled seafood platter (crab cakes, scallops, shrimp, salmon, plus plated sides) with my wife and an app (Thai mussels are great - ask for bread to soak up that delectable broth). That's enough to fill two people happily. Surf & turf combos are also very popular and enable you to try a center-cut filet + your choice of seafood to accompany (including lobster, of course). Sides are also fantastic, which is a rarity: some of the best mashed potatoes I've ever had, great Mac & cheese with or without lobster, cauliflower w/ bacon & onion, etc.) The cocktails are top-notch like you'd find in the big city (I found a new favorite w/small-batch bourbon & a variety of bitters), the wine list is extensive, and there are some craft beer options. Dessert is also impressive if you can make room. Plan to spend a couple hours and a decent bit of $$. Worth every penny and a long drive. read more

Before I get into the actual review, I want to say that the restaurant is very nice and quiet and feels intimate even if you are at a table in the middle of the dining room. We dressed up a bit, but there were definitely people dressed more casually in case you were unsure what to wear! Now for the food: This was one of the top 3 meals I have ever had in my life. Starting with the drinks, I got the Hershey kiss martini which was absolutely delicious, and my parents got a bottle of red wine that was so smooth and delicious, and I don't love dry reds. The appetizers (fried calamari and oysters Rockefeller) were some of the best I've ever had. Then I got the scallops served over lobster risotto, which were cooked to perfection. My dad's filet mignon was literally the best steak I have ever tasted, and it was smoky which added so much to the meal. It came time for dessert and I couldn't say no. We got creme brûlée and cheesecake to split, which were - you guessed it - fantastic. On top of it all, our waitress Emily was nothing but kind, attentive, and professional. She always had what we needed without asking. Overall I would 1000% recommend this place to anyone, and I can't wait to get back. read more

We wanted a nice sit down dinner on our way home from a New Years family vacation. This restaurant is about 10 miles from the Harrisburg International Airport. It's relatively quiet with nice jazz music playing in the background. I was able to try a new fish (for me). It's called barramundi (sp?), a form of sea bass. It was nice, but not out of this world. My husband had the seafood boullabaise and my son had a steak. Both said their meals were outstanding. Would probably come back. read more

My fiancé made a reservation here so that we could have a bite to eat before we'd visited Hershey park. I must say I was a little surprised at the prices when we 1st sat down, but the food was out of this world. I'm sure our bill would have been more reasonable had we not both consumed a couple of alcoholic drinks each. Having said that, I would go back to this place in a heart beat. My fiancé started us off with Tuna tartare, which worried me a little bit as I'm not a fancy eater. However, my mother said never say you don't like something until you try it, so I tried it. And like Mikey, I liked it. If you're not old enough to know who Mikey is, that last line probably didn't make sense. In any case, my fiancé had the seafood special that evening and I had the Filet Mignon. We share bites, so it was like having a surf and turf dinner without the surf and turf price. My sides included Mushroom Risotto & creamed corn with bacon. I don't know how they get so much flavor in the sides but those were the best side dishes I've ever had. This experience has led me to the conclusion that paying a bit more for your meal can result in some very exquisite tastes. Not that the meal was very expensive, after comparing it to other nice restaurants, just a tadd more, but it was worth every penny. I would go back in a heartbeat. P S. It's an amazing restaurant because it has everything fresh and they catch everything the same day they serve you so their menu constantly changes it's delicious.The waitress was explaining how it depends what's in season and that's what they serve so all the menu options change his depends when you come to restaurant. I ordered the crabcakes were very fluffy and not too fried. The lobster roll was really good too it had chunks of lobster inside a little like Hawaiian bread which very served with french fries on the side. They also had sushi which you can really taste the spicy tuna being fresh. I had the scallops with the lobster macaroni with the mushrooms grilled mushrooms both delicious and for dessert we had the chocolate cake that was rich and chocolate and the Hershey dessert drink that was really good highly recommend it read more

