My husband and I got a chance to eat both Brunch and Dinner at this restaurant. One thing we really liked is that this restaurant is working with culinary students from Colorado Mesa University. The menu was unique, local, and often changing based on season and ingredient availability. As a vegetarian I am used to bland, after-thought foods when we eat out. This! This was anything but bland! A surprise to the senses! So many flavors, some I'd never tasted before. The simple side of smashed potatoes, whoa! My husband, the carnivore, had the burger with a side of the Duck Fries, and Jasmine Rice. He loved the burger and fries, saying the fries were truly amazing, but was a bit "meh," regarding the Rice. Still and all the meal was delicious. As a vegetarian I highly recommend the "Pesto Cauliflower Bowl, with a side of Smashed Potatoes! Now, our Service ... our server was "Angel." He went above and beyond, even with the covid19 constraints, to make our meal memorable... Honestly I'm still a bit stunned. I reached into my wallet and pulled out a $100 bill to pay for dinner. (Tonight I was treating my husband of nearly 47 years). Off Angel went to bring back change. When he returned, he said, "You actually over paid me, you gave me $200. not $100. Oh My Goodness! I would have been short tomorrow! His honesty means more than one mulligatawny realize, especially at the end of a two-week-long vacation that required my having an expensive doctor's visit and nearly $1000 in medications. The view was a better view of the town, than what I saw driving around I assume most of the employees are students at the college, our server was great. We celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary here and we were pleasantly surprised! The service was attentive but not intrusive. The medley of flavors in each dish had great depth. YUM, 5 stars for the ambience and views, 4 stars for the food, and 5 stars for the service! Doing the math, I had to round up to 5 stars. This is a new restaurant in the new hotel in Grand Junction, located on the 4th floor it has amazing views! The restaurant also has a rooftop bar, so when it's not 100 degrees, you can enjoy the great outdoors with a drink! The drinks were delicious and they have a great selection of beer and wine. I ordered the bison tamale stack, when it came out I was quite surprised by what it looked like. It's heavy on the sauce but the overall flavor was pretty good. I did love the grilled artichoke but who doesn't love artichokes doused in butter?! The whole meal was pretty good and I definitely want to try other things next time I go back. read more

Let's start with the positives: we reserved one of the gondolas and the ambiance was great. Our server was amazing and any star is directly for her! Food wise our corn bread appetizer was delicious. The rest of the food however was just horribly awful! Not just 1 meal but all of them. Steaks ordered medium rare and came well done to the point that some areas were actually burnt. We also ordered the special which was a tiny piece of boneless pork chop that was raw in the middle. Apparently the kitchen was out of some sides but instead of them informing our server to ask for alternatives, kitchen decided everyone was getting overcooked mushy carrots. When the server realized she was so embarrassed and immediately brought us some other sides which was cilantro rice that was not tasty at all. As an add on to our steaks we ordered lobster and shrimp which was never brought out to our table. After waiting over hour for our food we were not interested in attempting a second round of anything. This was a special occasion and very disappointing. I will say again our server was amazing and the manager took care of our entire meal including drinks because of the above. AMAZING. My husband and I stayed at Hotel Maverick and decided to come here for dinner since it was our last night in town. Devil's Kitchen is located on the 4th floor of Hotel Maverick. To make a reservation, you can either call the restaurant or use the app- OpenTable. Although we didn't make a reservation last night, we came in before the dinner rush and were able to be seated promptly by the nice hostess. The restaurant is nice and upscale. It has a bar with a tv, indoor seating with lots of large windows, and an outdoor patio. What blew us away was the delicious food! All the ingredients they used were high quality and top notch. We were pleasantly surprised with the deviled kitchen eggs we ordered as an appetizer. It was extremely tasty and had a different twist to the typical deviled eggs because it was lightly fried and had so much flavor. For our main course, I ordered the pan seared salmon with rice and grilled zucchini and my husband ordered the western slope jambalaya with shrimp as an add on. We both equally enjoyed our meal. My husband really liked the venison sausage that came with the jambalaya. We wish we were able to try something off their dessert menu but we were stuffed! One thing I also need to mention is the outstanding service!! Everyone from the hostess, our waitress, busser, and manager were all very friendly and personable. Our waitress checked on us frequently to make sure we were ok. What a great way to spend our last night in Grand Junction by having dinner at Devil's Kitchen. Went here for drinks only. Service was extremely slow. It took over 45 minutes to receive two drinks (an old fashion and whiskey neat). Was offered some bread while we waited but wasn't told it would cost $10. It should be free given the wait for a drink. So $78 and 2 hours later (two drinks and bread service), we finally left. View was nice. Server was nice as though she couldn't help the slow service. Service was extremely slow and drinks were no different than anywhere else. As we left we saw the bartender who was just standing behind the bar doing nothing. We are staying at the hotel but will not go back to the restaurant/bar. Update - decided to give it another try tonight. Completely different experience. Different server. Same amount of people here so do not understand the difference. Devil's Kitchen is smokin' hot! It sits atop the Maverick Hotel and has beautiful views of the CMU campus as the walls are glass floor to ceiling. There is also an outdoor dining terrace to take in the views. In cooler weather they put up bubbles for private heated dining that doesn't interfere with the view. There is also a one ski gondola for a party of two. I will have to go back and try the outdoor dining. Book ahead! The staff is very personable and welcoming. They seems to truly enjoy their job and want you to have a great experience. The food is fantastic! They greet you at your table with a bite of something special. We started with the deviled eggs and grilled artichoke. The eggs are flash fried, which gives them a crunch. They were fabulous as was the artichoke. I had the vegan gnocchi with tomatoes and pesto and my husband had the ribeye with the special sauce of the day. We were both very pleased with our meals but too full to try dessert. So I decided to come here for dinner again, I've been here before while in town, and got here early and had the deviled eggs and they were outstanding, and then I got the trout with brussels sprouts and a potato medley, and it was amazing as well. We stopped by here when driving through Grand Junction and were so glad that we found this place! The food was delicious and the service was great. We both got burgers and it was so satisfying and tasty. Being someone who really enjoys burgers and eats them quite often, I find that this one (Devil's burger) really hit the spot. It's a bit on the pricey side for a super casual lunch, but for something a bit more upscale (and the menu, ambiance, service, quality all speak to this) this place was so good. The views are so nice when you sit outside, but the big windows inside also make for a nice view when dining indoors. The food tastes just as good as it looks, and the service is just as good. The only complaint I have about this place is that when I asked the waitress for a vegetarian appetizer she recommended the Deviled Kitchen Eggs, but unfortunately there was bacon on them. Driving through Grand Junction and we just wanted to stop for lunch. Devils Kitchen was a totally random pick but what happy randomness! The menu isn't extensive, but it is interesting. We ordered the French Dip and the Devils Hamburger. Both were outstanding, perfectly prepared and every element fresh and improved the overall dishes. The service was great, attentive without interruptions and we especially enjoyed the ambiance - it's contemporary and quiet enough for conversation. Hardly any cheeses. Unripe fruit. Minimal flavor. Reservation was accepted and even after confirming several times was not "available" upon arrival. For the price this restaurant needs to do more. Servers were very nice and attentive. Food was about 4 stars. Their house chips were unique and good. Kind of a mix between chips and steak fries. The hamburger was very good. The Ruben was mediocre. The buns on both were very good. The kitchen however was VERY SLOW. Waited for a half an hour or more for our food and there were only about 4 other tables than ours. We were traveling and in a hurry to get in the road again. We won't be stopping there again, not because of the food or service, but because of the wait. read more
