I had bought 2 suits from Zara in San Francisco which I loved the fabric and style. However, it did need some alterations to make it perfect. I am not used to the modern Euro slim cut pants but I think with some time I will get used to it. Anyhow, Ando, the owner did a fantastic job on the alterations of tightening up the waistline on both pants and shortening the sleeves on one suit jacket was both professional and on time. His fees are also very reasonable for the quality work that he does. I will be taking in some older suits that I have which I love the material and have him modernize the cut/style to fit today's fashion. Reasons the average guy might need a tailor are often infrequent, but if you're looking for a tailor and have found this review, then I probably don't need to explain the remarkable difference in appearance having a garment properly fitted makes. In the case of Ando, he can certainly handle, with great skill, your average adjusting or repairing needs; however, this is hardly where his talents end. A quick story about why I feel this way: In looking for a great Valentine's gift for my girlfriend, I realized the best gift might be something she already had. A simple dress she often wore around the house, that she'd had since she was in her teens. It was comfortable, well worn, and obviously one of her favorite things. Some people have their favorite watch, or a trusty old pair of shoes- for my lady, it was this ratty old dress. While masquerading as doing the laundry, I snuck it away from her for a day and took it straight to Ando. I explained that I wanted him to duplicate it, and make a few extras, but without any damage or harm coming to the existing dress. Meaning he had to look at it, as it had once been, maybe a decade earlier- determine what that would mean for a new pattern, and then also adjust for fit based on the wear of the existing dress. He did it all, and more. Apart from using the fabrics I had suggested, we went out and found one he felt might suit it better. He made the copies, and had them ready well ahead of time. I'll skip the part of the story where I gave them as a gift, but please trust me when I say they couldn't have been better received, and are still worn to this day. He even included a 'fitting' as needed, inviting her to come in if they ever needed minor adjustments. Frankly, though, they're better made than the original. I'm so glad to have found designer tailors near sac! I bought a Valentino jacket and it was 2 sizes too big for me. I just loved the design of the jacket so much that I bought the last one in store even though it was too big for me. I was worried about taking the jacket to a tailor because I knew that the jacket could potentially be ruined if not taken in correctly. Ando greeted me warmly as i walked into the store and i told him about my concerns about the jacket and what i wanted to be fixed. He was very attentive and listened to what i liked and disliked which i was grateful. He took in my jacket from the sides, hemmed up the sleeves, shortened the length, and tightened the sleeves on a fully lined jacket for $120 which was definitely reasonable for taking in the jacket 2 whole sizes. After about a week, I returned to pick up the jacket to find it JUST AS I HAD HOPED. it fit me perfectly and looks wonderfully, It was solidly altered and didn't even look like it was taken in. In addition, he got the job done a day before the promised pick up date in which I was truly happy about. I will definitely be coming back to designer tailor! If he could professionally take in a high end designer jacket, I'm sure he could do many other alterations. read more

Ando is the best at his job in this whole city. I had a suit jacket with too long of sleeves and functional button holes. Usually this means the jacket will not work out because that is a very tough and almost impossible alteration to make. Ando was able to rescue the suit and make the fit perfect. In addition, he is extremely knowledgeable on men's wear and how a suit is supposed to fit. I've gone to numerous alterations and tailors, and he was the first to explain to me what squared shoulders are and why every jacket I buy bunches up behind my neck. Lastly guys, just buy your suits from Ando and have him alter them. He has super 140's wool suits available (Italian made) for $395 at his shop. After alterations, I would imagine $500-$600 would be the ending total cost. That is an insane deal for super 140's wool suits. If you are lucky, you might find that level of quality for $1000 or more with online merchants, and that's before alterations. To add a little more perspective, Jos A Bank sells super 130's suits for about $500 on sale, and that's roughly the same quality as Men's Wearhouse (not that great). read more