Arrived at 6:45 for our 7 pm reservation. We were seated immediately and the place appeared to be about half full with tables clearing out. Two tables near us had people seated just before us. Another table was seated with people about 15 minutes after us. Fast forward an hour and 15 minutes later. Two of the other tables finished and left. The other who arrived after us had an appetizer and then entrees served. We still did not have any food. We were so excited to receive a gift card for Christmas as we really wanted to try this place for a long time. On Tuesday, hubby and I opted to come for a nice lunch. We arrive and sit at the bar like we tend to do. We are promptly offered drinks. I decline, but hubby has beer. Yelp offered a free calamari appetizer (only good Monday through Thursday, lunch only) that we were able to take advantage of. Thanks, Yelp! We also order crab cakes ($23) and hubby orders fish n chips ($15). And then we wait. And wait. And wait. I asked hubby if they were out squid fishing to get the calamari. Finally, after about 35 minutes, our server brings the calamari and says "I have your entree here too." Seriously? Look, I'm about as low maintenance a customer as you'll see...but this is a huge, HUGE pet peeve of mine. Especially at a place as pricey and upscale as Devon purports to be. There is no way in hell I want all my food thrown at me at once. Part of dining at Devon should be the EXPERIENCE. Having the entree and the appetizer arrive together absolutely can not happen at a place like this. On top of this, as mentioned by various other reviewers, the food was lukewarm at best, and got cold before I took my second bite. In addition, my crab cakes, which are advertised as being served with "yukon gold whipped potatoes" was instead served with a VERY small portion of cold, previously frozen, industrial fries. When I asked the server if the crab cakes came with whipped potatoes, she said "oh, I'm sorry! I thought they came with fries for lunch!" So she physically had to punch in fries instead of whipped potatoes. She did offer to get me the whipped potatoes, but at that point I didn't feel like it was worth the effort. The food itself was delicious. It really was. But I can not justify spending so much money for the type of service you would expect from a lower end restaurant. I'm really disappointed. read more

