Although it's pricey (you can easily spend $40+/pp before adding drinks), the quality is outstanding and the portions generous. For an example: I've shared the grilled seafood platter (crab cakes, scallops, shrimp, salmon, plus plated sides) with my wife and an app (Thai mussels are great - ask for bread to soak up that delectable broth). That's enough to fill two people happily. Surf & turf combos are also very popular and enable you to try a center-cut filet + your choice of seafood to accompany (including lobster, of course). Sides are also fantastic, which is a rarity: some of the best mashed potatoes I've ever had, great Mac & cheese with or without lobster, cauliflower w/ bacon & onion, etc.) The cocktails are top-notch like you'd find in the big city (I found a new favorite w/small-batch bourbon & a variety of bitters), the wine list is extensive, and there are some craft beer options. Before I get into the actual review, I want to say that the restaurant is very nice and quiet and feels intimate even if you are at a table in the middle of the dining room. We dressed up a bit, but there were definitely people dressed more casually in case you were unsure what to wear! Now for the food: This was one of the top 3 meals I have ever had in my life. Starting with the drinks, I got the Hershey kiss martini which was absolutely delicious, and my parents got a bottle of red wine that was so smooth and delicious, and I don't love dry reds. The appetizers (fried calamari and oysters Rockefeller) were some of the best I've ever had. Then I got the scallops served over lobster risotto, which were cooked to perfection. My dad's filet mignon was literally the best steak I have ever tasted, and it was smoky which added so much to the meal. It came time for dessert and I couldn't say no. We got creme brûlée and cheesecake to split, which were - you guessed it - fantastic. On top of it all, our waitress Emily was nothing but kind, attentive, and professional. So my wife and I finally dropped in for dinner and the service and food was absolutely stunning. Devon has moved to the top of our list for dining and we are already planning the next dinner date. My wife had the clams for an appetizer and they were perfectly prepared. My lobster rolls were delicious and got me excited for the lobster bisque that was to come. I'd had a lot of bad experiences with bisque lately so I was pleasantly surprised to find the bisque was exquisite. Perfect balance of sherry and Cream. My wife had the mixed grilled seafood and she didn't say a word for the entire experience (unless mmmmmmm is a word) I had a steak and scallops and the Steak was done very well, and I barely used a knife to cut it. If I had any complaint the grilled Brussel Sprouts were a touch too crispy for my taste but the flavor was good. All in all, I would recommend this place to everyone who has a taste for seafood. It is uncommon to find food this fresh and well prepared this far from the coast but Devons does it hands down. And for service, Jennifer killed it. She was very knowledgeable not only on the menu but on sourcing and preparation as well. She displayed a friendly and professional attitude that marked our dining experience as one of the best we have had in many years, including dining in 5 star resorts. My fiancé made a reservation here so that we could have a bite to eat before we'd visited Hershey park. I must say I was a little surprised at the prices when we 1st sat down, but the food was out of this world. I'm sure our bill would have been more reasonable had we not both consumed a couple of alcoholic drinks each. Having said that, I would go back to this place in a heart beat. My fiancé started us off with Tuna tartare, which worried me a little bit as I'm not a fancy eater. However, my mother said never say you don't like something until you try it, so I tried it. And like Mikey, I liked it. If you're not old enough to know who Mikey is, that last line probably didn't make sense. In any case, my fiancé had the seafood special that evening and I had the Filet Mignon. We share bites, so it was like having a surf and turf dinner without the surf and turf price. My sides included Mushroom Risotto & creamed corn with bacon. I don't know how they get so much flavor in the sides but those were the best side dishes I've ever had. This experience has led me to the conclusion that paying a bit more for your meal can result in some very exquisite tastes. Not that the meal was very expensive, after comparing it to other nice restaurants, just a tadd more, but it was worth every penny. I would go back in a heartbeat. P S. It's an amazing restaurant because it has everything fresh and they catch everything the same day they serve you so their menu constantly changes it's delicious.The waitress was explaining how it depends what's in season and that's what they serve so all the menu options change his depends when you come to restaurant. I ordered