Out of six tries to visit during open hours on their site, posted here, and displayed at the door, the store has been open only three times--and others I know have had the same experience of undependable open hours. This is really sad, because the ice cream is really good, and most of it is eggless, a factor important to those vegetarians who feel eggs are too close to meat. These days, as opposed to the first few months as reported by other reviewers, there is seating indoors, and when weather permits, outside. Also, many early reports are of mild flavors and an artificial off-taste: that's been fixed. Parking is behind the retail spaces, parallel to Berryessa, with unmarked retail spaces being at the entrance *in front of* the interior gate. The fact that the retail parking spaces are not clearly labeled or directed is the *building's operator's fault*. If it were my business, parking on the location's website would be highlighted, the better to attract customers, as well as bugging building management to improve signage. Once you know where it is, you can tell your friends, but this doesn't help curious passers-by. Their strawberry ice cream tastes homemade--creamy and full of strawberry fruit: way better than Tillamook Creamery, which had my vote for best strawberry. Their Blackcurrant ice cream will please Europeans who miss this flavor--pour cassis liqueur over it, or add some to blackcurrant juice or tea. All the fruit flavors I've tried have been good to great. There are so many flavors common to western Asia to Bangladesh that my mouth sings. Plain saffron, or better yet, saffron with rose, is not on the permanent roster, but on rotation. As I am able to get rose ice cream from sources with consistent open hours, and haven't enough space in my inadequate freezer, I bought only strawberry this last time. Their mango is heavenly, and save Talenti's version for when those heavenly fruits are out of season. This last time, the Open sign was lit, and there was outdoor seating, but no lights were on, and the doors were locked. I pounded on the door, because I really wanted that strawberry ice cream! A different man from any I'd seen there before unlocked and opened up. I asked if there'd been the sort of problems that would cause a shop during open hours to be locked, with no notice posted, but got no answer. This young man wouldn't sell my friend a quart of falooda ice cream "because it was too hard to scoop". There weren't any cartons of it in the freezer cases. This was on a Friday afternoon. I believe someone is in need of a reminder that without customers buying as much as they want, funds for his wages might not exist. Any other visit when it was open, we've been greeted by young men who understood customer service, talked about the flavors to people outside of the expected demographics. More staff like that is needed here. I'm sad that I haven't seen more people here--perhaps events or promotions to get more notice, as well as consistent staff presence during official hours--would help. This is not hard-frozen commercial-grade US ice cream! Bring an insulated bag for your to-go purchases, and a cold-pack, to avoid cold creamy soup; delicious but not what you were buying. read more

On a Sunday afternoon I was looking for a sweet treat and happed upon Kwality Ice Cream! Kwality Ice Cream is an ice cream chain with locations all over the United States focusing on delivering both high quality ice cream, and specializing in cassta, kulfi, and eggless ice cream cakes. Although they do serve some of the traditional tried and true ice cream flavors like cookies and cream, their unique south Asian take provides an added dimension to the flavors of this traditional American dessert. Their San Jose location is conveniently located across from the San Jose Flea Market within The Platform Luxury Apartments, which offers plenty of retail parking spaces for those looking for a sweet treat. Upon walking in to the store, patrons are greeted with two cases of ice cream flavors to peruse and sample as needed. I arrived nearer to the end of the day, so unfortunately some of their flavors like Lychee were unavailable; however, I did sample their mango and found it delicious and decided to get a kid's scoop of it! There's a few tables and chairs in the store if you'd like to sit inside and enjoy your ice cream, otherwise you can easily take it to go and enjoy it as you stroll around the area. I found the flavor of their mango ice cream very natural and reminiscent of a mango lassi (although I'm not sure if that was their intention). They have alot of unique and exotic flavors, and they want you to try them. But I was in a hurry, so I picked mango and coffee ice cream. Two scoops in a cup, $6.25. The price is fair. Service was excellent. The clerk offered me samples three times. How was the ice cream? The flavors aren't very strong. The coffee ice cream wasn't very creamy, and had a bitter after taste. Well, it is coffee. Maybe next time I'll try fruity flavors. Their ice cream is not super creamy, and the taste is fair. Where do you park? Go around the corner, about 30 feet down there's a driveway to go inside the garage on the right. That's "retail parking." It's FREE. No tables or chairs to sit and enjoy your ice cream. Relatively new place so when we visited there was no wait and quick service! They have a lot of interesting Indian ice cream flavors but I got the Rose Petals flavor and I really liked it. The other pink flavor (forgot the name) tasted a bit similar to the Rose Petals flavor though. As for the last one, the Paan flavor, it tasted a bit spicy for some reason so I wasn't a big fan even though I usually like it. We ended up ordering Alphonso mango, kulfi falooda, chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. For small cup you can do 2 flavors. Ice cream was a fluffy texture and not too firm. Clean interior. They have lots of interesting, unique flavors, like chickoo (sapote), which I got a pint of. I also got a pint of strawberry, which tasted like fresh fruit. They allowed the littles and me to try a few flavors before we settled on those two flavors. I'm looking to getting rose next time, when I'm not sharing. The person working the store wasn't too welcoming, though. He came out from being like we were interrupting something. Not single smile the whole time we were there. It was so uncomfortable that I hurried us along to leave quickly. The ice cream was best eaten right away--perhaps great for the walk to the park behind the store. By the time I got to my destination, 15 minutes away, both pints of ice cream were too melted to serve and had to be put in the freezer. The parking in the building was a little confusing because there's no "Retail" sign on the entrance and the spots are numbered and a few have paper signs threatening to tow, so I parked in the next building to be safe which wasn't too much farther. The place was completely void of other customers the whole time we were there. It doesn't seem like they get very many customers from what I see when I drive by, but I hope this summer will be good to them, especially with the park now open right behind the building. read more