Upon our arrival the restaurant was virtually empty (at 4:30 pm) on a Friday night we were only offered a "Bar top table" when we asked for another table we were then offered a table in the back. Ok, so fast forward an hour later to 5:30 pm as we were wrapping our dinner up at our bar top table,the restaurant was still 1/2 empty!! So why couldn't we have been offer a nicer table ? The servers and all the support team is awesome but when you go out for dinner you want good ( me I prefer great) food. I had seafood cioppino which was suppose to be in a savory tomato broth The seafood was way overcooked and rubbery The tomato broth tasted like a jar full of your least favorite Ragu No seafood base blended in the tomato sauce , however the good news is everything was served over some pasta Wife had the lobster Cobb but the lobster must have been prepared the Thursday before Dry and bland The apps were good , I had clams ( raw) difficult to screw them up and the calamari was good but then anything fried usually is! I have eaten at Devon about 5 times in the past 4 years & never had a bad meal. They make great craft cocktails & have a very nice wine list with glasses being offered in 6oz & 9oz pours. Their appetizers are fabulous & the portions are usually large. When I was here in April 2017 two of us split exclusively appetizers & we couldn't even finish them all! Most recently I was there on Memorial Day Monday (reservations are suggested, this place gets very crowded on weekends) with a 6pm reservation. We were seated promptly & our waiter was very personable. Always back to check, but not intrusive. I was happy to see that we could get a free calamari appetizer for checking in on Yelp! That's a $12.50 value folks! And it was a large platter with 2 dipping sauces & also some fried jalepenos & other fried veggies included. We didn't finish that either, but it was quite tasty. My friend ordered white wine and I ordered a Pinot Noir. We both had 9oz pours, so they give you a tiny carafe. Devon is pricey, but it's worth the splurge for the unique variety of seafood & entree available. My friend had a mixed seafood grill and needed a box for leftovers. I ordered seafood cioppino, which had clams, shrimp, scallops, mussels in a thick tomato sauce. It was divine. The ambiance is nice & it's not too loud for conversation. First indoor dining experience since Covid and we chose Devon's. Felt more secure to see the hand sanitizing stations and guidance stickers on the floor for social distancing. Very much enjoyed the quieter dining experience with less people in the restaurant and the seating spread apart - it added to a more relaxing atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We started with two appetizers - the fried calamari and the Mini Lobster rolls. The calamari was lightly battered and very tender ... interesting as it came with fried shredded carrots and fried jalapeños and 2 dipping sauces. Excellent flavors and textures. Sadly the mini lobster rolls that looked amazing lacked in flavor and had corn added to the lobster mix. Mostly tasted the toasted roll and not much else. It was not bad but just not much lobster flavor. Onto the main course - grilled seafood dinner which had all the favorites - salmon, shrimp, scallops, and a crab cake. The portions were very generous. Being from MD, I'm picky about my crab cakes - it could have been cooked a little longer I thought and it had bit more of a crab imperial type texture to it than I'm used to. The other seafood items were very tasty and cooked perfectly and not over done. The asparagus side was a little overcooked for my own liking. On the appetizers and entree, there was burnt toast served with the dishes, which left a lingering taste throughout the rest of the dinner. The shrimp weren't cleaned all the way. The chicken on the pasta dish was overcooked and the overall pasta dish was lack luster if not gross. For the dessert, the chocolate mousse was heavy and grainy, nothing like a mousse should be and left a gritty texture. Overall the food was a complete let down. An absolutely great place to get fresh, high quality sea food and steak. We started off with clams as an appetizer, and they came promptly and with some amazing garlic bread. This is a place that deserves 4.5 stars. Service is wonderful and so are the cocktails. We had a great anniversary celebrating at Devon. We used to go to the Philadelphia Rittenhouse Square location semi-frequently, but moving westward has made that too difficult. This location has its perks. It is a newer building and a lot less crowded. Enjoy modern luxury of this restaurant, but don't let the price tag scare you away. If you come for their weekend happy hours from 2-4 PM, you will get so much for your money. Our server was fabulous and very attentive. We wore jeans, but I would dress a little nicer for dinner. Almost everyone we saw was dressed casual to business casual. The drinks were fabulous and I had premium cocktails for $7. The Hershey kiss cocktail is a little sweet, but not obnoxious. They also serve 1/2 bottles of wine during this time. YES PLEASE! We ordered the following appetizers for $6--7 a piece: Shrimp Scampi-incredibly good (5/5) Order this if you love garlic and or shrimp. It also comes with additional carbs (almost a garlic butter bread). Bruschetta with goat cheese-good (4/5) very heavy and the crostini could shred your mouth, I loved the side salad with it. My husband ate 2/3 of that goat cheese. It was so good. Calamari-okay (3/5) This was too dense/heavy for two people. You need to really love fried food or hate your arteries to eat a lot of this. I could only do a few bites before I felt overwhelmed. I love the tempura battered carrots and jalapenos with it and the sweet and sour sauce. I would only order this again, if we had at least 4 people. Lobster Rolls-okay (3/5) My husband prefers there is no accouterments to his lobster roll. He prefers a toasted roll with lovely decadent lobster in a butter or mayo sauce. I understand that the chefs probably put those herbs or veggies in there to delight a palette, but not for him. They also came with fries (an unnecessary addition.) Mussels in Coconut broth-so good (4/5). I would prefer if the sauce wasn't so thick, however the lime juice from the fresh lime perfected this dish. I ate the entire bowl by myself. It was so worth it. With my husband having two beers and I ordered all the above with two cocktails to boot, we spent less than $75 with tip. That is fabulous for the quality and quantity we received. Had a really nice dinner here tonight for an early Mother's Day celebration. The restaurant is spacious and has a nice ambiance. Large selection of fresh seafood dishes to choose from. Everything was delicious. I had the Alaskan Halibut that was a special of the day. Light, meaty and delicious. The side dishes took it to a whole new level. I loved the roasted cauliflower with bacon onion jam. And the broccoli was perfectly cooked. We share the coconut cake. Tip: Expect to pay more than what you get. It is on the more expensive side, but I think you are paying for the atmosphere. In my opinion, the atmosphere feels a little forced so it wasn't worth it. Other than that, service was good and the food was above average. My sisters and I shared a bottle of wine, a surf and turf plate and an appetizer and the bill was over $100! Insanity. I have been a steady customer of The Devon for the past five plus years - without question, I have easily spent at least $15,000 on family and business meals there. I always make my reservations online (via Open Table) a few weeks ahead of time along with any special table request. This past Saturday (November 3, 2018) I had a reservation for a table of 6 and with my online reservation I specifically asked for a table in the side dining room (as it's a quieter room and a couple of my guests had hearing issues) - my request was confirmed on the telephone on Friday, November 2 when an employee called me to confirm the reservation. We arrived 10 minutes early - at that time I was told that we did not have a table in the room we requested. Okay, so much for accommodating my guests with a hearing issue. Then they took us to our table in the main dining room - rather than giving us a table that is intended for 6 people they crammed 6 of us into a 4-top table. I immediately told the hostess this wasn't going to work so she went to get her supervisor/manager. The female supervisor/manager then came over and said there was nothing they could do - they were just too busy. Honestly, she could have cared less about accommodating us. This dinner was a birthday celebration for a friend who drove 3 hours (with her husband) to attend. What was intended to be something special turned into a loud and uncomfortable ruined evening. The pisser is that the Devon clearly knew ahead of time that they could not accommodate our request yet they did not have the courtesy to contact me in advance so could have had the opportunity to find another restaurant. They can call me to confirm my reservation but they can't call me to say we're too busy to accommodate your request. It's obvious where the Devon's (and Hershey's) priorities are. Just so the Devon management doesn't finger point, this review was not caused by our server (she was great) - this review is solely due to Devon's management (and the lack of). read more