First and foremost, my pants were hemmed correctly. I guess that's the most important thing. The gentleman has zero personality. I was cheerful and upbeat, tried making conversation, but was met with a dour face and only statements that were necessary to complete the transaction. Although my pants were hemmed properly, they were returned looking like they had been at the bottom of a pile of clothes or something. I always keep my pants on a hanger and pressed; I will have to iron them after bringing them home so wrinkled in places. Speaking of hangers, I would have expected my pants to be returned on hangers, as opposed to just brought from the back and placed on the counter. Finally, $15 to hem a pair of men's dress pants is expensive. Especially with the service issues I mentioned above and the pants coming back with lots of threads, not the color of my pants, all over. Threads at a tailor is an understandable issue, but he could invest in a lint roller! read more

Though I have not had an item tailored YET, I want to give 5 stars to Ando for his professionalism and transparency. I bought a wedding dress that was 1-2 sizes too big and has complicated lace and details that would've made the alterations expensive. I respect his time and would never want him to bring down his price and he also respected my time and said he wasn't going to let me do all of this work. Most ppl wouldn't have been that upfront and would've been happy to take the money so I appreciate his guidance. This is *the* place. I had two pair of gorgeous wide leg pants that I needed tailored for my short self - one pair had a stitching detail at the hem and the other pair was a high-end fabric. I read the reviews and decided Designer Tailor was the place to trust - I was proven right! He worked with my time frame and the prices were great. Impeccable work. He tailored the length perfectly to my height and shoes, so now I look like a million bucks when I wear them. At 4'11", I am always looking for a good tailor. I decided to try this place last week, and will use them again. The owner, Ando Margaryan, was a Nordstrom tailor for 14 years. He did a great job of shortening two knit tops for me, and.....I got "NEXT DAY" service! He uses high end machines, and you cannot tell the hems were ever altered, he made the hems match the factory seaming. He also sells designer clothing for men and women. His jeans selection for women look nice. This shop is in Raley's shopping center at Hazel and Madison, by Baskin Robbins. Good idea to shop at TJ Maxx in the same center, then let Ando make the item fit you perfectly. June 3, 2011 Update: Ando does it again! I am packing for a trip to Chicago leaving in the morning, and realize the slacks I intend to take are (as usual) 2 inches too long. The heartache of being a short Italian female ;-( I call Ando and ask is there anyway he can hem them that day. Of course he can! They are ready within an hour and this female is elated. My wife bought me a beautiful dress shirt that was too big. I went to see Ando to find out if he could virtually remake shirt. He needed to take in the sides, take in the sleeves, and shorten the sleeves by almost 2". WOW....he made the shirt look custom tailored!! It now fits like a glove. I took in a designer dress that needed the sleeves made wider. I tried on the dress so it could be marked. When I went to pick up the dress and tried it on the sleeves were still to tight. I was told the dress wasn't for me. I wasn't charged the $50 since the alteration done didn't work. As it is now I wouldn't even be able to sell the dress with the failed alteration, it's now worthless. After reading all the great reviews i had high hopes, this is not what I was hoping for. It would have been nice if there was some interest in trying to try fix the issue. The quality of the work was good. The customer service was odd, no real interest shown in trying to correct the issue. I used to go to a great tailor in broadstone (Folsom), but the business closed. The tailor was more interested in fitting a guy who came in to pick up his blinged out denim jacket, it was a horrid hot mess. read more

Awesome business alert! If you are in the Fair Oaks area, I would highly recommend Designer Tailor. I needed to get a nice dress altered at the last minute, and after taking it in to Designer Tailor on Saturday, was told he could do it by Wednesday. It was cutting it close, but I agreed and prepaid (very reasonable price). I started to get worried that it was too tight of a timeline, so I called up and asked if it could be ready by Tuesday. He told me it could (relief!). About 30 minutes later, he called me up and told me it was finished! I was so surprised. He told me that I seemed worried and he wanted to take something off of my plate. The alteration was simple, but perfectly done. I was especially taken by the human element dealing with a small business owner. He was right; I was worried and his small gesture did make a difference.