Parking for this place is hard to find and the parking garage near it is a mission to find a place that is for retail. However the place is a bit tricky to find. It is a small shop with one worker! The shop owner is nice and was fast with making the shake.The shake was good and I would give it 9/10. Drove past this place and decided to stop and check it out. Discovered that it had only been open for about a week and the place still looked empty/sterile inside. They offered a lot of flavors influenced by spices and fruits popular with Indian culture. Definitely some "exotic" flavors that I don't see at most places. The person working the counter was very nice and let us try any samples we wanted. I am a sucker for anything with saffron in it, so I sampled and then decided to get the Kesar Pistachio flavor in a sugar cone. It had a nice rich flavor to it, similar to custard. My husband and I recently saw that Kwality Ice Cream was open. We popped in the ice cream shop around 4pm on a Monday (Labor Day Holiday). I had no expectations of the place, but I learned that it's actually a franchise. I also noted the unique Southeast Asian and tropical flavors. The place wasn't too busy, which was cool, because I didn't feel rushed sampling flavors. The employee at the time was very friendly and helpful, and he was just as excited for us trying the non-basic ones. We tried many flavors, but the ones that really stood out to me were the Malai Kulfi, Rahjbog, and Kulfi Falooda. Even the recognizable Ferrero Rocher and Butterscotch flavors were on point. I ended up getting a scoop of the Kulfi Falooda, which was rose flavored with basil seeds, and Ferrero Rocher. I also got a slice of cassata for good measure. It kind of looks like a Neopolitan ice cream cake, but the trio of flavors were not your typical vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate. I think the green ice cream was pistachio, the pink one tasted like bubble gum to me (I'm not the biggest fan of bubble gum flavored ice cream, but it oddly worked with the pistachio), and the white ice cream was likely some sort of vanilla base. We decided not to eat anything in the store due to the smell and took it outside. We tried a few flavours that didn't really do it for us and opted for the vanilla and a cookie dough. There wasn't anything exceptional about the ice cream there. It seemed rather mediocre, maybe my taste buds weren't fitting for the place, but I wouldn't return. Finally an Indian ice cream store at this neighborhood. There is parking on the street and also in the garage at the back. Tons of ice cream flavors offered. There are 2 benches outside of the store for customers who want to hang out outside. Service was great. We ordered a shake and it was done super quick. There's sugar cone and waffle cones. Finally seen this place open. Have been waiting for them to open so I can see what kind of good ice cream they have! They have lots of unique flavors but also some common flavors as well. I tried their black currant and mango. I ended up getting their mango but next time I will get their black currant because that was good as well. I'm glad I took a different way home today, otherwise I wouldn't have known this place had opened up in this large apartment complex. The employee on duty was friendly and welcoming as soon as I entered, offering plenty of samples for their wide variety of ice cream flavors. While they had ordinary flavors such as vanilla and chocolate, there were also many more interesting flavors you wouldn't find in an ordinary ice cream parlor such as various Indian fruits with spices like cardamom. The inside of the shop was clean and well-lit, but a little bare without any indoor tables or seating. I ended up getting a scoop of rose petal ice cream which was perfectly creamy and fluffy with the right amount of rose flavor. The service was not bad. The one person working there was nice. It was during a slow time. I am not sure how many people work during the busy hours. It was just one person there and I can't imagine how one person would handle big groups. They do allow samples. I got the salted caramel and it was good. Not overly sweet. I did get the shake. The shake was decent but a bit small. The price is cheaper than other places but it is smaller. Overall the place is good. You do have to park underground and walk a bit to get there. It's a very bare bones ice cream parlor in a pretty new retail/apartment combo building. Among many of my friends, we've had this running joke for years "putting the K in Kwality" to describe particularly bad examples of poor quality. I figured I'd have to try this when I saw the sign, hoping it would put the lie to the joke. Sadly, they completely lived up to it. The ice cream was full of crystallized water ice regions, and the flavor was muted and a bit off. The prices were about what I'd expect from a high quality home made parlor, but this place was reminiscent of the ice cream counter inside a thrifty store. It's also cash only. The service was ok, but despite an empty store I got this "why are you interrupting my peaceful day" vibe from the clerk. Disappointing. Will not be back. read more

Checked out this new place tonight and had a great experience! I got a walnut and fig milkshake and my partner had two scoops of sapote (chikoo). Both were excellent. They had a perfect balance of butter fat to give a nice creamy texture without being too heavy for this hot day. Very refreshing, and not too sweet! We'll definitely be back to try more flavors. I am so sorry, but I have never had anything so mediocre in my life. We were excited this placed opened after waiting months and months by it. First, the ice cream alone tasted like it has been sitting out for months. You can taste the old freezer taste to it. Ice cream flavors were not good at all.
