Absolutely love the Wagon Wheel. You gotta find the menu items you prefer, but the wife and I have found several. Most notably is the Friday evening Prime Rib. WOW!!!! I also love their Chicken Fried Steak and the wife loves the Pork Chop. The service is always friendly and the food is always great and the prices are affordable. I highly recommend the Wagon Wheel.... love the place. My only complaint is the taste of their drinking water. I just can't drink it, as it tastes like metal... UGH... read more

My wife and I visited this restaurant for the first time today as we vacationed for the first time in the area. The location was very convenient coming down off the Grand Mesa mountain on Rt. 65, there was plenty of parking close by which was free and the parking lot was freshly paved, the outside of the restaurant was nicely decorated, we were greeted upon entering, seated immediately, our friendly server came right away and asked us what we wanted to drink and gave us menus, we received our beverages in one minute, our server took our orders within several minutes, their menu had many and varied items reasonable priced ($12 - $18), the dining room had plenty of seating, the dining room was clean and appropriately decorated for a restaurant in Western Colorado, no background music was playing, I don't know if there was free WiFi available, and the restroom was clean and didn't smell. Our food was served steaming hot within 10 minutes and was delicious! read more

My wife and I had a great experience. This isn't always the case in small towns, being a gay couple, but neither staff nor patrons stared at us or made us feel like we were out of place. The food was good. The side veggies are canned, but the fried chicken was fresh and good. My wife was meh on the chicken fried steak, but I liked it. She liked the mashed potatoes better than I did. We both liked her fries and the Texas toast. Our server was great, and the whole place has an old country feet. Right now they are open 11-8, since they are understaffed for breakfast. Great hole-in-the-wall type restaurant. We stop here any time we go up to the Mesa. We are from the south so we miss good southern cooking and this place is the closest I've found to southern food (it's not advertised this way). They have poboys that are pretty good as well as a catfish place (!!!) that was quite good. Their mozzarella sticks are good too. My whole party enjoyed their meals. All they need now is sweet tea! read more

Popped into the Wagon Wheel twice on our 2 day stay at Powderhorn. Staff was super friendly-& food was tasty & big portioned. For lunch-our group of 8 tried the catfish poboy, chicken fried steak, club sandwich, chicken fajita poboy..& the winner was the catfish. We have not been eating out much since covid. So passing through Mesa we decided to get breakfast. Restaurant was not full. 8 people beside us. It took 35 minutes to get breakfast from the time we ordered until we got the plates. That is way too long to wait for breakfast. I used to be a short order cook back in the day. 35 minutes would not fly. If you are backed up at that time , what will you do if it starts to fill up during that 35 minutes others are waiting? Real rating is more of a 3.5, but I'm bumping it up to 4 because of the awesome service. Our waitress was so friendly and attentive, and she got our orders just right (lots of slight modifications). The food was alright, not amazing, but solid. Family really enjoyed the burgers and also the catfish dinner. French dip was decent. Nachos supreme serving size is huge, and they weren't super great, but we were so hungry that we ate a lot of them. Prices reasonable and what I would expect. One of the main negatives was that there were flies dive-bombing us and flying around the table throughout the whole meal. My wife happened upon the Wagon Wheel while we were planning our 4th wedding anniversary to the western slope for some wine tasting and sightseeing. Yes, we could have stayed in Palisade and have been closer to the wineries, but both felt that really wasn't our scene. The Wagon Wheel was everything I hoped it would be. Located in a small town, cozy accommodations and great food. However, the highlight of our stay was the people we encountered. Whether it was the staff, the bar regulars, or fellow travelers, everyone was so friendly, welcoming and eager to help or suggest activities. The Wagon Wheel isn't for everyone, if you are accustomed to 5-star resorts and spas where the staff caters to every request (no matter how ridiculous or pretentious) than you may be served better elsewhere. If you are looking for a small quite town to spend sometime in that provides great views, friendly people, fun times, and great food than the Wheel Wagon is the place you're looking for. read more

This is a tidy little motel that is very clean, comfortable and friendly. We popped in with no reservation and got a room for $99 for two people. The lady at the reservation desk was very friendly as was everyone we met during our stay. The room was large and nicely appointed considering the price and location. There was a mini-fridge, color TV and plenty of space for our motorcycle gear. My only complaint was we could not open our window for fresh air so we had to use the wall mounted heater/AC unit which worked great but was a little noisy. There is a bar and restaurant in the same building and we had a great time partying with the locals at the bar. The room included a $5 discount on breakfast which we enjoyed. The breakfast burrito was delicious and extremely huge. The coffee was not bad. Just fyi there is a coffee cafe across the street and up the road that had awesome coffee and lattes. read more

Alright finally stopped in after living in Mesa for almost a year. I was exceedingly pleased with my experience. Service was friendly and efficient. Menu was diverse. Tried the Shrimp Po Boy. Freshly coated shrimp were super crispy. Light coating. Two types of fresh cut fries. I had the curly fries. They offer a bunch of different homemade pies. The food seemed above average to me with lots of attention to detail apparent. This honestly rivaled many of the restaurants we frequented when we lived in Denver. think that the other review must be based on prior ownership because my experience was the opposite of what I expected. When we first stepped into the Wagon Wheel, we weren't exactly welcomed, there were two ladies standing at the counter, and from the looks of it they either didn't see us come in or just didn't care. The first one was talking on her phone, and the second one was checking the cash register. So we decided to go find a table on our own. After that we watched as the waitress paced back and forth from table to table, except for ours. We waited at least fifteen minutes before she finally stopped at our table and asked what we wanted to drink. We had already figured out what we all wanted to eat by then! So we told her what we wanted to drink and she raced off to get our drinks. She returned pretty quickly and asked what we wanted to eat. We told her and she raced off again. We waited forty minutes for two corn dogs and a chicken tender! But while we were waiting we kept hearing arguments from the bar area, with sentences like "NO YOU NEED TO GET OUT, YOU'RE GOING TO JAIL!" The food was fairly good, but not worth the waiting. So in conclusion, this place has okay food but bad service, and horrible waiting. I would rate the wagon wheel... 2 stars read more

My husband and I were a little reluctant to stay here only because of the outwardly appearance. It's clean just a tad dated. When we checked in the gal was extremely friendly even asked where have we been....yes we have had adult beverages at the bar before but that was quite a while ago and surprised she remembered us! Going up to the room we meet a caretaker who even though not asked to, open our door for us and asked if we needed anything. Turned out our key wouldn't work so yes we did! She promptly remedied the situation and made it known she is always around to help! The room was a pleasant surprise with a clean updated bathroom, comfy bed and fridge and coffee maker. It was very quiet and loved that there is a place to sit outside to have an adult beverage and even play some horseshoes. When we checked out the next day they were genuinely concerned about how are stay was and very appreciative of our business! Would definitely recommend only complaint was price but we are in the busy season so I am certain it is justified! Thanks again for a great weekend Wagon Wheel! read more