the crabcakes were very fluffy and not too fried. The lobster roll was really good too it had chunks of lobster inside a little like Hawaiian bread which very served with french fries on the side. They also had sushi which you can really taste the spicy tuna being fresh. We were so excited to receive a gift card for Christmas as we really wanted to try this place for a long time. On Tuesday, hubby and I opted to come for a nice lunch. We arrive and sit at the bar like we tend to do. We are promptly offered drinks. I decline, but hubby has beer. Yelp offered a free calamari appetizer (only good Monday through Thursday, lunch only) that we were able to take advantage of. Thanks, Yelp! We also order crab cakes ($23) and hubby orders fish n chips ($15). And then we wait. And wait. And wait. I asked hubby if they were out squid fishing to get the calamari. Finally, after about 35 minutes, our server brings the calamari and says "I have your entree here too." Seriously? Look, I'm about as low maintenance a customer as you'll see...but this is a huge, HUGE pet peeve of mine. Especially at a place as pricey and upscale as Devon purports to be. There is no way in hell I want all my food thrown at me at once. Part of dining at Devon should be the EXPERIENCE. Having the entree and the appetizer arrive together absolutely can not happen at a place like this. On top of this, as mentioned by various other reviewers, the food was lukewarm at best, and got cold before I took my second bite. In addition, my crab cakes, which are advertised as being served with "yukon gold whipped potatoes" was instead served with a VERY small portion of cold, previously frozen, industrial fries. When I asked the server if the crab cakes came with whipped potatoes, she said "oh, I'm sorry! I thought they came with fries for lunch!" So she physically had to punch in fries instead of whipped potatoes. She did offer to get me the whipped potatoes, but at that point I didn't feel like it was worth the effort. First indoor dining experience since Covid and we chose Devon's. Felt more secure to see the hand sanitizing stations and guidance stickers on the floor for social distancing. Very much enjoyed the quieter dining experience with less people in the restaurant and the seating spread apart - it added to a more relaxing atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We started with two appetizers - the fried calamari and the Mini Lobster rolls. The calamari was lightly battered and very tender ... interesting as it came with fried shredded carrots and fried jalapeños and 2 dipping sauces. Excellent flavors and textures. Sadly the mini lobster rolls that looked amazing lacked in flavor and had corn added to the lobster mix. Mostly tasted the toasted roll and not much else. It was not bad but just not much lobster flavor. Onto the main course - grilled seafood dinner which had all the favorites - salmon, shrimp, scallops, and a crab cake. The portions were very generous. Being from MD, I'm picky about my crab cakes - it could have been cooked a little longer I thought and it had bit more of a crab imperial type texture to it than I'm used to. The other seafood items were very tasty and cooked perfectly and not over done. The asparagus side was a little overcooked for my own liking. So last night I went to Devon House for the first time last night! I had a great experience. The staff and the food was delicious. The lobster bisque was delicious but the portion was small. I ordered the scallops dinner and it was cooked to perfection. My waiter was Joe and he was a pleasures very knowledgeable about the menu and made great suggestions. I have eaten at Devon about 5 times in the past 4 years & never had a bad meal. They make great craft cocktails & have a very nice wine list with glasses being offered in 6oz & 9oz pours. Their appetizers are fabulous & the portions are usually large. When I was here in April 2017 two of us split exclusively appetizers & we couldn't even finish them all! Most recently I was there on Memorial Day Monday (reservations are suggested, this place gets very crowded on weekends) with a 6pm reservation. That's a $12.50 value folks! And it was a large platter with 2 dipping sauces & also some fried jalepenos & other fried veggies included. We didn't finish that either, but it was quite tasty. My friend ordered white wine and I ordered a Pinot Noir. We both had 9oz pours, so they give you a tiny carafe. Devon is pricey, but it's worth the splurge for the unique variety of seafood & entree available. My friend had a mixed seafood grill and needed a box for leftovers. I ordered seafood cioppino, which had clams, shrimp, scallops, mussels in a thick tomato sauce. It was divine. The ambiance is nice & it's not too loud for conversation. The chicken on the pasta dish was overcooked and the overall pasta dish was lack luster if not gross. This is a place that deserves 4.5 stars. Service is wonderful and