I have been here twice and both times decent. My friend went ham on the mochi donuts and they almost didn't make it back to Santa Cruz. He didn't have a favorite but got the ube, matcha and strawberry ones. The first time I came here I got the jasmine passion fruit refresher that was okay but the jasmine berry one I would get again. They also have soft serve that you can get either w espresso or boba toppings. Both times I ordered through their self order system and I got my items under 7 minutes. First I would like to say we were soooo excited to try out this NEW Mochi donut spot! They are located right next to the entrance by Legoland and we were captivated by the super cute, unique, trendy donut designs that they have! They are all so cute and definitely eye catching. We got the deal where you buy 3, you get one free on this day and we were so happy to try all four. Here comes the sad part of the review... SIGH. lol. The donuts we got were all either overly cooked? Or stale as another Yelp person stated. They were not soft and chewy as mochi donuts usually are, they had a lot of tough ness from either being overly baked or maybe they were just old? We were pretty disappointed they tasted more like normal rough (or old?) donuts and nothing like mochi donuts. The only one that had a lightness and a bit of the soft chewiness was the Ube Sprinkles and the Strawberry White Choco had a slight chewiness but still tougher. BUT the Fruity Pebbles one was VERY rough/tough to eat, like it was cooked way too long (or very old?) the Cookie Monster one was also like a normal rough donut, no mochi chewiness or softness at all. Overall I rate this place a solid 3 Stars. The potential is definitely here! The designs are all super cute, the packaging is super cute + detailed, the pricing is very reasonable, and they have a great variety of choices! However they did not taste like mochi donuts at all except for the Ube Sprinkles which was the closest to true Mochi donut vibes. read more

Good location right in the food court beside the Lego Discovery Center. I got the Cookies n Cream donut & a Dalgona Fresh Milk, both came out very quick considering how busy they were. Donut and milk were sweet and tasty, I'd definitely order then again. Behind the counter was clean and well organized too, so that's a plus! read more

This is one of the newest dessert at the food court. D & A offer mochi donuts and boba drinks. The mochi donuts have simple to over the top toppings and the boba drinks are similar to what you can find outside of the mall. I didn't get boba, I got 6 mochi donuts, get one free. There are two self ordering kiosk. It was easy to use, just hard to choose which flavor to get. I enjoyed the strawberry white coco mochi donut. It came with white chocolate chip and dried strawberry. It had a sweet, tart and creamy flavor. The mochi is bouncy and chewy. I've had other mochi donuts and this maybe the best due to the bouncy texture. Service was quick and the employee was able to put the free mochi donut on a separate bag instead of the box. This is the newest dessert restaurant at the Great Mall food court and it's a huge dissapointment. Especially, being a location directly across Legoland! They offer a variety of dessert snacks such as mochi donuts, boba drinks and soft serve ice cream. Not only this place lacks in food quality but also in customer service. Read on and I'll explain. We ordered a few mochi donuts since it looked so good through their glass window. It looked fresh since we see them always bringing out new ones. Boy.. looks can be deceiving. The choloate mochi donut was stale, dry and not enjoyable at all. The cookie and cream flavor was also stale! It tasted better compared to the cholocate but it was still mediocre. The soft serve ice cream with the charred waffle was not any better than the mochi donuts. The ice cream lacked taste and the waffled was hard like a rock! YES!! Hard like a rock. My son almost broke his tooth while trying to bite into it and I am not joking around! The waffle was burnt I was suprised they even offered it. Take a look at my picture.. I went back to the place to show them the burnt waffle and they were able to make me a new one, but it took them over 10 minutes. They seemed to not care at all. The staff making the boba drinks in the front was even surprised that I will still waiting in line to get my waffle! Whoever the manager was on the floor during that time had no interest to remedy the complaint. That is what I called horrible customer service. Would I come back here again? Came by the other day and to my surprise, this place was actually open. I was starting to take bets on whether or not they were ever going to open, since the construction barrier said "coming summer 2022" all the way through March of 2023. Anyway, there was a huge line so I said I'd come back during the week when they were less busy. I'm glad I did because I'd be mad if I waited in that line for what I got. First impression: why go through all the trouble of ordering branded boxes if you're not going to measure them to actually fit the doughnuts? Not a huge deal, but they were all stacked on top of each other. Second impression: the doughnuts are very dark. Judging by the color alone, I feared they were overcooked but wanted to try one before making any assumptions. I went with the matcha one. Suspicions confirmed, it was overcooked. The outside was dry and had a strong flavor of fryer oil, usually what doughnuts taste like if they're cooked at the wrong temperature and soak up too much oil. The inside was better, but not by much. I couldn't really taste any of the toppings since the flavor of oil was so overpowering. Overall, I think this place goes for style over substance. The decorations are cute, especially the little candy eyes on the Cookie Monster-looking one, but I'd rather eat an ugly doughnut that tastes good than a cute doughnut that tastes like oil. I'm not sure if I'd recommend this donut shop. The service was pretty bad. The employees seemed like they didn't want to be there, and they weren't very friendly. I'm a huge donut fan, so I was excited to try this place. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The donuts were oily, plain, and the frosting all tasted the same. I could literally taste the oil inside the donut, which was not pleasant. I'm not sure if they were using old oil or if they didn't fry the donuts long enough, but they were definitely not up to par. The frosting was also not that good. It was too sweet and artificial tasting. I tried a few different flavors, but they all tasted the same. I'm really disappointed with my experience here. I went to order some drinks and a dozen donuts for my friends and I, and the cashier, and to be specific, was an asian Vietnamese girl with I think a dragon or snake tattoo on her arm, was taking our order with so much attitude! DNA is a new dessert spot that just opened at the Great Mall located across from Legoland and adjacent to the food court! It's the perfect spot to get your dessert fix! Every time I would walk by there is always a line of people ordering something to try! Until I did! I had never tried a mochi donut until I had theirs and I have to tell ya not only do they look good, but they taste just as good! They were soft and chewy just as I imagined mochi should be, just in form of donuts! Their bobas and refreshers look really interesting so I had to try them too! I tried the Blue Lagoon because it looked like a cool refresher to walk around the mall with and to my surprise it wasn't bad at all, so I'm definitely gonna try the other drinks and quite possibly the strawberry croffle when I go back! Although, they might be busy and I get it, when we're hungry, we get HANGRY. Just a reminder to be patient and that DNA just opened. If you've worked in foods before you can understand situations can get a bit overwhelming especially for the young employees possibly working their first job. Best bang for your buck! I always get the pistachio w/ extra boba. There is no place else you get find good boba for such a good price. This place gets pretty slammed bc of the location which is completely understandable. I recommend going at a less better time so they can focus on making your drink w/ love. I've tried the Mochi donuts a few times and tbh I'm not a huge fan. Maybe it's just me but I feel they're burnt. Service is okay, I always use the kiosk so I can't say much about it but it's our younger generation that works there (if you know what I mean).
