Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. After the first repair, the check engine light came back on within an hour. I returned four times in a week, and each time I was assured the issue was resolved, but the light reappeared each time. It became clear that they were turning off the check engine light without addressing the actual problem, and I ended up spending roughly $300 without the issue being fixed, plus extra money on gas for each trip from Murrieta to Valley Center. Additionally, each message I sent asking for updates was left on read--most likely by the mechanic's assistant, who is also his girlfriend--which was frustrating and felt unprofessional. I finally took my car to a new mechanic, who fully fixed the issue within a single day. I expected more thorough service and communication from Izzy Autobody, especially after years of trust. He always does his best to save me money, while at the same time giving my vehicle excellent service. These guys keep me fully informed on what my car needs and how much longer I can put it off before it causes serious issues, and they do it pretty damn fast, too. One of the first times I came in, I was asking about rotors and brake pads, because some other place wanted to charge me some godawful amount of money to replace them. Frank told me, "Your brake pads are fine, and so are your rotors, but just so you know, what the other shop didn't tell you is that these rotors have a factory warranty, so as soon as they start giving you trouble, just bring your car in and we'll get them replaced, free of charge." I was stunned. He could have just said, "yeah, those need to be replaced," and I would have given him hundreds and hundreds of dollars to fix it, but he didn't. In my experience, mechanics are nowhere near that honest. Sadly, most mechanics will tell you that your car needs work when it actually doesn't, and then they'll often do a piss poor job. Ortega Auto will happily examine your car and tell you that the other mechanics lied to you, and all you need is an oil change... And then when something actually DOES go wrong, they do extremely high quality repairs at a fraction of the price you would pay at Midas, Goodyear, or anywhere else I know of.

On the recommendation of a friend, I had it towed to Patrick Flynn's Collison & Frame. I talked to Dominic about the problem, and authorized him to do a diagnosis. It came back that the alternator was shot, and there were a couple of other minor problems - a hose and the belt needed replacing. Dominic had the problems fixed in a day. A couple of things I really appreciate about the experience. Dominic was great to work with, genuine and direct. He pointed out a few other problems that needed to be taken care of, but didn't try to upsell me on them. The hose and the belt needed to be done right away. The other is that Dominic recommended using quality parts from Dodge. I have had some problems with aftermarket parts over the last few years, I think the quality in general has gone way down. It cost a little more for the OEM parts, but it was worth it to me. I really appreciate that Dominic DIDN'T charge me for OEM parts and then put in aftermarket. It can be hard to find honest auto repair shops, but I'm really glad to have found this one. Highly recommend!