so are the cocktails. We had a great anniversary celebrating at Devon. We used to go to the Philadelphia Rittenhouse Square location semi-frequently, but moving westward has made that too difficult. This location has its perks. If you come for their weekend happy hours from 2-4 PM, you will get so much for your money. Our server was fabulous and very attentive. We wore jeans, but I would dress a little nicer for dinner. Almost everyone we saw was dressed casual to business casual. The drinks were fabulous and I had premium cocktails for $7. The Hershey kiss cocktail is a little sweet, but not obnoxious. They also serve 1/2 bottles of wine during this time. YES PLEASE! We ordered the following appetizers for $6--7 a piece: Shrimp Scampi-incredibly good (5/5) Order this if you love garlic and or shrimp. It also comes with additional carbs (almost a garlic butter bread). Bruschetta with goat cheese-good (4/5) very heavy and the crostini could shred your mouth, I loved the side salad with it. He prefers a toasted roll with lovely decadent lobster in a butter or mayo sauce. I understand that the chefs probably put those herbs or veggies in there to delight a palette, but not for him. They also came with fries (an unnecessary addition.) Mussels in Coconut broth-so good (4/5). I would prefer if the sauce wasn't so thick, however the lime juice from the fresh lime perfected this dish. I ate the entire bowl by myself. It was so worth it. Hello, if you're in Hershey Pa Devon Seafood And Steak is an absolute must go to. The food from the appetizers to the main dishes are truly incredible. From the moment you enter this restaurant you're treated like the most important person to ever walk into their establishment. Once you sit down the service is full on perfection. The waiters was not only super friendly and knowledgeable but he truly knew the menu from preparation to taste. His recommendations were spot on. My daughter had the swordfish and I did taste it. It was the best swordfish I have ever had. My wife and I had the seafood sampler which was, shrimp, salmon, Yukon mashed potatoes, which were simply outstanding. There was a crab cake as well, which was perfection. To say the seafood was some of the best I have tasted anywhere, would not be a lie at all. The asparagus was bland, no seasoning whatsoever, only good part was the mac. My friend got the 8oz center cut filet and crab cake with garlic potatoes and the lobster Mac and cheese. She liked the crab cake but said again, it wasn't seasoned very well. She ordered her steak medium rare, this thing basically came out still mooing. It was essentially RAW and still cold in the center. She loves a good medium rare steak but this wasn't that. Even our waiter asked if she wanted them to put it on the grill for a bit longer. They came back with it 2 min later and it wasn't any better. She took one bite and said it had a funky taste and didn't end up eating any of it. I have been a steady customer of The Devon for the past five plus years - without question, I have easily spent at least $15,000 on family and business meals there. I always make my reservations online (via Open Table) a few weeks ahead of time along with any special table request. This past Saturday (November 3, 2018) I had a reservation for a table of 6 and with my online reservation I specifically asked for a table in the side dining room (as it's a quieter room and a couple of my guests had hearing issues) - my request was confirmed on the telephone on Friday, November 2 when an employee called me to confirm the reservation. We arrived 10 minutes early - at that time I was told that we did not have a table in the room we requested. Okay, so much for accommodating my guests with a hearing issue. Then they took us to our table in the main dining room - rather than giving us a table that is intended for 6 people they crammed 6 of us into a 4-top table. I immediately told the hostess this wasn't going to work so she went to get her supervisor/manager. The female supervisor/manager then came over and said there was nothing they could do - they were just too busy. Honestly, she could have cared less about accommodating us. This dinner was a birthday celebration for a friend who drove 3 hours (with her husband) to attend. What was intended to be something special turned into a loud and uncomfortable ruined evening. The pisser is that the Devon clearly knew ahead of time that they could not accommodate our request yet they did not have the courtesy to contact me in advance so could have had the opportunity to find another restaurant. They can call me to confirm my reservation but they can't call me to say we're too busy to accommodate your request. It's obvious where the Devon's (and Hershey's) priorities are. Just so the Devon management doesn't finger point, this review was not caused by our server (she was great) - this review is solely due to Devon's management (and the lack of). read more
